For 6 innings, it looked like same-old same-old. Lefty shuts A's down, a gritty effort by Dallas Braden wasted, A's leave 'em loaded a couple times, team can't string together a few wins.
Then came the bottom of the 7th when Jason Giambi, looking every bit as old as our forefathers, helped four score with a first pitch, two-run single that capped a comeback from down 3-0 to an A's 4-3 win.
The top of the 1st was odd, as with one out Dallas Braden tried to dive after a Yuniesky Betancourt chopper instead of just going over to cover first. Braden's hell-paving good intentions turned an out into an infield hit, which was followed by a Beltre single, a Mike Sweeney RBI double, and what should have been a two-run single by Russell Branyan. Trouble was, Sweeney's back locked up as he rounded 3rd, tripped over the bag, and hobbled back to 3rd where he perished (figuratively) on a DP ground ball that allowed Braden to escape the inning down only 2-0. Sweeney left the game soon after, forever a true Athletic.
Braden did not have his best location tonight, hanging a few changeups and playing pepper with the left field wall a bit too often for my weak heart, but he still turned in 7 solid innings with just 3 runs on his ledger. The third run came in the 7th on a leadoff double by Rob Johnson, who was sacrificed to third with one out. Ichiro was up, Betancourt on deck. What to do, what to do? Pitch to the guy who gets 200 hits a year, and make him an even better hitter by drawing the infield in, or play DP depth and pitch to Betancourt who should be batting 9th on a National League team? Bob Geren, who should be replaced as manager by a coin (better odds) chose to pitch to Ichiro, and Ichiro promptly singled to left.
Meanwhile, the A's were shutout for 6 innings by Jarrod Washburn, thanks in large part to Giambi's strikeout with the bases loaded and one out when the A's had Washburn on the ropes in the 1st inning. However, the M's had the cure: Miguel Batista! Batista recorded only one out, while walking a couple, serving up an RBI single to Orlando Cabrera and loading the bases for Jack Cust before turning the mess over to Mark Lowe. Cust flied to shallow CF, but Holliday walked on 4 pitches to force in a run and that's when Giambi picked on the first pitch, scorching a 2-run single to center, 4-3 A's.
As Andrew Bailey warmed up to try to save it in the 9th, I tried an experiment. I poured myself a glass of Bailey's Irish Cream and downed it between innings. I figured if it worked, I would be forced - by the laws of baseball superstition - to drink a glass of Bailey's every time Andrew came in to try to save a game. I am pleased to report I will be drinking a lot more in the future. Now if Billy Beane can just find a LOOGY named Jack Daniels, this season might turn out all right after all.

In regards to our first three-game winning streak, I think I speak for everyone when I say that it’s about damn time.

ZigFan31 - May 26, 2009
I've earned it.
Awesome seats tonight too. Right by the A’s dugout. But I went and sat with the gang in 224 in the bottom of the 7th.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
That seat was beauteous.
But we were more fun.
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
Amen, sistah!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
You should've come up earlier
The A’s couldn’t do anything until you were with us….
gigglingone - May 26, 2009
We seem to have special powers,
when we join them together.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Kinda like the Wonder Twins.
I wonder who’s Gleek.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Bob Geren is Gleek…

I was rocking section 107 last night
Scooted over to see my friends in Sec. 122 in the 9th. Man, those seats are nice.

lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
I'm guessing it would involve Nomar with no legs
Kallus - May 26, 2009
It'd be hard to fit multiple injured players on a graph.

ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
You got it,

lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
We could have a chavvy special one day.
That would basically be like a hospital order.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
Would it be Mexican enough?
walkoff baltimore chop - May 26, 2009
As Mex as Taco Bell
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
I like Taco Bell, and there seems to be
Mexicans working there every time I go. So it may be Mexican enough.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Yo tambien
Rocio used to laugh at me for eating there: “That’s not Mexican food!” Didn’t take long for her to love it too.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
I am 0-5 in retorts tonight.
JUST GIVE ME THIS…
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
gladly, Cap'n.
What is it you want?
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Power Sash.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
um...
power sash?
It’s not in my power. I stopped somewhere along the part two of Baldur’s Gate…sorry.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Does it repel Zombies?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
As long as it doesn't affect vampires
We’ll get along famously.
mikev - May 26, 2009
Are we on good terms with the vamps?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 26, 2009
as far as I know.
though they’re not very anti-zombie as zombies have no blood.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
I am, yes.
mikev - May 27, 2009
...
…I don’t think so, but it looks powerful, though I don’t know Everquest at all…
Um, how about I just get you this?
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
I already got a copy of that.
I guess I’ll just be hunting zbay for a power sash now
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
I tell you what,
I’m EXTREMELY tempted to buy this.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Haha, that sounds like a good read.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
HAHAHA!

Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
That's GOTTA be someone's new sigline.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Right?
AND, is nothing safe from zombies?
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Vampires
mikev - May 27, 2009
I would assume other zombies are safe from zombies
And perhaps brainless creatures?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
Bob Geren's safe from zombies?
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Indeed.
mikev - May 27, 2009

walkoff baltimore chop - May 27, 2009
there've been examples
including the end skill learned in Dead Rising, where acting like a zombie keeps you safe from other zombies. I dunno if it would work, but I don’t like the menu.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
So when cornered by zombies
moaning and exclaiming “brain(z)” will keep me out of harm?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
I'm not sure.
But as a last resort, I’d say, try it.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Seriously.
It does.
walkoff baltimore chop - May 27, 2009
Yes
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009

I rather like it a lot too…
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Baldur's Gate.
OldhamA - May 27, 2009
Oh!
You’re not going for hyperbole, then. Hmmm. Yes, the series as a whole was incredibly strong. I loved it. I still break it out sometimes. Best ever? Certainly in the top five. May very well be, Oldham.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
that's some epic geek-ery, LB
Not that I immediately thought of a similar item from Final Fantasy III or aything…
cityplANner - May 27, 2009
Can't speak to FFIII
but VII to IX come to mind…I’m also very partial lately to Fallout 3 and there’s always San Andreas, which, as a Californian and a proponent of gangsta rap, makes me very happy all around. But all of those are very different from BG. And I am a closet geek. Those closest to me say it’s not really that big of a secret.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009

What the hell? Somewhere, somebody hates me. :(

Damn.

cityplANner - May 27, 2009

Rosco’s Rap is part of Tapeheads, and it’s not actually Roscoe himself, but a very white King Cotton doing a rap. But it was kind of the point.

Colorado Fan - May 26, 2009
Nice game and streak
This really isn’t a bad team. True, the manager is no rocket scientist and the pitching is young but the A’s are not a bad team.
I still believe that this team can get back into the race.
Yellowhorse - May 26, 2009
Honestly- I could have done w/ out all the suckitude this year
But I’d rather have it earlier than when were in a race.
(even if its for 3rd place) ;)
brian.only - May 26, 2009
I think we'll see the return of the "2nd half surge" that we all used to take for granted in the early aughts
This team is perfectly positioned to make a huge 2nd half run through some rookie breakouts and the large amount of tradeable pieces we have.
cityplANner - May 27, 2009
big bottles for Nico. This should last until the ASB

Looked pretty lights out tonight. It’s nice thinking blow this guy away rather than go slower Ziggy or trying to survive Street.
niallmack - May 26, 2009
Nice to see him go 1 inning and be told
“Fastballs, Andrew, fastballs.” He should never get beaten with his curve because he should throw it seldom and often at the ankles, occasionally to steal a strike.
Nico - May 26, 2009
Were some of those cutters?
It looked like 4 seamers at 95 and cutters around 92 or 93.
niallmack - May 26, 2009
he gave the HR on a cutter.
Probly Zobrist was sittin’ on a cutter.

Damn! Wish I WAS going!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
I disagree about pitching to Ichiro
If you walk him there, odds are pretty good he steals second. Now you’ve got the same choice except if the infield is in, the Mariners can score two runs with a hit. And Braden had gotten him out twice before
jasonthea - May 26, 2009
good thought, but would Ichiro steal
off a left-hander with Braden’s move? And get caught, take the bat out of the hitter’s hands with that run at third?

Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Well that was excellent.
I was holding out hope and I’m glad I did (and that 67M’s curse is broken…not that I believe in curses, but at least the guy has one win this year). Nice to see Braden pitch deep into the game, but I wish he would stop trying to block grounders with his body. Oh, and Bailey is a stud.

BTW, one of the guys that threw out the first pitch tonight was Urijah Faber, Former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight.

I like that little guy.
He’s supper positive and REALLY cut for a little guy.
He lost his belt in Florida earlier this year/late last year on a real fluke. He’s gonna get it back the first week in June in Sactown.

