A big thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets for the upcoming event! We have met the minimum of 25, so our event is official! We can add to this number, so if you would like to go to AN Day, please buy a ticket and come! I'll start the rumors about special guests; there is a wild one that...BLEZ...might be in attendance!
AN Day will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 6:05 PM, fireworks night! I want everyone to be able to come, so we are selling the tickets for $20 each at the group discount. To order yours, simply PayPal me at baseballgirl1976 at hotmail dot com with your ticket money and your AN username. I sent confirmations today, so if you purchased a ticket, you should have an email from me!
The deadline for tickets will be the end of the month, Friday, July 31st at noon PST. Get yours now!
We are going to hold an AN Tailgate in the parking lot before the game, so the first need I have is a grill (or two). Would anyone be willing to bring their grill to the event? I have received quite a few notes from people who are bringing a certain dish to the tailgate, which is perfect! Keep me posted!
I also need to hear from people who will not be buying tickets with the group, but are coming to the tailgate. Let me know that you are attending!
If you are on the fence, please come! It will be fun. We had a special guest drop by last year, and it is always so great to meet the faces of AN.

THANK YOU!!!
I was hoping you would! :-)
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
Sweet, so I don't need to bring mine!
mikev - July 22, 2009
Yes you do!
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
Oh.
mikev - July 22, 2009
Darn enter key.
what I meant was:
Oh.
I guess I’ll have to get the stainless steel all shined up and blinged out then.
And I’ll also clean off my big ass grill.
mikev - July 22, 2009
Can't wait........Will bring a cake.
I always take the family to one fireworks game a year.
So, we already had tickets for this game.
We missed last year camping, so I’m really looking forward to this.
I just need to know what lot and where?
Mike Heath - July 22, 2009
I already have game tickets
I also have to work that day and am not sure when I can get to the coliseum (my work that day is over when the work is done, not any set hour). If there’s time I will definitely stop by the tailgate to say hi.

Question
Is AN VI going to be more like AN IV or AN V?
grover - July 22, 2009
Pls 2 asplain?
mikev - July 22, 2009
AN 4 had guest speakers and a reserved area for eating
AN 5 was more like a big tailgate party
grover - July 22, 2009
We'll draw you a map.
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
I'd tell you to bite me
But I worry about my knees.
grover - July 22, 2009
:p
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
I will bring french bread and spreads
I will also bring garlic bread, (what is a BBQ with out garlic bread). Let me know if there is any way I can help, (I don’t have a grill I can bring).
adragon - July 22, 2009
This is probably a not nice thing to say, but...
I really loved AN day IV because of the meet’n’greet with Billy Beane and Ken Korach.
I’d rather have a more restrained AN day in the party zone if it means a meet’n’greet with club officials/players/broadcasters in the empty East Side Club afterwards…
Gaijin_Suketto - July 22, 2009
Why, were people falling all over themselves drunk or something?
The only experience I has was the tail end of AN day last year, when Slusser came over and said hi.
mikev - July 22, 2009
yea
I thought we were perfectly civilized that day.
MobiusKlein - July 22, 2009
I'm always pretty fucking classy, myself.
mikev - July 22, 2009
Remove words 3 and 5, and you're good
(jesting!)
MobiusKlein - July 22, 2009
Not true.
But not for a lack of trying, either.
mikev - July 22, 2009
ANers who already had tickets weren't able to participate
only those who purchased one of the AN bloc tickets participated.
I’d prefer the tailgate, personally….then more of us can participate.
OaklandSi - July 22, 2009
It's not "un-nice" to say that.
You’re just stating your preference.
It was cool to have that face time with Billy/Ken. IIRC, last year the group area wasn’t available for the BBQ, and/or maybe no front office people were available on the date that was picked? So the idea of the tailgate was born.
I really love being able to meet and chat with more ANers – which was harder to do with the old setup because the timeline was much more structured and rushed. Some people even came for the tailgate who didn’t stay for the game, which was awesome! And people who already have tickets for the day aren’t excluded.
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
Thank you...
I know that many AN’ers cherish AN day as a chance to meet each other and share triumphs and tragedies. Gathering the tribes is a good thing.
I’m just a hermit loner, so color my opinions appropriately
Gaijin_Suketto - July 22, 2009
Could I come be a hermit loner with you?
We could go bowling or something.
mikev - July 22, 2009
well, that sort of defeats being a hermit loner,
but as long as you pay and don’t talk too much, I’m down.
Gaijin_Suketto - July 22, 2009
hahaha
That cracked me up.
Now I have juice coming out my nose. Thanks
ChickenStanley - July 22, 2009
Come party with us and forget about being a hermit loner for a day!
