The A's couldn't hold the one run lead in the 9th; they couldn't hold the 3-run lead in the 13th; we go to the 15th, running on no pitching and no hitting.
Geren probably entered the day thinking it would be best to rest the bullpen. However circumstances have changed and he needs to re-evaluate. Is he going to rest the bullpen if it goes 17-18 innings? No.. so why do it now when we had a chance at a victory?
I understand your point but that plan may have worked for a 9-inning game.
who can throw 100 plus pitches I get what you are saying…but lets be honest Bailey was underwhelming yesterday when he threw…REally in my opinion the lack of availability of Ziegler is hurting
like they wanna use giese…He threw 3 innings friday right? maybe that is enough to hold him out a couple days…I dunno but with Eveland in the line is drawn that we dont wanna use the bullpen guys.
Although Kell owns the American League record for most at-bats in a game without a hit, he does not hold the major league record. On May 1, 1920, in a 26-inning marathon between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves, Braves’ second-baseman Charlie Pick went 0-11. The game, which ended in a 1-1 tie, was the longest game in baseball history.
Outman coulda went out for the 7th most likely…was pitching good and if you are trying to rest your pen why not send him out for the seventh at least to se what he has
The tops of these innings are like overtime playoff hockey on the penalty kill. I just want to curl up into the fetal position for the next two minutes until it’s over.
Beane assumes, rightly, that any idiot should be able to manage a baseball game. Unfortunately, in Geren he’s found a manager who goes out of his way to make horrible decisions.
bob geren set us up to lose……..
so what if dan geise is not avaiable he can be replaced…….
why leave some one in there has thrown more pitches than the starter………………….
Geren might be losing games, but it's Matt Holliday who's hurting the team the most
Believe it or not, this squad wouldn’t be winning that many more games without Geren. The team just isn’t that good and there are a dozen of players who should be blamed just as much as Geren, including Holliday.
The one saving grace of the season, it looks like, will be the haul the A’s get for Holliday. But add today’s 0-7 performance to the horrible start he’s gotten off to, and as of right now, you’re not getting much for his rental.
It’s only the first week of May, but the Holliday move has been total fail.
but geren is the manager he is the one setting us up to lose with the lame batting order,
wrong decisions during the game with pitchers
and bunting when the guy cant even bend his knees ( landon powell)
If he would have let Wuertz, or even Bailey pitch in the 9th or 13th the A’s win. He let Gio throw more pitches out of the pen than he would let a starter throw.
THANK YOU BBG.

thesteve9x - May 3, 2009
Tell me you have dial-up.
danmerqury - May 3, 2009
No, when you're downloading a torrent
it tends to take a little longer.
thesteve9x - May 3, 2009
Do you believe in miracles?
ZigFan31 - May 3, 2009
Does this mean you'll call me?
Oh.
67MARQUEZ - May 3, 2009
There goes that answer.
67MARQUEZ - May 3, 2009
Sure, if the A;s win this game.
ZigFan31 - May 3, 2009

Future Ed - May 3, 2009

tmac - May 3, 2009
THAT was the sorriest ass loss I've seen in a loooooooong time.
BERRYJO - May 3, 2009
That game was totally wack.
iglew - May 3, 2009
Rajah "defensive replacement" Davis
Didn’t want to be left off the FAIL train
Benjamin Light - May 3, 2009
8-7?
Haven’t we seen this movie before?
G’damn Geren!
chillicothe20 - May 3, 2009
????
How does a pop fly to shallow center fall in front of you when you are already playing in??????
Jason - May 3, 2009
Infielders playing way in.
And…Rajai’s slow? Apparently?
danmerqury - May 3, 2009

and then came in…Horrible read, he was slightly deep but it shoulda been caught
yawedout21 - May 3, 2009

