The guy is a good player. His national reputation is greatly enhanced by playing in New York. If he played just about anywhere else, he wouldn’t be lauded the way he is.

I'd argue his defensive shortcomings wouldn't be as much of an issue.

People love to hate him and his defence is the only place they can question his game. If he was out of the spotlight, say in KC people would be saying “hey, who’s this incredible hitter that plays SS for the Royals?”

My question is, why can’t the A’s swing at 3-0 pitches? Hell, they’re out-stealing the Angels lately, why can’t they alter their batting habits on 3-0? If the idea of batting patience is to get the best pitch to drive, what pitch is most likely to be the most “drivable,” if that is a word? Mark Texieria, a superb hitter, swings 3-0, so why wouldn’t lesser hitters swing at the most “drivable” pitch they’re likely to get? This has been discussed before, but I have never heard a reasonable answer.