He’s short, but yummy.

Hahaha!
He is really tiny, but adorable.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009

67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
we were going to ban you from attending any more, you know.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Oh I know.
I saw the vote totals.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
I think the only one who voted for you was Nico.
And he’s clearly drunk.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
I'm sure he didn't mean to.
But really? No vote from Joey? He’s so dead.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
Oh, he wanted to,
but I told him he couldn’t be in the triad of drunken fat losers if he didn’t vote with me.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Haha!
I have a picture of you looking very pensive.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
photos?
me wants.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Only for you.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
I rock!
No, wait, you rock!
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
No....no no. I want some!
ZigFan31 - May 26, 2009
And what do I get?
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Hummm...what do you want?
ZigFan31 - May 26, 2009
$39.99
mikev - May 26, 2009
Cheap
ZigFan31 - May 26, 2009
A memento from the So-Cal trip.
You decide, I trust you.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Oh, send them to me too!
gigglingone - May 26, 2009
I was praying!
But yeah, I like pensive. ;-)
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
We joined powers, it worked out.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
(you guys had a little help here too, you know)
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Of course, darling.
You were there, in spirit if not in deed.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
....
….did you bring my voodoo doll again?
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
The Ichiro one?
I think we ALL did.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Like magic.
You should have seen, gang, after the A’s took the lead, Lynn went downstairs for some water, and we nearly had a cow: “You can’t leave! Get your ass back here!”
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
And then things were thrust at me, ack!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
they threatened you with bodily harm?
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Haha!
No, just their water bottles! It was surreal!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
wes7 did.
I had to hold him back. Dude’s crazy. I love it.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
You know,
we need much more wes7 on here. We’ve definitely had a lack thereof for several months now.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
He's a doll!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
I suppose I better take the hint
All right, I’ll start posting more. Yeah, I can do that. Gladly. :-)
Wes7 - May 26, 2009
{gasp}
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Yayyyy!
More quarters please! I earned ’em!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
TW.. oh, damn, you ARE a S.
mikev - May 26, 2009
Yeah, I didn't realize there was an AN group going.
Haven’t been around here much the past few days.
I might go tomorrow afternoon, but that might be pushing my luck… but I like day games, so we’ll see…
whiteshoes40 - May 26, 2009
tomorrow day game?!
Yay!
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
I think I'll refrain from pressing my luck,
and cherish this win until the team gets back.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
No whammy, no whammy...
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
I used to watch that religiously.
Love.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009

Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Sign Michael Larson now!
Gaijin_Suketto - May 27, 2009
dude.
I had no idea. That’s a disturbing and depressing Wikipedia page.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Windsail!
Valued at $1,400!
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Greenday guests on Colbert...weird.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
oh my.
the interview part was awesome.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Love them!
I’ll have to watch.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Coming on right now.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Great interview part and the song wasn't bad, either.
the interview was AWESOME, though.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
I saw them at one of their secret Oakland shows last month at the Uptown
$20 admission. 400 people jammed into a very small club. Almost trampled several times. Totally worth it.
I’m also excited for the Greenday musical Berkeley Rep is doing next season. I think they’re starting casting for it soon.
cityplANner - May 27, 2009
CANNOT. WAIT.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Berkeley Rep is sparing no expense
The talent they’ll be bringing in from NY for the 2 leads is going to blow your mind.
My gf was this close to landing their company management position. I coulda gone to the premier. DAMN!!
cityplANner - May 27, 2009
My mother's come to two games at the Coliseum.
The first was in 1983, the second was tonight. The A’s won both games. Obviously she needs to come to more games (small sample size).
richwol1 - May 26, 2009
26 years apart?
That’s actually pretty awesome. And has to be some kind of record.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
Maybe 26 years would be a good span of time for you to wait...?
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
And since today is the 26th,
you might be on to something.
Me, I’m just on something.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
Heh, heh!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
agrd.
your mom’s a good luck charm.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Your mom was a trip into the future for me...
…i’m pretty sure that my mom will be just like her in 13 years, only my mom isn’t a Mets fan (or a fan of any sport) and she’d have no idea about what a cut fastball is.
Your mom should come with us more often.
(But they could both find Ron Darling to be cute).
Dr Pez - May 27, 2009
i am not sure if everyone else thinks like me
but during this 3 game streak so far, i have really enjoyed watching the A’s play
Wreckonized - May 26, 2009
I think that's a sentiment
that I can wrap my arms around.
Then again I’ve been up since 4:30 this morning, and I am quite giddy after tonight’s win.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
I missed the first three innings cause of my nap.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
I wondered where you were?!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
I's sleeping.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Get it while you can, baby!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
Is TWSS?
mikev - May 26, 2009
followed by a constitutional no doubt
If you really embrace the Fla. lifestyle.
Future Ed - May 26, 2009
I think it would've been more like bedtime at 7pm instead of nap time.
but yes, pooping fits in there somewhere for Floridians, sure.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
...it's late late late
I thought you missed the Coliseum exits, because of your “map”.
One won lost won - May 26, 2009
it's only 3am.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
You amaze me.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
You should've seen me when I partied.
There’s literally no good reason for me to still be alive.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Yes, there is.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
hot pants?
mikev - May 26, 2009
Haha!
THAT would be one.
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
that might be it.
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
pshaw
It’s like 6am in England.
mikev - May 26, 2009
I like naps.
67MARQUEZ - May 26, 2009
Hi, I'm a sentiment.
mikev - May 26, 2009
This? This was good times.
I had no intention of going to the game tonight. Even after Gigglingone made me aware that Pam had a ticket that she was looking to give to someone. Even after Gigglingone made me aware that said ticket would set me back a mere $2.00 and that I’d get to hang out with good people. (I’m a responsible bachelor, you see? When I tell you that my kitchen is kind of disgustingly filthy, and that I was thinking I would clean it tonight, you’ll probably want to take my word for it. See?)
But then my brother, my former roommate as of Sunday night, texted me telling me that he’d be over tomorrow night to help me clean the place up. And that’s when I knew that I kind of had to go. So I did. And while I was wary after the first, annoyed after the fourth, and ecstatically indignant after the seventh (ecstatic after Giambi’s hit, indignant that Lynn would think about getting water then), it all worked out well. I just need to avoid my kitchen for the next eighteen hours.
BTW, can I too say how much I love Bailey? Sweet fancy Moses does that man have some good stuff.
Anyway, it was a great night. Thanks, Pam! Thanks, Gigglingone!
Wes7 - May 26, 2009
Hey, where's my thanks?
oh wait. I didn’t do anything.
Never mind.
May I suggest either skipping breakfast or attending the McDonald’s?
Leopold Bloom - May 26, 2009
Yeah, I'm thinking I'll grab a bagel in one of the school's dining areas
Yet another reason why I like working in higher ed. The only people hungrier than the folks in my office are the undergrads who need something to get them through Psych 100.
Wes7 - May 26, 2009
You two will get along famously!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
That was actually the cool thing about the U of C.
There were random cafes everywhere. It was strange. If you searched hard enough, you could find, like a half dozen in a couple buildings…
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
C?
Columbia? Colorado? Connecticut?
cityplANner - May 27, 2009
Chicago
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
glad you decided to come along!
and thanks to LongTimeFan for the ticket voucher, and to Pam for organizing it. :)
And yes, next time I’ll take sandwich orders in advance. I thought you two were going to devour the entire thing right out of my lap…
