This is why you watch the games -- who would have predicted that by now, Landon Powell would have a straight steal of home, Erick Aybar would have gotten a foul ball stuck in his corn rows, and the A's would have turned a 5-9-2-4-7 triple play? Anyway, 23-1 A's going to the bottom of the 6th...{please be right...please be right...please be right...}

GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
We really need some new-thread mojo!!!
Kallus - August 29, 2009
we need some new season mojo
cityplANner - August 29, 2009
We need new mojo
in general
ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
or end-of-the-season mojo
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Rigamaroll
ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
this is the "A's score mucho runs" rally thread
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
YAY!! I'm glad I stayed
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
It's always dangerous starting a thread when the other team is at bat.
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
Stupid Otto.
iglew - August 29, 2009
What would Nietszche say about that?
Nick - August 29, 2009
Disappointed!!
BleedGreen - August 29, 2009
ca....ca-ca-cahhh...ca-ca-----caahhhh..
ak_A - August 29, 2009
KKKKennedy...MMMM
mah…mah
Kennedy makes an error?
Kennedy makes an error!!!
BleedGreen - August 29, 2009
Aristotle was not Belgian.
Englishmajor - August 29, 2009
I think it was set to post at 8pm
so the Slegna weren’t batting yet
Kallus - August 29, 2009
lets go now how about a 3rd out, and then a gigantic offensive inning lol
drmmerchk - August 29, 2009
Or a hit batter and a fight
Either would work for me
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
this is a solid plan
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
12 runs following a chone figgins throw-the-ball-into-the-dugout error.
ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
No F-ing way
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
the AK way
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
Fricken Kennedy!
Are you kidding me? Horrible!
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
House of horrors for AK
He’s had like 4 errors in 3 games
cityplANner - August 29, 2009
did you know the raiders were tearing up our field today?
OakA'sHoney - August 29, 2009
But apparently not in a good way!
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Looks like the Saints did most of the tearing
Nick - August 29, 2009
Niners just won I think
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
yes they did. our 3rd string beat their 3rd string.
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
"Our"?
I honestly don’t know if you mean the Niners or not.
iglew - August 29, 2009
it's too hot for football
it was 90 degrees here today
OakA'sHoney - August 29, 2009
of course
smh
drmmerchk - August 29, 2009
fielding slump... okay
ak_A - August 29, 2009

ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
An error at 3B by Kennedy?
There’s something you don’t see every day.
Oh, wait. Yes, you do.
iglew - August 29, 2009
In all fairness-
He’s not a 3rd baseman.
brian.only - August 29, 2009
Gray finishes that shit up
ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
always a rivercat but never an A for long.
ak_A - August 29, 2009
ok you bastards!!! score some runzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
thank you
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
I hate Mickey Hatcher
Absolutely one of my least favorite players ever.
Nick - August 29, 2009
i am so there
ak_A - August 29, 2009
Kennedy
It’s not realistic to expect Kennedy to be a good third baseman, but it would have been nice if he was adequate.
bear88 - August 29, 2009
Up to now - he's been not so bad
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
It really shouldn't be that hard to just grab an easy grounder at 3B if you can do it at 2B
Nick - August 29, 2009
maybe hes trying to show
his old team and fans that he still has it. He shouldnt do that.
BleedGreen - August 29, 2009
He's probably rushing
Figgins is fast.
Nick - August 29, 2009
John Wooden used to say, "Be quick, but don't hurry"
Nick - August 29, 2009
and he had a roster better than the Yankees
ohtobe21likehuston - August 29, 2009
Yeah...
I wish Kennedy was the offensive player Hannahan wasn’t…and vice verse.
of course it would even be better if we had the 2003 Erick Chavez, but I digress.
BleedGreen - August 29, 2009
Oh hell
you know what I mean.
BleedGreen - August 29, 2009
blend the two??
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Hannahan's D & AK's O
adragon - August 29, 2009
what do we know about this pitcher?
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
He's not Weaver
So that’s an improvement.
bear88 - August 29, 2009
we know he's going to give up 6 runs this inning
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
is Jahvid still not practicing?

ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
Not a real good night so far for AK
Nick - August 29, 2009
Holy shit
I just get home in time to see Ellis single & by the time I get my computer up we have a run with runners at 2nd & 3rd with nobody out.
adragon - August 29, 2009

drmmerchk - August 29, 2009
Geez, show a little emotion Vince!
Kallus - August 29, 2009
i swear he gets more emotional over opponents' rallies and defensive plays
cuppingmaster - August 29, 2009
you would've thought it was a routine grounder from the way he called it!
Kallus - August 29, 2009
I've noticed that too.
WTF!
brian.only - August 29, 2009
Woo! Rajai!

DDroney - August 29, 2009
a pitch out , a throw to first, and another pitch and that's it.
ak_A - August 29, 2009
ok, i'll take 3 and a tie game
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
WTF?
My wife comes home from a party. I have a short conversation with her. I return to the game.
It’s tied!
Wha’ happen?
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
Tell your wife to party ffor like an hour more
Then come home
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
Didn't see that coming!!
rats
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
2nd CS on a pitchout in two days by Raj
and like I said yesterday, it’s better for the A’s to discover the downside to the running game this year, when the losses don’t matter as much (hopefully) as they will next year.
Nick - August 29, 2009
that's a good point
Raj is fast, of course. But he’s still learning how to be a base-stealer
Kallus - August 29, 2009
He's already come a long way.
He was a baserunning disaster in the first third of the season.
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
Raj is 28
and has played nearly 1,000 games as a professional.
He’d better pick up the pace, because in about 2 or 3 years he’s going to slow down enough that the learning won’t do him that much good.
Nick - August 29, 2009
I actually suspect that these few months may be the brief prime of Rajai Davis
We should all enjoy it while it lasts.
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
wow, didn't know he was that old
Kallus - August 29, 2009
It's always hard to just a squirrel's age!
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
It's easier with Raccoons
You just count their rings.
Nick - August 29, 2009
(rim shot)
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
If he were younger, the Giants wouldn't have DFA'd him
Nick - August 29, 2009
Well he will have to reduce the "auto-steal" mode
It could help with getting better counts if he picks his spots a little better. Still love him.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 29, 2009
The other team capializing on a weakness
or lack of experience?
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
SIDE NOTE
They might want to see if some one is stealing signs because that is the second strait game Raji has been picked off after some thing like 15 SB in a row.
adragon - August 29, 2009
Raj has to keep trying
My fantasy team depends on it

asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
How much does it reduce for CS?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 29, 2009

DDroney - August 29, 2009
I think an Oriole did it a few years ago.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
Bo Jackson did it, and famously so.

Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009

Maybe even two good hitters (and a pony) if we're lucky!
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
did he eat the original daric barton?
harendaman365 - August 29, 2009
Maybe
but if he doesn’t hit really well he’s not worth much (since his D and baserunning are nothing special). And there’s not much reason to give him a ton of ABs.
Nick - August 29, 2009
We need Wuertz and Bailey to repeat their Thursday night appearances
Trainman - August 29, 2009
So the PS3 is now dropping down to $299 with 120g hd
I’m wondering, since I’ve already converted allegiances to XBox, should I bother to go back to the PS. I had both a PS1 and a PS2…
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Not really
ElQuesoCapitan - August 29, 2009
I have both bro
Its cool to have them both hooked up and ready to roll
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
is the enough variance to justify both tho?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
I'd say that depends on how much you game AND if you can't get all the games you want on the single platform
AND if you have the disposable income, of course. AND how conspicuously you like to consume
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
that last bit bothers me a bit,
but I don’t really consume in other areas of my life…
And I’m not sure on the single platform angle…
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Sounds like the justifications are going well....
LOL
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
yes....
quiet you!
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Blue ray and some other things
Plus some games only come on the PS3. Are you fairly wealthy? Then you shuld own both.
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
I'm so rich I own a sign shop,
THE sign shop of Sarasota.
I’m bad. I’m Nationwide.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
You should also get a WII then
Have all 3 just to kill time in your life, lol
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
After all-in a few short weeks we'll have allllll kinds of time to kill.
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
we will?
oh. yeah.
well, there’s always football, though it is a poor substitute. And seems to get poorer and poorer, the older I get….
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
PS3 is a better machine
if you want to do other stuff with it, hack it, etc
cuppingmaster - August 29, 2009
can't be any worse constructed.
these xboxes fall apart when you sneeze.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
pretty much
although project natal looks freakin awesome if it ever comes to fruition. i’m not even a gamer and i’ll get it

BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Wallace and Carter are each

Trainman - August 29, 2009
Why aren't you at the game raising your blood pressure?

adragon - August 29, 2009

Actually, I am quite sure he does not care at all about my opinion of him. But he’s still doing a nice job of proving me wrong.
bear88 - August 29, 2009
Hitting .333 before tonight over his last 40

There's a radio ad for some local event
where Rajai answers fan questions. They pronounce his name funny. Like the first two syllables of “Regina”.
iglew - August 29, 2009
I heard that too!
I was gonna comment on it but the last time ou called me petty. ;)
pam5981 - August 29, 2009
I called you petty? About what?
iglew - August 29, 2009
Can't remember...something radio-y pronunciation-y.
pam5981 - August 29, 2009
Must have been a typo.
I left out the “r”! ;-)
iglew - August 29, 2009
Nice one.
pam5981 - August 29, 2009
I found it.
It was “Ma-zayr-oh”. I totally was not calling you petty. I just said that the reason I didn’t post the same thing because I was afraid I’d be being petty if I did so.

OakA'sHoney - August 29, 2009

we want travis
Deborah51 - August 29, 2009
Not as useful defensively as a backup
Also, Buck hasn’t been hitting as well, and probably needs regular playing time, which isn’t the point of the callup right now.

i guess the truth hurts

Raji might be fast but he is a piss poor base runner
adragon - August 29, 2009
You go halfway with 1 out
Suz crushed that ball, too
hero66 - August 29, 2009
With one out and a ball hit to RF you go to tag up because you can score if it falls in anyway
adragon - August 29, 2009
Does Patterson just try to hard?
asfaninpismobeach - August 29, 2009
no.
he’s just not talented at baseball.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009

Kallus - August 29, 2009
they referred to the dinners as "banquets"

Thirsty miners demanded a banquet beer?
I highly doubt it.

cheap beer provided banquet beer

BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Nah. Every team needs to take advantage of their opponent's weaknesses.
pam5981 - August 29, 2009
Totally agree. Smart play.
If Bailey can’t beat an attempted bunt, he shouldn’t be out there. Fortunately he can.

