AN Girls Visit Seattle!

Were you wondering why the game threads seemed so empty last weekend?

Despite the rough season for both the A's and the Mariners, a few of the girls from AN decided on a Seattle road trip because a) hey, girls trip! b) hey, baseball players! and c) Safeco is AWESOME!

As if to prove this point, the Mariners' fan appreciation team took and printed photos for all the Safeco guests with the Moose, who really should have a better name than "Moose". I kept calling him Stomper, because every mascot should be named Stomper, right? But Stomper is definitely lacking in both customer service, and a cool place to live, like the Moose Cave below.

We saw a few of our players during the trip, including Dan Meyer, who made fun of Pam's "I Hella Heart Oakland Shirt", which everyone else (A's fan and Mariners' fan alike) seemed to love. We told Pam that she should have responded, "I hella heart your fastball", but I have a feeling that would have been the last picture we took with Dan Meyer.

And what would any good baseball trip be without a picture of our very own Ziggy on the last day of his storybook season? Congratulations Zig, on an amazing season, and we hope there are many more years of Oakland pictures ahead of you!

Really, Safeco is awesome. One of the coolest ballparks around for sure; a tribute to Gotham City, mixed with just enough cool elements to make it one-of-a-kind. From the really cool and functional roof, to the real grass (and it is no small feat to keep that alive), to the roomy levels, to the full bars and countless restaurants, Safeco is a must for any baseball fan.

Plus, don't we love Lookout Landing?

Stay tuned for today's playoff game at 4:30pm, between Minnesota and Chicago (someone will open a front-page game thread). Winner goes to Tampa Bay for the ALDS. Loser goes home. Who are we rooting for? Oddly for me, I'm going Chicago. I hate their announcers, their manager, and their catcher, but I think they'd make a great playoff story (right up until they get crushed by Tampa Bay, hopefully). I don't do the dome.

I'm rooting for the Twins

They’re small market and unexpectedly good this year. And there really isn’t anyone who asks to be disliked on their team like Ozzie Guillen and Pierzynski. Hell Pierzynski himself is enough of a reason to root against the White Sox.

That's very true.

I have nothing against the Twins, and I’d be happy if they went…but Tampa Bay/Twins? Just doesn’t have a nice ring to it. :-) I want to ROOT for Tampa Bay in the next series and care about it.

I am rooting for them as well, but...

it would suck having an ALDS series where we never see the sky.

My thoughts exactly.
Just have to say

(since I’m being coerced into commenting…no, really)

This trip was AWESOME! So fun to hang out with you ladies and great to finally meet Brad.

Safeco really is beautiful and I have to say, despite the three (very sad) losses, this was a great first A’s road trip for me. Here’s to more!

Yay for first road trips!

And for forced commenting!

Think I'll definitely have to hit Phoenix and San Diego next year.

Better start saving my pennies now!

I'm thinking about San Diego as well

And maybe Dodger stadium right before that…..

Too bad the Dodgers are during the week.

Still annoyed that the Giants series in Oakland is not a weekend.

duh, vacation time!!!
Just went through the schedule and counted

no less than 4 series I want to travel to. Not even counting Spring Training! I’m gonna be so poor.

take southwest

you’ll have free plane tickets for spring training 2010! :)

Oh, and Dan Meyer?

It’s hella not cool to make fun of someone’s shirt who traveled all the way from Oakland to watch three losses. I mean really.

Hahahahahaha....now THAT'S funny.
Twins Twins Twins

As Blez mentions, there’s no way I can root for the Weak Sox, even if they do have Swish and Dye on the squad. I’m not a great fan of the Twins, but Mauer and Morneau are pretty awesome.

That sounds like a great trip, I hope to make it to a game at Safeco sometime.

Also, is that someone wearing a Jeter jersey in the first picture? In Safeco? For an A’s-M’s game? Some people…

Wow, didn't even notice that.

And it’s not like the Yankees are in the playoffs.

Wow…that felt good to type.

go Twins

I am pulling for the Twins tonight of course!!! I like a few of their players especially Justin Morneau (he’s awesome!) and joe Mauer! Thanks for sharing the pictures and stories. Very cool!

