Springer: I think I've watched this guy pitch about a dozen games this year. I'm pretty sure he's sucked in every one of them. Maybe I'm missing something?
We’ve been living on borrowed time for a while. But it’s so fitting that Springer (and an overworked Springer to boot) would be the one to get us behind.
It's obvious who should be DH-ing for us
RLangford - June 19, 2009
spacious...
Kallus - June 19, 2009

cityplANner - June 19, 2009
This game is so lame
that you can start a new thread in the middle of an inning with a man on base, and no one minds.
iglew - June 19, 2009
too true
Kallus - June 19, 2009
and the baseball gods punish Nico
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
That's not the baseball gods.
That’s just residual suckitude.
iglew - June 19, 2009
is he gonna be promoted to A's bench coach?
where he has to constantly say: “yes sir, Mr. Geren sir! An excellent decision! Rajai is an amazing player!”
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Actually, I started it between innings
It just takes Edgar Gonzalez a long time to run to first base.
Nico - June 19, 2009
In good news, slegnA, Rangers and M's are all losing
small victories!
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
It would be a great time for a W.
JJ Martin - June 19, 2009
our pitcher has half of our hits
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
this season.
Nico - June 19, 2009
New Thread brings DP #6
since the 1st inning last night.
Bookended by Kurt
Yes, Good to see the slegnA give up 3 bombs so far. I should say 1/25th of the slegnA roster in Joe Saunders
Trainman - June 19, 2009
billingsley is moving down the slegnA

ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009

cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
yeah, but that Eddie Haskell will screw it all up
Kallus - June 19, 2009
That was a wonderful 1-2-3 inning, Mrs. Cleaver
Nick - June 19, 2009
Wow, whaddaya know?
Rajai non-fail.
iglew - June 19, 2009
The good news is that Rajai caught it!
The great news is that he might have injured himself!!
Nico - June 19, 2009
LOL
if only we were so lucky
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
Braden's gonna have trouble taping up a #11 on that chain-link out there
Nick - June 19, 2009
Good play by Davis
Saving the meatball that Gonzalez served up.
Trainman - June 19, 2009
Rajai, I know you feel bad about missing that ball,
but hurting yourself isn’t going to solve anything other than giving me some serious schadenfruede.
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
fantastic!
drmmerchk - June 19, 2009
Edgar Gonzalez Jr.
He should seriously consider a career as an OF as opposed to a pitcher. He’d probably be better that way.
Blicks - June 19, 2009
Hopefully
this is his last inning because he’s not fooling anyone
But then we have our vaunted BP so I guess it doesn’t matter who pitches
Last out please!!
Trainman - June 19, 2009
Poor Jack Cust
He can’t be comfortable out there.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
Kennedy sure is no Ellis out there defensively
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
If it weren't for his bat, I'd say yank E. Gonazlez

cityplANner - June 19, 2009
I was just going to say that
LaRussa does that quite a bit
Trainman - June 19, 2009
good effort i guess
drmmerchk - June 19, 2009
I think I've finally pinpointed Edgar Gonzalez' main problem: He sucks.
Nico - June 19, 2009
You are quite an analyst
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
the question is which one
or which sucks more
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
Definitely Edgar
iglew - June 19, 2009
Why is Outman not in there?
Did he get injured or something?
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
yes.
Looks like an injury, but no official word yet that I’ve heard.
iglew - June 19, 2009
Fosse said "forearm tightness"
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
not to get technical sounding
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Yup. Elbow tightness or something.

BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
I went to the A's/Giants game on Friday.

jdub69 - June 19, 2009
Yeah I've seen two games at that park
Its fancy and all but I’ll take the gritty homeyness of the Coli anytime!
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009

jdub69 - June 19, 2009
lets! go! oakland!
drmmerchk - June 19, 2009
It sounds like they are chanting that
does every team have the same rally cry?
I liked it better when we said..
“Let’s Go a’s”!
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
I do miss our unique chants
The 3-beat “let’s go a’s”
the marco x-x- scutaro xxxx- chant
there was even a Dan Johnson chant.
yeah. Dan. Johnson.
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
And the classic "WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH ____?" "HE'S A BUM!"
Nick - June 19, 2009
yep
67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009
I always associated that cheer with the Giants
and it made me think less of them.
That, and the stoopid whoooOOOP…..WWHOOOoooop when a pitcher is warming up in the bullpen. That might be my top pet peeve in baseball
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
The wave.

67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009
That too.
I should really quit playing because I’m such a competitive asshole, but I can’t stop because I’m such a competitive asshole.
mikev - June 19, 2009
You're doing Makers Mark too?
That’s what I’m using to wash out the taste of those Cheez-Its and Doritos.

ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
Sweet?
I hadn’t ever really thought of it that way.
Well the only fair thing is to buy some of both and do some serious taste testing. In the interests of science.
Faust - June 19, 2009
Compared to MM, yes
mikev - June 19, 2009
LF bleachers at the Coliseum were doing that in the early 80s, if not before
It woulda been pretty hard to do that at Candlestick back then — none of the seats in the OF were that close to the players.
Nick - June 19, 2009
It was before.
67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009
Crosby?
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Is that the same tune as the old Ivy League chant?
I heard it from a good friend of my mother’s, who went to Yale in the 1950s: “What’s the color of horseshit? Brown, Brown, Brown.”
When I was about 11 years old I thought that was really really funny.
iglew - June 19, 2009
that's funny at any age, iglew
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Sounds like it would scan the same way
They key with the HE’S A BUM! chant is to repeat it nonstop for a few innings. It’s like a koan.
Nick - June 19, 2009
Do you remember?
Hey Gorman, do you know what you are? You’re 0-for-4! Zero! Zero! Zero! ZEROOOOOO!
67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009
I remember Gorman Thomas, but I don't remember that one
I used to sit in RF until about 84 or 85, so I might have been too far away to hear it back when Thomas was still with the Brewers.
Nick - June 19, 2009
They called him Pizza Face.
I don’t think he liked it.
67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009
Kids are mean.
I played baseball with this really short, smelly, pizza-faced kid and one of our pitchers called him “Sheetsofpizzaironmangleeza”
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
Was anyone at the baltimore game back in the day

I think Rajai made a play defensively, too.
Sadly, that’s more memorable than the ones where he fails.

it’s sad to see the decline of a great hitter
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
especially when he plays for your team
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
Yep
That’s even worse
Trainman - June 19, 2009
The worst part is feeling vindicated because you were adamantly against bringing him back at all.
mikev - June 19, 2009
Giambi shoulda taken that pitch out of the park instead of popping it up
I mean: hanging breaking ball
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
even two years ago he would have
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
C'mon, Cabrera. Just keep the inning alive, and maybe we can get Gonzalez up this inning

67MARQUEZ - June 19, 2009

1. I coached a team.
2. The season ended.
3. As part of saying “thanks” the team bought me a Fathers Day 6 pack of games. One of them is 6/27.

cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
O-cabs barehanded the dropped ball and swung his hand up into Gwynn's junk as he dives to get back to 2B
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
From a differnt angle I'm still not sure now?
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
Team still sucks.
mikev - June 19, 2009
wow. whiff on that tag.
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Woah, O-cabs smacks him in the nuts with the ball in his hand
Yeah, Gwynn, I’d be limping back to the dugout too
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
he got him....like a magician
very quick but reply convinces me
ak_A - June 19, 2009
I don't hate this move.
Nico - June 19, 2009
you are not a hater
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
let's get two here
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
Till Springer walks in a run.
mikev - June 19, 2009
SD screwed royally on that one
We will take it
Even though Springer has more to deal with coming up
Trainman - June 19, 2009
but geren is putting in Springer to make up for it
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Hey an MLBN look in.
Just in time to see us blow the game
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
hullo.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
you could tell we were talking about you, couldn't you?
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
yes.
my spidey senses were tingling.
of course, I was arrested for that once.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
how's mom?
Kallus - June 19, 2009
she's well.
We watched Bill Maher, saw the dog.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
He's pitching right now.
The dog, that is. Not Bill Maher.
iglew - June 19, 2009
woof.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
that's good. mom's are the best
my mom treats me great. during baseball season, she cooks my smack up extra strong
Kallus - June 19, 2009
the excitement is back
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
nevermind
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
woo.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
Hey baby.
mikev - June 19, 2009
'sup.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
chillin.
mikev - June 19, 2009
true.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
c'mon springer...damn
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Springer's doing his best to make you look bad, Nico
Are you gonna take that?
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
count is 3-0
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
Springer Sucks
Geriatric and three games in a row = FAIL
Trainman - June 19, 2009
fuck...predictable
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
you were such a kind lady when you first got here
and now you are fitting right in
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
thank you :))
this team drives me nuts
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
and how
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
Yes
It sure was.
Trainman - June 19, 2009
Crap
goldfish - June 19, 2009
Springer fails again!
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
looks like it's business as usual for springer
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
SpringFAIL
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
Just identified the problem
we picked up a bunch of NL’ers this offseason
and Giambi who is just past it. and O-Cab who isn’t just having a very good season.
blah
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
time for more rum
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Lamar Headley up to bat
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
3-run jack
i’m calling it
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Springer, 1. Kallus 0
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Springer: I think I've watched this guy pitch about a dozen games this year. I'm pretty sure he's sucked in every one of them. Maybe I'm missing something?
solotar - June 19, 2009
You're not
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
yes, you are missing something. Kiko Calero
Kallus - June 19, 2009
like me, I think you're missing victories
you know, the non-perpendicular letters
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
LOL @ Korach
A’s are risking serious BP burnout in second half.
Bit late Buddy, they are toasted already.
Trainman - June 19, 2009
I was thinking the same thing.
“Second” half?
iglew - June 19, 2009
playoffs?!
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
I wonder if they'll put us in the early game slot
where I have to call in sick?
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
he also said it's been a disheveled affair
i think that’s a good term for this season: disheveled
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
did you see where wuertz says he's 'physically drained'?
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Weurtz cowers in the corner and whimpers quietly every time the bullpen phone rings now
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
Has he been cavorting with vampires?
worldblee - June 19, 2009
O-Cab admitted fatique as well
Why can’t they all just man up like Holliday and Zook?
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Why can’t they all just
man up[not suck] like Holliday and Zook?iglew - June 19, 2009
the harsh reality of the situation is
that you are correct.
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
good news is it's only the 6th
bad news is that our best hitter this game was just pulled for springer
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
The Giants have a relief pitcher named "Merkin".
This is uproarious
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
iglew - June 19, 2009
isn't that a Soul Patch?
Or is that a Stinger?
I believe I’ve also hear the term “flavor saver”
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
that's a douche with some s**t in his facial hair.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
Things that aren't cool for $500, Alex
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
What is Bobby Crosby?
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
That's "Bones" to the lay person
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
it looks like shit no matter who's wearing it
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
( shaves soul patch )
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
sorry, ohtobe
i’m sure it looks swell on you!!!!
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
but what about Tim Hudson?
cmon, dude rocked it.
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Timmy's was a real stinger,
not a pink face-merkin.
iglew - June 19, 2009
timmeh's was ok
but he’s about the only one
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
he insipired me to wear one
but like him I smartened up.
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Yeah...what was he drinking
er um I mean thinking?
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
Have you no imagination?
An actual merkin would be NSFW. It’s a pictorial euphemism.
iglew - June 19, 2009
No...
but I’ll cast aspersions aside for the moment.
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
speeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Been listening in the car on the way home
We’ve been living on borrowed time for a while. But it’s so fitting that Springer (and an overworked Springer to boot) would be the one to get us behind.
worldblee - June 19, 2009
My feeling about the IBB to Gonzalez:
* If Springer throws the exact pitches he threw Headley, to Kouzmanoff, Geren looks like a
geniusnon idiot. My take: Good, gutty decision, bad outcome due to bad pitching.
Nico - June 19, 2009
my take: we're losing and I'm not nearly drunk enough
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
I'm a doctor.
Drink more.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
I'll drink to that
but lets face it, I’ll drink to pretty much everything.
BleedGreen - June 19, 2009
agrd
mikev - June 19, 2009
Wow, Nico is still taking the game seriously.
iglew - June 19, 2009
he's like that.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
Unlike the A's, I grind out every at bat.
Nico - June 19, 2009
agreed. walking gonzalez was the right call
but then i’m getting drunk.
Deborah51 - June 19, 2009
Due up in the top of the 7th are Crosby, Rajai, and Springer...
It hurts to consider the possibility that Springer might be the best hitter of the three…
kitoko - June 19, 2009
vince: "he just came off the 60-day DL"
Kallus: “we’re completely f*cked”
Kallus - June 19, 2009
Everth Cabrera was a Rule 5 pick?
WHY CAN’T THE A’S STOP DRAFTING GOLESKI AND COPELAND????
Nico - June 19, 2009
Their Cabrera > Our Cabrera.
mikev - June 19, 2009
When you spell it in caps, I think,
“¡GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!-eski”
iglew - June 19, 2009
we are.... ..... ....not good
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
... --- ...
SOS, for the non morse code folks
MobiusKlein - June 19, 2009
Oh, thanks for the translation, man.
Rated-R Superstar - June 19, 2009
sweeney..gah
ak_A - June 19, 2009
That Cabrera has a gun
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
Their Cabrera is good
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
and could have been Oakland's starting SS for the next 6 years?
Or did the Padres draft ahead of us this year? (I know Goleski was first pick overall.)
Nico - June 19, 2009
Thanks for making my evening even worse
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
And why are we using all the PH in the 7th?
MobiusKlein - June 19, 2009
especially with two outs
STUPID
ohtobe21likehuston - June 19, 2009
No pinch hitting spots in the 8th and 9th?
We won’t pinch hit for the 1-6
Nico - June 19, 2009
every inning is a shutdown inning for our opponents
cuppingmaster - June 19, 2009
Nomar mighta legged that out if he weren't doing an impression of a pogo stick
cityplANner - June 19, 2009
3 pieces of shit up...
3 pieces of shit down.
Fans, let’s hear it for your 2007/8/9 Oakland A’s!
kitoko - June 19, 2009
yay.
we’re good.
Leopold Bloom - June 19, 2009
laughs
jdub69 - June 19, 2009
I WANNA A NEW THREAD.
