AN, I wanted to write to you tonight for two reasons. First, I wanted to let you know that I had a chance to interview Mr. Beane recently and I will be publishing the first part of that interview on Monday morning early. I figured what better way to go into the offseason than getting an overview of 2009 from the man himself. So don't forget to stop in.
The other thing that I wanted to bring up is the fact that SB Nation, the company that sprung up from Athletics Nation, is participating in it's first Donors Choose Social Media Challenge. If you're wondering what all that means, it essentially means that a bunch of online communities and blogs get together and try and make a difference in the lives of some underprivileged children near them. If you don't know much about Donors Choose, let me just share a bit about them quickly:
Here's how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.
Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that makes your eye twinkle. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.
You'll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you'll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.
At DonorsChoose.org, you can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions. We call it citizen philanthropy.
If you'd like to donate to help our some kids in Northern California schools (you can pick your own cause), go to the AN giving page and make a donation. Thank you so much in advance. There are a lot of needy kids out there that thank you as well. And as I mentioned SB Nation is doing this as a company, so we've already gotten started with a bunch of our other blogs. It'd be really nice to have AN show the rest of SBN who still rules this company.

Awesome idea Blez
And to make a totally shameless plug, my sister is a teacher, and she has a project on donorschoose.org.
Oooooh, and there are lots of projects if you search for “baseball”….

Looking forward to reading Mr. Beane's thoughts.
I hope you grilled him but good.
As for the school thing…it’s such a great idea. I can’t participate because I work for a school with needy children and a good part of our family charitable donations goes to the kids there. God Bless the program. I hope it gets a great response.

I thought you were writing to say "hi".
Whatever, Tyler. (ha)
Look forward to the BB interview, and love the Donors Choose idea.
Kudos.

I've given before through Donors Choose
It seems to work pretty well.

Great Idea, Blez!
Do you know whether Crimson and Cream Machine is going to be participating? Much as I’d like to help out my state of birth, my current home state is hurting, too, and I generally like giving closer to home.

I'm working on getting as many SB Nation blogs as possible
to participate. It’s a tough time right now to be asking people to donate money.
