SoCal AN Day - First of Many

Img_1635_medium

Judging by the record amount of comments in last night's game thread, most of AN watched the game, so you know it was great! (And obviously AN didn't miss the 80+ people that were with us last night at Angels' Stadium!)

This game was fun, if not a wee bit stressful, as young Cahill made his major league debut in front of a sold-out crowd in Southern California.

I was at the game Monday night as well, and I obviously was wearing the wrong shirt; so I called up a little mojo from up north, and last night wore the shirt I literally stole off a random fan's back during a Coliseum visit. (That random fan turned out to be Wes7, whom I met years later!)

(I will let other ANers label themselves in this thread).

This picture was right about when we learned that Holliday would not be starting the game, and we wondered if we could muster up more than three hits, and actually score a run. Three innings into the game, we were still wondering.

Before the game, I wanted to find Cahill and show him my patented K-Hill cheer, but it looks like he already knows it! Give me a "K"!

Here is a shot of K-Hill on the mound. As you know, he never looked overly comfortable out there, but he does get points for holding the Angels to single runs, and avoiding the big innings.

The game was going along swimmingly, if not a little stressful, when this happened:

Cust_medium

Yeah. He was heckled.

But somehow the A's made it to the ninth inning with a lead, even after this:

The Angels didn't stand a chance against our closer, and the nasty stuff he showed during his last two batters:

And now...what you've been waiting for. Let's meet some SoCal AN fans!

(These are pictures from the first group; note to self: when planning an event in the future, it is good to be able to a) know where your other group is by not leaving the seat map at home and b) have a game that you can actually travel around the stadium without worrying that your starting pitcher will give up four runs at any time, so you can't take your eyes off him for an instant!)

That shirt is fantastic.

Does the other one say “Chicks dig the longball”

Also fantastic.

It did! Both shirts are awesome :-)
That *is* a damn nice shirt, BBG :-)

And Zigfan’s is pretty great too. Giambizombie should recruit the two of you to help design the next round of AN swag.

I LOVE the shirt...thank YOU!
Its Fantastic!

“Shut up shirt” – Jose Mourinho

I wondered where the Left field AN group was

just not enought to wander around and ask the A’s fans scattered throughout the section who was part of the group and who wasn’t.

the TV telecast Monday night focused on

an A’s fan with a full black beard — obviiously not one of the fans you took photos of…

Great game, I'd love to do this again.

Between the “Let’s go Oakland” chants and heckling Bobby Abreu, I had a great time meeting everyone. I think Jack smirked a bit when I yelled out that he was my fantasy sleeper pick this year, haha.

Cool pics BBG

We kicked some Halo butt last night!

Where's RevHalo?
Just added the scoreboard pic...thank you anon user! :-)
I see me!

1st pic, wearing a jacket, a thumb, and a smile :)

Thanks so much for your time and hard work to set it all up BBG! It was awesome getting to sit in a big group of green and gold to cheer on our A’s.

Even if I jinxed things by yelling out to Cust that he was a Gold Glover after he made that sweet catch in the 1st… my bad!

Let’s do this again soon guys… and don’t forget about San Diego in June!

Great Pics, especially the 'Special K' one
Of all the cool things to read on a scoreboard

A’s 6, Angels 4 after nine tops it, but… “Athletics Nation” on the Anaheim Stadium jumbotron/diamondvision is priceless.

But the Carlson Clan bugs me..

..didn’t know we had a clan and worse that we attended Angels games, or worse still that we went to an out of town A’s game and no one told me.

Awesome pix

Thanks for representing and the great photos. “Let’s Go” cheers are much better in large groups

Looks like a great group!

Now I’m really bummed that I couldn’t go. I’ll definitely try to take a day off to go to the next so-cal event.

Go A’s!

WOOHOO! thanks for organizing all of this (again!) I look forward to more socal AN meet-ups :D

Nice pics

I’m jealous i couldn’t have been there to join everyone who went.

Awesome stuff here

Even if the close-up shot only serves to further emphasize my enormous head.

REPRESENT!