gigglingone - May 26, 2009
I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE GONE
mikev - May 26, 2009
Sorry! I was hungry :(
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
In fact, I'm hungry now just thinking about it.
Damnit.
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
me too...
how late are they open?
gigglingone - May 27, 2009
Y'know...I almost suggested we go somewhere to eat.
Waaaah!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Doh! Next time suggest it!!!
I hadn’t seen you since Opening Night! We’ll need to have dinner or something sometime….
gigglingone - May 27, 2009
there's always Jack in the Box
I hear they have these little mini burgers…
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Seriously, has anyone actually tried them?
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
I did once.
Way out west.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
someone should bring some to AN Day
gigglingone - May 27, 2009
I will.
Oh wait. I won’t be there.
mikev - May 27, 2009
mikev will hurt someone
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Will that someone be tiny and bold?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
It'll be a fair fight.
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
not if it's Urijah.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Good point!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Hey now
mikev - May 27, 2009
What?
You aren’t tiny and bold? Its what I like about you.
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
and Urijah.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
You're comparing him to mini-schnauzers.
I think he might have a conniption.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Sorry, cowboys, tiny and bold.
iglew would have my head for getting the lyrics wrong.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
See, Urijah's so positive, I think
he’d appreciate being compared to miniature schnauzers.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Love the sig.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Its perfect!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
actually, it is perfect for me.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Yes, haha!
Zombies and literature. The perfect combo.
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
i bought that book a few weeks back its amazing!!
dtownmbrown - May 27, 2009
I'll email you soon,
we will. Pick a game and we’ll do that.
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Too late. I'm already in bed.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
You make for a good victim
Who knew that bringing a sandwich from Genova would inspire fits of slobbering envy? Yeah, you’re right, no-one could have expected that. No-one at all. :-)
Wes7 - May 26, 2009
It was fate.
I’m glad you decided for good times!
lynnzgal - May 26, 2009
It was so much fun
I love having the chance to watch a game with all of you. Linoleum fungi can be exterminated anytime.
If I discover a rat infestation, though, I might have to invite all of you over to help take them out.
Wes7 - May 27, 2009
Linoleum fungi
can be used to light the kitchen. At least I remember something like that from Escape from the SlaveLords, A-4….
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
darn nearsightedness...
I thought you were talking about Lincecum Fungoes, the official fungo bat endorsed by Tim Lincecum…
Gaijin_Suketto - May 27, 2009
and BTW,
I am NOT mean.
pam5981 - May 26, 2009
What a comeback win this evening.
I watched the game from the 3rd inning on, on my DVR, as that is where I left off while at work. Nice to see the Giambino come through when we really needed him to. Nice effort by Braden and “Pepe”, and Bailey looked absolutely sick out there in the 9th! Man, so this is what it is like to win 3 in a row, huh? I still don’t like some of the moves Geren was making tonight but tonight I’m gonna just savor the sweet taste of victory. Go A’s!
mrod - May 27, 2009
I really need a DVR.
that apparently’s the way to watch, well, everything.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Truth.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
Eh. By then its in the past.
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
that's true too...
I’m so torn.
But, wait, I listen to 90% of the games anyhow. I never watch em.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Never watch TV without it
DCinWC - May 27, 2009
I heard a ruckus.
What are you guys doing awake?
I was going to write a post about tonight, but figured it would be somewhat anticlimatic. Let’s just say that the seventh time turned out to be the charm for both the A’s and I.
It was the A’s seventh attempt at three in a row, and I am pretty sure you all heard about that nasty little slump of mine. But the losing streak is no more, thanks to six people who stuck it out with me- even after the first inning, when I really considered throwing myself off the second deck.
(Side note: I was certain that Wes7 changed the words to “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”. I heard this: “If they don’t win, Don’s to blame.” He said, "I would never do such a thing. But I did sing, “I don’t care if Don ever comes back.” AN love, there’s nothing like it).
Here’s to pam5981, gigglingone, lynnzgal, Wes7, OaklandSi,…and of course LongTimeFan for the hook-up. It took the seven of us to keep me from going to 0-7.
And on the seventh game, after the comeback in the seventh inning, I saw that it was good, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
Seventh heaven, indeed.
Now pretty please, with sugar on top, go to bed. I’m gonna count to seven…
67MARQUEZ - May 27, 2009
Dad?
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
"Obi-Won never told you?".....
“I am your father!”
mrod - May 27, 2009
Vader?
walkoff baltimore chop - May 27, 2009
"Your not my father......that's impossible!"
mrod - May 27, 2009
so what of the 8th
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
eh,
fuck bed. I’m doing a DLD.
Bastards refuse to write one, even when we win…
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
I don't refuse. In fact I was contemplating thinking about maybe starting one today (Tuesday)
but I had shit to do.
pam5981 - May 27, 2009
In the morning, bed will regret it.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
Or at some point....
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
then Pennington takes over
walkoff baltimore chop - May 27, 2009
OMG! Not Pennington!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Hell no.

