Well, the trophy comes back to the American League with the Yankees win tonight. The Bronx Bombers take home their 27th World Championship after a rather disappointing game six. Hideki Matsui drove in six runs as Pettitte outlasted Pedro in the dubious pitching duel; the final score was 7-3. There isn't much left to say about Mariano Rivera that hasn't already been said, but wow, does he still look good at 40!
So ends the baseball season of 2009. Here's to 2010!

Took 'em long enough to finally buy another title
Flashfire - November 4, 2009
It did take a while
baseballgirl - November 4, 2009
Agree...

My exact thoughts
HRH - November 4, 2009
Didn't Matsui drive in 6 runs?
OaklandSi - November 4, 2009 via mobile
According to the post game (I had to see who got MVP)
tied with Bobby Richardson 1960 WS
BERRYJO - November 4, 2009
Two of them were credited to Jeter's aura.
Nico - November 4, 2009
lol
winchester5 - November 4, 2009
Yes, you are right....
…haha, that’s even better! :-)

Yankee Opinion
I can take the Yankees being the World Champions. What is difficult for me to swallow is the blathering from some pundits that the Yankees victory is good for baseball. How’s that? Pee Ueew!
Graybeard - November 4, 2009
Wow!!!! The Yankees won the world series!!!!!!
I can’t imagine a more boring result of a major league baseball season.
King Richard - November 4, 2009
Rec'd
Syphon - November 4, 2009
What if the yankees were to have swept the phillies?
winchester5 - November 4, 2009
Well, hopefully in 2010
my beloved team won’t fall severely short of my hopes and expectations, I won’t ever wake up to learn that the opposing pitcher was killed, and the team I most loathe won’t win the World Series.
For one of the worst seasons I can remember, it sure was a lot of fun! Thanks to y’all.
Nico - November 4, 2009
There's an easy solution to the first item on your wishlist, there
lower expectations
bobnothing - November 4, 2009
I used that theory in college all the time...but not about baseball.
winchester5 - November 4, 2009
Wow......
people are still playing baseball?
s0sNe@kYbUtY? - November 4, 2009
absolutely
the worst title for an article in history, i never want to read that again
Twan54321 - November 4, 2009
Thanks to y'all for the great conversation threads, wonderful humor, and a great baseball education. On to 2010!

Congrats Bums …
I am conditioned to hate you from birth, doesn’t mean I can’t respect the win … especially for Swish …
angus hanger - November 4, 2009
Swish was pumped
Thought I wasn’t happy to see him tote around the Yankee flag with him. I guess he’s just trying to prove his colors.
420Sharksfan - November 4, 2009
Having met him ...
With my kids … what a class act. This guy took the time to stand there and talk to my kids whilst he was an A … my daughter still rants about it to this day. “Stay in school, do the best you can.” A parent can’t have that kind of influence on a child like their heros …
angus hanger - November 5, 2009
That's nice
lynnzgal, I can’t add you on Facebook when I don’t even know your email address. Throw me a bone and hook me up, eh?
Please.
[smiles] Ciao, all, I don’t hang around much in the off-season.
paradox - November 5, 2009
Fuck the Yankees.
But I love me some Swish. Glad to see he has a title.
But seriously. Damn Bankees.
Boonee - November 5, 2009
curse of the Giambino
is over. Dammit.
Brian in 317 - November 5, 2009
Fuck em.
mikev - November 5, 2009
Congrats Yankees!
Thank you for making all of Boston miserable this morning. They enjoy life more when they have something to bitch about.
Vacafan - November 5, 2009
Great
The team that picked up the two most expensive starting pitchers available in the winter beat the team that picked up the two most expensive starting pitchers available in the summer.
Very impressive, I’m sure.
richwol1 - November 5, 2009
In Cliff Lee's Case...
Expensive in terms of prospects.
richwol1 - November 5, 2009
BOO!
I’m happy for Swisher and Gaudin but that is about it.
micdog2001 - November 5, 2009
How much better are the Yanks going to be next year?
Add a few of Bay, Holliday, Chapman, Lackey and you are looking at an even better team then 2009
.
My guess is they will add Holliday, Lackey and maybe even Chapman. Gonna be scary good!
asfaninpismobeach - November 5, 2009
what was the last year the Y's didn't make the playoffs?
I don’t so much mind them winning as it always being the Yankees and 7 other teams.
MobiusKlein - November 5, 2009
2008.
67MARQUEZ - November 5, 2009
Ah, that's right
Though I read on the Joe Podanski (sp?) that it’s been every other year since 1995 that they have made it.
MobiusKlein - November 5, 2009
That is correct.
Who would have thunk that it would have been the Rays to help break that streak?
67MARQUEZ - November 6, 2009
There is no good here
Joey C. - November 5, 2009
maybe....no....
what about….no, not that, either….what if….no, that wouldn’t work…
yeah, you’re right, this is all-over suckiness.
Leopold Bloom - November 5, 2009
Come on guys
ANY BODY AND BUY A WORLD SERIES. COMPLETE BULL SHIT
Tambo45 - November 5, 2009

http://daringfireball.net/2009/11/the_yankees
