At least the A's didn't make their faithful (ha) suffer past nine innings tonight.
Brett Anderson is still searching for his first Major League victory, but he'd probably settle for a finger that didn't hurt when he pitches, and the Angels inflicted a different kind of pain in a 5-2 win.
Are we sensing a theme here folks? Suffer, hurt, pain. Yeah.
The A's squandered a couple of early scoring chances against lefty Joe Saunders, who continued his quiet dominance over Oakland. Jack Cust K'd to end the bottom of the first, stranding two. The slugger got a jump on Cinco de Mayo by striking out four times, thus earning himself a rather large golden Mexican hat.
Bobby Crosby led off the second with a double, and liked the middle of the diamond so much he stayed there until the end of the inning.
The Angels got to Anderson for three in the third. Chone Figgins started things off with a one-out bunt single. Anderson had Figgins picked off on an attempted steal, but Jason Giambi had to reach for the throw, enabling Figgins to swipe second without a play. A walk and an infield single by Bobby Abreu loaded the bases. Crosby saved a run with a diving stop at third on Abreu's ball, but that only prolonged the agony as Torii Hunter jumped on Anderson's first pitch with a base hit to center to make it 2-0, and Napoli followed with an RBI-knock to make it 3-0. Anderson escaped further damage by inducing Howie Kendrick to hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
Saunders retired eight straight before Crosby got to him again, this time with a two out single in the forth.
Torii Hunter, first-pitch swinging once more, pushed a two-out single past a diving Crosby to plate Figgins who led off the fifth with a base hit and went to second on a sacrifice. Napoli followed with a booming double to center, his second two-bagger of the night to score Hunter from first to make it 5-love.
Anderson left after that, with his blistered finger still bothering him. Sean Gallagher relieved, and held the Angels scoreless through 3.2 innings of 3-hit ball. He struck out three and walked none.
The A's finally got on the board in the sixth. Travis Buck came up with the bags juiced and two outs, and had a nice at-bat in which he pointed out a balk by Saunders that scored Cabrera. Travis wasn't nearly as stellar with the lumber as he flew out to right to end the threat.
Kurt Suzuki fouled a pitch off of his foot, got up, and homered to left with two out in the seventh, sending Saunders to the showers. He then threw out Napoli trying to steal second in the eighth. Tomorrow all A's hitters will work on fouling pitches off various body parts.
With Saunders (6-2/3 IP, 6H, 2R, 1 BB, 7K) out of the game, the A's hoped to cash in against the Angels' bullpen, sporting the league's worst ERA coming in. Instead Jose Arredondo and Brian Fuentes retired seven straight A's, striking out four.
Outplayed, outclassed, and out of excuses.

Least interesting team ever
Dull, lifeless, and worst of all, completely identity-less.
I don’t even know what this is and where it’s headed. I can’t even see a future right now.
I’ll be happy when the picture clears a bit more.

Papelbon trying to choke
Yankees down 2 with bases loaded and two outs.
Trainman - May 4, 2009
And Boston wins
Trainman - May 4, 2009
Different from last year?
Right now it feels a lot like last July, August and September.
Since when did a starting pitcher getting more than 15 outs feel like an accomplishment?
Tres embarrasing.
geogrman - May 4, 2009
positives from tonight's game
Gallagher
Crosby
Suzuki
it only lasted nine innings
I have tickets for tomorrow’s game, and the giveaway blanket has a nice design
OaklandSi - May 4, 2009
Gallagher pitched very well
Back to rotation next time out I would think
Trainman - May 4, 2009
61 pitches tonight
What is that good for 80-85 next time max?
Trainman - May 4, 2009
back to the rotating door is more like it
javaball - May 4, 2009
Amen to that
and boot Evelands sorry gargantuan ass back to AAA.
RMac - May 4, 2009
Lakers in fail mode as well
Trainman - May 4, 2009
I'm surprised

This Loss...
was the Most Expected Loss I can remember in a long, long time. It really doesn’t hurt at all. I am numb.
Go A’s (tomorrow)!!!
Colorado Fan - May 4, 2009
Totally a "meh" game.
Just.. meh.
mikev - May 4, 2009
Worst in a bad division
And to think I was excited to watch this team preseason. I hope it turns around because it looks like he have nothing together today or the last few days.
oaklandSMASH - May 4, 2009
To me that was much more disappointing than yesterday.
I think all the cheering for the balked in run did it.

