I like when the A's score runs

Dang, I thought we had him.

Sweeney in RF.
Guess he's not in the doghouse anymore
Giambi would have had that.
Doubt it.

He’s been terrible lately.

so would barton
Rated-R

How’s that achilles?

I’ll be back in no time.

Sucks not having a legit first baseman.
That was a TERRIBLE play by Cabrera

He made it into a tough play when it wasn’t one. He has to make that play.

I thought he rushed it with a guy like Hernandez running.

And he twisted his body awkwardly

when he didn’t really have to.

When you hear Flo-Rida Low

Breslow can’t be too far behind

It’s also Willy Aybar’s batter walk-up music.

Is that seriously Breslow's entry music?

Sounds very…un-Breslow.

The stadium sound guy didn't have any Palestrina motets
Is it me or is AN just roomier in general these days?

Bottom of seven, second thread…

They aren't really worth watching unless you have absolutely nothing else to do.

It was bumpin’ on Friday, though.

true.

AN dynamics:

Friday nights are almost always fun and Saturday nights are almost always depressing.

This game started early too
Whats with all the concerts after MLB games this year?
Economy Entertainment

Watch a game, watch a washout.

Matt Holliday is getting real hot. I feel it....
14 games left against LAAAAAAA

That means Oakland is still in it. All they have to do is win 12 out of 14 and they can take the division.

Suzuki is the man.

Take nothing away from Bailey, but he has been our All-Star this year...
Small Ball?

From the Oakland A’s?

Dang the Rays announcers may be more annoying than Fosse.

They watch the replays like 24 times a piece from 8 different angles finally concluding it was a terrible call. If you have to slow it down frame by frame and watch it more than once you can’t blame the ump.

+1. to everything
Holliday looks great today....

Maybe he is starting to heat up…and not at a horrible time….maybe if he starts to play really well teams will start bidding wars….

I think you need more AB's that the last two

With all due respect, he needs to go on a tear and 2 for 2 does not mean he is

Yeah I know

and maybe I’m just hoping, but I see a hot streak coming.

sweeney out of time-out

Can Powell play 3rd?

or 1st? Can Powell Play?

He'll probably be better at 1B than Giambi.
Bad Legs

means he can’t get to pop-ups.

Do we have a back-up to the back-up catcher?
Bobby Crosby

Ryan Sweeney will make up for his hustle, or lack thereof yesterday, by earning an inside-the-park home run.

He will run the bases twice and still beat the throw
Sweeney?

Why is he so invincible out there compared to Buck, Denorfia, or Cunningham?

He has outperformed Cunningham and Denorfia at the MLB level and Buck hasn’t been able to stay healthy in previous years despite a great 2007. This year, though, I guess Buck did something to rub someone the wrong way.

Yeah, what is up with that anyways!?
I think I'd feel better about giving Powell...

a more consistent role at DH.

we scored another run? i missed it.
I hope you're right!
Sweeney is the mannnn
This is a pretty awesome little rally.
Great.

The bats start to warm up, and now we get 3 days off.

woo.

we have good timing.

always...ALWAYS!!!
well, it's happened before when we didn't have 3 days off.
A's tend to do better this time of year
Nice to go into the break on a high - let them cogitate on what the second half could be.....
and that's why pitchers shouldn't fall off the mound on their follow through
As bad as the A's have been it seems the bulk of the runs they have scored

this season seem to come after like the 5th or 6th inning.

Am I imagining things or what?

They seem to either score early or late
or not at all
If true, maybe the starting pitchers should know about this if they want to get credit for a W...
Bob Davidson with the bigtime makeup call

Seriously. I knew he was out as soon as he hesitated at all.

make up call

what a delay

At least Sweeney was running

It’s embarrassing when you don’t run out SBs.

That's getting old.
Breslow for Peña, Bailey for the rest

That’s how I’d do it, and it looks like that’s Geren’s plan.

Great...Bailey is looking at throwing more IPs then our starters this year
He's hardly pitched this week and the A's have 3 off-days coming up

This is when to use him for a 5-6 out save.

