So the question being disputed was, “Is it actually a HR?” But if the umps looked at the replay and saw, as I did, that a fan reached over and touched it in play, shouldn’t the umps have actually ruled “ground rule double” and sent Vlad back to 3B?

but i think it’s just hr or call on the field

I think that's a judgment call.

In other words, if the ump thinks Vlad would have scored had the fan not interfered, then the run stands.

but if it's interference then it's a GR double

I don't think that's the actual rule.

I could be wrong, and certainly most of the time the assumption that the runner would have been held at third stands. But I think the umpire uses his own discretion in relation to runners on base when the ball is put in play. The GRD applies to the hitter/runner.

Terrible, terrible call, but...

If Barton fields it cleanly it’s an out at the plate or at 2B for sure. If he makes a decent feed to Breslow, the ump doesn’t have a tough call. So even on that play, it took two misplays by Barton just to make a bad call possible. And that doesn’t even begin to look at the Kennedy error, Ziggy’s horrific 0-2 pitches, and so on.
