A pair of Chase Utley homeruns ties him with Reggie Jackson for most (5) in a single Series. Meanwhile, Cliff Lee does his best, well, Cliff Lee. Phillies in Phront 8-4.

Nice work by Manuel --
Make sure Lee throws enough pitches that there’s no way he can go in Game 7 — pitching when he’s tired enough (and wasn’t that sharp to begin with) to pitch badly while approaching 120 pitches.
and not how to set up for a fly ball, getting momentum as you catch it in order to make a strong throw? There wasn’t even need to hit a cutoff man because there were no other baserunners? Just get a running start and make a strong throw. Jeebus.
All it took for me was seeing my dad be hospitalized for diabetes-related complications to change my mind. Seeing him in the ICU for three weeks? And another 6 months of rehab? And still now two years later unable to get around like he used to? Make the change now while you can RRS.
So, Scott Eyre was up in the bullpen all inning why?
Apparently they wanted Posada to hit LH (fine), didn’t want the lefty-lefty matchup with Matsui (fine), didn’t want lefty-lefty matchup with Damon (why not?) and didn’t want to turn Teixeira around to bat RH (why not)?

Nico - November 2, 2009
To be fair, I don't think Manuel was gonna pitch him on two day's rest anyway.
danmerqury - November 2, 2009
probably not but now you can't even use him in relief for game 7
sirbed - November 2, 2009
Exactly. Game 7, all hands are on deck
Whether Lee starts and goes 6IP, or gives you ace relief in the 6th-8th, he’s your best pitcher.
Nico - November 2, 2009
he could pull a Randy Johnson
and come in for 3-4 if we get to a game 7
cuppingmaster - November 2, 2009
Dude, mid-inning new thread?
Hmmmmm……
gigglingone - November 2, 2009

Utely?
That’s a jinx, my friend.

How do you get to the major leagues
and not how to set up for a fly ball, getting momentum as you catch it in order to make a strong throw? There wasn’t even need to hit a cutoff man because there were no other baserunners? Just get a running start and make a strong throw. Jeebus.
Nico - November 2, 2009
Ask Cust on how he made it
sirbed - November 2, 2009
To be fair to Jack Cust
he mostly lacks the physical tools to be a mobile outfielder, rather than throwing in such an underpowered manner
bobnothing - November 2, 2009
wait you were taking what I wrote seriously?
I am not to be taken seriously in any way
sirbed - November 2, 2009
Ha, I guess you're right
bobnothing - November 2, 2009
Besides, Cust avoids the problems with throwing the ball
By making sure he rarely catches it.
worldblee - November 2, 2009
It was remarkably casual, wasn't it?
Almost like he wasn’t expecting there to be any play at the plate
bobnothing - November 2, 2009

BERRYJO - November 2, 2009
They HAVE pulled him out EVERY game and I think he's done nada - why keep doing it?????
BERRYJO - November 2, 2009
To set a World Series age record?
danmerqury - November 2, 2009
maybe.....is he the oldest active player???
BERRYJO - November 2, 2009
on either WS team, yes
I think Moyer takes it for oldest active player overall
cuppingmaster - November 2, 2009
Love him!
lynnzgal - November 2, 2009
Nah, that's Jamie Moyer.
That pitcher we were talking about before. I think he’s closer to 50 than 40.
danmerqury - November 2, 2009
That's correct. We're talking MPH, right?
