I just would like to see pitchers pushed sometimes to get out of their own 6th-7th inning jams. It’s an important skill for a starting pitcher to have.
To be honest, I didn’t really see that but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t the case. He’s always one pitch away from a DP, and letting guys figure out how to get a couple clutch outs when they’re tiring is not always a bad thing.
Tillman and Cahill are pretty much even. Adam Jones is an absolute star. Sherrill’s a useful player in MLB. Mickolio will probably be a useful player in MLB.

he hadn’t pitched in 3 days. He will absolutely be available tomorrow. The real problems are Ziegler, Casilla and Springer— none of whom are dependable.
Bailey’s on pace for 105 innings. Let’s just completely throw out the fact that he had TJ in 2005 or whatever. His arm is going to melt into a puddle of goo after the all star break – just on principle.
I almost posted a comment on the Trade Holliday? fanpost refering to Major Barbara
suggesting that Beane emulate Undershaft — trade Cabrera or pitching to one contender, then when their rivals start to get worried offer Holliday to them at inflated prices (or vice versa).
Arms dealers always do well selling to both sides in a conflict.
stepdances in the 16th Century Morris style whilst harmonizing on the traditional murder ballad “Long Lankin” is must-see stuff and worthy of Maddy Prior herself, or so I have heard.
Her follow-up — a CD devoted purely to the ballet scores of Erik Satie — is currently (to paraphrase the classic 1977 Phil Collins stage announcement heralding Genesis’s “Spot the Pigeon” EP) racing up the Indonesian charts.
to shine you on with phony-yet-convincing tales of Jordin’s All-European-Progressive-Rock cover album, featuring her stirring rendition of “How the Gypsy Was Born” by Frumpy, but can’t do it, too cruel.

OldhamA - June 6, 2009
he can get there
he’s really only started for most of his career. Once he learns to have that reliever mindset of just airing it out for <40 pitches he’ll be better
cuppingmaster - June 6, 2009
2009 Bailey > 2008 Ziegler
2009 Bailey FIP = 2.99
2008 Ziggy = 3.72
And Wuertz has also done really well.

ohtobe21likehuston - June 6, 2009
you're wrong
he hadn’t pitched in 3 days. He will absolutely be available tomorrow. The real problems are Ziegler, Casilla and Springer— none of whom are dependable.
jasonthea - June 6, 2009
You're wronger.
Bailey’s on pace for 105 innings. Let’s just completely throw out the fact that he had TJ in 2005 or whatever. His arm is going to melt into a puddle of goo after the all star break – just on principle.
sleepingcobra - June 6, 2009
you're wrongerer
wronger’s not a word.
Leopold Bloom - June 6, 2009
Somebody has to be the wrongest
ohtobe21likehuston - June 6, 2009
OSPD allows it as a noun.
iglew - June 6, 2009
really?!
then, O2B, apparently, I am wrongest.

I'm not into the "newer" version of the dictionary
Playing Scrabble is a mess these days.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 6, 2009
I don't like it either, but there it is.
Thank God they didn’t succeed in getting SOWPODS designated for U.S. play. That’s just insane.
iglew - June 6, 2009
Orlando Springs Police Department?
sleepingcobra - June 6, 2009
Ok just googled OSPD
It also allows “za” as a word. The OSPD is not really the “go to” word judge.
sleepingcobra - June 6, 2009
Blame American Heritage for ZA.
OSPD’s protocol leaves much to be desired, but that one’s all on AH.
iglew - June 6, 2009
Mirriam-Webster has wronger too.
I am the wrongest.
Leopold Bloom - June 6, 2009
Merriam

Leopold Bloom - June 6, 2009
“The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism — by those who have not got it.” George Bernard Shaw
Nick - June 6, 2009
I might get that as a tattoo.
OldhamA - June 6, 2009
Who do you think gets more tattooed quote action, Wilde or Shaw?
If there’s an afterlife, I bet they’re both counting!
Nick - June 6, 2009
beeeeeeeuuuuuuuuutful
Always liked GB Shaw and his quotes.
Baseball angle: GB Shaw enjoyed going to a baseball game, because it was so unlike British decorum (e.g. yelling at the umps, berating players).
I don’t have a quote, but rest assured, he put it very succinctly.
One won lost won - June 6, 2009
Ah the Celts, can't get over the fact the English owned them.
OldhamA - June 6, 2009

“Your majesty is like a stream of bat’s piss.”

It was one of Shaw's one of shaws!
Shaw: You bastards!!!
BleedGreen - June 6, 2009
Goddamn GBS. What a bitter old queen.
iglew - June 6, 2009
I almost posted a comment on the Trade Holliday? fanpost refering to Major Barbara
suggesting that Beane emulate Undershaft — trade Cabrera or pitching to one contender, then when their rivals start to get worried offer Holliday to them at inflated prices (or vice versa).
Arms dealers always do well selling to both sides in a conflict.
Nick - June 6, 2009
But we'd be selling one side defective weapons...
OldhamA - June 6, 2009
Cabrera
Nick - June 6, 2009
That, incidentally, is why
the 1970s are a better decade than the 1980s. Goddamn cynical ’80s fucks.
iglew - June 6, 2009
So quaaludes are incompatible with cynicism?

bobnothing - June 6, 2009
I was worried some about whether Cahill would pitch well, but
my main anxiety is over whether or not Jordin Sparks will play her incendiary cover of “21st Century Schizoid Man” by King Crimson.
emperor nobody - June 6, 2009
well-placed, I'm sure.
Leopold Bloom - June 6, 2009
She covers a King Crimson song?
Seriously?
walkoff baltimore chop - June 6, 2009
No, don't be ridiculous
She’s actually doing an entire Steeleye Span set tonight.
Nick - June 6, 2009
I wonder if she'll break out...
Hold Your Head Up by Argent
BleedGreen - June 6, 2009
rumors were flying backstage
that she was gonna scrap the setlist and play the entire “Tales From Topographic Oceans” LP by Yes instead.
emperor nobody - June 6, 2009
the part where she
stepdances in the 16th Century Morris style whilst harmonizing on the traditional murder ballad “Long Lankin” is must-see stuff and worthy of Maddy Prior herself, or so I have heard.
emperor nobody - June 6, 2009
Imagine how many 14-year-old minds that would explode
if she came on stage and sang “All Around My Hat” and “Spotted Cow” and spent the entire 60-90 minute set singing English electric folk.
It would be like Dylan at Newport in ’65.
Nick - June 6, 2009
Dylan was tame
more like Stravinsky premiering “Le Sacre Du Printemps” to a total riot.
emperor nobody - June 6, 2009

Her follow-up — a CD devoted purely to the ballet scores of Erik Satie — is currently (to paraphrase the classic 1977 Phil Collins stage announcement heralding Genesis’s “Spot the Pigeon” EP) racing up the Indonesian charts.
