Just a note: The big mistake, IMO, in that inning was not pitching Crawford away. Single to left = 1st and 2nd, single to right = 1st and 3rd. In that situation, you pitch him away and try to overpower him.
Games like this is my answer to those guys who argue we may as well blow up the team if we can’t “contend” this year. No matter what the W-L record at the end of the year, a great game is a great game.
The two guys who have bunted are two of the highest average hitters on the team. They have bunted to set things up for Crosby, Cunningham, Cust (not a high average hitter), Holliday, and Giambi. The first two are bad hitters and the last three drive guys home from first as well as from second.
The Rays essentially made the deal because they wanted ot give him a chance to play somewhere
and if you’ve watched Iwamura at all these last couple days, that wasn’t going to happen in Tampa. Strangely, he’s better defensively than anyone else in our infield, and he might be the best offensively too.
when they take you to your illuminati secret meeting to reveal the unbearable truth that is GYMNASTICS be sure to take notes and hook me up with them afterwards
He’s playing poorly, but it was a good signing and he should play better as the season progresses. He’s actually striking out more than he normally does, but is doing pretty much everything else much worse. Maybe he hasn’t adjusted to the AL but I have to believe his BABIP will come down from .348 and some of the HRs will turn into flyouts. His track record is too good to believe he won’t do better.
Yeah, his BABIP is high, higher than he’s used to, but his FIP (which doesn’t have any effects from BABIP at all) is almost two runs higher than his ERA. Plus, his xFIP (FIP with a normalized home run rate) is a tad higher than his regular FIP. He’s actually doing better than average with respect to HRs and flyouts.
But he’s not doing better than HIS average. He’s producing a higher percentage of fly balls than in previous years and more of those fly balls are being hit for home runs.
He’s playing uncharacteristically bad and I expect him to improve. The only thing that worries me is that the velocity on his pitches is down, but it’s not a significant decrease and he’s not having trouble striking hitters out. Anyway, I don’t think he’s a terrible pitcher, I just think he’s pitching pretty terrible so far.
was visiting The Stockyards on advice from local. Must have been a game coming up that weekend……lots of big burley meat head fans with Boomer Sooner Red T-shirts….or was it Sooner Boomer?
I’m originally from Oklahoma City and those red shirts are ubiquitous there! I deliberately went on a shopping trip to find an OU shirt that didn’t have football or red on it. I found nice green OU shirt with a recycling logo on it.
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for me
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for me
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for me
Oh, Victory, Victory, Victory starts with V!
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for me!
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for me!
V is for Victory! That’s good enough for meeeeeee!
Oh, Victory, Victory, Victory starts with V!
AHHH!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
New thread as a reply?
I am full of firsts, aren’t I?
67MARQUEZ - May 19, 2009
To your credit
You replied to my post. I respect that.
SeanR - May 19, 2009
Well that changes everything.
And if we win, same thing tomorrow.
67MARQUEZ - May 19, 2009
k
I’ll make sure I’m present in a game thread
SeanR - May 19, 2009
That was funny,
but I got it.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
you're a maverick.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Well, you can be, but I think you gotta pay extra for tha...
or “firsts”…yes, yes, you are.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Dodged a bullet - nice job.
Just a note: The big mistake, IMO, in that inning was not pitching Crawford away. Single to left = 1st and 2nd, single to right = 1st and 3rd. In that situation, you pitch him away and try to overpower him.
Nico - May 19, 2009
that was freaking beautiful
What an extremely bright spot in this very dark season!
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
HOT DAMN.
Let’s go offense!
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
roomy.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Leopold
Does the dome slingshot you out of there like when you leave the Metrodome?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
No,
it’s not vacuum sealed like the Met.
They do something funny there that they don’t do at the Trop.
The Trop is an extremely strange place. Up until the success of last year, it seemed more like a baseball mausoleum than anything.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
smith1051
said it was a very interesting place to see a game. Wonder what happened to that guy?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Even the Metrodome doesn't do that as much as it used to
Englishmajor - May 19, 2009
Haven't been there in years and don't plan on returning either.
The Metrodome is something you only need to see once.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Uhh, new strikezone all of a sudden...
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
New ways to get a basehit.
OCab used a little Vlady on that one.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
That's his reward for trotting to first before the ump signalled a ball.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
rally!
whiteshoes40 - May 19, 2009
Win or lose, this is a great game.
Games like this is my answer to those guys who argue we may as well blow up the team if we can’t “contend” this year. No matter what the W-L record at the end of the year, a great game is a great game.
iglew - May 19, 2009
To be fair
I’d hope that we don’t dump Outman, Bailey, or Wuertz in the blowing up process – they are all positives for us this year.
SeanR - May 19, 2009
A game where the pitching has held strong and the offence has failed to show up, again?
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Yes.
Lots of excitement. Suspense right up to the end. Good performance by Outman. Excellent drama in the Bailey inning.
For me, that’s a good game.
iglew - May 19, 2009
It would be great to have a guy named Outman
who gets outs, man.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Far out, man!
iglew - May 19, 2009
I feel like you are channeling Dennis Hopper
for some odd reason
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Admittedly,
there’s no reason to channel him that isn’t odd.
iglew - May 19, 2009
totally agree.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
It's better than giving up 5 runs in the first and then continuing to
leak runs, but as we know we’ll eventually lose this because our O is pathetic it’s still bad.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
And Vince just said carooms.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Is that how Oldham spells "caroms"?