Seattle on my list.

Hell, they’re all on my list, since the only non-Oakland stadium I’ve been to is the one across the bay. I know, sad.

Anyway, don’t really care who wins tonight. Not that anyone cares who I don’t care for.

Thanks for the pics, BBG.

question

BBG does the Moose have dreamy eyelashes?

I am a twin, so I'll be rooting for the Twins

But I still want to see a Rays-Cubs world series….

That is strange

I am a twin and I’m rooting for the Twins, and I also want a Rays-Cubs world series.

OMG YOU GUYS ARE TWINS!!!1

wait..

a counterfactual

I’m an asshat, yet I’m rooting against Pierzynski, Guillen, and the Sox.

Wait!

I’m not a twin but I am wearing white sox. I really don’t care who wins tonight.

But I am rooting for a Rays-Cubs Series.

(Although I want the Cubs to win. Because I’m cuddly).

Great pics

I really want to get to Seattle sometime next season.

I was AN Girl #6

…but I couldn’t make it this time. Now I’m wondering why I actually decided to stay home and work that weekend. Plus, I hear there was a Jerry Blevins sighting!

Jerry Blevins, Joey Devine and Huston Street

at dinner on Saturday night!

And Korach in the lobby!
Oooh. Yeah.

Forgot about that one.

and Gio, Cliff and Emil in the elevator

and Carlos in the lobby!
And HELLO to the two Oakland AN fans on the bus back to the airport. Didn’t get your names, but always fun to meet A’s fans on the road.

Yeah, and they were Cal Poly grads too!

ID yourselves, ladies!

I'm one of those grads...

and we saw Carlos and his girlfriend at one of the bars in the airport. Boy, does he ever look cute in street clothes. Also saw Donnie M (and wife) and Dan Meyers.

Do you guys have pics?
Specifically of Carlos.
Carlos is very cute in street clothes.

Saw him once after a game. Hot.

he is pretty hot. We need to assign someone to stalk him and get some pics of him in street clothes. Any takers? Lol

and I have a nice shot of Greg Smith for you!
YAY

Just for saying that, you have now become my hero!LOL

Oh I believe you! Hence the request.

I have a present for you and all the other ladies of AN: some pics of our boys. Only I fear you will all have to wait until next week since I am leaving on vaction tomorrow. It will be a nice little distraction next week when the sadness and bordom of no games starts to sink in.

Sweet! I'm excited.
Hi A's fans from the Bus Ride !

I am the other Cal Poly Grad, yes I have pictures I will post them soon.

Probably a good rule of thumb for player sighting on any A's road trip:

Ask a bunch of locals where the hottest sushi joint is, and then go there.

Seriously, and the sushi was hella good!
Hella. You're just TRYING to get on Dan Meyer's bad side now aren't you.
I hella heart his curveball, too!
I went to an M's-A's game at Safeco a few years ago.

It’s a beautiful park. The game I saw wasn’t great, but the experience was fun.

So, who all went on this trip? Any other good player stories to share? :)

Well, I thought Dan Meyer pointing at Pam's shirt was pretty funny...

…and I wish I had a great story of someone being crazy in the hotel lobby, but sadly, all those A’s are no longer with the team ;-)

This group goes to sushi and stays in for the night and plays Monopoly.

I can say that one benefit of hailing from the Midwest

is that you’re shielded from ever hearing the word “hella” in common speech.

There are virtually no other benefits of hailing from the Midwest.

Los Angeles has the same perk...

…but we also have K-rod. So, pick your poison.

Names with pix, plz?
baseballgirl is the blonde.
Pam is wearing the "I hella heart Oakland" shirt
excuse me, Pam5981
She looked different without Maker's Mark... er... Jack Daniels in her hand.
I just realized I'm holding a drink in almost all these pictures.

Thought I would have gotten more crap for that. I expected more from you, mikev.

It's just beer. That doesn't even count.
I noticed but kept my mouth shut.

Figured mikev would be on it, but like he said, it’s just beer.

Why me??/

It’s not like I’m the residnet (hic) AN Drunk, am I?

So you're not bringing the beer for the game tonight?

Dude.

