The A's open a three-game series against the White Sox tonight at the Coliseum. The 55-65 A's send Dallas Braden to the mound, while the White Sox counter with 6'5", 230 lb. right-hander Gavin Floyd. Floyd has been successful thus far in '08 (12-6, 3.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP), but has been roughed up for five earned runs in each of his last two starts.
If you see the lineups up before I do, feel free to post them.
Go A's!

Jennifer - August 15, 2008
A's lose 5 - 1.
Good night!
DMOAS - August 15, 2008
Thanks!
Zig
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
This is when I get
a little loopy. A’s and Raiders! Woohoo! But no TV for the A’s, booo!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
This game is on WGN
jax a's fan - August 15, 2008
Thanks Jax!
My thumb is gonna get sore with the switching.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
The continued game thread is scheduled for 8:30, guys
notsellingjeans - August 15, 2008
allright WGN the good guys station....sheesh
ak_A - August 15, 2008
The A's have gone a different direction
Hmmm . . . yeah.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
do you guys have the sox announcers even if you're watching it in california
NateHST - August 15, 2008
Yep.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
i'm from illinois
the white sox announcers are the two most boring people i’ve ever heard talk
NateHST - August 15, 2008
Sadly, they're not even close to the worst in baseball
I’ve never heard them called boring though. Bad, homers, obnoxious, but not boring.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Disagree...
…I think they are the absolute worst in baseball.
UncleLeo - August 15, 2008
You won’t get an argument from any Indians, Twins, Tigers or Royals fan living outside their hometown … the White Sox broadcasters are, bar none, the very worst in the game.
Jay - August 15, 2008
If they're watching it on WGN, yes.
Though I was not aware WGN had an affiliate in the Bay Area. I know it’s “National,” but when I lived in Tacoma there was no WGN in the Seattle area.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
We have it here
in the BA.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
I wonder if Braden saw Patterson and Cust both in the outfield and just broke out in tears
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
He doesn't need outfielders
Just people in the stands to catch the ball
Trainman - August 15, 2008
OMG!
Its the bad Dallas!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Is there a good one?
ZigFan31 - August 15, 2008
gad
ak_A - August 15, 2008
BOO-YAH!
Flashfire - August 15, 2008
Well, that
was fast!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Jesus!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Nobody's fooled
Flashfire - August 15, 2008
Quentin and Thome both looked fooled
They just dropped the ball barely over the infield
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
I'm tired of Texas named
players.
Hit4TheCycle - August 15, 2008
As long as they are not on the team next year
we will be fine
Trainman - August 15, 2008
The real problem is that so many A's players ought to be playing in Texas (Midland) right now
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
This is true
Trainman - August 15, 2008
i would really like to enjoy a good game tonight
with it on tv and all for me, rare nice evening with the sliding glass open, grilling etc, and my waning days in alaska.
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Are you heading to Colorado?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
next friday evening
ak_A - August 15, 2008
What city?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Golden
ak_A - August 15, 2008
That is a great area because you are so close to everything
you need- music, skiing, whitewater rafting, professional sports, BEER, etc.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Exactly
ak_A - August 15, 2008
I like Golden,
Its pretty.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
this team is pathetic
switch over to anderson vs canada
Asfan4ever723 - August 15, 2008
Damn. 3-0 seems like a tough, tough hole.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
I won't even
go there.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Whatevuh!
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Let's just say
we had a convo today about bad beavers.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
I steer clear of those whenever possible.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Haha!
That was the consensus.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
ARE YOU WATCHING THE OLYMPICS?!
Jennifer - August 15, 2008
Trying to switch back and forth.
Anything good coming up? The volleyball couldn’t keep me tuned in.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
You just missed Michael Phelps.
Jennifer - August 15, 2008

Jennifer - August 15, 2008

ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
NO spoilers!
Jennifer - August 15, 2008
Here... have a YUM ROCKET!
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
I always liked Ken Phelps!
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
The reason it seems that way is
1) It really is
2) The way he pitches 3 is not all he is going to give up
Trainman - August 15, 2008
is the olympics baseball game on tv?
NateHST - August 15, 2008
hey beane
sign a damn draft pick, so it will give us something interesting and distract us from this lousy team!!!
Asfan4ever723 - August 15, 2008
On a bright note
Cliff lee got #17 and K-Rod didn’t get the chance for another meaningless save
Trainman - August 15, 2008
I'll laugh if KRod finishes with 60 saves
And blows three straight in the playoffs.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Now I would pay for that
Trainman - August 15, 2008
It's going to be a long weekend.
White Sox are kind of on fire right now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they swept the A’s. It would be nice if the A’s could ruin someone’s weekend besides mine!
Coach Cleats - August 15, 2008
The Whtie Sox are pretty much always on fire at home
Because I’m pretty sure they’re able to bunt the ball over the left field fence.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
damn, a hit.
ak_A - August 15, 2008
damn, a gidp
ak_A - August 15, 2008
I'm shocked that Patterson made a base-running blunder
Shocked, I say.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Poor Unicorn. I'm starting to think he is gonna have to sign
for a very low salary.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Didn't he break off talks?
I think he’s as good as gone
Trainman - August 15, 2008
I'm struggling with that
On one hand, I think Ellis is on a decline and his offense isn’t anything special anyway. He’s replaceable for sure. On the other, the A’s probably can’t replace his defense and they have pitchers who sorta require infielders who can pick it up.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
He has struggled mightily in '08 but he's bound to have a better
offensive season in ’09.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Not sure if his recent performance translates into him having much leverage.
I think we need a mix of veterans to help the young guys out. I like the idea of re-signing Frank Thomas even if I know he won’t stay healthy.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
With us?
Its hard to want him now.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
naturally, a base hit after bases cleaned
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Carlos Quentin looked downright Custian on that play
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Run, Frank, run!
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
Frank really wants to come back next year
He would be good for the youngsters but would have to be like 2 mil per, I would imagine
Trainman - August 15, 2008
$2 million with incentives that can boost it up to $5 mil seems fair to me
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
love the sig line!
ZigFan31 - August 15, 2008
TY.
It was just too sweet and adorable to pass up.
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
lol is fosse delusional
pre game show interviews crosby
crosby said he leads by example LOL
WTF I hope these players dont emulate him or we are screwed for a 10 yr rebuild
then fosse says ive always said if they sign crosby/ellis long term they’ll be good for awhile
Asfan4ever723 - August 15, 2008
That explains a lot about this team
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
That just shows what a idiot Fosse is
Trainman - August 15, 2008
14-13 TN over OAK
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
lets watch entertaining baseball
anderson vs canada

