Bottom of the 4th, 4-2 Rangers, who lead by exactly how many runs Bob Geren has directly cost Oakland with managing that is better suited for the Special Olympics.
It’s time to gin up some incriminating photos of Ron Washington so that Texas has to fire him. Then we swoop in, hire him as manager, and then reveal the photos to be fakes so that his reputation is restored. Who’s with me?
That will be handled by evidence linking him to terrorists so that he gets extradited. Seriously, it’s easy to get innocent people sent to jail for years under the Patriot Act.
Wow, that sounds awful. Maybe I’m taking this too far.
As much as I would love to stay and vent, I have to close up the little Fairfield Keetsa store and drive back to OakTown. Peace out my comrades in arms.
What’s ironic is that Bob Geren will make more money in his lifetime than all of us put together. A very expensive puppet, that Bobby. To quote that Ed Wood movie, PULL THE STRINGS!
It improves our team while generating revenue. Instead of broadcasting games, the A’s broadcast a show called, “Athletics Idol”. At the end of every week, the player with the lowest batting average or highest ERA gets DFA’d unless he’s saved by fan voting.
Sure, the first week wouldn’t be very interesting as Rajai got booted (sorry, Rajai, I did like you but I won’t vote to keep you). A’s rating increase and we get rid of our underperforming players.
1) Because no one else plays CF well enough to back up; because no one else plays 3B well enough to back up; and because I’m already ruining Cahill and Anderson by bringing them up too soon and I don’t want to do that with any other young pitcher (and the non-young pitchers all suck just as much as E-Gon).
2) I don’t, I just extend the moron who is already there.
I would trade Santiago Casilla, Jack Hannahan, and Bob Geren to a Siberian team that doesn’t even exist yet for a bag of woodchips that used to be a bat…
This is good news because it’s significantly easier to leave Florida when living in Mom’s house than in my own house. But…I’m not sure I wanna do it. For obvious reasons.
seriously, as iglew wrote above, someone must’ve said something ot the powers that be about bringing these young guys with impressionable egos in for a spot start or spot eight relief innings and sending them right back down.
On another note, Michael Young has more home runs than anyone on the Oakland roster, and a total of six Rangers have as many or more as the current A’s leader; Jarrod Saltalamacchia has as many homers as Jack Cust. We are officially the Pittsburgh Pirates of the American League.
My inability to adhere to diet, coupled with my dead-end view of my current employment and place of residence AND the fruitlessness of the A’s makes me care little about proper spelling.
I saw it at a film festival, but I didn’t get it at all. Other people were laughing, but they were all well-dressed men, so I think maybe it’s a gay thing.
It played on a double bill with a campy 1960s lesbian vampire film, which was much more interesting.
They drew 30,742 the first year, and have managed to stay above 20K despite eight consecutive years of miserable suck (preceded by many other years of suck).
Geren decides to micro-manage by inserting LOOGY Breslow
You don’t ascend to a high position without making these crucial in-game decisions. Not to say inserting Breslow LAST GAME instead of Casilla would’ve been helpful…
Cust – replaced by Buck
Holliday – replaced by Cunningham
O Cab – replaced by Cliff Pennington
Raji – replaced by Denofia
Springer – replaced by someone who isn’t 40 years old
E Gone – Replaced by Vin, Gio, or Gallagher
Giambi – Doubt he gets moved at all, but if so or .200 AAA Barton
Beane – you fucked up buddy, its time to wave the flag and look to the future. Fire your bed buddy Geren, and make some moves the might move us forward in the years to come because there is NO chemistry with this team.
Followed by Hannahan and Davis. You know what I haven’t seen in a while? A pinch hitter for the A’s! You know why? Because Beane can give this team a bench with actual options.
I love how Travis Buck hits a homer on memorial day
and doesn’t get his next AB until Game 1 of today. He then proceeds to collect three hits with ANOTHER homerun and is promptly sent to the bench for Raj Davis for the entirety of Game 2.
Frustrated just doesn’t say it all my friends.
I love the A’s but I would not pay a fucking dime to go and watch them with the team as it is now.
I would rather pay to go and watch the slegnA lose
I keep saying it but by putting Crosby, Hannahan, Davis and pitchers like EGone and Eveland for way too long before he was sent down and added to that the fact that we have a complete idiot running the team, sends the fans a message that they either don’t give a flying fuck or they have no clue what they are doing. Seeing that this has gone on for way too long, I have to assume that it is a combination of both.
Time to blow up this team. Trade the stars but more importantly, get rid of the deadwood like Crosby, Hannahan, Davis, and please please fire the manager.
if his back is as bad as they’re saying, according to SF Chron’s Shea:
Cust lasted just one at-bat in game one before getting pulled with back spasms. Geren said it’s “worse” than the condition Cust had Wednesday, which forced him to miss that day’s game.
They are woefully short of healthy position players.
Whatever you do, don’t hide him on the bench for 9 days so that you can avoid DLing for 15 days. I don’t understand this team’s aversion to the DL this year.
You want the sports pack and MLB tv? no, I will call you when NCAA football starts.
go bears (minus my “favorite” interception-at-the-wrong-time-thrower this year)
6 runs in the first game and 5 in the second is not bad in the Ranger’s ballpark. The offense is just downright terrible. Tommy Hunter? Scott Feldman? Really?
Eveland might come back up
Gio – might come back up for a total of 6 hours before being sent down to AAA again
Raji Davis – might be named our new cleanup hitter
Bob Geren – signs new 10 year extension
Extending Geren's contract this offseason was a major mistake by Beane
I sincerely doubt that if he was allowed to manage through this season, that he would move on elsewhere. This is Bob Geren here. Not Joe Torre. Instead, you write off his last two seasons of poor performance due to injuries, blah, blah and you reward him with an extension.
Omar Vizquel is a Ranger now??
I love that guy.

Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
OK, here's another plan to turn the A's around
It improves our team while generating revenue. Instead of broadcasting games, the A’s broadcast a show called, “Athletics Idol”. At the end of every week, the player with the lowest batting average or highest ERA gets DFA’d unless he’s saved by fan voting.
Sure, the first week wouldn’t be very interesting as Rajai got booted (sorry, Rajai, I did like you but I won’t vote to keep you). A’s rating increase and we get rid of our underperforming players.

Dear Billy Beane: Legitimate questions
1) Why are Rajai Davis, Jack Hannahan, Edgar Gonzalez on the roster?
2) Why do you hire morons for managers year after year?
3) Do you like putting a crap product on the field?
Thanks in advance for the answers
Trainman - May 29, 2009
His answers
1) Because no one else plays CF well enough to back up; because no one else plays 3B well enough to back up; and because I’m already ruining Cahill and Anderson by bringing them up too soon and I don’t want to do that with any other young pitcher (and the non-young pitchers all suck just as much as E-Gon).
2) I don’t, I just extend the moron who is already there.

JJ Martin - May 29, 2009
It's like getting a statement from your bank that you're overdrawn
worldblee - May 29, 2009
I once dated a cartoon character that was overdrawn
Not fun.
Nico - May 29, 2009
insert snark here.
I’m too tired to come up with what appears to be an easy one…
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
[tugs collar]
DDroney - May 29, 2009
Jessica Rabbit?
Oh wait, she wasn’t bad, she was just drawn that way.
worldblee - May 29, 2009
Then again, that chick from Cool World was bad all the way through
but I didn’t mind

Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Senor Moustache on Sunday!
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Hey, at least Edgar did make it 5 innings
Better than 2, or 3, or 4…
worldblee - May 29, 2009
5 runs in 5 innings
oy vey
cityplANner - May 29, 2009
not bad for an emergency start.
seriously, as iglew wrote above, someone must’ve said something ot the powers that be about bringing these young guys with impressionable egos in for a spot start or spot eight relief innings and sending them right back down.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
true.
and I think that’s about all we could expect of him. Five runs?
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Not exactly the quality of innings I was hoping for.
JJ Martin - May 29, 2009
Edgar Gonzalez = Saarloos, DiNardo

OaklandInvader - May 29, 2009
3 innings left for the A's, 3 runs to score
who wants odds?
10:1?
cityplANner - May 29, 2009
nope.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Definitely not while Texas is still hitting this inning
worldblee - May 29, 2009
according to MLB Gamecast
With 3 innings remaining, the A’s have just a 10% chance of winning this game

My money's on two surprise Jack Hannahan grand slams
followed by a Bobby Crosby starting a quadruple play to end the bottom of the 8th and get one out in the 9th.
DDroney - May 29, 2009
Hey, since you're so confident
Can I interest you in some Credit Default Swaps?

That was too close for comfort.

I punched up a 10 minute clip from LAV! First song was REO Speedwagon. It’s like a bad early 80s radio!
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Hey let the air out of the moped tire is a decent pickup move
if you’re in high school and the girl happens to have a moped. She had some erasers at the school if I recall.
My best friend’s little kid rang my door bell for a visit with his grandma from KC. Brightened up the evening.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 29, 2009
better than this ugliness, certainly.
the girl ends up being a slut, right? and he’s all heartbroken because he’s fallen in love with her?

I was blown away by how much classic rock there was on it.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009

Today, tomorrow, the season. None of this “try to get over .500” crap.
pam5981 - May 29, 2009

gigglingone - May 29, 2009
by the way,
I’ve been guilty of bringing Zachary’s to young women myself.
It’s a good move. Worked well for me.

I'd ask for details, but I'm sensing I shouldn't ask.

