I also watched Casey Blake when he played for Wichita State. Never thought he would be this good of a major-leaguer. Very consistent player and kind of reminds me of Joe Randa.
The A’s have time to see a replay and, if they’re worried, send Garciaparra to 2nd as soon as the new pitcher gets the ball. If he so much as fakes at Garciaparra, they can’t appeal to 3rd.
But for me, Cust’s act is so old. So much of what I’m sick of about the A’s: guys who can’t hit for average and who can’t field. And I love Jack Cust as a story and wish him all the luck in the world. I’d just rather be rooting for him on another team because I’m dead tired of rooting for guys who hit .230 and walk.
spacious...

Wheres the one with the springer saying I suck
pbra17 - June 18, 2009

Kallus - June 18, 2009
.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 18, 2009
GYMNASTICS!
Did I miss anything?
mikev - June 18, 2009
according to the primeticket speed gun
springer just unleashed one at 114 MPH…lol
cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
Wow! Sign that guy up!
iglew - June 18, 2009
suckiness
micdog2001 - June 18, 2009
O-Cab inside the park home run.
walkoff baltimore chop - June 18, 2009
Now THAT would be fun.
iglew - June 18, 2009
Nice 0-2 Cookie there
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
Too bad nobody blocked it.
el campysino - June 18, 2009
Springer=piece of shi*
kitoko - June 18, 2009
At least the pathetic O got Mazzaro off the hook before the bullpen coughed it up...
kitoko - June 18, 2009
Actually, that "O" was a HBP,
a bloop single, and a throw to the wrong base.
Nico - June 18, 2009
smallball, then
mikev - June 18, 2009
microscopeball
Nico - June 18, 2009

el campysino - June 18, 2009
Sweeney for Crosby, Barton for R. Davis, I say.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Trying to start something?
ElQuesoCapitan - June 18, 2009
Barton @ 3rd is quite bold, Nico
Kallus - June 18, 2009
DO IT.
mikev - June 18, 2009
Hannahan comes in to play 3rd if you're lucky enough to play the bottom of the 9th
Nico - June 18, 2009
luck aside, can Barton play 3rd?
Kallus - June 18, 2009
Yes.
mikev - June 18, 2009
Only in the way that Buck can play CF and Ellis can play SS: Theoretically.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Buck, yes, Ellis not so much
He’s incapable because of his injured shoulder.
mikev - June 18, 2009
Barton's incapable of playing 3B due to his injured suck.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Good point, Hannahan's suck is way better
Oh wait, no it’s not.
Time to fucking try SOMETHING. Is this team going to be any worse with the guy who was their #1 prospect at age 20 trying out third base? Nope.
mikev - June 18, 2009
Unless he hits like Hannahan and fields like crap
Nico - June 18, 2009
Tough to find that out when he's glued to the goddamn bench, Nico.
mikev - June 18, 2009
grab some superglue, meat!
Kallus - June 18, 2009

cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009

ak_A - June 18, 2009

Nico - June 18, 2009

ak_A - June 18, 2009
Come on, RyRy!
Englishmajor - June 18, 2009
Giambi, OCab, Crosby....sweet!
2 guys who can’t hit anymore and one who never could. This team is AWFUL.
kitoko - June 18, 2009
Return of Swooney!
iglew - June 18, 2009
woot!
brian.only - June 18, 2009
Cool....anybody but GIDP Crosby!
kitoko - June 18, 2009
GIDP sweeney instead
ak_A - June 18, 2009

brian.only - June 18, 2009

ak_A - June 18, 2009
How long has Barton been up?
I’ve been out of town.
brian.only - June 18, 2009

cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009

cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
fudge you randy newman
Kallus - June 18, 2009
Yeah whats better than GIDP Crosby? GIDP Sweeney apparently
Amnesiac - June 18, 2009
There is no joy in Swooneyville.
iglew - June 18, 2009
Didnt Crosby homer against Troncoso?
Amnesiac - June 18, 2009
Yes, but he would have batted against Belasario
Torre didn’t make the move until Sweeney was announced.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Oh, right on.
Amnesiac - June 18, 2009
the other night that is
Amnesiac - June 18, 2009
Dang. You'd think that just because a team hit into 4 DPs
and got picked off once, it wouldn’t stop them from winning the game.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Ryan Sweeney won't even be in the majors in two years
He doesn’t do much of anything well.
RLangford - June 18, 2009
Carlos Gonzalez HRed tonight.
Just thought I’d pick this random time to mention it.
Nico - June 18, 2009
you're meaner than i expected nico
Kallus - June 18, 2009
You wanted me to mention that Gonzalez came into today's game slugging .258?
Nico - June 18, 2009
guess he's not the doubles machine anymore
cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
yes, please
let the badness of the trade sink in slowly
Kallus - June 18, 2009
thanks
ak_A - June 18, 2009
I agree, he's so overrated...
… If he’s rated at all anyways.
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
he CAN
i just hope doesn’t turn into a 6’4" 220 omar vizquel
cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
too late
I don’t remember Omar being made out of glass though.
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
dude, you totally robbed Kinsler in that series...
and can i get a 1/2 pound of the roasted turkey?
Kallus - June 18, 2009
lol yeah
in a wrap with lowfat mayo
cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
Nice 0-2 Cookie there
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
This team is gonna contend for something? Really?
Maybe for the #1 pick in next year’s draft…
kitoko - June 18, 2009
YAY BRYCE HARPER
mikev - June 18, 2009
Did Ziggler get both loses against the dodgers/
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
He is easily the worst pitcher among people who have written on AN's front page.
Nico - June 18, 2009
ouch
joshers - June 18, 2009
Failure
ElQuesoCapitan - June 18, 2009
Oh well.
Englishmajor - June 18, 2009
We suck....booo!
Amnesiac - June 18, 2009
Time for an overhaul
RickeyIsTheGreatest - June 18, 2009
Guys I'd love to get rid of
Cabrera, Sweeney, Cust, Giambi, Springer, Casilla.
I can’t watch those guys anymore. I know exactly what they are and I’m sick of rooting for them.
RLangford - June 18, 2009
Hannahan, Crosby, etc.
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
Basically, players with vowels?
Nico - June 18, 2009
bassically =)
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
I'll keep Cust, thank you very much, and dump the rest.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Yeah, I like Cust.
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
dude, you totally mis-spelled "crosby". It's c-r-o-s-b-y, not c-u-s-t !!
Kallus - June 18, 2009
reply fail
Kallus - June 18, 2009
haha
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
Nico
You’ve always been down on Sweeney, I know.
RLangford - June 18, 2009
I'd rather root for him over 80 percent of the team.
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
You'd rather be rooting for guys who hit .220 and DON'T walk?
mikev - June 18, 2009
I like Cust. As a DH. Surrounded by guys who can hit .290.
Nico - June 18, 2009
Interesting.
I like what you have to say. Perhaps you have a brochure or newsletter I may subscribe to?
mikev - June 18, 2009
2009 A's=Petrified dog turd...
In a way I’m glad my wife made us move to Florida—at least I don’t have to endure this tragi-comic farce in person anymore…
kitoko - June 18, 2009
I'm so fucking sick of hearing people say "Jason Giambi is struggling"
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
How about "Jason Giambi is struggle"?
Nico - June 18, 2009
How 'bout "Jason Giambi is finished"?
RickeyIsTheGreatest - June 18, 2009
ding ding ding Winner!
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
would you prefer over-the-hill?
cuppingmaster - June 18, 2009
I was thinking "Jason Giambi is Done"
Sad to say, I love the dude… but I think it’s time.
=\
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
How about "Jason Giambi is a place-holder"
RLangford - June 18, 2009
How about "Just bring the replacement up, how much worse can we be"
cyke17 - June 18, 2009
How about "Jason Giambi wold like to publicly thank BALCO for their invaluable contribution...
…that resulted in a $120 mil contract from the Yanks…
kitoko - June 18, 2009