pam5981 - May 27, 2009
He went oafer today.

ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
it was the lefty.
we need Kielty back.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
I really guess I need new glasses,
’cause at first glance, I read, “Adam Kennedy Fan Club, repent!”
and I was thinking, “damn, that’s really harsh. He’s still hitting over .400”
Gaijin_Suketto - May 27, 2009

walkoff baltimore chop - May 27, 2009
I can get behind that!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009

that’s why god made coffee.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
Have you drugged bed also?!?!
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
Good night all.......
Oh so nice to catch up with all of you. Let’s bust out those brooms tomorrow, shall we? Lynn, your father says you should remember to flip your pillow twice before you go to bed tonight! And that’s final!!!!!!!! Later bitches! M-Rod

supermarc589 - May 27, 2009
Oh my, what a sig line....!
mrod - May 27, 2009
Okay, so I kind of lied about going to bed
but I was reading Slusser’s game wrap about Big Bad Bailey’s performance in the 9th this evening and wanted to post this….
mrod - May 27, 2009
He was, as they say, lights out!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
He should have paused for a second, then said
“Kaboom”
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
Or, 100% Boom Dazzle!
lynnzgal - May 27, 2009
Superb.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 27, 2009
hmm he's a local boy to me
he probably grew up being a yankee fan
closetasfan - May 27, 2009
Bailey is from Haddon Heights, NJ
that is, about 90 miles from NYC and less than 7 miles from the Vet/Citizens Bank. Unless he inherited Yankeeism from his parents, he’s gotta be a Phillies fan.
Nick - May 27, 2009
or maybe he's got an old school grandpa and
he’s an A’s fan…
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
There are probably more Philadelphia Stars fans than Philadelphia A's fans left in the Delaware Valley
Nick - May 27, 2009
you would know MUCH more so than me, Nick.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
or even a Mets fan
OaklandSi - May 27, 2009
Haddon Heights is right next to PA...
and all those people from that area (Cherry Hill) are all dirty Philly fans for the most part…but I’ll ask my buddy who played with him for 3 years at Wagner who he was a fan of…I would love it if he was an old school A’s fan..but theres about a 0.25% chance of that happening…
mills16 - May 27, 2009
The great dividing line question
The only way someone from south of, say, Mercer County can be brought up to root for a NYC/North Jersey team (besides inheriting it), is if they’re from somewhere down the Shore where New Yorkers go in the summer. Long Beach Island seems like a mixed area — south of it is still Philly-oriented, north of it tends more to NYC, from what I’ve seen and read. Places like Point Pleasant seemed very pro-Yankee when I went there. I wonder if anyone’s done an analysis based on Garden State Parkway exit numbers.
BTW, Sean Doolittle grew up in the Pine Barrens (Tabernacle), probably about 20 miles from where Bailey grew up.
Nick - May 27, 2009
I'm from Jersey...
Live in Central Jersey, work in south Jersey…I am just north of Pt. Pleasant…majority of the people I work with are born and raised in south jersey, and majority of them are Philly Fans…
But there is a definite distinction between north and south jersey (south is anything south of the Driscol Bridge—-so exit 125 and below) from peoples accents to the teams they root for (most people from LBI are also Philly Fans—-exit 63 on the GSP)
mills16 - May 27, 2009

First 3 game win streak...
first time Russ Springer hasn’t pitched in 3 consecutive games. Coincidence? I think not.
FoolshGame22 - May 27, 2009
Bailey
How about that Bailey kid huh?
slkierley - May 27, 2009
Few things from the game...
Dallas Braden, after the 1st, pitched pretty damn effectively…we have to be very happy that and hope that he can keep giving the A’s these kind of performances…
Great piece of hitting by O-Cab in the 7th and having his usual opposite field hit…
I was screaming at Davis during his at bat as he looked like he didn’t care…I loved him once he hit/slapped that ball to right
Good patience by Holliday not to swing at that 3-0 pitch…
And then, how about Bailey? Attacking those hitters…He looked very, very good tonight
mills16 - May 27, 2009
Why couldn't you guys have beaten us last year instead? :-(
Graham MacAree - May 27, 2009
Because, Graham,
we were disgustingly awful last year. We were horrible.
Leopold Bloom - May 27, 2009
sorry mate
last year you guys beat us all the time kind like we did in 2006.
mrod - May 27, 2009
Dare we dream....
of a legitimate sweep? A true series sweep with a four-in-a-row tossed in for good measure?
alox - May 27, 2009
it would be a hell of a lot more legit than that 2 game nonsense that some people wanted to call a "sweep"
mikev - May 27, 2009
Well, we are the A's.
We have to take what the baseball lords will deem fit.
alox - May 27, 2009
Yup
I’d take a one game sweep
fruitattack - May 27, 2009
A sweep is a sweep is a sweep.
We won ’em all and they won none.