ZigFan31 - May 4, 2009

mikev - May 4, 2009
I've had blisters from pitching before
The only thing you have to do is give it some time. If the A’s trot him out there after four days they better be damned sure his finger is completely fine. If it’s not, skip his start. There’s no excuse for letting a blister cost you a game.
NateHST - May 4, 2009
Yep.
mikev - May 4, 2009
would it be overkill to DL him?
I realize he’d miss at least 2 and maybe 3 starts…but that would give the blister a chance to heal. If it doesnt look all better before Saturday (his next start), they might be better off to DL him retroactive to tomorrow, and call up Gio (who is stretched out and could start on Saturday).
OaklandSi - May 4, 2009
No, just give a spot start to somebody.
Outman or Gallagher or Gio or Giese.
NateHST - May 4, 2009
to give Gio a spot start he'd need to be called up
which means they’d need to open a spot up in the 25 man roster. If Anderson will not miss more than one more start, then I can see not DFAing him…
OaklandSi - May 4, 2009
Gio should start in 5 days for Sac
then 5 days later for Oakland.
Somebody should be hurt by then.
mikev - May 4, 2009
Holy shit.
Anybody see that Rick Ankiel play in CF?
OUCH
mikev - May 4, 2009
Not yet, but I saw the Rockets beat the Lakers!
Come on, Houston!
Rated-R Superstar - May 4, 2009
Eleven strickouts by the A's
going fast to the unwatchable this year.
Holliday…..even Crosby may pass him in BA, if he hasn’t in OBP already.
One won lost won - May 4, 2009
he passed him in OPS today.
and OBP.
Not quite BA yet, I think
jasonthea - May 4, 2009
That should never happen.
Anyway, here’s some trivia since I can’t sleep. A pitcher once threw a no-hitter, and his opponent’s team average stayed the same. How?
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
First game of the season

I'm watching tonight's HIMYM.
And it’s hi-larious. Everyone needs to watch it and laugh to alleviate the pain from today’s game.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
What are you talking about?
RLangford - May 4, 2009
How I Met Your Mother.
thanks me later.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Hey Pam
Glad you liked my “new thread” links. Had to keep myself entertained somehow, and it sure beats the same old thing.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
They were kind of under the radar though.
some people were kind of lost
vvvvvvv
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
:waves:
mikev - May 4, 2009
Yeah I did catch that later.
I guess I’ll have to be more creative.
Gonna to the game tomorrow? It’s been ages for me, and I’m thinking about it. Heard something about a blanket. Not that I go to games for souvenirs. I have enough A’s stuff at home.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I will be there.
No ticket yet, just gonna grab one after work.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Same here...if I go.
Bleachers, I imagine.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
What time is the game? 7?
maybe I’ll go at 6:45 or so and get Diamond Level seats.
They’ll probably still be available
mikev - May 4, 2009
Same as tonight.
And you’re right.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Me too - look out for me.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Oh, we do.
mikev - May 4, 2009

pam5981 - May 4, 2009

pam5981 - May 4, 2009

Would be SO nice just to decide to go to a game.
Ask me again in July, though ;-)
baseballgirl - May 5, 2009
Are you gonna live in Oakland come July?
pam5981 - May 5, 2009
No, I'll hate the A's by then, at this rate! ;-)
baseballgirl - May 5, 2009
It is pretty awesome.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
Can I make a suggestion? {ducks}
Need a game recap link in the last thread. I was left behind there.
ZigFan31 - May 4, 2009
Oh shit.
Did I not do that? It’s been forever since I’ve done a thread, Zig. So yeah. I’ll be sure to do it next time.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
FAILBOAT.
mikev - May 4, 2009
It's been a banner week, mike
DLD’s on the front page, no recap on the last thread. I’m hoping Nico gives me another start.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
No worries. I think Nico forgot the game recap link last night too.
ZigFan31 - May 4, 2009
This wasn't the first time I was left behind.
ZigFan31 - May 4, 2009
So was I
At least we had each other.
mikev - May 4, 2009
Yeah, same goes for me.
But I rather enjoyed it.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Did you tell him? {ducks}
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Its been a rather outspoken day. Sorry. PMS. Or something.
ZigFan31 - May 4, 2009
No worries at all.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I don't think I've put them in any of mine
I just assumed people would be going back to the front page to wait for it.
Flashfire - May 4, 2009
You'll keep getting ran out there, no matter how badly you perform
Then eventually you’ll get sent to the DL.
mikev - May 4, 2009
what would that be for 67, finger cramping?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009

mikev - May 4, 2009

dtownmbrown - May 5, 2009

I don’t know.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
In a word
hell yes.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Pretty.
Just to make a future mental note, how’d Anderson, Gallagher, and Blevins look out there?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
Ok then bad, pretty good, and pretty good
mikev - May 4, 2009
Neat.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
What mike said
and eloquently, I might add.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009

ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009

67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Inhaling mexican food.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
Can't argue with that.
Ever.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
good Mexican food?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009

ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
I dont believe that headline would be Yahoo!â„¢ certified.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Awesome.
And you’re right.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
How you can write a game summary
and omit the fact that Matt (On) Holliday went 0-4 and twice failed with two men on base. I think he has left something like 13 runners on base the last two games alone. Rocky Mountain Low.
jasonthea - May 4, 2009
Good point.
Should have been mentioned, jason.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
no problem
It’s getting redundant to comment about his failures, I guess
jasonthea - May 4, 2009
It is
but it’s still recap worthy. Sometimes I get caught trying to cover the basics so as to get a recap up quickly, so quickly in fact that I forgot to link it in the last thread. You can say I was trying to be too fine with it.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I thought the recap was excellent, FYI
and the intro was especially good…
ohmangoAs - May 4, 2009

67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I thought it was horrifc.
Your penmanship is atrocious and you dress in the manner of a male prostitute.

What??
My penmanship is not atrocious!
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009

(HAH!)
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Hmm.
Good point. Next Thursday with Eck. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll eat cheese with a spoon.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I gotta wait til NEXT Thursday?!
WTF, Don? Seriously, what the hell else do you have to do?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Get my hair done.
Like Eck’s.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
scary thought.

Why.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009

Future Ed - May 5, 2009
I appreciate your optimism.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
It's a sabotage
SFBAsportsfan - May 4, 2009
Back from the game.
It was freaking EMPTY there tonight. That was the smallest crowd I’ve ever seen at the Coliseum.
A few quick positives:
-it only rained for about 15 minutes
-Kurt homered!
-we got a balked-in run (which I didn’t see but that’s okay)
-Gallagher was great (cut your hair, dude)
-I won the Great Cap Caper for the 7432th time in a row. I should make them give me some Drumsticks.
…yeah, that’s all I got. My ’09 record is 1-4. Sigh.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
same here.
were there even 10K tonight?
thanks for the Red Sox, my 09’ record is 1-2
EllisFanatic - May 4, 2009
Box score says 10,397, but that seems a little generous.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
Yeah, that was my feeling
The place was really empty and there wasn’t a whole lot of enthusiasm. Boring boring game. Around the third inning we moved under the overhang to stay dry. That was the excitement of the evening, other than Suzuki’s homer. The only good thing about Cust’s strikeouts is that they were swinging. And it was nice to see not-Patterson out there at second base. Also Bobby Crosby is starting to look pretty good out there at third base. Maybe if he learned to hit, he could replace Chavez. (that’s a joke, well, sort of).
Gallagher looked good. Blevins got two outs but didn’t impress too much. Anderson was funny…he was okay except for those two stretches when he was really really awful.
Oh, also, small ball kept the A’s off balance tonight. The Angels do know how to bunt. They do everything well, and they DARE the other team to be perfect, which is how that baserunner was caught in the late innings. Suzuki made a perfect throw. I mean, they were up 5-1 at the time. Why not steal to get into scoring position?
The thing about statistical baseball, I’m finding is that (1) it’s boring, and (2) it doesn’t work anywhere near as well as it should.
richwol1 - May 4, 2009
well, when the opposition loads up on
good pitching and great hitting, small ball falls by the roadside.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Yeah, I meant to mention the "crowd"
Was going to say it was throwback night to the late 70’s with thousands of fans dressed as empty seats.
Yeah, probably better that I didn’t.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Yeah, the "crowd" was pretty quiet.
There were some “Let’s go Oakland” chants when we actually got some runners on, though, so that was nice.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
Agree on all counts, richwol1
Nico - May 5, 2009
Kurt's bomb was a just-got-it-out
or an “IT’S OUTTA THERE”?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
Looked like it was caught over the wall
But Rivera missed it
mikev - May 4, 2009
From what I could see,
it barely got over the wall and then bounced back onto the field. I haven’t seen a replay, though.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
I thought Rivera got it.
mikev - May 4, 2009
Yo tambien.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I took that for a while.
It gave me nosebleeds.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
You weren't doing it right.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
no, that's TOTALLY right
mikev - May 4, 2009
Then I was doing it wrong!
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Bingo.
mikev - May 4, 2009
I get that a lot.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
It seems to me, somewhere around 2001-2002,
those great hat capers got a lot easier. I’d like to blame the drugs, but I stopped them in ’94, so…
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I started going to games in '02,
and for the first year or two they were relatively difficult. Then for a year or so they were super-easy, and now they’re about medium difficulty, I’d say (but easy for me, of course).
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
so maybe I was off by a year or two there...
but they have radically shifted in difficulty over the last eight years though ,right?
I’m not insane?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
They've gotten insanely easy over the years.
And speaking of insane, you still are.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Yeah but I'm not a schizo.
and neither am I.
mikev - May 4, 2009
yes, you are.
no he’s not.
Shut up,. both of you. I’m trying to come up with a plan to get us out of here.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Gaijin_Suketto - May 4, 2009
Yeah, they've definitely gotten easier. It's sad.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
It makes my nephews happy though.
And I’m guesing that was part of the point. Since, you know, the stadium is just full of 3-year olds.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
they turn the place into daycare?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
How is that
your recap is better than mine? Other than the fact that you are awesome. I’m 0-2 this season, so at least you’ve heard that song once. And I thought I was the only one to keep track of that stuff.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I was 7-2 in 07 (both losses were against the Mariners…)
3-7 in 08
100% in 06!

