I know the guy is hitting like crap, but he is a vet and will still look at plenty of pitches. We need to put the guys who see a ton of pitches at the top of the lineup right now and tire out these SP who are killing us
1. Ellis – vet, sucks but will still take plenty of pitches
2. Cust – see a ton of pitches
3. Holliday – best hitter or at least I thought
4. Giambi – again see a ton of pitches
5. O Cab – could actually drive in some runs at this spot in the lineup.
6. Suzuki – solid
7. Sweeney – we need to take some pressure off this guy NOW – or he will turn horrible on us
8. Chavez – really is just horrible
9. Buck – play the guy geren you moron.
In 2009, Mark Ellis has seen an average of 3.30 pitches per at bat.
Orlando Cabrera = 3.44
Ryan Sweeney = 4.03
Ellis’s career numbers are higher than Cabrera’s, by about a third of a pitch more, and about even with Sweeney’s. If Ellis should be hitting higher than Cabrera or Sweeney, I think it has more to do with OBP and power than with pitches seen.
Anyone remember that opening series against the Angels?
We were all so excited about the opportunity to watch this offense and the prospect the team would never be out of games with the likes of Nomah, Holliday, Cust, and Giambi batting together.
I don’t know if anybody’s posted this, but here are Holliday’s career platoon splits:
vs. LHP – .299/.385/..497
vs. RHP – .324/.384/.563
He’s actually been better against RHPs over his career—not drastic but after 2,700 plate appearances, it looks like it’s not really a fluke.
This team’s really not built to do that well against lefties—and we just faced several in a row. Hopefully when we face more righties, Giambi, Cust, Chavez, Sweeney will all play up to their abilities.
We got something for him at least. Detroit’s the one that dumped him. He was at least three or four years away. And while it’s depressing to think what if we would’ve held onto him, we would’ve had the equivalent of Barton playing first for four seasons. He was pretty fricking horrible when he was with us and he was horrible for the two r three years he was in Detroit.
I can't believe I'm still watching this on my Friday night.

I guess we can stop now
Scored out requisite 2 runs
cuppingmaster - April 24, 2009
Doubled the score!
doctorK - April 24, 2009
Can someone make a summary
of the frustrations and rage towards Eric Chavez today.
I’m smelling he gets the DL again in order to “protect” him
ATarHeel - April 24, 2009
Was Ellis limping a bit walking back to the dugout?
Jackson23 - April 24, 2009

cyke17 - April 24, 2009
That hit by Sweeney got our OBP to .301
and doubled the score
Trainman - April 24, 2009
Still holding out hope for Option G from the first thread poll.
Or better yet, option H where they win!!!
Jackson23 - April 24, 2009
Holliday's first HR coming this inning?
brenarlo - April 24, 2009
I was feeling the same thing.
KMoAsFan - April 24, 2009
That's just the heartburn.
LoneStranger - April 24, 2009
Shit, I'll take a base hit from him at this point in the game
Jackson23 - April 24, 2009
A Holliday HR is like the mythical Bigfoot
franks a lot - April 24, 2009
Except Bigfoot is real.
LoneStranger - April 24, 2009
Real blurry.
NateHST - April 24, 2009
Anybody?
NateHST - April 24, 2009
Mitch Hedburg?
Rocktopus - April 24, 2009
Hell yeah!
There’s a large out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. And that’s extra scary to me.
NateHST - April 24, 2009
Blurry is beneficial to his survival.
LoneStranger - April 24, 2009
didn't we just do this hedberg joke a few days ago?
xbhaskarx - April 24, 2009
I was unaware of such happenings.
However, AN will never have too much Mitch.
NateHST - April 24, 2009

Jackson23 - April 24, 2009
It will be delivered back to Oakland wrapped in the Shroud of Turin

Leopold Bloom - April 24, 2009
No "Sister Ray"?

big single bass drum like the beginning of Venus in Furs. Then it morphed into Factory, but for a minute there, i was anticipating Cale’s Violin…

franks a lot - April 24, 2009
It actually is - I don't understand why, after a 14 inning game,
they wouldn’t wait a couple days to send him down just in case…this happened.
Nico - April 24, 2009
Because they lack the intelligence of the average AN poster?
ohtobe21likehuston - April 24, 2009
Sometimes, the decisions made by the A's are baffling
Namely their unwillingness to use the DL, opting instead to be short a man or two.
franks a lot - April 24, 2009
It's like they overanalyze when it's a common sense type of decision
ohtobe21likehuston - April 24, 2009

60% of team HRs

walk-off homer

FoolshGame22 - April 24, 2009
I think that would require extra innings.

Well, walk-off something anyway.

It’s hard to stay down on the ball.

LoneStranger - April 24, 2009
does Carlos Pena have more HR's than...
the entire A’s team?
Just askin’…
Way to dump a guy, Billy.
FoolshGame22 - April 24, 2009
Dude,
We got something for him at least.
Leopold Bloom - April 24, 2009
8 HR's to the A's total of 5 as a team...
LOL
The worst start in A’s history. Tied for 2nd… 6 in 2007 and 2008. I sense a trend.
FoolshGame22 - April 24, 2009
sheesh...
I’m waiting for the Barton callup any day now. If not him, then Doolittle. Something, please, Billy.
This is pathetic!
FoolshGame22 - April 24, 2009
Pathetic starts at the top

Trainman - April 24, 2009
