Wow, what a long first inning as the A's have 84 runs in with still only one out. OK, I pre-wrote this before the game started but it's probably accurate. I'm at the game and will have the recap up about an hour after last pitch.

i hope we save some offense for the next few games

Walking Nomar
NO DP Kurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trainman - April 26, 2009
You guys do know, this should be thread number 3, there is another empty one below
this one.
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
That was just a copy of the first, for some reason.
I could actually get rid of it.
Flashfire - April 26, 2009
You should probably do that to avoid confusion
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
Done
Flashfire - April 26, 2009
Did Fosse say the uniform manager's name was Cliff Clavin?
Rocktopus - April 26, 2009
His name is Cliff, but his last name isn't Clavin, I believe.
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
Oh, maybe I heard what I wanted to hear.
Because that would be awesome.
Rocktopus - April 26, 2009
He did say Cliff Clavin, I think that is a nickname
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
If so, he'll always be where everybody knows his name!
GreenNGoldSooner - April 26, 2009
Nico, you must have a laptop
and a wifi signal at the game (how geeky!)….since we all know that mobile posting is not yet available for AN
OaklandSi - April 26, 2009
The nice thing for those of us with game thread capabilities...
…is we can set a specific time for a post to go up.
Makes it a lot easier to have a feature or something like that run at a particular time as well.
Flashfire - April 26, 2009
very cool
OaklandSi - April 26, 2009
Short leash
Very good move
Trainman - April 26, 2009
needs to be a damn choke chain, walking people with a 6 run lead.
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
Pitchers walk folks with the bases already loaded
it happens, you know.
MobiusKlein - April 26, 2009
Good thing I have these game threads to educate me.
Based on today’s performance I never would have guessed how much Eveland sucks.

blind squirrel nut, clock right twice, and other cliches on rarity

What the heck was Ellis swinging at to end the inning? Disappointing :-(

Nice job, Wuertzy.
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
Whew. That's better!
Nick - April 26, 2009
Kurt's new chest protector bothers me.
I don’t like the random yellow shoulder pad. It should be all green.
And yes, this is a very important issue.
whiteshoes40 - April 26, 2009
Can Corey Wimberly play catcher?
iglew - April 26, 2009
Too Oregon-ish for me
Looks like one of Nike’s horrible ideas.
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
agrd.
I’ll cc him on this.
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
I like the yellow.
OldhamA - April 26, 2009
Good Job Wuertz
Trainman - April 26, 2009
eveland didn't really help him out,
but he kept it from getting out of hand. w00t bullpen pitching.
mrbendy - April 26, 2009
Not a big fan of this year's commercials...
“He didn’t just play the game. He put the game in a headlock.”
What does that even mean? It’s just silly.

I like the "we're gettin the band back together"

ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
The one with Giambi and BB's pretty good...
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
But I agree.
putting a headlock on the game makes no sense.

ElQuesoCapitan - April 26, 2009
Outfield adventures of Buckaroo Bonsai
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
actually it's not an adventure -- and that's a good thing
OaklandSi - April 26, 2009
Not a Cust-level adventure, anyhow.
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
Buck takes the worst routes to the ball since Byrnes, it is always an adventure
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
but compared to Cust he doesn't raise the "adventure" tag
OaklandSi - April 26, 2009
Yeah he broke back on that ball before running forwards towards it.
OldhamA - April 26, 2009
Nice 1-2-3 inning there
Trainman - April 26, 2009
Wuertz doing a nice job today.
ERA looking impressive.
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
i hope dana was paying attention.
6 outs on 16 pitches.
eveland averaged more than 16 pitches per inning
stm72 - April 26, 2009
Unfortunately Dana is what he is
and I don’t see that changing much
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
true and that's why today is more flukish than par for him
stm72 - April 26, 2009
Buck reminds me of Byrnes out there,
Only Buck doesn’t usually make the amazing catch after the initial misjudgement…
tosk - April 26, 2009
but he does unnecessarily get the uniform dirty from time to time
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
and I can't help
loving him for that..

GreenNGoldSooner - April 26, 2009
In that "Crosby and the A's take on Kinsler and the Rangers" commercial,
they show Blanton pitching. Really? Because we don’t have video of any other pitchers that are currently on the team facing the Rangers?
whiteshoes40 - April 26, 2009
I think the same guys that made my calendar made that commercial.
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
but this year isnt as bad as years past!
I think more than half of the guys are still on the team.
tosk - April 26, 2009
You don't see 4 guys chasing the same pop up very often
ohtobe21likehuston - April 26, 2009
not above the pee wee level.
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
yeah, the 2nd baseman was in center field, he played so deep
theblackpearl - April 26, 2009
can someone tell me why hannahan is in for nomar? injury or just late-inning sub?
nateinberkeley - April 26, 2009
probably defense sub.

AV - April 26, 2009
Maybe Snoop
was my favorite…
I dunno. It’s either Snoop or Wee Bay. Or Chris.
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
bodie
nobody ever says bubbles, but he was mr. 1st season. wallace was 1st season jr. snoop was an awesome, natural addition. slim just because. bunny c. paltrow. prezbo and carver. wee bay but even more after you meet his wife! omar and ziggy steal every scene they’re in, especially if in a silk robe or with a duck. but yeah, bodie. he had the nuanced character thing going, frustrations you could ID with, some amount of development, plus he could spit between his teeth. then again, i even liked string, prop joe, kenard, frank sobotka, dukie, and the illustrious mr. fuzzy dunlop.
but the question nobody wants to deal with… for a character driven show, how did they hang 5 seasons of great drama from the arc of such a unsympathetic 1st role, so badly acted? i mean, mcnutty just suuuuucks, don’t you agree?
AV - April 26, 2009
maybe poorly acted
(but I think that’s harsh), but he’s not entirely unsympathetic. Most people know someone who’s way too smart for his own good, someone who drinks way too much and someone who cannot let sleeping dogs lie. Some of us are those individuals.
But…I think you could also seriously make the argument that the arc does not belong to McNutty. He may be the thread, but the arc belongs to the city, no?
But Bodie rocked too, no doubt. And Omar’s Hispanic boyfriend was surprising present in his scenes—“No Honey Nut?”
Leopold Bloom - April 26, 2009
About McNulty
When you put it like that, it’s kinda surprising that they didn’t show him posting on AN game threads while he was waiting for a hit from one of the pagers.
Also, I just need to add Valchek to the list of favorite characters. He’s like the essence of what’s wrong with BPD (and thus, to Simon and Burns, everything), but you can’t help loving him anyway.
Nick - April 26, 2009
I liked Nicky too.
