Didn’t see when I skimmed the other thread, but the second HR Gio gave up to Sheffield was the 250,000th in MLB history. I was really hoping an A would hit that, but it’s neat to be involved in history regardless.
This is probably already on here somewhere, but Billy Wagner is likely going to be out for a solid year, and the Mets will be looking into Street as well as others.
I don’t know very much about Shawn Bowman currently, but he was the kid who was supposed to be such a huge 3b prospect that the Mets were going to have to move Wright to 1st to accommodate him. He was out all last year with an injury but looks to be doing well this year. He’ll be playing Arizona fall ball.
Also, he’s the guy that adjusts himself more than Hannahan.
He did have those injury setbacks which is why he didn’t move up as fast as they’d. like. I mean, I’d assume he’s on the block since the Mets are committed to Wright from here to eternity. They’ve already had another 3b prospect (Daniel Murphy) switch positions just so he could stay in the org. So I don’t think Bowman could do it too.
I don’t know a whole lot about him… I know that he’s hyped and that I like his face.
Mostly he was known for his defense, I’ll assume he can hit too. Rather on the thin side, doesn’t look like any kind of power hitter.
Slip a little of grandpa’s cough syrup in the tea with some honey, take a bunch of medication and sleep it off. Stick some Mentholatum up my nose, take a hot shower.
I sat out in the rain watching the A’s last week… I have a sore throat now.
More runs please
Flashfire - September 8, 2008
Comerica is looking pretty empty
The A’s don’t draw fans anywhere they go. =
thesteve9x - September 8, 2008
The rain, man!
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Quantas never crashed
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Test for game:
Is this too difficult?
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Gio?
mikev - September 8, 2008
No
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Dana?
Kimberly - September 8, 2008
You *do* rock.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
WOOOOOOOO!
I should make a career out of this.
Kimberly - September 8, 2008
I say Crosby.
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
oh my god I wanna play.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
Working on it.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
o actually gotta go for 20min... shoot
schmifty - September 8, 2008
It will be longer than that.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
yay!
schmifty - September 8, 2008
what, no pitchers?
OaklandSi - September 8, 2008
For OldhamA:
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-burdens-of-being-average/
Last year, the average OPS+ for center fielders was 97
mikev - September 8, 2008
But the median was 88?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
It appears so.
So, I guess having Davis at 87 would put him smack dab in the middle of center fielders, offensively.
mikev - September 8, 2008
That just sounds wrong. All CF are either Grady Sizemore or Rajai Davis?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Erm... Unless I'm confusing median and mean (again)
At 87, Rajai’s OPS+ is worse than the theoretical “average CF” 97 OPS+
However, at 87, there are an equal number of CFs with a better OPS+ and a worse OPS+ than him.
mikev - September 8, 2008
most importantly
he’s above the mode.
oakinboston - September 8, 2008
He is?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
well
unclear. probably a la mode, at least.
oakinboston - September 8, 2008
Vanilla?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
A lot of CF AB in the 81-90 OPS+ range and a lot in the 121-130 range.
Not much in between.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Oh, gotcha.
Yeah that is kinda funny, they’re either awesome or terrible with basically nobody who’s just “okay”
mikev - September 8, 2008
Merci.
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
anyone watching the game online?
CrackBaby - September 8, 2008
Yes. Why?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Yeah, here.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
Suck it, Granderson!
God I wish you were on my team.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
LOL
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
250,000 MLB home runs
Didn’t see when I skimmed the other thread, but the second HR Gio gave up to Sheffield was the 250,000th in MLB history. I was really hoping an A would hit that, but it’s neat to be involved in history regardless.
31Boots - September 8, 2008
I wonder who the millionth strikeout was.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Jack Cust.
ElQuesoCapitan - September 8, 2008
Hee.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
See, this is what Ziggy was probably talking about when he said...
…he didn’t want to be mentioned in Cooperstown for something bad that he was a part of. ;-)
Flashfire - September 8, 2008
Wee, Swooney!
Walk it, big boy!
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Productive out!
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Serious question:
Does Cust get credit for a sacrifice on that?
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
If anyone should, it should be he.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Ooh Jennifer can we play the game?
schmifty - September 8, 2008
Still working on it.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
ok cool
schmifty - September 8, 2008
Submarine pickoff?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
This is probably already on here somewhere, but Billy Wagner is likely going to be out for a solid year, and the Mets will be looking into Street as well as others.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
Who do they have that we want?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Reyes, Wright, Beltran
mikev - September 8, 2008
OK but they have to throw in Santana
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Did y'all forget we're talking about STREET?
schmifty - September 8, 2008
I wasn't talking about players Street would be traded for.