Sounds like a plan...
watching on mlb.tv

whenever it goes to break, i have to play music to prevent dead air, so far it’s all happy tunes

Sweeney was safe.
But really, how Bob Davidson got an umpiring job again is a mystery

Especially after how bad he was in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

After game three of the 2003 ALDS in Boston the A's deserve every call until the end of time.
Wow, the Rays announcers are killing this ump.
The Rays announcers are some whiny ass bitches
agree
One good year

Now they think they are entitled to everything.

Bob Davidson

Thanks for calling it safe when it matters, and thanks for the 2 runs.

Could you imagine that plane ride

For Andrew Bailey riding with all the Rays to St. Louis?

I think we should send Landon Powell as his bodyguard.

Damn, he just missed it.

WHAT! Pitch Bailey 2 IPs before the All star game.....I have a feeling he's not going to throw in the all star game by design

Well, I doubt he was going to get the call over Rivera, Nathan or Papelbon to begin with.

its a 9 inning game with the starter maybe going 2 IPs

Let’s say Halladay starts the game and pitches two innings. Greinke, Verlander, Jackson and Beckett all throw one inning afterwards. That’s six innings. Another couple of starters eat up an inning and then there’s a few innings left with Rivera, Nathan and Papelbon available.

That's lame.

I want to see our one all star actually play.

Why?

Haren starting was good, but Bailey in for one batter, so what?

No reason really.

Just for fun. Gives me a little interest in watching.

Good honest answer

Unlike the rest of the internet, where people seem to feel the need to defend every idea to absurdity…

I'd say 2 IP from Bailey today should make him unavailable Tuesday...

…but it’s Bailey.

said it faster
His arm is going to fall off
Didn't he already have TJ?

He should be good to go for a while.

My timestamp link is faster :-)

574 to 586.

crap...you win
time stamp my ass....I nailed that son of a bitch....(top gun)
Okay, but you might have a problem getting your ass back out of this thing

Elsewhere, Zito has allowed three runs without recording an out to begin the game.

He finally got an out.
Don't know why I love seeing him fail...I can't be the only one...

You’re not the only one.

he went across the bay and signed a giant contract....that's reason enough
Eh. Much better than going to the Rangers, Mets, or Yankees.
I'd love him on the Rangers in that ball park with that contract.
That's actually a reason why I still like the guy

He said yes to the BIG money (who wouldn’t) and handcuffed the Giants with his poor play. Go Zito!

Hi folks, just got on

What happened to Anderson?

Yay offense!

Anderson, came out early with injury
F**king crap

Any idea what the problem is? Is it the biceps injury he was nursing?

Back spasms
Hmm, okay

If they caught it early and got him out of there, and with all the extra time he has to rest, that might not be terribly serious.

back spasms

He's like 20 years old.

How’s he going to have back spasms.

All you need to do is move some weird way and your back can start to seize up

End of a road trip, lots of flying could set him up for that, too.

Thats the point, he's 20.

One weird movement isn’t going to paralyze the guy.

Granted he's in FAR better shape

But I started having spams in my early teens. Age doesn’t necessarily matter when it comes to back pain.

I think/hope this is mostly kid gloves

He hopefully didn’t do anything to bad, just felt a tweak in his back and seeing as he is a large part of the future and the A’s aren’t winning anything this season they decided to get him out of there.

Geren has been very protective of the young SP’s this season so I’m hoping this was just him being hyper-cautious.

In any case, they have to limit the young starters' innings somehow

so if a situation like this happens, there’s no reason to keep him in.

He might not feel that terrible, might be just a little tug

Hopefully, the A’s are just being very, very cautious with him. It would be very easy for a “little tug” to turn into a change in his pitching motion that screws up his arm.

And like I said, being young helps but it doesn’t make you immune. He could have slept funny last night, or had a problem with all the flying this road trip.

Bailey has to earn bragging rights for the planetrip

to St. Louis. If they get to him here, it’s a long trip.

If he deals, he’s untouchable on the trip!!

Eight pitches....cannot top that.
sure you can. 3 pitches.
Er, wasn't thinking...you're right.

Apparently, Alan Embree got a win without throwing a pitch! Then, two days later, he broke his leg, and now he’s out for the year!

lucy from twin peak

i just saw lucy from twin peaks in a crack in the box commercial. anybody else catch that?

