Ryan Sweeney is strangely slow in the OF and gets incredibly poor jumps; Gonzalez is the opposite. Gonzalez catches that – it wasn’t nearly as hard a play as it appeared to be.

I really like Outman's stuff

His issue doesn’t seem to me to be so much control as it is pitch selection. The 0-2 “backfoot slider” he threw Lopez this inning is precisely the pitch he needed to throw Balentien (when he doubled). He needs to learn when and how to go “up the ladder” with his fastball, how to bury his slider, etc. He has a chance to be good.

He's going to have to work on his curve.

Or throw it very rarely. He’s got a plus fast ball and the slider is very good.

The curve should be more of a "get me over" pitch to steal a strike

He’s a power pitcher – if he wants to go soft, use the changeup.

Yeah, problem for Outman is that his

curve fools no one. The couple he’s thrown have ended up a very long way from home plate.