Deborah51 - August 29, 2009

Exactly.
pam5981 - August 29, 2009

Dancing is all about confidence projection...
and having a purple tuxedo shirt with ruffles
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
you wanna come too?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
As long as indie pop/new wave comes on after Kool and the Gang im in
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
okay. I need your build and/or general demeanor.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
I'm pretty sure he's the skinny man.
iglew - August 29, 2009
haha but my skinny jeans have bell bottoms
so Im hipster awesome rather than hipster toolbag :-P
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
okay.
Care to dance with a fat man, a curvy hot woman, a medium built man, another curvy hot woman, and a skinny hipster dude in Seattle?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Im not in seattle but if were doing it there im bringing friends
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
sigh.
okay, who are they?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
My best friend from college is up there
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
what's he like?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
On going to the mariners game
“Wait were 21 now, I bet baseball with beer is amazing”
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
My perspective is warped by my years in the theater.
Always the worst part of my audition experience, by far.
iglew - August 29, 2009
Being told how to dance would totally ruin it.
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
All of my favorite dances to dance
are very dorky-looking.
iglew - August 29, 2009
Chicken Dance -anyone?
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Learn to swing dance... its not that hard and super fucking cool
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
If you're groovin to the music it can't be bad in ANY way
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
oh, it's bad.
I just don’t care.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
women aren't "thick", they're "curvy"
Kallus - August 29, 2009
k.
but do I hafta rewrite?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
no, course not
I’m just saying, for future usage, that curvy is preferable to thick.
Kallus - August 29, 2009
Bunk.
Thick is thick and curvy is curvy. They do frequently go together, but they’re not the same thing.
If the concern is that women don’t like the word, that’s only because they don’t hear it often enough with the proper appreciation.
iglew - August 29, 2009
I agree,
but Kallus was not alone in objecting and the fact that Pam ran off suggests that perhaps she agrees as well…
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
I don't disagree with the first part
but really, in this world, women are supposed to appreciate being called thick? One may have good intentions calling a woman thick, but women in general don’t hear it that way. Don’t get me started on the perception of women’s physiques in this society.
Kallus - August 29, 2009
true.
and a sensitive person should recognize that.
Pam, please allow me to publicly apologize for referring to you as thick and allow me to change my adjective of choice to curvy. I meant zero disrespect.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
It's a cultural thing
“Thick” is well-understood in most African-American communities, and I had thought it had spread to white folk by now. It’s not just a euphemism for fat and it’s not a synonym for curvy. Urban dictionary gives a pretty good idea. It’s almost almost complimentary. It’s no more likely to be used disparagingly than, say, “buxom”.
Short answer to your question: yes, they are.
iglew - August 29, 2009
well, regardless, I hurt Pam's feelings, so I'm a big fat jerk.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
We'll make it up to her somehow.
She likes maps and etymologies. And Fenton’s.
iglew - August 29, 2009
I can agree that thick is good
that’s not what I’m trying to say. It’s a question of perception. I don’t believe that when a woman is complemented as being “thick”, she receives the intention of the statement. Thick is great. Curvy is great. This culture of wafer-thin supermodels…not so much.
Kallus - August 29, 2009
OK, so how do we beat the culture?
Here you have two guys celebrating the virtues of the non-wafer-thin female form. You find this counterproductive?
Maybe we’re being insensitive doofuses for talking about it at all, but surely you can’t object to our aesthetic.
iglew - August 29, 2009
agrd.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
wait, what?
I’m agreeing with everything you just said. It’s the terminology that we disagree on. You say thick, I say curvy. Enough already.
Kallus - August 29, 2009
You say potato, I say onion.
They’re not the same thing.
iglew - August 30, 2009
They can be both.
I love me some thick.
iglew - August 29, 2009
agrd.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
That's a much nicer way to decribe....
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
curvy better than thick?
But….good things are thick…..shakes and penises (peni?)….
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Most of us don't encounter more than one at a time,
obviating the need for a plural.
iglew - August 29, 2009
Some descriptions just go better with some items.....
I’m not even gonna go there on the plurals…..
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
but I think we can all agree
that thick shakes and thick penises/peni are better than curvy shakes and curvy penises/peni.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
probably
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
curvy shakes anyhow.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
I didn't want to go here, but if only to get
you to stop typing that monstrous aberration “peni” I will.
The authentic Latin plural for “penis” is “penes”. You will occasionally see this used in scientific contexts, or in related words like “hemipenes” (yes, some creatures have forked ones and each half is a “hemipenis”).
But there’s no reason to use it in ordinary English. The proper plural is simply “penises”.
iglew - August 29, 2009
Dude, I'm gettin' a hemipenis!
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
(peni)
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
It's the white shoes that make it perfect
Englishmajor - August 29, 2009
The Gators really do make it.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Come ON!!!
There’s a party going on…..
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Where?
right here.
That’s where.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Hot-Cha!
Axl - August 29, 2009
Ha!
HahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
HA!
Boonee - August 29, 2009
I was expecting that call to go against us
Nice to see it called right
TerrySteinbach - August 29, 2009
Alright, I'm out for now
But I’ll be posting from the game tomorrow. Gonna try and figure out how to post mobile pics.

BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
that's a good point
I never claimed to be competent legal council
Kallus - August 29, 2009
LOL
but Im sure RRS is going to say that you are a competent wingman.
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
For him, I would be a great wingman. I'd dive on grenades left and right.
Kallus - August 29, 2009
I like when being with a 17 year old is your alibi rather than cause of your run in with the cops
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
LOL
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Well, so much more pleasant to drop in on a game where we actually have a lead, then watch the opposition FAIL so egregiously to lose the game.
Sure beats last night’s experience.
doctorK - August 29, 2009
Recap Chone!
(shakes fist at Ken doing recap)
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Ha ha Chone!!
(shakes fist in victory)
(then sticks his toung out at him)
adragon - August 29, 2009
good.
now remember, no Chone on the A’s next season. We don’t wants him.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Unless he's choh-nee
iglew - August 29, 2009
right.
as we agreed.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Davis is now 7th or so in the AL in SB
Most of those ahead of him have nearly, (or more than), twice as many at bats. This is why Billy Beane is a genius.
Axl - August 29, 2009
I thought Billy Beane was a genius because he wrote MONEYBALL
Joe Morgan told me so!
GreenNGoldSooner - August 29, 2009
Joe
is so dull he’s brilliant again. That’s where he gets you.
Axl - August 29, 2009
Usain Bolt for starting CFer?
designatedforassignment - August 29, 2009
He would have a hell of a first step
and how many SB’s would he have in a season
adragon - August 29, 2009
a lot.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
He'd have to stop with the little lightning bolt hand gestures, tho
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Anybody else notice how terrible the guy who does the pre/post game is?
not F.P. but the other guy. You could get really fucked up if you had a drinking game where you took a drink every time he said something wrong.
TerrySteinbach - August 29, 2009
Matt Morrison?
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
But FP's sports coats sometimes leave a lot to be desired.....
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
Ya that's the guy.
TerrySteinbach - August 29, 2009
He sometimes does the halftime thing for Golden State Warriors games. He’s even worse when doing A’s coverage.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
welcome back
just to let you know WE WON!!!!
adragon - August 29, 2009
Word.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
and I'm sure that Raiders game made you feel tons better today.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
ouch!
(way to twist the knife)
adragon - August 29, 2009
it was ugly.
I was not pleased either.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Well, our pass defense is normally good. It just got picked apart by the top-ranked offense. We’re just terrible against the Saints. We lost to them last year by a 34-3 score. Our run defense, as usual, was poor. We definitely have to take a defensive tackle with our first pick in 2010.
Offensively, we barely had the ball. We don’t run the ball all that much in the preseason since we’re trying to move Russell along. Russell played well (12-for-18 and 153 yards), but the blindside fumble on the first drive killed big time.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
Let's see now...
Al will pick the most exciting offensive player available…with the 2nd overall pick!
Kallus - August 29, 2009
I knew my weekend was going down the tubes on Friday afternoon.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
better with A's win, no?
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
Eh, the A’s win helped a very small amount. Still, I’m feeling somewhat better.
Rated-R Superstar - August 29, 2009
good, my man.
Good.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009

okay, so in the little YouTube
scroll down thingie, they list all these other Kool songs, and also Gap Band’s You Dropped a Bomb on Me, which I also love and which fits in well with the Kool stuff. And also they list .38 Special’s Hold on Loosely.
Random.
Leopold Bloom - August 29, 2009
That's funny......b/c my list does not have those songs!!
BERRYJO - August 29, 2009