iglew - May 19, 2009
nah, that'd definitely have a U in it.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Haha!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
he's been reading his thesaurus.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Right?
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
affirmative.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Hit the ball to right side
no bunting even though Kurt is prone to DP
Trainman - May 19, 2009
too late.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Eh
With Cust and Holliday the next batters and a 0-0 game, I’m not opposed to the bunt choice.
Nate - May 19, 2009
HOW DO YOU TAKE THE BAT OUT OF KURT SUZUKI'S HANDS?
Nico - May 19, 2009
SPELLED B-O-B
G-E-R-E-N
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
It's the right decision
Two chances for your 2 best hitters to drive a run home now. Just gotta get it done.
SeanR - May 19, 2009
Your best hitter just wasted an out
Trainman - May 19, 2009
We don't have a best hitter
And you guys, sometimes, are too hard on Geren. It’s easy to predict his moves to fail since we always fail, but it isn’t ALWAYS the managers fault.
Now let’s go Jack.
SeanR - May 19, 2009
And he does.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Even in a year like this,
Suzuki’s ISO is only .141. Not good odds that even if he got a hit, it’d be more than a single.
Nate - May 19, 2009
What's "ISO"?
iglew - May 19, 2009
Isolated Power
SLG-AVG.
Nate - May 19, 2009
International Socialist Organization
I didn’t even know Suzuki had one!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
shit, he organized one.
he’s all about workers unite!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I thought Suzuki *was* one of the two best hitters.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Aren't our two best hitters Suzuki and Cust?
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
+1
No need to formulate it as a question.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
You have to look at the big picture
The two guys who have bunted are two of the highest average hitters on the team. They have bunted to set things up for Crosby, Cunningham, Cust (not a high average hitter), Holliday, and Giambi. The first two are bad hitters and the last three drive guys home from first as well as from second.
Nico - May 19, 2009
I'm just saying that Suzuki & Cust are our two best hitters
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I'm not disagreeing with you, was replying to others above
Nico - May 19, 2009
I hear ya.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Huh?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Here comes 1st pitch change for Jack Cust
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Half of AN is still back on the other thread
including BBG.
iglew - May 19, 2009
They're complaining about the Suzuki bunt, too.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Yet all the action is happening here.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Bye Shields!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
I'll go get them.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Tell them to bring cookies.
Nate - May 19, 2009
And cupcakes.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
maybe a bit TOO clever.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Naw.
We have to work with what we’ve got.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
good point.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
It was a tricky transition
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
This is where Giambi becomes the game MVP?
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Not the AL MVP?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I am guess you already Holliday making an out?
Trainman - May 19, 2009
He lays off a meatball
and swings at a ball inside, and again at a ball WAY down.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Of course
Runners on and A"s hitters disolve
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Cos they were so turning up beforehand...
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Does Matty get a hit?
robbo650 - May 19, 2009
Howell kills right handed hitters
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Awful at bat
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Not this time :-(
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Oh, Holliday. Really?
whiteshoes40 - May 19, 2009
IM SOOOOOOOOO GLAD WE GOT HOLLIDAY
robbo650 - May 19, 2009
Um, I hate you Matt Holliday.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
moi aussi
stormtown - May 19, 2009
and I think the feeling is mutual
Holliday hates us
: /
SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009
Pretty sure I hate him more.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
c'mon JG. Shut them up.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Pinch hit for Giambi, please.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Stupid move to bunt Suzuki
Holliday is a PILE
baseballgirl - May 19, 2009
They are all a PILE
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Thanks Pam. I was left behind.
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
I do my part.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Me too!
I was so sad!
baseballgirl - May 19, 2009
I'm all about inclusion, remember? ;)
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
we wondered where you both were.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I was about to reply to you thinking we were the only ones left!
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
Me Three.
It’s a quiet night…but not that quiet.
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Gameday says those last two called strikes
are way outside.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
damn.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I'm on serious mlb.tv delay
So I got to watch Holliday K after reading about it.
Still painful!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
FML
robbo650 - May 19, 2009
disgusting.
Runner on 2nd, 3, 4, 5 hitters up, can’t score?
UGH.
baseballgirl - May 19, 2009
Well the #2 hitter wasn't allowed to swing the freaking bat
Nico - May 19, 2009
SO RIDICULOUS.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
I don't mind that as much as other decisions,
though then again that’s depending on the $13m not being wank.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Giese isn't here to give up the walk-off
who does it tonight?
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
JG is hitting .195!!!
robbo650 - May 19, 2009
{sigh}
guess who’s a sad panda.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Athletics Nation
robbo650 - May 19, 2009
Can we cut him?
Pretty please?
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
okay, but only once.
I’ll go get the razor.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I'm sure I'm dating myself with this, but
that totally makes me think of green-painted Yvonne Craig.