BBG is always smiling! Thanks for wearing the green and gold in enemy territory

Of course she is,

She’s at an A’s game…or something A’s baseball related!
Thanks for getting so many SoCal A’s fans together…hope you do it again and again.
I may join you for the last weekend road trip in September.
Deja vu all over again.

Very very nice!!
Carlson may have brought a clan, cornerstone, a church, and Corona, a whole city,

but the Athletics brought a Nation!

Good job of reppin’, BBG!

The shirts are really awesome.

We heard you, last night, you know. On the television.

Really!?!?!?
I'd have to say yes....

assuming you guys were responsible for the, “Lets go Oakland” chant in the background. I’m surprised that Ray didn’t send you guys out some love from the broadcasters booth. He’s a hometown sort of guy, so I’m going to assume he didn’t know that there was an AN contingent present.

By the way, he would make an excellent AN interview. Why don’t you use your considerable influence and see if that can be arranged? Blez lives close by to you, and it would be so much easier for you to stalk him down rather than have Nico or Taj drive from up north. Couldn’t hurt to have Ray giving AN some props from the booth on occasion.

drK and me heard you in the eighth,

when the Slegna was very quiet, for some reason.

It was after Ry hit one out their way,

wasn’t it?

yuppers.

sho nuff.

(locals are wearing off on me…must…think about…the Saag’s…think…about the…Saag’s…with the peppers and…the onions…)

For some reason

I always think about Saag’s.

The entire city of Corona went to the game?
There's an entire city of Corona!?
Will Be at entire San Diego series..

Go A’s

Bummed to have missed it,

but it looks like y’all had a great time. It was a great game to see on TV in LA (NO HUDLER!). Let me point out my bud Insomniac (with his brother?) in the 3rd pic from the bottom. I’m moving to Ithaca, NY this summer — a true geographical oddity — exactly 5 hours drive from all the closest ballparks (Toronto, NYC, Philly, etc). So I’ll be IthacaXile.

Not only do I have trouble remembering stuff

but now I cant sleep either? lol

Ithaca:

Where fun goes to die.

I applied there once. They rejected me a little less quickly than Vanderbilt. I blame my essay.

So, I guess I'm either dead, or not much fun...
one might guess both.

I dunno, oblique—every conference I’ve ever been to, the Ithaca crowd always seems straight off the set of a Ingmar Bergman film. It’s cold and bitter and there’s lots of silent, sullen stares and cigarettes.

Is this the place...

that manufactures the shotgun by the same name?

no, that's Cedar Point.
Somehow,

I’m disappointed that the people you describe aren’t the ones making the shotgun.

It seems like they should, huh?

agrd.

Not a bad guess

Are we talking specifically about Ithaca College, or the whole town and Cornell as well? The IC crowd, I can see that — I always just figured that they fancied themselves the downtrodden artist type.

Actually, I was talking about Cornell only.

I don’t know that I’ve ever met anyone happy to be at Cornell. Could’ve been my field, perhaps.

and it might also be sour grapes.

As I said, they basically could not reject me fast enough.

It's a good point

When I was there it seemed like I was the only one who chose to be there, rather than it being a backup school for Harvard or MIT.

Well, I guess I’m an outlier. I thought it was great and loved my time there!

bummer -- I was hoping to find another ANer out there...
Sorry! I'm a bit stoopid. At least I got the -iac part right
Fatality at game

Sorry for the bum news but according to the paper a few fans got into a fight last night and one of them died in the hospital from head trauma this afternoon.

Two 25-30 year old men were in a fight last night after the game (somewhere in RF bleachers) and a friend of one of the men hit one of the combatants in the back of the head. The man later died in the hospital.

correction

fight was on Monday night (during the game)

And happy birthday Beverly Gallardo....

Just Kidding…that was freakin awesome seeing y’all at the game and getting AN up on the big screen….Makes me proud to blog along with so many good looking A’s Fans!! Go Oakland!!

And the poor timing award of the year goes to....!
Overall great game

had fun cheering along with all of you although I didn’t put any faces to names… I’ll be at the next one as well!
