Well, things being what they are, I suppose we should feel okay about losing early this season
Makes us confirmed sellers in the next couple months and we have some aging pieces that are potentially worth something that we can get some value out of.
Our pitching staff is young, and will take its lumps this season. We all thought 2010 was more realistic for being competitive. Unfortunately, we traded away CarGo, but….some of the other pieces we have are really, really good.
There’s a lot of reason to be positive about the future. We’ve got one hell of a young pitching staff. Now, if we just a left side of the infield… then we’d be golden.
Crosby or Cust, who busted their asses to get to the pop-up that fell? Holliday, who was on his way to getting tossed for being called out on that pickoff? Zook, who’s playing hurt? Nomar, who’s rehabbed his calf 2 or 3 times already with the A’s?
What is he supposed to do? Hold a team meeting? Oh, wait, exactly one player on the A’s has done that this year — Cabrera, whom you’ve mentioned as not caring because he’s only here for a year.
The team cares plenty. They’re just not very good at playing baseball.
then explain how they would make this team better, and then explain why the various guys you think can’t do this aren’t doing it.
Incidentally, all of the vets Beane signed were mentioned as leaders when they were signed. Springer helped Braden learn the cutter he’s been throwing so well this year. Is that leadership? How could he be exercising leadership if he’s not here beyond this year? And if he is leading, why is the team so crappy? Folks were talking about Giambi as a leader last week during the winning streak.
99% of the situations in which people discuss intangibles, good and bad, they’re just giving non-explanatory explanations. AK’s leadership inspired the A’s comeback the other day! But the A’s lost, so now there’s no leadership!
well, I just want better players to support the pitching staff.
this offense just puts me to sleep every night and it irritates the living piss out of me to watch really good pitching wasted by in competence in the field and basically no run support. why not go out and get a few more bats while the division is still there for the taking?
Oh sure, they teased a bit by getting Holliday & Co. but c’mon, did you really think they knew the Angels would lose their entire SP staff for the first 2 months?
The A’s are about a .440 team. That’s what they really are. It’s not an illusion, and it’s not a fluke. No amount of dirt-kicking or post-game spread flipping by the manager, no amount of batting-helmet bouncing by the hitters, is going to change that.
Plenty of terrible teams have had managers who scream and kick dirt.
I hate playing in NL parks. We are so in need of Swoony. Cust looks lost in right. On that one play, it was so his ball to catch which Crosby messed. up. And when Cabrera got on in the Seventh or Eighth, why didn’t Geren send him? I swear, Geren seems to mail it in a lot. When is Ryan coming back, anyway? Great start by Outman, though. This team will be very special and win 2 or 3 World Series within the next 5 years, we just have to be patient. Let’s avoid a sweep tomorrow, boys! And who knows, the Rockies have won ten straight, why not us? Go A’s!
*crying*

Makes us confirmed sellers in the next couple months and we have some aging pieces that are potentially worth something that we can get some value out of.
Our pitching staff is young, and will take its lumps this season. We all thought 2010 was more realistic for being competitive. Unfortunately, we traded away CarGo, but….some of the other pieces we have are really, really good.

That would be O-Cab and...Giambi?
Remember the winning streak? When Cabrera was leading off every game with a single or double and everyone loved him? Do you think he was emotional for those 7 games, and then became blasé for some reason?
They give a shit because they’re baseball players, they like playing well and they don’t like losing.

You think Holliday could be a leader right now? He thinks he’s gone… how can he even think about being a leader on this team?
O-Cab is only on this team cause he has to be, sure he called a team meeting… but that’s only 1 step to leading this team.
Giambi has his own problems.

Give me examples of things team leaders do

Back in reality are we not?
’Twas fun, Mazzaro world.

So who forgot this is a rebuilding year with the added fun of not losing 100 games?
Golly, the wailing around here amazes me.

Our Owner and beane forgot it was a rebuilding year it seems
cyke17 - June 13, 2009
Oh sure, they teased a bit by getting Holliday & Co. but c’mon, did you really think they knew the Angels would lose their entire SP staff for the first 2 months?
BoyHowdee - June 13, 2009
The Angels have nothing really to do with it... Our entire division is ahead of us.
cyke17 - June 13, 2009
Oh, I’m concerned like you wouldn’t believe that the Mariners and Rangers are ahead of us in June. Damn that rattles me.
The team was built in Janurary or so. When the Angels still had a 5-man SP corps.

+ a very big number
The A’s are about a .440 team. That’s what they really are. It’s not an illusion, and it’s not a fluke. No amount of dirt-kicking or post-game spread flipping by the manager, no amount of batting-helmet bouncing by the hitters, is going to change that.
Plenty of terrible teams have had managers who scream and kick dirt.

Frustrating loss.
Go A’s!
