Open Thread II: Game 143 - A's at Texas
by emperor nobody on Sep 14, 2009 7:10 PM PDT
Thanks to the
Rangers' SS (pictured in an archive photo above) bobbling a relay on a
Ryan Sweeney RBI double to extend the 6th, and an encore double from the very same Sweeney to clear the bases in the 7th (when the A's batted around), we are 7-0 A's as we stretch... doing our best to drive a stake deep in the heart of Texas' playoff chances =)
WELCOME FRIENDS
ROOM 2 ROAM IN THESE PARTS

BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
I see crack!
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
don't worry
CalTrans was able to consult with the Richmond Baseheads Association and get the crack in the Bay Bridge smoked just fine.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009

He got the way to move me
Tomko, that is
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
I just can't get enuf
of these Bill King highlight reels, I could listen to these all day.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
I knew that I would be punished for turning to the NFL game
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
OK Ellis
No more pop-outs to 2nd!!
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
you mean
no more 2008 Ellis?
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Who'd we get Tomko from? Padres?
and for cash, right?
man, what a steal
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Cardinals??
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
Yankees?
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
well, he was on the Yankees at one point this season
I just don’t remember the order
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
released by the yankees, signed by the A’s.
AV - September 14, 2009
Did he ever play for the Cardinals?
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
outside of my rA’sdar range.
AV - September 14, 2009
I just went and look - here it is
CIN, SEA, SDP, STL, SFG, LAD, TOT, KCR, NYY
some of the above more than once…..so the answer to the original Q?? Yes he did play for ST. Louis.
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
no fair waiting till the 6th comment to ask the original question!
but seriously, he’s like johnny cash this guy.
AV - September 14, 2009
Pennington!
ElQuesoCapitan - September 14, 2009
E.Gon is pitching tomorrow. Meh.
whiteshoes40 - September 14, 2009
2 knocks each for each and Dale
These are things I like. They give me hope for the future.
And by future, I mean 2010 season, cuz I don’t want them starting in 2011.
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
more runz! but Kennedy is not so smart.
whiteshoes40 - September 14, 2009
What?
No double? I don’t understand.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
wow it's 9-0
I would imagine we will get 2 hits tomorrow night and lose 1-0, but you gotta love this right now.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
It's such a crapshoot everynight!
You never know what A’s you’ll see – although the second half A’s are a bit more decent.
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
I think
the team has played very well the 2nd half, with improvement shown in key areas.. this coupled with the continuing onslaught being provided by the future A’s like Wallace and Carter in the minors gives me at least a modicum of hope we won’t be 22 out next September and beyond.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
We became a "team" after Holliday left town
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
I am hopeful for next year - although I understand the FULL strength "new" A's are expected in 2011
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
Sad but likely true
I feel for the Rangers and am suddenly happy that the door is not closing on us. They are done.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
i was thinking that too. that this is the ranger’s time to face reality and it must hurt a bunch while the A’s and us have already gone through it.
AV - September 14, 2009
I will be angry if that happens.
(I’m going to the game tomorrow. And I am expecting a victory. Or else.)
whiteshoes40 - September 14, 2009
More runs.
ElQuesoCapitan - September 14, 2009
bad calls giveth
and bad calls taketh away
DDroney - September 14, 2009
JaMarcus Russell is horrible but RRS disagrees
Threw a pick already.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
Yeah, we judge quarterbacks on one pass.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Dude. Don't be mad.
He just really doesn’t appear to be a starting QB.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
He has played for one year, but yeah, he’s already not an NFL quarterback.
Look at what he did down the stretch last season.
Those are winning teams that he faced down the stretch of last season in his first year as a starter.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Don't bother selling me. I'm not buying it.
I hope that I’m wrong because the Raiders being good makes football more interesting.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
No one buys good numbers!
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
That's 7 TDs, 4 INTs, and a 67% completion rate.
That’s not terrible, but it’s hardly setting the world on fire.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