brooklyn24 - May 3, 2009
This hurts.
I need to be held.
67MARQUEZ - May 3, 2009
Wow.
Just wow.
thesteve9x - May 3, 2009
Thanks, Bob and Billy!
ohtobe21likehuston - May 3, 2009
nice defense davis
Asfan4ever723 - May 3, 2009
Hilarious
Rajai actually drifted back on the ball … friggin hilarious.
Colorado Fan - May 3, 2009
This team as it is
Has no chance.
Billy Beane you are overfuckinghyped
Trainman - May 3, 2009
it ain't Billy
Beane assumes, rightly, that any idiot should be able to manage a baseball game. Unfortunately, in Geren he’s found a manager who goes out of his way to make horrible decisions.
Benjamin Light - May 3, 2009
that was just awful
Keze - May 3, 2009
Seriously
This is why ESPN ignores us. That was total crap…
tmac - May 3, 2009
Seriously? No.
pam5981 - May 3, 2009
Is there anyone who doesn't want to see Geren fired after this game?
Benjamin Light - May 3, 2009
yet again.......
bob geren set us up to lose……..
so what if dan geise is not avaiable he can be replaced…….
why leave some one in there has thrown more pitches than the starter………………….
Wreckonized - May 3, 2009
how many walkoffs?
toronto
yankees
2 times seattle
Asfan4ever723 - May 3, 2009
instead of walkoffs over the A's
its more like walk allover U’s
Wreckonized - May 3, 2009
I hate you Lew Wolff
jdub69 - May 3, 2009
Are we trying to lose?!?
This easily should have been a three game sweep.
tear
DaSwinginA's - May 3, 2009
The Seattle announcers called it:
“Will it be deep enough? Davis got a lousy jump on it! It’s over!”
Ugh, lousy jump indeed
RenoTy - May 3, 2009
eveland
tanked my fantasy team on my day off. wow.
apilgrim - May 3, 2009
At least you don't have Holliday.
danmerqury - May 3, 2009
Once again we snag defeat from the jaws of victory!!
wacchampions - May 3, 2009
The good news is...
Eveland probably won’t be starting on Wednesday.
skigurl - May 3, 2009
Maybe he won't start again - ever
BERRYJO - May 3, 2009
i think he will.
didn’t go long enough.
Jjjsixsix - May 3, 2009
that's it (good one)
That will be Geren’s ray of optimism!
jakebmill - May 3, 2009
Hopefully he sprains an ankle or something
Socalfan21 - May 3, 2009
We are such a sorry ass team...
Socalfan21 - May 3, 2009
now the articulate matt morrison is next
Asfan4ever723 - May 3, 2009
maybe this game sends Raj down and they can get another pitcher since all our others are dead
Keze - May 3, 2009
or maybe chris denorfia
can take his spot
Wreckonized - May 3, 2009
that way we can have him hit in the middle of the order every time we play an extra inning game
Wreckonized - May 3, 2009
yes.
or patterson. or whoever has the most options.
Jjjsixsix - May 3, 2009
Davis has no options
he will have to be released
Future Ed - May 3, 2009
The silver lining...
I think we now qualify for a government bailout.
tmac - May 3, 2009
Geren might be losing games, but it's Matt Holliday who's hurting the team the most
Believe it or not, this squad wouldn’t be winning that many more games without Geren.
ANti-dentite - May 3, 2009
yes
but geren is the manager he is the one setting us up to lose with the lame batting order,
wrong decisions during the game with pitchers
and bunting when the guy cant even bend his knees ( landon powell)
Wreckonized - May 3, 2009
Geren
How frustrating! Why in the world was Gio allowed to pitch the 13th? I really believe that Geren needs to be fired.
isclone - May 3, 2009
well, I can understand wanting to save the pen and just not using anyone else
but then why was Bailey suddenley warming up?
Keze - May 3, 2009
GAME RECAP IS UP
For whatever it’s worth.
Nico - May 3, 2009
FIRE GEREN
If he would have let Wuertz, or even Bailey pitch in the 9th or 13th the A’s win. He let Gio throw more pitches out of the pen than he would let a starter throw.
BIGa's - May 3, 2009
Amazing fact
Gio’s been up 1 day and throws more pitches than gallagher in 2 weeks.