iglew - May 19, 2009
Is that one of the many green females Kirk slept with?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
"He's my lover and I have to kill him!"
But no, he never slept with her.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Sweet.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
A chopper to "SS" is a run
Hit right into the shift. Baseball is all about making adjustments.
Nico - May 19, 2009
Just what I said last night.
Someone helpfully pointed out that perhaps I was unaware that Giambi was washed up.
I won’t point that out to you (whoops…I guess I just did!).
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Did BB twitter anything as an answer to Nico's letter?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
does ordering Chinese takeout count?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Sad Panda Express?
Englishmajor - May 19, 2009
Haha!
Reason #3791
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
good start.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Thanks Pam
Englishmajor - May 19, 2009
Yay!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009

G has to get that.
SeanR - May 19, 2009
Giambi Fail
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
BTW, has anyone talked to Gigglingone?
Did everything go okay?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
she's alive! she just texted me.
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Yay!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Awesome!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Woo. Nice play by Croz.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
This team has been hard to watch all year
but now it is just ridiculous. We gotta start winning some games, for my health.
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
Please ...
… a double play … we need one.
Wolfgang - May 19, 2009
returned....we did not score??? shocked
ak_A - May 19, 2009
but the Rays also didn't score
so that should be shocked x10
buddahead9 - May 19, 2009
Cotroneo sucks so bad.
Whenever he has to read info off a page he stumbles.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Keep hitting like crap, Dioner!
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Whenever they say his name,
I wonder why “the owner” is getting involved in the game.
iglew - May 19, 2009
I remember him manning up against us in TB a couple summers ago.
HE was all over that plate and blocked someone from scoring…forget who.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Ziegler would be great in these types of situations
Obviously it would be better against a RH’er.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Someone needs to text me score updates.
My battery is gonna die in 12 minutes!
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
0-0
Nate - May 19, 2009
Unnecessary battery killing
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
the time to interrupt the self destruction has terminated
mother!!!!!!
ak_A - May 19, 2009
shut your mouth!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
this is ripley signing off the starship Athleticnomus
ak_A - May 19, 2009
I'm just talkin' 'bout Zigfan.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I was wondering what to replace 'Shaft' with..
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
I"m out guys. Someone hook a sister up!
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
We will.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
We'll find someone nice for you, too, baby.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Thanks!
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
yep. a droid? no one said there would be a droid
on this team. Relax it’s just Bob Geren, the corporation has rendered him harmless
ak_A - May 19, 2009
FU BJ!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Okay. Strickout pleez
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009