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
We've gone back and forth on this, and maybe next year, we'll go back.
What I have found, though, is that it was a huge pain for season ticket holders to have to sell their tickets and buy ones with our group (since they won’t let you in the BBQ area without a section ticket), and it is almost twice as expensive (around $40, IIRC). This year, with the economy, I really wanted to keep the ticket prices as inexpensive as possible, and allow for everyone to bring their own food. The food was only served until first pitch, there wasn’t much of a vegetarian selection, and I heard a lot of positive feedback after last year’s tailgate. Not that I don’t have fun with Billy and Ken, but it just seemed to be more natural and relaxed.
Maybe the ideal solution is really to trade off; and to do a game next year with a speaking event. Thanks for your feedback!
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
I think the best solution would be to do two events...
One that is a tailgate that people can buy special tickets for, or drop in on with their regular tickets.
If possible, there should be a second event that’s all about the guest speakers, possibly with proceeds donated to charity… Maybe this event doesn’t happen at the park, or happens in the offseason…
Gaijin_Suketto - July 22, 2009
**BBG's head explodes at the thought of organizing two AN Days**
:)
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
Haha, so true.
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
I actually 100% agree with this.
We should have a day with speakers.
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
We could possibly be having a speaker coming
even though it’s going to be in the parking lot. I’m working on it. But it won’t be someone we’ve ever had before.
Tyler Bleszinski - July 23, 2009
The best solution is to get Billy to come tailgate with us.
He can wear a wig or somethin
mikev - July 22, 2009
agreed
gigglingone - July 22, 2009
after all the anti-Beane sentiment thats been going on around here lately
do you think thats a good idea? If I was BB I wouldnt come within 500 yards of AN
Amnesiac - July 22, 2009
If I were you I wouldn't come within 500 yards of me.
Or ZF.
grrrrrrrr
mikev - July 22, 2009
careful, Ill whoop you with my grilling spatula!
Amnesiac - July 22, 2009
You'll do nothing and like it.
mikev - July 22, 2009
I'll be there!
If I remember when it is and how to get there.
Amnesiac - July 22, 2009
Dude, that is going to be a LOT of guacamole
I have never made my Famous A’s guacamole for that many people, but I am up for the challenge! See you all there!
OptimistPrime - July 22, 2009
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
That’s some good guac!
And if we relieve lynnz of guac duty, then she’ll make some grilled shrimp or bacon wrapped scallops!
Best of both worlds!
And that doesn’t convince people that they need to come to AN Day, I don’t know what will.
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
Thanks Pammy!
Looking forward to seeing you again. Now, just a small matter….what time do we start ’gating and what lot?
OptimistPrime - July 22, 2009
I think we should aim for exactly where we were last year
It was perfect.
In fact, Nico even wrote it on AN last year, so I pulled it off the post:
If you are coming to the AN Day festivities, we are now set up in the East side of Lot A, at the end of rows 12-14.
baseballgirl - July 22, 2009
The game's at 6pm, so we could start fiesta-ing at like 3:00?
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
AM?
mikev - July 22, 2009
Mmmmm.....mimosas....
gigglingone - July 22, 2009
Yeah I make mine weird though.
I use Makers Mark instead of Champagne, and Soda instead of OJ.
mikev - July 22, 2009
Jack and Diet for breakfast.
Yes, please!
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
Why not.
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
I'm willing.
I was thinking I might even do both. If paradox or mikev will let me borrow a section on their grill.
lynnzgal - July 22, 2009
yum.
pam5981 - July 22, 2009
Hey!
We could have a guac throw down! There wouldd be plenty then!
lynnzgal - July 22, 2009
Bahring It Sister!
OptimistPrime - July 22, 2009
Hahaha!
Someone get the chips!
lynnzgal - July 22, 2009
Whee
Oi, I totally haven’t posted much at all this year, but it was fun to meet you guys last time, hopefully we get a 14-13 game :)
tomoyo - July 22, 2009
Maybe next year!
Stupid out of town visitors! Oh well! I’ll be watching on TV and looking for you all!
A'sfansince1970 - July 22, 2009
Can't make it this time...
…as I’ll be stuck here in Canada, but you folks make sure and have a phenomenal time. Definitely want to try for next year. Hope the A’s win on what would have been my A’s-loving Mom’s 64th birthday (miss you, Shorty grin).
Somebody have a hot dog for me. Let’s go, Oak-land! and let’s go AN! :)
Derwood13 - July 22, 2009
I don't know how this always happens...but once again
I can’t come. Last year we were in NY for vacation during AN day and this year we are going to be in Houston for vacation on AN day. I am disappointed…but have fun folks!