And there go our secret identities ;)
Long Time Fan is wearing the breast cancer jersey
That makes three, I think...

Who are the second and third ladies (in the first picture)?

Is that D melting?
Haha...I did not notice that until you pointed it out.

And um…where were you on the AN girls’ trip?

It's really sad that this is so amazing, but

Safeco is really beautiful and CLEAN, everyone who works there is nice, friendly and even helpful (!), and they do tons of things to appreciate the fans on a regular basis. We were in the Mariner’s team store on Sunday and we had a gift card that had a little bit of money left on it that wouldn’t scan. The girl apologized and then offered us her employee discount! So nice.

nice pics, looks like a great park

isnt it the 2nd yr in a row A’s ended their season there? plus they clinched there in 06. a group of A’s BBW’s…hot!!

Beautiful pictures!

Favorites: Ry and Dale chatting, Carlos and Dale, Trav cuddled up in his gray sweatshirt.

And I have to ask: why should you never mention Swish around Aaron?

My friend and I made a comment

that his shoes looked like “Swish” shoes, and we were told to never mention Swisher in front of him. No idea why that got that him all huffy…

Interesting.

That’s kind of random, but whatever, Aaron.

Nice pics!

Love the “mascot tug-of-war” going on in the background of the last shot. Those guys were funny. The Ivar’s clam (oyster?) wouldn’t talk to us because we’re A’s fans.

Oh and I love Aaron's shoes. He definitely got a compliment from me on them.

In fact, I want those shoes.

Shoes

He said they were “stylish” before he got mad about the swisher note!

We nearly had a mascot war in front of us.

The Huskie and the “Viking” mascot were getting a little heated for a while. Good thing Poly’s mustang wasn’t there because he would of beat all the mascots. Go ’Stangs!

Sweeney is talking to Dale during the National Anthem!

awwwwwwww great pictures. Thanks for shaaaaring!

Awesome....

Thanks for sharing them!

Thanks for the travelogue

I think I’ll call the “Moose” Tyrone.

“That was a disgustingly bad Mariners baseball season, don’t you think?”

nice story. great way to end the season.

wow you got alot of amazing pictures! I love that one of Saarloos! Very artistic :) and of course I love gregs! He is so freakin’ perfect! Really, am I asking too much when I ask to find him under my Christmas tree come Christmas morning?! I don’t think so!…I don’t want to find him in a box though..just him under the tree…or at the very least I hope he has air holes in the box. Now im off babbling about nothing. :)

Greg = Hot!

Yes under the tree with a big red bow! he was so much fun to watch and he seemed to be able to sing to any song that they played between innings. Oh and Sean poured sunflower seeds in his hoodie and he had no clue, you can see them in the pic below.
Photobucket

haha that picture is adoooooorable. I love how you can see the seeds!Lol Sean is a cutie himself btw. But yeah..Greg is freakin’ hot. Thanks for sharing that picture. Love it!
and yes..him and a red bow……and nothing else. That’s a good Christmas LOL

Absolutely gorgeous pictures

from a truly beautiful place. If and when you all plan another visit, I’d love to go.

I would love to go too.

I grew up in WA state and have never been to Safeco …go figure! BBG and the girls all look like they were having a blast!

I've been to Seattle and Vashon Isle,

which just might be the most gorgeous place I’ve ever been. The Seattle BF has offered to take me to Safeco, but the timing has never been right. I have a feeling I’d have a better time with the girls from AN.

Wouldn't it be really cool if...

100 or more female AN fans attended a game together at Safeco? (Yeah I know it would be even cooler if we did it at the coli lol). Girls day at the Park.

AN Girls day at any park

would be so awesome! Safeco field is a bucket list pick for me. I’m in!

A Spring Training trip

would be the best!

Spring Training

There are four of us headed to AZ March 12 thru the 16th, we should meet up if anyone will be there at the same time!

i neeeeed to go to a game. I have never been. I have seen the A’s close up play the Red Sox (talk about spending a fortune to see them up close!) but I live in RI and work 6 days a week and go to school…not exactly easy to go to Cali for an A’s game! Next year I am hoping to take a week of vacation to get there!
