by the way Marty Lurie today talked about Sweeney’s good numbers against Santana (one of the few A’s with good numbers). Looks like he’s been the A’s offense tonight.
but for the first time all season, I feel like Cahill has made progress.
He’s throwing more strikes, he’s throwing his changeup much more often, and much more often for a strike, and he’s getting more swinging strikes. His strikeout rates are still low, but the groundball rates have gone way up, and if he keeps it up, the strikeouts will rise too.
He still needs to work on either his slider or his curveball if he wants to realize his potential, but for the first time all year, I really feel like he’s getting close to being ready to pitch in the majors.

He's still not looking great,
but for the first time all season, I feel like Cahill has made progress.
He’s throwing more strikes, he’s throwing his changeup much more often, and much more often for a strike, and he’s getting more swinging strikes. His strikeout rates are still low, but the groundball rates have gone way up, and if he keeps it up, the strikeouts will rise too.
He still needs to work on either his slider or his curveball if he wants to realize his potential, but for the first time all year, I really feel like he’s getting close to being ready to pitch in the majors.
