Though I wonder, if the Royals were so wild, why is everybody pissed that the A’s weren’t swinging? Shouldn’t the A’s have done exactly what they did?

Sammy Sarcasm replies: I think the general idea is to take the balls but swing at the strikes,

and to put the ball in play when an out can score a run. The fact that the Royals weren’t throwing strikes at one point doesn’t really excuse Cust giving himself the “take sign” on a crucial 3-2 pitch down the middle at another.

It’s not that the A’s should have scored a fourth run in every chance they got — but they should have scored in one of them.

I didn't mind the no bunt

I was surprised with Rajai, but I certainly would not have bunted with Suzuki. The whole point is to get your best hitters up to hit, not to take the bat of your best hitters’ hands so you can hope for Jack Cust not to strike out.

I agree that the bunt is 100% based on the situatiuon and who is at bat. I wasnt commenting on whether they were right or wrong, I was just saying that it was unusual to hear them ripping Geren on the post game show…

Personally, I don't think Geren managed poorly at all

I like that he let Sweeney hit in a “bunting situation,” same with Suzuki, and he put in bad relievers because the team was behind and guys like Wuertz and Breslow are way overused. Heck, he only let Marshall face two lefties, so he even used Marshall relatively well.

I know hindsight is 20/20

As an example had Everidge still been with the club I would PH for Cust even though it would have been righty on right.

At least when Everidge was here he did a good job in the 9th inning and certainly would not have looked stupid taking one down the middle. Now I am not saying Everidge is a better player because he had mixed results while he was up here but he may well have been a better option in that situation. Just using him as an example.

As it turned out, the ballboy would have been a better option in that situation.

They should certainly be ripping on Marshall

He does not have the necessaries to succeed in the major leagues. Unless you pitch him against like 1 LHB in a game otherwise he becomes a huge liability when pitching to even 1 RHB. Trouble is he throws at like 34 miles an hour and locates the pitch right down the middle to the RHB who sees it coming about 11 seconds before it gets to the plate