Nate - May 19, 2009
I'm not very selective regarding the methodology used for achieving an out
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009

ak_A - May 19, 2009
WOO
Excitement.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009

well, TW LB said.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Yay!
More baseball!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Yay!
I’m famous!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Woo! Bailey rocks!
iglew - May 19, 2009
He is fantastic
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Whoa. Didn't appreciate the glove jerk from Kennedy.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
It's his EAD
Excess Angel Douchiness.
Nate - May 19, 2009
I'll allow it.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
You can help prevent EAD
With your donation, we can save these poor souls, once they leave Anaheim, to become productive, useful members of society once again.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
We've already donated $4m to Cabrera and it's not helping him
become a productive member of society.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Going to 10!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Yes, but this goes to 11....
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Win.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Gosh you're cute!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009
Well this is at least different from the last few games!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Extra Innings!
Without Robert Buan, for the moment….
Englishmajor - May 19, 2009
Please God. Let us win 1 game.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Just one?
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Gotta start somewhere
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
It's a start
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Time for some EXTRAS
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009

louismg - May 19, 2009
I want to go get food
but I don’t want to miss any scoring
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
You're safe this half inning.
louismg - May 19, 2009
lol
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Good call.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
Or, really
this game.
Nate - May 19, 2009
yo, roger that!
ak_A - May 19, 2009
Ha!
Colorado Booze Hounds - May 19, 2009
it is fast food right?
ak_A - May 19, 2009
I think he could drive up to Napa
have the full tasting menu at the French Laundry, and probably still make it back.
Nate - May 19, 2009
Depends which team he's expecting not to score.
He could fly over here before our lot score again.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
I wasn't going to log on because the game was almost over
but heck, this could go on for a while!
kapers - May 19, 2009
Okay. You are still alive?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
KAPERS!
pam5981 - May 19, 2009
Bottom of the 10th now, ZF.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Send any scoring to phone. Losing internet access.
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
K.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
thanks
ZigFan31 - May 19, 2009
Rays win.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Santiago Casilla against Crawford, Longoria, Peña.
Hmm.
Nico - May 19, 2009
bye bye baby!
ak_A - May 19, 2009
in other words
Oh, Crap.
DyeLongJustice - May 19, 2009
Has their 2b (I won't even try to spell it) put like 90% of our outs
or is it just my memory playing tricks?
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Aki?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Ichiro Jr.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Yes! Just been pre-occupied since the season started.
Good to see you again. It’s been like a year or more.
kapers - May 19, 2009
oops, forgot to hit reply. it really has been too long
kapers - May 19, 2009
It's all good.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
did you get married while I was away?
kapers - May 19, 2009
Uh...no.
That is punishment for shoplifting according to Wayne Campbell.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
LOL, I just thought you were headed in that direction.
kapers - May 19, 2009
All you AN'ers are absolutely awesome!
but this team… (grumbles profanities)
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
All of us eh?
You’ve much to learn…
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
IMO, should be Hannahan in right now for defense at 3B
Nico - May 19, 2009
What about SS?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Strictly speaking do we need to field one?
Given our roster we might do better without.
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Okay. Let's try it.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Casilla's in the game...
that means it’ll be over soon.
Gaijin_Suketto - May 19, 2009
good start.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
DP
Got ’em right where we want ’em
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I really hope Longoria doesn't single right now,
but I got a case of Casillaitis and I’m scared
Gaijin_Suketto - May 19, 2009
somebody hold me
Gaijin_Suketto - May 19, 2009

