I think I kicked the hornet’s nest over on the offline side of things. So, I thought I might spend a bit of time here with you guys in safety while the buzzing subsides. Looking at the sidebar, however, I think I’ve stepped out of the fire and into the firepan.

That’s awesome. Congratulations.
Case in point: Today, I received one of my Holiday Thank You Cards—the one I wrote to myself. And the last two sentences my past self wrote to my then-future-self reads, “Some bonds are unbreakable. Embrace them.”
I'm sick...I like history text books especially the ones from Texas...who knew Jesus fought beside George Washington against that evil Brit from the Mel Gibson movie.
I certainly didn’t invent the idea. It is a good way to bring newbies into the posting circle though. It would be kinda cool if it were actually implemented here,
Every now and then I stop futzing about and try to say something intelligent.
And I did know what I was talking about. At least, I had absorbed enough from people who do know what they’re talking about to pass it on and make it seem like I knew what I was talking about.
I do slam poetry (which generally doesn’t lend itself well to this sort of forum), and it was fun to spew a bit in that vein about the A’s, even if it was in a drunken manner.
It is really really fun to watch people just lay it down.
I don’t have the right rhythm for words but I love watching other people do their thing. Whenever you feel it build up, feel free to unburden yourself here. You’d have at least one fan.
I’ve had some experiences where the written versions don’t carry the same meaning as when I speak it.
Case in point: I got into the advanced poetry writing class at my college as a freshman (hard to do), so I was all excited, but everyone was real critical of my writing during the critiquing periods. However, at the end, when we were supposed to read it to the class, everyone was like “oh, THAT’S how it was supposed to read? I didn’t get that at all! That’s much better!”
So pretty much I’ve internalized that I have no idea how to communicate poetry in writing, but do a pretty decent job of it when speaking. But if people actually like it here, maybe I will consider doing a bit more (maybe even non-drunkenly!)
And I say ‘we’ with certainty. I’m also perusing the meta threads and seeing some old names. And while I didn’t start posting long after the hey-day, I remember back to a time when stats pieces weren’t the only hugely rec’d posts. There was some incredible stuff by Apricot and FreeSeatUpgrade. Tons of word nerds still here though. So you’d definitely have an appreciative audience.
As to the translation from the page to the voice, well, I reckon it takes a bit of imagination to feel the words pour down, doesn’t it? The nitwits from your freshman class form, as stat-brethren are fond of saying, a small sample size. Disregard them.

It is brutal, melted plastic, regret. Sandpaper and countdowns a night that lingers out of curiosity. I think I’m cracking. Spidery fingers in the asphalt. I’m unflinchingly meta. I’m tightly wound. I’m unwound. I’m frayed. I’m afraid. This is a problem. What have you done to my mind?
It is quivering, gasoline, drunk on bad decisions. I’m sorry I cut you I walk like foreboding I wonder if I’ll live to see marriage I cannot resist the vulnerable hunch of your shoulder I retract my apology. You never told me you were a hellcat. I would have run sooner. But still. right. to. you. I think I’m slipping.
You hurt like an engagement ring. A summer lawn, jumping through sprinklers where the rainbows are almost palpable. You hurt like divinity.
It’s a common occurrence to really like new poems you write, mainly because they’re new, so it helps to share them a bit. It makes you look at them from a different viewpoint, which helps you seem them clearer I think.
But I’ve been kept busy, so I’ve not had to think about the fact that all my friends are hundreds of miles away and I have NOTHING to do on the weekend.
Although all my friends are in committed relationships, so I at least avoid being the third wheel for a time. And I’m jealous of that.
Hear your call perfectly. First weeks are always difficult. And I have nothing more substantial to say except that time does make it somewhat better. About the rest, I am afraid, Bed is right. If you shun a city, it will shun back. Best thing to do is to jump in and see what you like.
Are the coworkers friendly? Maybe start there.

and this was back when Bloom was on hours a day and I was here all the time and Pam and mikev were here….things have changed…..now I hit it hard and then go away for weeks and Bloom is busy and Pam is AWOL and well, you know what happened to Mike.
But hopefully, everyone finds time and has the desire to drop by once in a while a say hey. Not to mention that the lounge especially is very tightly knit and connected in non-AN media as well as in the physical world. So it wouldn’t be terribly difficult to keep in touch.
so I can’t tailgate or go to the get togethers…..AN has really helped me keep my interest in the A’s and it’s because I like to hang out with you guys.
I’ve said it before. Without the triumvirate of Bloom, Bed and Ozz, we’d never break over a couple hundred comments per night. I remember my first summer and fall we used to get up to fifteen hundred comments before eleven. And that’s when I’d show up.
Bloomie, I’m sorry it’s a mixed bag right now but I’m thrilled about the job. Really really. I don’t doubt that, three months from now, our conversation will be as different and seem as ancient as the one three months ago does now. Time will make fools of us all. Fortunately, in the lounge, we’ll find people who’ll laugh at us and with us.

I’ve had some experiences where the written versions don’t carry the same meaning as when I speak it.
Case in point: I got into the advanced poetry writing class at my college as a freshman (hard to do), so I was all excited, but everyone was real critical of my writing during the critiquing periods. However, at the end, when we were supposed to read it to the class, everyone was like “oh, THAT’S how it was supposed to read? I didn’t get that at all! That’s much better!”
So pretty much I’ve internalized that I have no idea how to communicate poetry in writing, but do a pretty decent job of it when speaking. But if people actually like it here, maybe I will consider doing a bit more (maybe even non-drunkenly!)

It is deep-set, distended, heavily breathing. Sulfur and purity and a slow ache that refuses to fade to black. I think I’m breaking. I’m making the best of it. I’m making the worst of it. I’m not sure exactly what “it” I’m supposed to be making something of. I no longer believe I’m immortal. You saw to that with one too many strolls across my eyelashes. The tension’s too heavy. What have you done to my body?
It is ground up cynicism, stitched photographs, skyscrapers and charcoal. And you kiss back too hard. Pursed Lips and Deep Breathes, the finish a death dance. We’re ripping off a band-aid, we’re taking shots. What have you done to my mind?
