Oakland Athletics Fantasy Players To Watch

Hilariously, the SB Nation baseball blogs were asked to write about potential fantasy players for their organization. I read the description, and laughed out loud. I mean, I'm not the most experienced fantasy baseball player out there, but are you sure you want to draft the Oakland Athletics? Somehow I can't quite see us mentioned in the big fantasy preview drafts. At all.

So I turned to Oaktown Power, who does play a considerable amount of fantasy baseball, and after he stopped laughing, he said that without a doubt, the highest drafted fantasy player on the A's would be Jemile Weeks.

However, If you want the most intriguing member of the A's on draft day, that honor will go to Yoenis Cespedes. Where will he be drafted? If you had to project him, what would that look like?

If you want the deeper sleeper who may break out, he would go with Jarrod Parker.

And that's your fantasy news. You heard it here first.

I am currently writing for FantasyDaddy.com

Check out the site…we just started listing our projections for the season…

I will also be postin my top 50 Minore League players for deep dynasty leagues tomorrow

Brandon McCarthy is an excellent pick in the 100-150 range

but if your league does K and K/9, that hurts his value alot

Anderson could be an interesting late season waiver pick-up

If you’re light on IP and need another starter. He probably won’t come back dominant, but will still likely be better than the other flotsam and jetsam floating around in late July. And as an A’s fan, you should be 100% on top of his timetable to return and get the early jump picking him up.

The other item for A’s fans who play fantasy is keeping an eye firmly planted on out closer situation. I believe we still haven’t announced a closer, but when we do go nab that guy!

He will successfully protect both leads!
You with your relentless optimism!
i am dealing with.a fantasy conundrum.

I am in a deep dynasty league with 15 man minor league squads. I had the 2nd waiver (international free agents can’t be drafted in our off season minor league draft) and I assumed Darvish would go 1 and Cespedes would go second to me. The guy is taking Cespedes and Darvish fell to me. As a Cuban A’s fan I wanted Yoenis so I have been in trade talks the last few days. Should I take his offer of Darvish and Garza for Cespedes and Colby Rasmus (I am very pitching heavy on the Major and Minor league level)? Should I be happy with Darvish? I’m stuck.

Thoughts?

PS, I am the lone A’s fan amongst a Cub fan and 8 Giants fans.

Your name is Carcinogen and this is your concern?????
very much so

By the way, the name is from a NOFX song.

A google search reveals that NOFX appears to be a band,

and not a radio station broadcasting from Neptune.

hmm...

Rasmus is gonna bounce back, but he wasnt that great of a fantasy player to begin with. Darvish probably will be better than cespedes this year…I think you gotta pass, as much as youd like to have yeonis

Depending in what time of the day it is

I’ve made both the decision to pass and take the trade. I hate fantasy sports. I had offered Garza, Britton and my first pick in next years draft for Yoenis but he wants to gauge me because he knows it is a player I’ve wanted. But that’s why I think he took him, to try and get me to waaaaay overpay.

I've played in a league with Oaktown Power

And he cleaned my clock so who am I to argue with him.

I would like to point out that Balfour has a great ERA and WHIP and a good K/9. No matter if he closes or not, if you keep in as one of your pitchers on a daily basis, it’ll be like shaving off .02 – .04 WHIP from your team’s total by the end of the year.

Eh, they're not as bad as you might think

Obviously, Weeks is our top pick. He’s more of a 2B/SS filler compared to the competition (Cano, Utley when healthy, Brandon Phillips, Kinsler,Pedroia, and others) but he should hit for a high average, rack up a lot of steals, maybe get a good amount of runs scored, and maybe his HR rate will increase. He’s not the best, but he’s worth it. We also have McCarthy. Again, not one of the frontline fantasy players, but he should have a pretty solid stat line barring long injuries of huge falloff for some reason. I think that if Balfour or FDLS is named closer (hopefully Balfour until he’s traded) they should have good stat lines except for SVs. I think that Cespedes would be a good pick for a breakout player but I also think that Carter (if named DH) or whoever wins 1B (unless Barton) might be a potential sleeper and someone to just keep on the bench until you can make a good inference about how they’re gonna do. Might be going out on a limb a little, but I think they’d be primed to have that kind of season more than anyone. Pennington has also been a slightly lesser version of what I described Weeks as being (not terrible average, a couple HRs, solid steals numbers, and a decent amount of runs scored)

Weeks is the only one with huge potential

but McCarthy, Balfour, Anderson will hold some value

I agree with the Jarrod Parker – Guy looks like the Next Matt Latos -

I'm in a league that doesn't have k/9

but does have k/bb, so McCarthy’s actually really good in that league – better than Weeks