Cabrera has noodles?
I like noodles.
…think he’d share?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I like apples
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
He seems the selfish type.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
maybe I could wait til he gave a pep talk.
then he’s have to share!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I don't see this lasting more than another two batters.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
1 more
ak_A - May 19, 2009
well, there's one wrong.
two more dangerous guys to get through.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I don't see us scoring a run
on what I have seen so far
Trainman - May 19, 2009
This year?
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Seems like it
Trainman - May 19, 2009
seems the last time I watched a baseball game I was rooting for the Rays
kapers - May 19, 2009
You have been gone forever.
And I still haven’t forgotten about your DVD’s.
67MARQUEZ - May 19, 2009
I'm impressed because I forgot
kapers - May 19, 2009
The e-mail is still in my in-box
Since like November.
67MARQUEZ - May 19, 2009
I totally forgot about them.
and I’m afraid Blockbuster wants a word with you…
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
They won't miss these ones.
67MARQUEZ - May 19, 2009
That's a horrible attitude, co-author.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
whew,
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
super
ak_A - May 19, 2009
WHAT.A.PLAY.
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
I don't even know that guy but GOOD JOB
kapers - May 19, 2009
It's been quite an adventure getting him here.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Howard and Mrs. C would be proud.
Nice job Cunningham.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Casilla - I got my guy
louismg - May 19, 2009
I complain about Cotroneo a lot,
so I guess I should credit him for that call. Judging from the crowd noise they were half-fooled, but Vince was not.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Dang.
Nice save by Kennedy.
louismg - May 19, 2009
Thank god!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Forget the runner
Get the guy at plate
Bad things happen when you throw the ball away
Trainman - May 19, 2009
I totally expected that to get past him
kapers - May 19, 2009
Jairo of the Beach!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
K!
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
BOOM!
On to the 11th we go.
louismg - May 19, 2009
All I can say is, I'm glad they're playing on my coast and not yours
kapers - May 19, 2009
boom goes the dynamite!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I still feel for that guy.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
that was at my original alma mater.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
woo!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Dear Santiago
Thank you.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I'm liking this Kennedy character.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
"He plays the game right"
Gamer. Grit.
Nico - May 19, 2009
and rarely hits homers
Are you talking about Jason Kendall?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Let's get Figgins next.
iglew - May 19, 2009
NO CHONE!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
With our current state of hitters he would be ideal
NEVER thought I would say that.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
NO CHONE!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I. think. you. are. wrong.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Still,
a great band name.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
NO CHONE!
FOUR LEGS GOOD! CHONE BAD!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
It solves two problems.
It gives us a guy who can wreak havoc on the basepaths plus it takes away a HOF’er we have to face. He is only a HOF’er against us, of course.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Now there's a band name!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Really seems like a good pick up
especially when you consider the current team
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
The Rays essentially made the deal because they wanted ot give him a chance to play somewhere
and if you’ve watched Iwamura at all these last couple days, that wasn’t going to happen in Tampa. Strangely, he’s better defensively than anyone else in our infield, and he might be the best offensively too.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I thought having HIM bunt was also a mistake
But it was one that I liked.
Nico - May 19, 2009
it was a good move by BB.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Yay, Santiago!
Who’s next?
iglew - May 19, 2009
EDGAR!!!111
Nico - May 19, 2009
I gotta get some snacks fast - dont wanna miss the third out.
ak_A - May 19, 2009
hurry.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Steak is cooked and rested,
no way I can leave. The boy will have to wait.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
sad boy.
no steak.
I’m forming a band named that. Who’s in?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Need an underwhelming guitarist?
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
yup. you
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
're in...excuse me
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Gesundheit
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
Called no steak?
That’s cool!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
sad boy, no steak.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
When you return baby.
I promise.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
yay!
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I'm pretty enough to be the lead singer.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Okay. You're in.
But no English singing.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Why don't the English have accents when they sing?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Exactly.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
They're too busy biting our rock 'n' roll style
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
They do.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Oh rly?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Clearlake.
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Some of 'em do, for sure
Mostly the more modern bands, it seems. Arctic Monkeys. The Streets. So forth.
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
Singers are either side of the pond
will more readily adopt the accent of the style they’re singing.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Speaking and singing use different parts of the brain
That’s why some really bad stutterers can sing just fine.
P.S. One of the bad-accent radio ads is on right now.
iglew - May 19, 2009

