All of a sudden, Dallas Braden is a legit candidate for a rotation spot next year (when we might actually compete). I didn’t really see that one coming, especially considering he still doesn’t use his screwball, which he was known for in the low minors.
Whew, I am exhausted, switching between the thrilling A’s and the Blake-Young tennis in NY. All the right winners, hooray. Sudden realisation -rode the exercise bike longer than usual while i watched, perhaps that why I’m exhausted.

You have a rotation full of rookies. Walls will get hit by rookies. You need bullpen pitchers then. Don’t use them when a pitcher can obviously go more.
Blicks - August 25, 2008
I wouldn't call Braden dominant
by any means. He didn’t have a strikeout in seven innings.
Tyler Bleszinski - August 25, 2008
Maybe not a "dominant fashion"
but mowing down one of the best teams in MLB for 7 innings that has guys like Teixeira in it, giving up only one run (on a solo HR to boot), and not getting into any major jams is definitely a masterful performance. All in 82 pitches.
Blicks - August 25, 2008
Still you have excellent
bullpen guys in Devine and Ziggy, why not use them to make sure you retain that lead and let Braden leave feeling good about himself? I don’t think it’s as clear as you make it sound. I certainly wouldn’t use the term “moron” in this instance. Other times this year, sure. Not today.

perhaps...but you'd be singing a different tune if Braden gave up the lead
buddahead9 - August 25, 2008
Doesn't matter. A's aren't in contention.
And the other 4 starters are also very inconsistent and could very easily go 4 innings or 7 innings.
And there’s always pulling him if there are baserunners.
Blicks - August 25, 2008
Even though it's a lost season
I’d rather see them beat the Angels then let a pitcher get 100 pitches of work in.