EllisFanatic - May 4, 2009

67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009

Well, if it is, it’s because I didn’t actually talk about what happened in the game…

I’m so there, Cap’n. Just let me get my combat shotgun.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Crimbies.
Civil Zombies.
I’m having tea with them, then they’ve allowed me to shoot them at the stroke of midnight.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
How proper of them.
Give them a salute from me, then.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I'll include you in the list of comrades I read to them
before they blow their brains (or lack therof) out.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
I'm looking through you.
What did you know?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I rather enjoy that song.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
It's kind of a downer, no?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
The best songs are.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
That is insanely true.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
nah.
Walking on Sunshine.
Stand.
When I’m 64.
Lots of good, good songs are happy. That’s a myth.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
When I'm 64.
Rawr.
My godson- he’s 2- sings Beatles songs. It’s, well, awesome.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
yup, and it's fucking happy.
Even the melancholy ones—American Pie—there’s a quality of happiness to them.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Dude
Are you me? Seriously.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
yup. I am.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Kinda.
So it fits then, no?
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
Yes. with the comfort of a boxer
yet the spport of a brief
mikev - May 4, 2009
brief...
wow that one took me a minute
RMac - May 4, 2009
Ya
but thats a first for me… interview the visiting team after the game… you really that hard up for air time there jaymie syre?
RMac - May 4, 2009
She's a foam peanut....
…nothing but filler…
Gaijin_Suketto - May 4, 2009
They're filled with something, though, right?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I believe it's called saline.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
saline's expensive...
they use nacho cheese, man!
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
When I read this, it reminded me of Jaymee Sire.
from the strangely addictive http://www.textsfromlastnight.com/
iglew - May 5, 2009
+chuckled
ElQuesoCapitan - May 5, 2009
*Fell over
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
that's an awesome site.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
It perfectly captures the ambivalence I feel
whenever I see these threads where the boys drool over Jaymee.
On the one hand I totally understand because she really is very very cute.
On the other hand, if I ever were to get her alone in a room, I don’t think I’d want to do anything more than muss her hair and say, “Who’s a little cutey-pie? Huh wuzza wuzza wuzza. Huh wuzza wuzza wuzza”
She’s such a bitty little thing, too.
iglew - May 5, 2009
oh, you guys are cracking me up tonight.
pam5981 - May 5, 2009
.........
(678): why did i wake up with a kid named Raphael in my bed this morning?
(770): I dont know but you did call last night to tell me you found the last ninja turtle
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
My favorite
Maybe that’s an old joke, but I’d never heard it before.
iglew - May 5, 2009
I'm really happy that site appears to be fairly new
and I’m well past my drunk-texting phase.
pam5981 - May 5, 2009
favor
Hey Pam, can you put iglew and LB to bed, preferably not in the same one, and hit the lights before you turn in? I have to get up early in the morning. Appreciate it. I’ll get you next time.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
wuss.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
I've been in bed all along.
Laptop, yknow. It’s actually on my lap. (Is it still a lap if you’re lying down?)
iglew - May 5, 2009
I'm glad I'm too old to have a drunk texting phase.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
I'm too old to text at all.
Gosh dang new-fangled technology.
Telephones are fer talkin, and computers are fer typin.
iglew - May 5, 2009
Anybody ever seen that very 80's movie, with Jeff Goldblum,
called Into the Night?
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Is that the one where he dances with the dinosaurs?
whats it called? oh ya “Billy and the Clonosaurus”
RMac - May 4, 2009
It took a while, but I found it
the first game I went to… 1981 home opener against the Mariners
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/OAK/OAK198104170.shtml
SFBAsportsfan - May 4, 2009
Well
That’s pretty much the greatest regular season game in Oakland A’s history. I was there. Magical.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
You've been to every home game since they opened the damn place.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Not all of them.
But I know that one tops them all, for sheer lunacy.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I was almost 10
SFBAsportsfan - May 4, 2009
Did you notice
Dave Henderson was a rookie for the Mariners in that game and scored the only run for Seattle… solo home run
SFBAsportsfan - May 4, 2009
Yep.
Remember that very well.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
I never realized that part of it...
pretty cool
SFBAsportsfan - May 4, 2009
Ol' Shooty Babitt was on fire...
batting .346 through the first nine.
I’ve always wondered why his career was so short…
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
Because he was making fun of a drunk Billy Martin
before the game one day, and Jackie Moore ratted him out. As soon as Billy found out about it … buh bye.
Vacafan - May 5, 2009
and as much as I venerate Billy Martin,
it was a huge flaw of his that he would do stupid shit like that…
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
and by the way,
“Jackie Moore” is a cussword in my house…
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
As is proper.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
That he would stoop so low
as to let Shooty go?
Or let his players see him drunk?
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
I was there!
OaklandSi - May 5, 2009
I was 2!
No, literally. I was 2 years old.
mikev - May 5, 2009
Most impressive stat from that game for me...
Attendance: 50,255.
My, how times have changed. Of course back then we had names like Rickey, Murphy, Armas, Shooty, Picciolo, McCatty, and Billy (the Martin, not the Beane)
PortlandPachyderm - May 5, 2009
Ah, Rob Picciolo. 1,720 career plate appearances, 25 walks.
Nico - May 5, 2009
So now we know what's in a name. ;-)
PortlandPachyderm - May 5, 2009
Hey guys
We need a lookout. If one of the bosses comes in, I want them to think we’re talking baseball.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
is this like smoking in the boys room?
but without Vince Neil in makeup.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Great.
Now I got that song stuck in my head… Thanks

