and the closed captioning on…..so I don’t know which one of them just said “I am going to state the obvious. There is absolutely no reason to throw that pitch.”
Because he managed the 9th inning perfectly. And I’m not just saying that because it worked. In an IM conversation I said how DFA for Miley was a good move, pinch running for DFA was something you had to do (then he did it). Barton bunting was the right call, and while I wish Suzuki could get a day off once in a while, one at bat isn’t going to hurt matters any.
He made the right call in every situation and they all worked. Good for him.
AN is equipped with an alarm system to wake mods up whenever Cust strikes out — we figured that should have been enough to keep us on our toes to post 1-2 extra game threads plus the game wrap every day.
Roomy!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
"Game continues" gives away too much
How about “Game may or may not continue, depending on weather and other factors.”
Nico - August 15, 2008
I try to be as vague as possible.
notsellingjeans - August 15, 2008
Nobody says that about you

Richie Sexon
You think with all the hitting woes the A’s have, they can help him Bring Sexon Back?
Hit4TheCycle - August 15, 2008
NO
HRH - August 15, 2008
we already have
one first basemen who can’t field in frank
one first basemen who can’t hit in barton
and one who can’t walk in mike sweeney
we also already have a bunch of guys who can’t hit, so why would we need sexson

Question: If the White Sox steal
when the A’s are down 3-0, is it considered “running up the score”?
Nico - August 15, 2008
yes
I think if the Sox steal while up 1-0 it is running up the score
HRH - August 15, 2008
I think anything that contributes to our loss
is considered running up the score.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
So, the A's showing up to play the game counts too?
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
Yep,
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
I would say it would be if it was 4-0
jdub69 - August 15, 2008

ZigFan31 - August 15, 2008

Nico - August 15, 2008
It is a lot to comprehend when you don't see it very often.

jdub69 - August 15, 2008
Closed captioners just said that
“Kurt Accuse Sir” was coming in as a pinch hitter. Hawk must really be a challenge for them to transcribe on the fly.
Englishmajor - August 15, 2008
For whatever reason, Barton is one of the A's best bunters
His form is usually textbook perfect.
Regarding Ozzie’s managing, isn’t bringing in Horatio Ramirez always a bad move? Even if you’re out of pitchers?
Nico - August 15, 2008
I sure hope so

jdub69 - August 15, 2008
yeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
likeiwouldtellyou - August 15, 2008
The nice thing about that is one way or another it was deep enough for a sac fly, so the bunt was a good move ;-)
Flashfire - August 15, 2008
The bunt in that situation is a given
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
well, yeah, you gotta play smart ball to win close games most of the time
jdub69 - August 15, 2008
i think when zook hit it
he was expecting sac fly. when he looked at the ball in flight, i’m sure he was thinking “OMFG”
BigTuna - August 15, 2008
Fucking "A" Suzuki!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mrod - August 15, 2008
Haha, watching the guys run out of the dugout in slo mo -
Swooney was SKIPPING :-D
schmifty - August 15, 2008
I saw that!
That was waaaay too cute.
Kimberly - August 15, 2008
Kudos to Bob Geren tonight
Because he managed the 9th inning perfectly. And I’m not just saying that because it worked. In an IM conversation I said how DFA for Miley was a good move, pinch running for DFA was something you had to do (then he did it). Barton bunting was the right call, and while I wish Suzuki could get a day off once in a while, one at bat isn’t going to hurt matters any.
He made the right call in every situation and they all worked. Good for him.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Especially love the flip of the bat!
Thank God! The A’s really needed a game like this. Man, sure feels good to me, too.
mrod - August 15, 2008
You heard it here first: The A's are going to get hot (finally)
Look out Rangers!
Nico - August 15, 2008

HRH - August 15, 2008
Wow - for once the game's over and I'm not mad
I guess being a fan can actually be fun.
Nico - August 15, 2008
You can find something to be mad about
A couple guys struck out looking tonight. KILL THEM!
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Cust: only 2.5 outcomes on the night
monkeyball - August 15, 2008
I called eet!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
woah i havent jumped in excitement over a game like this in about 2 months!!
vooya40 - August 15, 2008
Did you just touch my ass?
Nico - August 15, 2008

it is physically impossible for me to do so
BigTuna - August 15, 2008

lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
I'm BOTM.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Me neither!
mrod - August 15, 2008
WOW
As I mentioned earlier we had a chance to gain on everyone in the West for once and did.
HRH - August 15, 2008
You Can Put It On The Board....YES!
Hawk was whining his ass off. Made it sound like some bad mojo was the cause the White Sox lost. STFU moron!
KCa's - August 15, 2008
I am actually going to say it
Huston pitched decent tonight.
HRH - August 15, 2008
i guess thats what happens
when you dump a guy on your fantasy team
BigTuna - August 15, 2008
How was his velocity tonight? I didn't think to look
When he’s throwing 93, he’s still really good.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Whoa, whoa, whoa...
This is like the second time in a couple of days that the A’s score 6 runs. Overwhelming.
Kimberly - August 15, 2008
i'm seizing with excitement
BigTuna - August 15, 2008
We're getting spoiled!
Wheeeeeeee
Kimberly - August 15, 2008
Have we had a pinch hit homer of any kind in the past 5 years? I can't think of one.
jdub69 - August 15, 2008
Yeah Suzuki hit one off the Mariners this year
Brandon Morrow
HRH - August 15, 2008
Kurt had another one this season.
Kimberly - August 15, 2008
Kurt is 4 for 6 with two HRs as a pinch hitter
Nico - August 15, 2008
maybe Bowen should play once a week so we get some fire off the bench
jdub69 - August 15, 2008
After that performance by Suzuki...
I bet that you won’t see Bowen start a game for at least 10 more games.
muffinpryde - August 15, 2008
Bitchin Camaro!!!!!
mrod - August 15, 2008
Totally bitchin!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008

vote for the reason there is no post-game wrap...
1. NSJ went comatose after seeing the A’s comeback win;
2. A small asteroid hit NSJ’s house;
3. NSJ fell asleep watching the A’s;
4. All of the above.

it's Cust's fault
AN is equipped with an alarm system to wake mods up whenever Cust strikes out — we figured that should have been enough to keep us on our toes to post 1-2 extra game threads plus the game wrap every day.
