A surreal ninth inning sees the A's score three runs off Jonathan Papelbon with the aid of Tommy Everidge's first Major League hit, a double off the very top of the Green Monster, and some very bad Nick Green defense.
7-7 going to the tenth.

Perhaps we don't need pictures!
Perhaps we’ve been wrong to blindly follow the medical traditions and superstitions of past centuries. Maybe we should test these assumptions analytically, through experimentation and a “scientific method”. Maybe this scientific method could be extended to other fields of learning: the natural sciences, art, architecture, navigation. Perhaps I could lead the way to a new age, an age of rebirth, a Renaissance!
Naaaaaahhh!
GreenNGoldSooner - July 28, 2009

That's baseball it ain' fair
sirbed - July 28, 2009

Leopold Bloom - July 28, 2009
Eh. When one of the Yanks or Sux don't make the playoffs this year
Since the Rangers are actually 2nd to the Sox in the WC race, I wouldn’t mind them taking the WC.
It’s better than the Sux, period.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
It only gets my ire up when we play them and I see how loaded they are.
It’s just so stacked in their favor.
Leopold Bloom - July 28, 2009
Yanks and Sux can afford to buy the best
If they have to throw back a few they can take the hit since they make $$$. Unlike us.

I think when the other's team closer is spent,
on the road it makes sense to go to your closer in a tie game. I hope the A’s don’t lose without Bailey ever seeing the mound. No way should Casilla get in before Bailey.

Boonee - July 28, 2009
How often does the TeA'se turn into a sweet win?!
worldblee - July 28, 2009
Rally Rajai
Hit4TheCycle - July 28, 2009
I'm glad to see so many sharing in my hatred for the Red Sox
Even sweeter to get a Blown Save for Papeldouche
JJ - July 28, 2009
Glad to know that I am not the only one,
who has a great loathing for Papledouche.
mrbendy - July 28, 2009
If anyone on AN doesn't loathe that guy
He/She/It should be bANned.
doctorK - July 28, 2009
Now that K-FAIL is on the Mets, Papeldouche is everyone's favorite closer to hate.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
At least until Chamberlain takes over for Rivera
Joey C. - July 28, 2009
Yeah, I think he goes back to the pen eventually.
when the Yanks buy another SP this offseason and send Hughes to the rotation.
Oh, look, its a baboon. No, wait, that’s Joba. Not a baboon.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
Great win! Great win!
mrbendy - July 28, 2009
Board was great fun tonight
Even before the comeback.
RLangford - July 28, 2009
Agreed
Best game board I have joined in on
hishnik - July 28, 2009
It's been a tough season, but the threads have been great!
More whistling past the grave yard than wallowing in misery in bad games. And just lots of fun in good ones.
Thanks for the giggles, all!
GreenNGoldSooner - July 28, 2009
That was a great Game!
Bout time! some Offense!
hishnik - July 28, 2009
Who said this lineup couldn't hit?
JJ Martin - July 28, 2009
Celebrate good times, come on!
worldblee - July 28, 2009
gonna be a long walk for Bill Simmons and his dog tonight.
Benjamin Light - July 28, 2009
who pitched against the a's in the 9th?
gametime_gsw - July 28, 2009
Papeldouche
worldblee - July 28, 2009
The win wouldn't have been the same without him!
GreenNGoldSooner - July 28, 2009
Victory Skittles
doctorK - July 28, 2009
very nice!
mrbendy - July 28, 2009
Garth, your pills!!
ohtobe21likehuston - July 28, 2009

Blicks - July 28, 2009

mrod - July 28, 2009

hishnik - July 28, 2009
A'S WIN YES!!!!
Blicks - July 28, 2009
Another instructive game for the "game over"-ers
Good W.
Joey C. - July 28, 2009
Some of us learned our lesson
from that come back last week!!
BERRYJO - July 28, 2009
Tommeh!
SwisherThresher - July 28, 2009
Nothing better to start a career
than to get that first hit to fuel a ninth-inning comeback, on the way to an improbable win!
Tommeh! indeed!
One won lost won - July 28, 2009
Great night
Skanks lost also
asfaninpismobeach - July 28, 2009
GO A's see y'all tommorrow
Lefty73 - July 28, 2009
Thank you and goodnight, AN!
<3
worldblee - July 28, 2009
Take that Sweet Caroline BIATCHES!!!!
Vacafan - July 28, 2009
Ladies and gentlemen,
We have arrived in Everidge World!
FrankCohen - July 28, 2009
Way to spark the comeback, Tommy Everidge
I have no objective logic to want him out there at first every night. But subjectively, it looks right. It feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels right.
Joey C. - July 28, 2009
he looks as much like a 1Bman as anyone does
cuppingmaster - July 28, 2009
Any _two_ people really!
GreenNGoldSooner - July 28, 2009
I have objective logic to want him out there at 1B every night
at least for the next 15 games.
Less Crosby in the lineup!!! That’s not a bad thing.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
Good call
Joey C. - July 28, 2009
Pappelbon is now officially our bitch!
mrod - July 28, 2009
woof
OakA'sHoney - July 28, 2009
grrr....... ;)
mrod - July 28, 2009
Why didn't someone shaving cream Tommy Boy?
miggyk2 - July 28, 2009
Oh I'm sure he'll get a few in the clubhouse.
mrod - July 28, 2009
too busy measuring him for his "rookie dress"
One won lost won - July 28, 2009
LETS GO OAK-LAND!
Have a good one guys.
Boonee - July 28, 2009
Trailing after 8 innings
The A’s are now 2-47
SwisherThresher - July 28, 2009
tommy everidge
on mlb network
buckfan6 - July 28, 2009
poor kid didn't know what to do.
great to see him get the recognition though.
mrbendy - July 28, 2009
Yea looked more nervous during the interview his first at bat
buckfan6 - July 28, 2009
then*
buckfan6 - July 28, 2009
Just a great great win.
Let’s do it again!
BERRYJO - July 28, 2009
could be the last time we see wuertz pitch
buckfan6 - July 28, 2009
This makes me sad
although I don’t mind Wuertz being traded.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
Why would we trade Wuertz?
Let’s see, he’s not expensive, not going to be a free agent soon.
Oh, he’s one of our GOOD players, that’s why?
SanJoseR - July 28, 2009
That was awesome.
Leopold Bloom - July 28, 2009
More postgame reports
A’s get 6 runs off the Boston BP that had been perfect since the All-Star break. Sweet
SwisherThresher - July 28, 2009
He may have been perfect,
but there have been plenty of times, pre- and post-ASB, that he has almost fallen apart. This guy has huge holes this season and it’s been a long time coming for him. Has dodged WAY to many bullets.
mrbendy - July 28, 2009
And
The last time the A’s overcame a 3-run deficit in the 9th at Fenway…April, 1930
SwisherThresher - July 28, 2009
Wow.
Blicks - July 28, 2009
Tried to find the box score...
but baseball-reference.com’s boxes only go back to 1954.
GreenNGoldSooner - July 28, 2009
