that, I could do. though it makes that FUCKHEAD sound like royalty. And i do mean FUCKHEAD. If he were in front of my car, I would FLOOR the accelerator. No joke.
The Yankees usually score on homeruns but are below average in hitting in the clutch.
And this ballpark is not the most conducive setting for homeruns, even though the Yankees are eager to hit flyballs off of Tomko.
That said, I expected to see the A’s score off of Burnett’s wildness/walks, but they’ve done some damage with solid contact. Burnetts one of the tougher pitchers to hit against, but it’s easy to take your walks.
to add to the robot idea and make it more feasible
there could be a robot that FINES for bad calls. a 100 for ball/strikes and an 1000 for plays at the bases. i’m not kidding. some jobs require fining. it’s like being in james brown’s band.
But seriously, when Ellis came up I was thinking that the Yanks should forget “lefty/righty” and forget “OBP” and walk Ellis to pitch to Cust, just because of the way those two guys are going. Fortunately, they pitched to Ellis.
Every so often someone will go to school in the offseason. The O’s signed a pitcher a while ago who got an agreement in the contract to let him go to Stanford in the offseason. There was a story in the paper (I think the Philly Inquirer) about him.
(Krol’s) fastball is consistently 88-90 mph; most have good tailing life but he can run it in on a right-hander’s hands. His changeup is 76-78 with a lot of fading action, while his curveball has good depth and some two-plane break, but he prefers to pitch off his fastball and change. His command and control are both good for a high school pitcher, and he was dominant in three outings in the scout league this spring, although rainouts made him tough for scouts to see. He stays over the rubber well and separates his hands high to keep his arm action short. His stride is long and he finishes in good position to field a ball back at him. He’s not big and doesn’t have great physical projection, but if he does add a couple of mph to his fastball despite that, he could have a No. 3 starter upside.
I think of forgotten as a different category from underrated
VU were underrated at the time, but hardly forgotten or underrated now, for instance. The Cars were incredibly popular (fans and critics) but no one today knows who they were.
It’s an interesting question, though, especially if you try to account for generational differences. Cream’s reunion tour was a big deal (though I’m sure it was all boomers in the crowds).
I think that the reason it is a subcontinent is geologic (ie, on a different tectonic plate), and the reason we hear about it all the time (as opposed to Arabia, which is just as much a subcontinent but rarely called one) is related to the population.
According to ESPN’s Keith Law, the Tigers have signed first round pick Jacob Turner to a $6.25MM bonus.

No college, just minors, winter ball, etc

We're still up by a FG.
Nate - August 17, 2009
nice play BoCro
Lefty73 - August 17, 2009
nice play, bobby
Deborah51 - August 17, 2009
Wow...nothing like proving yourself against your old team to get you five scoreless innings.
Is everybody on the Brett Tomko train now?
pam5981 - August 17, 2009
Sign him to a long-term contract.
idunno723 - August 17, 2009
aww well
lets not get beside ourselves
Lefty73 - August 17, 2009
C'mon! That's exactly the type of overreacting I was looking for!
pam5981 - August 17, 2009
He will pitch Game 7 in the WS

ohtobe21likehuston - August 17, 2009
He provides Veteran presence and is a good influence on the young starters.
haha I laughed when I typed that.

I made that.
Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009
Was that the temp monkey that did that one?
ZigFan31 - August 17, 2009
did I tell you I had to fire the girl monkey?
my brother said we couldn’t afford two monkeys. We’re a one-monkey shop.

I've got 70 of them

Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009
then you would have a movie?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 17, 2009

They need that even more than food, you know.
Nick - August 17, 2009
I dunno, but remaining monkey
better find his fifth (and fourth and third) gear here soon, or he’ll be outside singing the monkey blues, too.
Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009
At first I read that as "singing the outside monkey blues"
and it made me think of this.
Nick - August 17, 2009
THERE'S MY most underrated band ever.
Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009
Cream was underrated?
Nick - August 17, 2009
yup,
well, at the time they weren’t, but ask anyone under 30…
Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009
I think of forgotten as a different category from underrated
VU were underrated at the time, but hardly forgotten or underrated now, for instance. The Cars were incredibly popular (fans and critics) but no one today knows who they were.
It’s an interesting question, though, especially if you try to account for generational differences. Cream’s reunion tour was a big deal (though I’m sure it was all boomers in the crowds).
Nick - August 17, 2009
oooo, that is good!
Underrated versus overlooked…
Leopold Bloom - August 17, 2009

Subcontinent is BULLSHIT.

iglew - August 17, 2009
Yeah, I got that. :)
You really don’t think population has something to do with that classification?
pam5981 - August 17, 2009
Well, if you want to get all serious about it,
I think that the reason it is a subcontinent is geologic (ie, on a different tectonic plate), and the reason we hear about it all the time (as opposed to Arabia, which is just as much a subcontinent but rarely called one) is related to the population.
iglew - August 18, 2009