Waffles!
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
waffles just pancakes with little squares on 'em.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Panckaes
Waffles with the soul ripped out of them.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
don't get me wrong, Cap'n.
I’m pro-waffles. They have built-in syrup holders.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Good to hear that.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 5, 2009
Beauteous.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
smokin' in a smokin' in the boyz room kind of way
stm72 - May 5, 2009
Mini-rolling earthquake, 5 seconds ago?
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Did not feel.
But my dog knocked on the back door and asked to be let in. And she said it in Spanish.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
that's some sort of sign.
I think that means it’s kicked in.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
The door?
Or the dog?
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
the narcotics.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I think I have to go
…away for a long time.
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
umm... dude...
you’re already there…
You DO know you’re merely a figment of your own imagination, right?
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
I went to respond
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
not here.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009

pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Maybe it's a sign that Oakland will beat the Halos in to the earth
tomorrow.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
nah, it was only a 2.5
it was a mini-rollie earthquake.
pam5981 - May 4, 2009
Rollie Fingers?
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
His fingers shook the earth.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
I missed the game. Just read through the play-by-play recap online.
Sounds like it was boring, but ….
what the heck is this? From the top of the 3rd:
How the heck do you bunt to second??
Also
1. Anything wrong with Swooney, or they just decided to give him a day off?
2. Bummer that Greg-Oreo’s streak was ended.
3. Is it my imagination or is Bobby Crosby actually hitting decent lately?
iglew - May 4, 2009
Re: #1
Apparently his legs were sore after playing all 15 innings yesterday. Plus he’s played every game this season. So he got the night off.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
He's 24.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Yes he is.
whiteshoes40 - May 4, 2009
In one more year he can rent an SUV
RMac - May 4, 2009
we've played 23 games.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
Yes we have.
whiteshoes40 - May 5, 2009
You surely are agreeable at this early morning hour.
Feliz cinco de mayo a todos mis amigos de AN!
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
No hablo
mikev - May 5, 2009
Um.
Happy cinco de mayo to all of my friends at AN?
Either that or, rawr.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
I don't speak english, either.
mikev - May 5, 2009
Take 3.
Boobies.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
just like that Schwartzenegger movie....
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
I love you so much right now.
mikev - May 5, 2009
Ain't no W in Ess-pan-yole.
iglew - May 5, 2009
De nada,
y muchos camarones maricones por Usted….
that means, “and many homosexual shrimp to you too,” right?
Gaijin_Suketto - May 5, 2009
he plays center field.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Yes he does.
And right field.
And he’s pretty.
Wait, what were we talking about?
whiteshoes40 - May 5, 2009
that makes sense. thanks.
iglew - May 5, 2009
it's tougfh being 24 and playing CF, apparently.
Especially after playing 9 innings of a 15 inning game.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
as the mighty john kruk would say...i'm not an athlete, i'm a baseball player