I was talking about players the Mets have that we’d want.
mikev - September 8, 2008
I dunno.
Also, he’s the guy that adjusts himself more than Hannahan.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
2002 12th round pick. In his 4th year in A+ at 23 years old. Is that him?
What’s good about him?
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
I just saw him at AA a few weeks ago.
Rather on the thin side, doesn’t look like any kind of power hitter.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
At least he'd have one fan.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Mets also have way too many 2b's, and gotta get rid of some of them
But none of them are very good.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
I'd take Flores
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
ha ha ha
you’d have to kill a few people to make that one happen. they’re so desperately in love with him.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
They don't need him and Reyes
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Crap.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Jeffy!
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
The Man!
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
DOH!
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
Welcome to the bigs leagues, rook.
Now get the hell off of the 40 man roster.
mikev - September 8, 2008
At least his ERA won't be infinity.
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
Too soon.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
High meatball. He'll fit right in.
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
BLLLAAAARRRRGHHHH!
It’s true.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
The Raiders game is now on - I always wondered how they stadium shared.
It looks like a temporary stand is constructed in the outfield – is that right?
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
it bothers me
that there are broncos running all over the infield right now
oakinboston - September 8, 2008
I feel dirty.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
I love it when you talk like that.
mikev - September 8, 2008
Dad?
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
Okay, that was wrong.
LOL!
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
then I don't wanna be right?
or… something?
mikev - September 8, 2008
That was shocking even for AN
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
The dangers of a really bad game.
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
I apologize.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
It wasn't that bad.
Then again, it’s literally impossible to offend me. I’m probably not the best barometer of what’s decent and what’s not for AN.
mikev - September 8, 2008
No... do tell.
(Now, that was bad)
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
Ouch!
But it was funny.
UncleLeo - September 8, 2008
you left out the "dy" at the end.
but I can work with that.
mikev - September 8, 2008
Yeah, they have a bunch of removable seats.
not only do they let a whole bunch of extra drunken fans onto the outfield, but they also absolutely tear up the field for the baseball team.
Yay.
mikev - September 8, 2008
A's should look into a new stadium.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Football should be a college sport.
So says me.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
Frankly, I prefer OldhamA's brand of football.
mikev - September 8, 2008
Doesn't that kind of attitude get you shot in America?
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
Yeah, largely
Although youth soccer is so, so, so big.
schmifty - September 8, 2008
I haven't seen an NFL regular season game in 15 years.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
I've been to one NFL game.
K.C. Chiefs. The good seats. I thought it sucked ass.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
You're on par with me then - I went to the London game last year.
I’m going again this year. Can’t agree that it sucks though, but each to their own.
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
I enjoy it when I watch it. It's just that I don't have the time to follow
baseball plus NFL. Casual EPL and UEFA is the best I can do.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
NFL is a pretty awful "at the game" experience.
It’s become a very “made for TV” event.
mikev - September 8, 2008
I'd rather watch football at home.
Sitting in my spankies with a glass of tea and a book to keep me company.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
If there were more girls in their spankies
I’d enjoy it more.
…
Aw, no comeback. Crap.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
Ooh, tea!
Some of that would go nicely with my ridiculous summer headcold/congestion.
mikev - September 8, 2008
I never got to the tea part.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
I spent much of my evening last night
with my nose stuck in a few hot cups-o-tea. So miserable.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
My secret:
Slip a little of grandpa’s cough syrup in the tea with some honey, take a bunch of medication and sleep it off. Stick some Mentholatum up my nose, take a hot shower.
I sat out in the rain watching the A’s last week… I have a sore throat now.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
That's a fine plan,
except that I had to accompany my wife to the bar for her birthday bash the same night. Worst. Party. Ever. From my perspective.
IowaA'sFan - September 8, 2008
Those Raider Nation "black hole" buffoons would freak out if they saw real football hooligans.
mikev - September 8, 2008
I don't really like real football hooligans
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
They're the thing of myth and legend - I've certainly never seen one.
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
I'm not crazy about the racist chants either
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Where, in Spain and Eastern Europe?
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
Yes.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
So how does Mt Davis work then? Does that serve as the upper deck for the removable seats?
OldhamA - September 8, 2008
Mt Davis was basically created for the luxury boxes.
mikev - September 8, 2008
Jeff Gray!
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
Remember how this game started?
Sigh.
Jennifer - September 8, 2008
at least they made a game of it
and it wasn’t a total rout
SwisherThresher - September 8, 2008
Ya. I'm satisfied. Plus we got to confirm that Jeff Gray actually exists.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
we also confirmed he's not really worthy of a 40 man spot, right?
mikev - September 8, 2008
He did have 2K....but yes.
WaddellCanseco - September 8, 2008