Um, yeah, those are against teams that are .500 and better and that was his first year starting. You people just don’t get it, do you? He isn’t a ten-year veteran like Peyton Manning.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Hey, I'm not hatin.
I wish him well.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
Me too actually
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
it isn't Russell, it isn't the coach,, it's one man and one man only
hmmm, who could that be?
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
AK broke gameday
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
the Tomko gem continues
career win #100 could be career shutout #2.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
That'd be cool
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
very impressive
He looks totally zoned in, working fast, hitting his spots. He’s going the distance.
DDroney - September 14, 2009
plus his wife is expecting twins any day now!
DDroney - September 14, 2009
delivering on Friday - according to the radio guys.
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
wowweewow, just tuned in. still had to focus and
let that score on the screen reach reality saturation.
ak_A - September 14, 2009
TOMKOMANIA
It’s sweeping the nation.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
Tomko is dealing
Texas Hold ’Em, of course
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Holy doubles, Ryan!
Wow.
whiteshoes40 - September 14, 2009
Tomko also has only 1 K
such a strange SO performance
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Doubles are awesome.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
are we going to have to rename Swingles?
Swoubles?
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Yes, please!
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
MORE DOUBLES LOL
ElQuesoCapitan - September 14, 2009
Sweeney is like the opposite of what I'd want in the 3 spot of the lineup
But damn, he’s making good use of it
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
He might not be a bad choice for the 2-spot though
Especially if he keeps hitting doubles.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
yeah, but he's gotta keep his OBP up if we bat him there
He doesn’t walk enough for my taste
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
RRS rejoices
Raiders score 6-0.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
and the drunk kicks the PAT 7-0
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
Yeah!
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Touchdown!
Oh, wrong thread
OaklandInvader - September 14, 2009
We have 3 field goals here....
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
nope
touchdown + safety
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
I love it when the defense scores.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Or that....
I thought of that after I’d already posted
Or TD with NO point after + FG
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
It's all good
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
The Raiders are here.
Rated-R Superstar - September 14, 2009
Geren is lovin' the uptick in our offense
He will be here for years to come…
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
I was looking at our W/L record and with Geren it's three straight loss seasons.....
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
I dislike Geren very much
but the roster hasn’t given him much of a chance to compete.
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
I know.....that gets factored into the stats for sure but only for ppl that are very familiar with the team.
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
well it’s all those tough breaks and a couple of bad bounces. those could have been anybody’s seasons but that year they weren’t his…
AV - September 14, 2009
That's Geren speak - I think?!?!?
;-)
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
i tried. don’t have the cadance quite right yet. i mean, everybody here’s 3/4 awake still.
AV - September 14, 2009
I want double digits
Come on Hairstyle, one more hit…
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
...crap.
IowaA'sFan - September 14, 2009
I blame you
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
He is good at disappointing us
ohtobe21likehuston - September 14, 2009
to the 9th!
sippin on a BT shutout.
emperor nobody - September 14, 2009
but I did spiiiiill an earned ruuuun
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
Brett Tomko shut out the Rangers while camping underneath the stars?
DDroney - September 14, 2009
Boy did it feel good.
ElQuesoCapitan - September 14, 2009
It's a fresh game stat by the BBQ
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009
can't believe Tomko's still pitching.
This is so bizarre.
whiteshoes40 - September 14, 2009
he sure is durable tonight. like some kind of sandlot truck that can’t be destroyed…
AV - September 14, 2009
there's a K
2 more outs
cityplANner - September 14, 2009
I love those curves....
BERRYJO - September 14, 2009

BERRYJO - September 14, 2009

Bush interviewing Brett Wallace
OaklandSi - September 14, 2009 via mobile
Wow, really? 9-0
Tomko magic pixie dust continues to work. I tell you, we need to sign Tomko again next year — not for his pitching, but for his effect on our offense.