Due Up
Cunningham, O’Cab, Suzuki
SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009
So that's the pitch you choose in the 11th with nobody out
leading off. Oh well the guy just saved the game.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Now score some runs
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Someone get a stinking hit!
Frustrating!
asfaninpismobeach - May 19, 2009
Oi!
What’s this I ’ear about extras?
Go A’s.
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
0-0 in the eleventh?
Welcome back, 2007 A’s!
phastphill - May 19, 2009
So when a bat breaks, is it always due to a good pitch, or
is it sometimes just a defective bat? Cunningham looked like he squared that one up is why I ask.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
I heard on the radio this morning that the A's have given up 47 runs in their 4 losses?
what changed tonight? I realize the offense is the same as usual.
kapers - May 19, 2009
To everyone's surprise,
Outman turns out to be our best starter.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Tonight, anyway
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
He had 3 good starts before tonight so...
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Truf
He’s had a couple good ‘uns. I’m just not sold on a guy who’s max-effort on every pitch and has yet to see the 7th inning except as a reliever.
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
I don't think truf's a word,
though it really ,really should be.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Frankly, we can do whatever the hell we please
Including revolutionizidation of the English language.
Joey C. - May 19, 2009
You already have.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
We have absolute power!
Except when it comes to our players (sigh).
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Geren giving signs to Ocab on a 2-2 count
Thanks coach!
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Please let us last long enough to get to Percival
Even these shitbags should be able to score off him
Now we hear Springer up. Springer = loss
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Who is left in the pen?
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
No, not a loss
Just means we need a couple runs this inning.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Springer's not bad - the least of our problems
Nico - May 19, 2009
Come on, A's!
Earn your manager’s complacent post-game statements to the press!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
glad to see i haven't missed much
DyeLongJustice - May 19, 2009
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Is Anthem the only advertiser on tv?
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009

kapers - May 19, 2009
Gettin in their head.
Cust is like that.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009

ak_A - May 19, 2009
No out.!!!
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Yay, error by someone who isn't an A!
iglew - May 19, 2009
Better still, by someone playing the A's!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Wow, when I clicked on MLB.com, I wasn't expecting this.
0-0 in the top of the 11th? That’s good, right?
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
Earn your money Holliday
for once when it counts
Trainman - May 19, 2009
He has to get lucky soon enough??
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
wow we're doing good...i'll keep not paying attention...
DyeLongJustice - May 19, 2009
Damn.
Lakers up by 1 at half over the Nuggets. Fisher hits a 3 at the halftime buzzer.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I'm rooting for the Cavs, wish I could afford to get tix when they come to Orlando
kapers - May 19, 2009
Cleveland/LA will be a great series IF it happens
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Please capitalize, please
SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009

danmerqury - May 19, 2009
Right down the shitter for Holliday.

ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
If it's close swing at it
Trainman - May 19, 2009
He was adjusting his feet in the box and looked so uncomfortable then

Matt Holliday steps up and I....
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
Holy crap, yes.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
I just ate a grape and I......?
Syphon - May 19, 2009
OK, is anyone still doubting that this is an awesome game?
iglew - May 19, 2009
nope.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
This game totally leads on Baseball Tonight
starting with Bailey striking out Longoria in the 8th, and then ending with Holliday’s HR. The story just writes itself.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Nah.
A-Rod homered tonight. No way it doesn’t lead.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
A-Rod
and Tex homered. Big story yet again.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
Jeter hit a bases clearing double.
They won’t have time left to cover the other games.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Plus Papi played for the first time since Thursday.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Did Damon do anything
They might run a little late if he did.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
You didn't tell me the trade bait was going to hit a 3 run jack in extras...
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Man, I had a feeling Holliday was going to do that
I woulda looked smart if I had posted it!
Nico - May 19, 2009
Capitalization is the new Gymnastics!
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
RALLY CAPS!
danmerqury - May 19, 2009

SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009

RALLY CAPS.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
I still don't know what gymnastics is about.
I even tried AN super-search but still couldn’t figure it out.

ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Yes yes yes yes yes
Yes sir.
worldblee - May 19, 2009
Rats, I wanted to see the A's play tonight. Who is this other green and gold team?
kapers - May 19, 2009
Maybe we just needed you all along!
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Small sample size.
Stick around though, we’ll soon get to the bottom of it.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
THAT WAS HUGE
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
How was that the same man as the last 4 at bats?
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
That made up for the strikeout last AB, and then some
Holliday’s smiling because his trade value just went up a little more. No, kidding. Nice swat, though.
Flashfire - May 19, 2009
ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG
zomg
Poweshow - May 19, 2009
That was a great time to come thru
for obvious reasons.
That and Springer is up in pen
Trainman - May 19, 2009
is he our closer now?
rktse - May 19, 2009
He's our 'we have nobody left in the pen' guy.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
The Pen Is Mighter.
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
Than our rotation?
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
We're so not used to celebrating...
I can’t even spell Holy Toledo correctly. FAIL on my part.
louismg - May 19, 2009
Holy shit!
I was not expecting that!
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
amen
9Custs - May 19, 2009
No kidding.
UncleLeo - May 19, 2009
You can't spell Toledo either
Englishmajor - May 19, 2009
Ok, dude earned his paycheck tonight.
Jackson23 - May 19, 2009
About 1/162 of it.
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
Yep...his *nightly* paycheck. Now he's just gotta find a pawn shop that'll cash it without ID....
Jackson23 - May 19, 2009
Yay Holliday
Go trade value!!
Kallus - May 19, 2009
King Felix sucks
gives slegnA runs without getting outs
Trainman - May 19, 2009
He's the most mediocre second coming ever.
I know he’s still young, but jeez.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
This whole "Giambi getting walks" thing is something I can get behind
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
I honestly think he goes up to the plate looking to work a walk.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
Holliday great trade!!!
Billy Beane is a geniouss!!
phastphill - May 19, 2009
And why don't we play Davis more?
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
davis
best bit of baserunning I’ve seen from him in weeks.
phastphill - May 19, 2009
I was actually gonna post a prediction of a 3-run homer when he came to the plate...
But logic prevailed and I didn’t.
Jackson23 - May 19, 2009
FAIL
rktse - May 19, 2009
Happy to fail on that one.
Jackson23 - May 19, 2009
Holliday looked like Ernie Els on that last swing
The. Big. Easy. Swing.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Kenneds should bomb some insurance.
I don’t trust a 3 run lead.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
Will a double do?
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009
FINE BY ME.
ElQuesoCapitan - May 19, 2009
I just got my network set up after moving to my new house
And I got to hear this innings. Sweet!
worldblee - May 19, 2009

thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
4-0
Save the runs for later, boys.
louismg - May 19, 2009
I love me some Adam Kennedy
He is our little assault rifle.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
does that mean I can start calling him AK-47?
Kallus - May 19, 2009
he's 47 years old, right? close enough
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
well done
you’ve filled in the blank. Nickname complete!
Kallus - May 19, 2009
YAY!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
Kennedy with the slegnA style hit
Goody
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Still not over.
Springer will make sure someone else in the pen gets a save opportunity.
iglew - May 19, 2009
You know it
I know it and Springer’s mates know it
Trainman - May 19, 2009
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
Wow, the wheels sure came off all of a sudden.
Not ours! For once.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
guys...ummm
we’re only up 4 runs..i’ll wait until 7 to breath easier
DyeLongJustice - May 19, 2009
GOOD POINT!
lynnzgal - May 19, 2009
My brother was amused by cheering for RyBear and RyRy last night.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009

ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009

rktse - May 19, 2009
Showing his Angels heritage yet again.
It cuts both ways.
iglew - May 19, 2009
Wasn't Barton supposed to double-clutch before throwing?
Nico - May 19, 2009
Hahaha
That was cute Kennedy, but no.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
damn, this guy's an alcoholic.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Everybody write a big thank-you note to Jason Bartlett after this game
we’d have nothing without him booting Cust’s groundout
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
Please tell me that Kennedy didn't get injured...
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
he looks hurt, fell on the bat
rktse - May 19, 2009
is that like falling on your sword?
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
Less lethal.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
How much of a delay is there with mlb.tv?
UncleLeo - May 19, 2009
If you have NexDef enabled it's quite substantial.
A batter or so I’d say.
OldhamA - May 19, 2009
At best.
An inning or more at worst.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
I'm glad the mexican buffet isn't the only way the A's get runs tonight.
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
But not from Eric Chavez's buffet
iglew - May 19, 2009
not mexican enough
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
he's the Diet Coke of Mexican.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
he's the margerine of Mexican
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
he's the aspertame of Mexican.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
He's the pleather of Mexican.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
he's the pressboard of Mexican.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
He's the splenda of Mexican
…wait, Splenda is good. He’s the Sweet’n’Low of Mexican
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
he's not Mexican enough.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
Guys- I'm telling ya. This is the turning point of our season
until the next losing streak.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Shouldn't be putting in Gio?
How are we going to get it to the 12th?
Nico - May 19, 2009
Nah, Gio only gets 120-pitch appearances in relief.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
I was at that game
Gio was still in mid 90s after 100 pitches.
Mike Moore Batting Cleanup - May 19, 2009
and then immediately gets shipped back to Sacramento.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
He didn't deserve to be
Mike Moore Batting Cleanup - May 19, 2009

Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
DOH!
LoneStranger - May 19, 2009
Here it comes...
worldblee - May 19, 2009
Oh good.
Springer wants more baseball.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
well, there's one back.
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009
What a sack of garbage this guy is
Springer is simply terrible
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Easy to call how bad he is
Everything is BP
Trainman - May 19, 2009
Hmmm...would-be walkoff
now i’m nervous.
DaSwinginA's - May 19, 2009

Well, actually, yes.

That didn't take long
kapers - May 19, 2009
Russ needs to change his middle name to FAIL
he’s blown saves before…

He is CREATING a save situation.

You dare blow this lead.

thats a funnylooking K
rktse - May 19, 2009
Why do we need to have an aging terrible reliever every year?
This year Springer, last year was Embree. Any idea who it will be next year?
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
hoffman
rktse - May 19, 2009
Can we convince Mitch Williams to come out of retirement?
GreenNGoldSooner - May 19, 2009
He taught Braden the cutter. Lay off my man Springy
Nico - May 19, 2009
Fine.
Embree was terrible.
thesteve9x - May 19, 2009
Springer is not terrible.
Rocktopus - May 19, 2009
I hope you are right but I have no confidence in him.
Seems like our new Embree throwing from the other side.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Go back to the almost certain 3 run homer than Sweeney took away in Texas
and work back from there and you will See Springer is pitching like Dana Eveland from the right side.
Trainman - May 19, 2009
I don't know about that.
Yeah, his BABIP is high, higher than he’s used to, but his FIP (which doesn’t have any effects from BABIP at all) is almost two runs higher than his ERA. Plus, his xFIP (FIP with a normalized home run rate) is a tad higher than his regular FIP. He’s actually doing better than average with respect to HRs and flyouts.
danmerqury - May 19, 2009
He might be doing better than average.
Rocktopus - May 19, 2009
It's OK, he's just making it interesting.
We’ll still win. That’s why we got the four insurance runs.
iglew - May 19, 2009

ak_A - May 19, 2009
Boomer Sooner
I’m originally from Oklahoma City and those red shirts are ubiquitous there! I deliberately went on a shopping trip to find an OU shirt that didn’t have football or red on it. I found nice green OU shirt with a recycling logo on it.
Jackson23 - May 19, 2009

SwisherThresher - May 19, 2009
he was a Cap'n?
Leopold Bloom - May 19, 2009

ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
Damian Miller?
iglew - May 19, 2009
Yep.
He was left off the official World Series photo of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Talk about a powerful union. Obama couldn’t break it up if he tried.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
wasn't TLong a scab too?
cityplANner - May 19, 2009
All I know about T-Long is that he had one of the most
amazing catches I’ve ever seen and he let strike two go by in the playoffs. I have blocked out everything else.
ohtobe21likehuston - May 19, 2009
I don't think so.
He’s not old enough. Strike was when? 1994? T Long’s rookie year was 1999. He’d have been a pretty young scab.
I think Shane Spencer is another, though.
iglew - May 19, 2009
+ Kevin Millar and Brendan Donnelly
Thanks, Wikipedia.
iglew - May 19, 2009