these guys are in miseable shape. totally awful. they’re fat, they get hurt running in straight lines and jogging to the dug out. they don’t stretch properly. they’re basically good with eye hand coordination and that’s it. joke.
i blew out my mcl skiing at the age of 37 right before lunch and i skiied the rest of the day in pain.
these guys are pansies. all i had at risk was an $80 lift ticket at squaw.
stm72 - May 5, 2009
I agree, to a point.
Some of the guys are in pretty serious shape, some of them think round is a shape.
I’m almost 30, feel like I’m almost 50, and am expecting my hamstring to blow out any week playing soccer. I still do it and stretch properly and warm up and I’ve been good so far.
mikev - May 5, 2009
of course some are in serious shape...
but they’re not in soccer or basketball shape. they’re in baseball shape.
i understand why giambi’s hammies are about to blow…‘roids…errr. i understand why nomar has issues…genetics mostly…nice due diligence by the a’s front office there…errrr. plus they’re in the back half of their careers.
your last point is my point. if sweeney trips over first and sprains his ankle, fine. cust swings hard and tweaks his back, fine. but aches and pains are a shape/stretching injury. that’s not fine.
stm72 - May 5, 2009
Well...
1. Geren thinks that Raj is the best thing since a shiny new clipboard so he sat sweeney
2. Geren told petit not to get a hit cause he didnt want him to accidentally win the game
3. Bobby didnt listen to Geren despite strong coaxing from geren to swing hard on those low and outside pitches.
RMac - May 4, 2009
Job security?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 4, 2009
But is it security or just lack of options?
A'sfaninNC - May 5, 2009
I still wanna know how the heck you bunt to 2nd.
That Chone sure is gritty. I bet he could bunt to left field.
iglew - May 5, 2009
I have no memory of the alleged bunt to 2nd.
But I try to block out the bad things I see at the ballpark, so I don’t remember much from tonight…
whiteshoes40 - May 5, 2009
pretty simple actually
I think he did vs Anderson. So Figgins is batting right handed and he pushes a bunt past Anderson— not hard to do since Anderson is falling away toward third base after the delivery— and it goes to the second baseman. Since we never see that play around here it’s kinda hard to imagine.
jasonthea - May 5, 2009
Thanks.
Sounds like it would work against Eveland, too.
iglew - May 5, 2009
I have to be
at the office at 6:30 tomorrow morning. What are you guys doing to me??
67MARQUEZ - May 4, 2009
it's 3am here.
why can’t I sleep?
Have you seen my address book? It’s denim. Says ‘hang loose’ on it. Picture of a kitten.
Leopold Bloom - May 4, 2009
I need to come up
with the same reply for every reply that I have no reply for.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
I think that's where rawr comes in.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Well hell
Sometimes it’s right up in my face and I still can’t see it.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
…
mikev - May 5, 2009
Your comment makes my head hurt.
pam5981 - May 5, 2009
agrd.
let us never speak of it again.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Never?
How about Wednesday? Can we discuss it on Wednesday? In a whisper?
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
No, Don.
We can discuss it NEXT THURSDAY!
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Touche.
Although I am not quite sure what she has to do with it.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
EVERYTHING.
(there’s your other option—you can just be completely confusing right back at me)
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Urban torture
ElQuesoCapitan - May 5, 2009
what the what... it's 12:19?
Time for me to stop sleep-posting and start sleeping. Yeah, that would be good.
whiteshoes40 - May 5, 2009
Ditto.
Did I just write “ditto”???
Yep, time for me to go.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
no it's 3:21.
Leopold Bloom - May 5, 2009
Exactly.
You’re gonna be a mean man tomorrow.
And I’m not a wuss. I just to help Vince load a truck. Oh yeah we’re executives alright.
67MARQUEZ - May 5, 2009
