It's Brett Anderson vs. Matt Cain at the Oakland Coliseum today, backed by about 20 AN faithfuls and hopefully a few other fans as well. I'm at the game with my volunteer bretheren, so I'll count on someone to post the lineups. The game recap might be a tad late today, so please hang in there...

Anybody know if this game is going to be on TV?
I’ve been spoiled the last two days.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
If it is on tv today..
It’s not on any of the usual stations. I was looking forward to relaxing and watching the game, but I guess I’ll settle for listening to it.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
It's not on mlb.tv so I figure not.

Familiar line up
It looks like Geren has settled on a line-up, at least for the beginning of the season.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
Gameday Link
Here
athleticsBB4life - April 4, 2009
Whoa
Did gameday add some features?
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
Yeah a bunch
Is that a speedometer?
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Yeah..
it was pretty crappy last night tho. Had Eveland’s average Fastball at like 83mph.
Syphon - April 4, 2009
Hmm
I guess they still have some bugs. Looks like it would be pretty cool if they can get it to work right though.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
they have a new gameday premium
it’s just a preview, it will cost $19.95 for a year I think after the preview.
micdog2001 - April 4, 2009
Anyone watch Yankees v Cubs today?
Hardens FB hit 90 maybe 3 times.
Syphon - April 4, 2009
His spring hasn't gone very well.
NateHST - April 4, 2009
I saw him get hit into the bleachers a few times.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Somebody needs to sit Brett Anderson down and talk about his facial hair.
NateHST - April 4, 2009
2 up 2 down
Nice start.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
anderson hitting 94

Very Nice.
Syphon - April 4, 2009
3 up 3 down
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Got Pablo swingin'
Not bad, but I can’t believe Sandoval actually took 3 pitches for balls.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
His stats look amazing.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
10 pitch inning
I like that.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Sweeney single
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Legs!
Running A’s
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Sweeney steals second
Nice.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
no tv i take it?
Walton711 - April 4, 2009
I can't believe that there's no TV for two of the three A's/Giants exhibition games
And the one that was shown was on the A’s channel.
I mean, wouldn’t A’s/Giants games, even exhibition games, still garner pretty decent ratings?
Zonis - April 4, 2009
I'd watch
Better than listening, but I’ll take what I can get.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
I'm pretty sure they were on tv this time last year.
I was expecting it to be on, especially when I logged on this evening and saw about 5 games being shown on mlb.tv.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Holliday first bomb today?
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Holliday walks
Dem bags loaded
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
2 straight walks for Cain
Bases loaded for Chavez
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Bases Jammed
I’m liking the lineup for today!
brian.only - April 4, 2009
might want to throw some strikes
Walton711 - April 4, 2009
Bases Loaded, 1 out...
DON’T GIDP CHAVY!
Zonis - April 4, 2009
Finally
Someone else’s pitcher can’t throw strikes.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
down the middle to
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Love it coaching visit in the first inning...
brian.only - April 4, 2009
22 pitches and counting..
Ouch.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
I thought Sandoval was a bad defensive 3B, not a Catcher
Zonis - April 4, 2009
If you thought he was bad at third,
just wait til you see him catch!
Leopold Bloom - April 4, 2009
Apparently he's a converted catcher.
They expect him to backup at catcher this season when required.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
WALK
1-0 A’s!
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
good ab chavey
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Ha- not a good day for Cain
wonder if he’s OK?
brian.only - April 4, 2009
14 Balls, 11 strikes??
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Make that 16 balls
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009

most of time high 90’s
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Chavvy walks
Run forced.

ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Wow, Cain can't hit the zone
Zonis - April 4, 2009
Can I has UPPER CUST plz?
Zonis - April 4, 2009
has Cust K'd yet?
Zonis - April 4, 2009
Just did
Swinginz
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Yeah what's that all about?
I’m used to him watching strike three.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Yep
Just did.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
yup
brian.only - April 4, 2009
yep
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
I know it's just ST
But when was the last time we had 4 players batting over .300?
Danwise134 - April 4, 2009
I think the angels have all 9 players over .300
Walton711 - April 4, 2009
i found only 2 players to hit over 300 for the a's and that was 1988
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Last years spring training.
KMoAsFan - April 4, 2009
who were they?
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Zooks K's
1-0 A’s after 1
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Zooks K'd
THIS IS OUR OFFENSE.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
It looks like we're back not swinging again...
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Strickouts make the pitcher work.
It’s all part of the master plan.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
To get someone out of the pen so we can shake him up?
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
more LOB's....
36 pitches might be a short day for Cain.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
ARGH!!!
Zonis - April 4, 2009
Damn, Cain was able to strike out the side while walking three batters.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Sounds like Rich Harden.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Or Zito
good zito at least.
Bad Zito would give up a GS too.
MobiusKlein - April 4, 2009
Dang, Ellis bobbled the potential double play and he was charged with an error.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Unicorn made an error.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Get it out of his system before the season starts
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
He's not allowed to make errors.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Anderson pitching well
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Revenge strikeout
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
ive always thought Anderson was ready
but cahill scares me
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
I still don't that they're in the majors, but yeah
Anderson seems more ready for the bigs than Cahill at the moment.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
In play outs.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Nice, Anderson was able to get out of the situation.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Mr. Anderson delivers.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Out of the inning
I’m liking this Anderson kid. I can’t believe he’s younger than I am.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
I think the new features for gameday need some more work
Matt Downs
Loves to face: Four Seam
Hates to face: Four Seam
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
I was chuckling about that yesterday too.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Buck stricks.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
I hope Cain's not catching his stride.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Does anyone know A's batting average with RISP in ST?
javaball - April 4, 2009
Ellis Walks
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
HAHAHA
It’s become such a habit to talk about Cust striking out, that Ray accidently called Buck, Cust when he struck out.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
that is funny
javaball - April 4, 2009
I chuxxored.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
LOL
walkoff baltimore chop - April 4, 2009
Ryan Sweeney: In play out(s)
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009

thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Just logged on. What’d I miss?
walkoff baltimore chop - April 4, 2009
Cabrera flies out to center
Inning over, A’s 1-0 After 2.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Pitched half his game in 2 innings...
Not looking good for a #2.
4K, 4B???
brian.only - April 4, 2009
but the A's could not capitalize
javaball - April 4, 2009
K!
3-pitch strikout!
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
McBryde strikes out on three pitches.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Downs follows suit.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Back-to-back K's!
3 straight for Torres also!
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Torres strikes out on three as well.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Anderson Owning!
Lot of 1’st pitch stricks
brian.only - April 4, 2009
In play: No out.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Cabrera’s throw was off-line on a tough play and it’ll go as an infield hit for Velez.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Weird to see a catcher in the 3 spot.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Sandoval is a monster...
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Moar singles.
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
In play: out(s)
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Anderson is out of the inning again as Chavez makes the catch.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Ishikawa out
3 outs, well played Anderson, well played.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
i wish the game was on mlb tv so i could see anderson pitch
i haven’t seen him yet.
SoCalA'sFan - April 4, 2009
Good start
Anderson: 35 pitches, 26 strikes, 9 balls.
Me likey
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
Anderson's line so far:
3 IP 3 H 4 SO
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Anderson's MLB photo shows a veteran face.
javaball - April 4, 2009
Cain still looks like a rookie
javaball - April 4, 2009
Lincecum looks like a teenager now.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
I'll admit. I LOL'd.
walkoff baltimore chop - April 4, 2009
He needs a hair cut.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
I wonder who he's taking to Prom..
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Cain is the most inefficient strike out pitcher ever.
5 K’s 4 BB and 56 pitches in 2.1 innings
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
That's because he's too busy being
[/steal]

ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
He still reminds me of Harden in that regard.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
I wonder what happened to Harden in ST, ERA over 10?
javaball - April 4, 2009
Oh c'mon it's Rich Harden, he's almost certainly hiding an injury.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Cain breezed by in the third inning.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
According to the new Gameday
Everyone has a Love-Hate relationship with the 4-seam Fastball
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
That's not true, Sweeney has a love-hate relationship with the changeup.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Well everyone loves to hate the pitch they hate to love..
or something..
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
It's probably because they only started using it today/yesterday
and everyone has got out to and hit a fastball (or changeup in Sweeney’s case). I’m sure it’ll sort itself out as the season progresses.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
I though they would have loaded the historical data already.
javaball - April 4, 2009
Did they just say that they FINALLY have a new scoreboard?!
Zonis - April 4, 2009
2 up 2 down already
Loving this.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
3 up 3 down
Woo.
thesteve9x - April 4, 2009
Three quick outs for Anderson
ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Anderson only needed eight pitches to record the outs in the inning.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Love it Bretts averaging under 11 pitch shutout innings through 4
brian.only - April 4, 2009
Lol, listening the Giants radio on the way home
They were discussing going over to the A’s booth to see if they could make a trade to get Anderson.
worldblee - April 4, 2009
I'd take Sandoval for starters.
And that highly rated catching prospect they have in the minors.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Seems like Cust is due for a bomb.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
or not.
brian.only - April 4, 2009

ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009

worldblee - April 4, 2009

ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Base Hit by the Pillow
Zonis - April 4, 2009
Ellis tagged Downs between first and second, but was unable to get McBryde.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Starting to get worried about the offense
greala - April 4, 2009
A's infielders all batting under .200, except Cabrera.
javaball - April 4, 2009
The gameday feature is pretty cool
What is Anderson’s pitching repitwar is? I see change, fastball, curve slider I’m wondering if he throws a 2 seamer or a cutter or stuff like that
Athletic - April 4, 2009
The Giants have runners on the corners with one away.

ElQuesoCapitan - April 4, 2009
Get Forst off the air
He’s obviously jinxing Anderson.
worldblee - April 4, 2009
Sandoval’s single has scored Torres from second base.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Sandoval is hitting .500 in his last 17 games.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
I will be glad when we don't have to pitch to him anymore
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
Ishikawa struck out looking and the Giants have a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
Most of the hits off Anderson are groundball singles
javaball - April 4, 2009
Ramon Ortiz is pitching for the Giants, by the way.
Rated-R Superstar - April 4, 2009
I wonder how the veterans on the team can play the leadership role if they can't deliver at the plate.
javaball - April 4, 2009
so why did we get holliday again
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Jeez.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
Are you thinking of anyone in particular?
worldblee - April 4, 2009
Bay
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
wow, its ST
come on…
ChadGod - April 4, 2009
yea look at every other superstar and have killed the ball
He better have a good year if he wants to get payed
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Sorry to say chadgod, season starts monday
spring training is over my brotha
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
And that's when we'll start judging the hitting of the vets
Their only concern in ST is to get in shape, stay healthy, and see enough pitches that they feel ready. It’s the young guys who have to perform in ST to make the team, so they have different priorities.
worldblee - April 4, 2009
i guess when you watch josh hamilton all the time i guess i want more out of him
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
Josh Hamilton has to prove himself in every at bat,
he’s wasted his career thusfar. Holliday, Giambi et al have done nothing but hit, they have nothing to prove in ST.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
I think Holliday is slightly more concerned about that than you are.
Hopefully
ChadGod - April 4, 2009
im concered cause we need him big this year
I think hes superstar but just hasnt been playing like it thats all. Jason bay willl be in oakland next year and holliday in boston mark it down
buckfan6 - April 4, 2009
If today's lineup is official... I don't like it.
Why should Cust be batting behind Chavez?
brenarlo - April 4, 2009
Sure... then Chavez goes and does that!!!!
brenarlo - April 4, 2009
Let's see if Cust can make B2B
worldblee - April 4, 2009

6.2 ininings, 6 hits, 2 runs (unless the walk scores), 1 BB, 5 K’s.
not bad
micdog2001 - April 4, 2009
I'll take it
Lets hope the rest can post these kind of lines.
brian.only - April 4, 2009
So lets say that Bailey makes the team
add him along with Cahill and Anderson, who gets dropped from the 40 man roster? There’s 1 slot already open.
Zonis - April 4, 2009
I
Zonis - April 4, 2009
I'd DFA Jeff Gray, and either give Copeland back or put him on the 60 day DL
then again, there’s no room for Copeland.
Zonis - April 4, 2009
I agree that Gray or Copeland could go
micdog2001 - April 4, 2009
What's the status on Duke?
Has he had his surgery yet? Have they figured out what exactly is wrong with him? Has a timetable been set?
So many questions. I think his prognosis could have an effect on the 40-man roster situation.
OkayJay81 - April 4, 2009
He had his surgery; they won't know anything for a few weeks
I don’t think a timetable has been established yet.
worldblee - April 4, 2009
He had surgery, they didn't find anything wrong just cleaned out some loose bodies.
OldhamA - April 4, 2009
removed a bone spur?
i thought I read that, maybe not.
micdog2001 - April 4, 2009
I don't think so, just loose bodies.
Which obviously tells us that his elbow is fcuked.