Gone!

sveet...

hugs for everyone!

UNICORN.....BLAST!!!!
Unicorn! Unicorn! Unicorn!
UNICORN!
fairly new to AN

why is he Unicorn…is it (generally) mythical talent?

I don't know, honestly.

The Ellis = Unicorn moniker was before I joined AN.

(welcome, btw!)

Check the ANcillary terms.

I think it’s in there (should be).

it needs revising, you know.
True. Good ASB project.
Try this

linky

that is pretty damn random
Longish story about a hit (walk-off I think) that won the game and elevated him to mythical status.

Followed by an awesome photoshop of him riding a unicorn. Hence the moniker stuck in a big way here at AN

I also remember

someone posting a photo of a barn with a unicorn painted on the roof, and saying it was the Ellis family farm in South Dakota. I want to find that picture.

C'mon ellis

A Hr? Now you’re just rubbing it in the Rays’ face.

UNICORN POWER
I <3 Ellie!!!!!
13 hits for the A's AND 7 runs

what?

It happens sometimes.
Not often enough this season...but we'll take it when it happens!
Mark Ellis is my hero
But with All Star Break approaching

I’d like to see the Home Run Derby now.

the HR derby is my favorite part of All-Star weekend

the rest meh.

Cabrera continues to stay on fire.

Golf shot by Cabrera
OC actually earning his $4M lately
That was an Energizer Bunny-type hit

Kept going, and going, and …

Ishikawa just fell headfirst into Padres dugout.

Wow.

Hey, what game are you watching?

I'm watching the A's/Rays game

but pulled up a feed of the Giants one on the side, since I like Zito.

I like watching Zito get lit up.

I can't root against him. I have insane manlove.

I’ll root against any other Giants pitcher, but not him.

Except when he’s playing the A’s, of course. But the A’s didn’t face Zito this year.

much to our collective disappointment.
concur

If we had two Zito starts instead of two Lincecum starts, maybe we split the season series.

Oh how I wish they had
Joe Nelson from Alameda?

Chalk up another proffesional athlete from my prolific hometown.

holliday tried to kill ocab with his broken bat

looks like holliday has switched from sunflower seeds to chewing gum

Does that turn you on?

not in the slightest

Huh? east coast day game?

Almost over, and we’re still in the lead. Yay us!

Is LB at this game?
no.

I had, um, things to do here today…

Oh, okay. Sorry you couldn't get out there (in there?) to see the win.
In there.

Definitely in there.

I didn’t think they had a chance to win today since they won yesterday. Friday I was making MMA shorts logos. Yesterday, I was watching UFC 100.

Things like sleep till noon?
...you spying on me?
hey, we're gonna win a series!!
Since we have now won...

I give credit to Crosby acting as the backup bullpen catcher.

You know, you have to give credit where credit is due.

He's almost as valuable there as Geren is warming up the pitcher between innings
Hey, we won!
Damn Bailey.

That was freaking efficient.

Bragging rights

He’s flying to the All-Star game with TB All-stars, and Mgr. Maddon.

Should be a fun trip!

Athletics beat Tampa Bay, 7-3

WaaaHOOO!!

Celebrate good times, come on!
let me know if any come along.
Andrew Bailey to opponents:

“Guys, you can just sit the fuck down, because its a waste of effort to even try.”

And to think Bailey was 1-8 in AA last August

as a starter…

GREAT organizational move.
Here's what I like about game wins like this.....

late inning runs, coming from behind, not giving up, two games where we scored from a deficit, WINNING!!!!!

yea, a’s at home starting thursday, anyone going to the game?

Going to one of em. Have to trade tix for Sat since they changed the game start time.

Looking forward to a game in person!

I can live with never seeing Giambi or Crosby again.
I got here just in time for the fireworks.

Um, there’s gonna be fireworks, right?

VIC - TO - RY

Hurray!

I love silent fireworks.

better'n cowbells.
Fireworks and cowbells.

Both should be seen and not heard.

2 rbis by both suzuki and ellis...nice
6-0 Padres. Zito gives up dinger.
yep

Z is getting bombed. Today is turning out to be a nice day before the break…