JJ Martin - May 29, 2009
dude
if they ain’t getting rid of Rajai after Tampa, they ain’t getting rid of him.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Wash: How can we get Jennings some innings?
We can always run him out there against the A’s!
On another note, Michael Young has more home runs than anyone on the Oakland roster, and a total of six Rangers have as many or more as the current A’s leader; Jarrod Saltalamacchia has as many homers as Jack Cust. We are officially the Pittsburgh Pirates of the American League.

Dude, are you sure you're not drunk?
That’s not even the hardest one to spell.
iglew - May 29, 2009
I just don't care any more.
My inability to adhere to diet, coupled with my dead-end view of my current employment and place of residence AND the fruitlessness of the A’s makes me care little about proper spelling.

The best part is "Kids OK".
iglew - May 29, 2009
that is a good part!
I missed it the first time.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
A friend of mine wrote and produced a short film
about gay zombies.
I saw it at a film festival, but I didn’t get it at all. Other people were laughing, but they were all well-dressed men, so I think maybe it’s a gay thing.
It played on a double bill with a campy 1960s lesbian vampire film, which was much more interesting.
iglew - May 29, 2009
I wanna see.
Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009

Pirates 2008 per-game average: 20,113

See
There is proof that a new ballpark will bring in about 1500 more people than the old one!
ohtobe21likehuston - May 29, 2009
It opened in 2001.
They drew 30,742 the first year, and have managed to stay above 20K despite eight consecutive years of miserable suck (preceded by many other years of suck).
jeepers - May 29, 2009
I'm just thinking that the A's would only bring an additional 1500
I assume there are about 1500 going now. J/K.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 29, 2009
in fairness,
it is Pittsburgh. There ain’t a whole hell of a lot else to do. Pittsburgh is not the Bay Area.

Pittsburgh has better sports fans than the Bay area by an order of magnitude.

You don’t ascend to a high position without making these crucial in-game decisions. Not to say inserting Breslow LAST GAME instead of Casilla would’ve been helpful…

Leopold Bloom - May 29, 2009
Warren or Jimmy?
iglew - May 29, 2009
one would hope Jimmy.
Warren would be even more boring than getting swept for the doubleheader in Tejas.

But listening to Warren might make you better off.

Cust – replaced by Buck

O Cab – replaced by Cliff Pennington
Raji – replaced by Denofia

E Gone – Replaced by Vin, Gio, or Gallagher
Giambi – Doubt he gets moved at all, but if so or .200 AAA Barton

JJ Martin - May 29, 2009
Yes it is well over
Now get rid of the garbage.
Trainman - May 29, 2009
You are so right on.
Coach Cleats - May 29, 2009
10 games under .500, 10 games out of first...

No takers. Not sure I want to eat his salary—he can at least back up all 4 infield positions.

worldblee - May 29, 2009
I'm saying they should just do it quickly
if his back is as bad as they’re saying, according to SF Chron’s Shea:
They are woefully short of healthy position players.

thanks - man oh man what a season.

DL him then
Whatever you do, don’t hide him on the bench for 9 days so that you can avoid DLing for 15 days. I don’t understand this team’s aversion to the DL this year.

Billy Beane
Most overated person in all of sports.

You want the sports pack and MLB tv? no, I will call you when NCAA football starts.
go bears (minus my “favorite” interception-at-the-wrong-time-thrower this year)

I wouldn't cut Crosby
I would just keep punching him in face to boost club moral
ryanmoser - May 29, 2009
LOL
Trainman - May 29, 2009
What's sad is that the pitching did their part...
6 runs in the first game and 5 in the second is not bad in the Ranger’s ballpark. The offense is just downright terrible. Tommy Hunter? Scott Feldman? Really?
Coach Cleats - May 29, 2009
i was thinking the exact same thing
although casillas back to back jacks were pretty deflating
but the offense has to score more runs off those pitchers

If you do what you did, you'll get what you got. And that's what we got tonight.
JJ Martin - May 29, 2009
I could throw 5 shutout IPs vs the A's
With JIm Abbot’s stub (no offense Jim – sorry)
ryanmoser - May 29, 2009
What scares me is
Eveland might come back up
Gio – might come back up for a total of 6 hours before being sent down to AAA again
Raji Davis – might be named our new cleanup hitter
Bob Geren – signs new 10 year extension
ryanmoser - May 29, 2009
I will bet money they bring that Loseland back up
And you know what, I hope he gets fucking shelled and demoralized because that’s the only way we get a better team.
For the betterment of the team players like this need to fail and fail and fail
Trainman - May 29, 2009
Extending Geren's contract this offseason was a major mistake by Beane
I sincerely doubt that if he was allowed to manage through this season, that he would move on elsewhere. This is Bob Geren here. Not Joe Torre. Instead, you write off his last two seasons of poor performance due to injuries, blah, blah and you reward him with an extension.

Geren get a clue.......
I could run “backwards” to 1st base faster than Powell!!!!!! Please tell me why he isn’t on the DL!!!
granja - May 29, 2009
No one here can answer that question