Asfan4ever723 - August 15, 2008
Yay Bowen!
ZigFan31 - August 15, 2008
a shutout inning....nice
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Yes,
Thank you!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Now lets
score some runs! Yes?
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
The dog days of summer are a treat. Nice.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Okay. Another baserunner with zero outs.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Another day, another announcer who think sCrosby can be good if healthy
He IS healthy this year. He still blows.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Annoying to the infinite degree.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
C'mon Booby!
Now’s the time!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
"here's a good player here if he can stay away from injuries"
ak_A - August 15, 2008
I can't believe
people still think cosby is a good player
jax a's fan - August 15, 2008
Every single opposing team announcer outside the AL West says it
In this case, it’s not just Hawk being Hawk.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
The A's feed that info to the team they are playing.
And to think someone typed that shit up with a straight face? No way!
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Sorry to barge in ...
… but over at LetsGoTribe we’re having an open Game Thread for the USA vs. Canada game, which is being broadcast live online right now. Feel free to join us …
Jay - August 15, 2008
Sure looked like Bowen swung there
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
doesn't matter
jax a's fan - August 15, 2008
Well that cleared up any confusion.
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
I'm still confused?? Mommy... help me.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Mommy!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
(He struck out swinging. Cleared up any confusion about a check-swing.)
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
I understand. I'm still puzzled as to how difficult it has become
to even watch a full game. Let’s get these m’fn bats going…
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
m'fn bats . . .
Mommy!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Yeah, we were hoping that
actually didn’t happen.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
(o2b can be a little slow sometimes, i was just making sure)
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
Huh? I'm confused??
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
HaHa!
Exactly.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Just having a litle fun
at your expense.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
You're awfully cute though.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Yeah. Pam tells me that all of the time.
Ha, ha.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Hah! Keep dreaming.
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
You would dig my chili if I dyed my hair blonde
like Asshat Pierzynski.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Did you just say "dig my chill"?
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Oh Yes He Did!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Well, damn!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
speed
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Patterson is impressing me tonight
Nice at bat, stolen base, and he picked up Ellis (another failed Ellis at bat) by tagging on the pop up to shallow right. I guess that makes up for running into a double play in the first inning.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
That was quick
(in a good way)
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
hahahahaha
big frank looked real good
NateHST - August 15, 2008
Wow... that was... wow
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Oak 16 - TN 14
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
with all these levitra, viagra ads on
i may have to get an rx just to get up for the rest of the games this season.
ak_A - August 15, 2008
I said stiff UPPER LIP
Nico - August 15, 2008
nice
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Haha!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Patterson has looked fantastic
Two great ABs, rabbit speed to steal second and again to get to third. Everyone else, unfortunately, sucks.
Nico - August 15, 2008
I agree, except for the boneheaded running straight into the tag in the first inning
If he stops, there’s almost certainly no double play.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
That's not true, though - it's a DP either way
Sharp two hopper to second, pretty basic 4-6-3.
Nico - August 15, 2008
He still made the wrong play
Once Ramirez committed to the tag, Patterson is supposed to stop. At that point, Ramirez either has to chase him down to get the out or go to first and hope they can get Patterson at second on a tag play.
People like to ridicule Hawk for a lot, but when it comes to fundamental stuff like that, he’s usually spot on.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
We struggle with this particular scenario quite often.
It’s not about whether the DP play will be avoided. It’s about putting forth your best effort to “try” and avoid the DP.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Exactly
It’s not the worst play in the world. It’s not as bad as one of Emil’s blunders. I guess boneheaded is a bit harsh. But there’s a lesser of two evils in this scenario, and he didn’t do that.
I just want somebody on the A’s to not just be fast or a base stealer, but a great base runner.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
You just want fundamentals. Our margin for error is very small
because we don’t have much talent.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
I've always hated the no-facial-hair rules that teams like the yankees have
but i’m watching Anderson pitch on the live olympics feed, and i have to say it would be a good idea to make him get rid of those ridiculous sideburns and to surgically remove that small growth on his chin
NateHST - August 15, 2008
Will Hannahan ever make a throw that Barton catches more than 6 inches off the ground?
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
No. Thank you for asking.
Nico - August 15, 2008
depends on what you think 6 inches is
my ex g/f’s and I always disagreed on that.
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Oh no!
you!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Would Extenze help Hannahan's swing?
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
What's for dinner everyone?
I need some inspiration.
pam5981 - August 15, 2008
I'm eating pizza
The White Sox are eating Braden.

thejd44 - August 15, 2008

MMunoz33 - August 15, 2008
And yet,
He wins!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Yes, but how can he celebrate his victory when he's underdoing a quadruple bypass?
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Life is short,
None of us get out of it alive.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
at my physical the other day, i was chatting with
the doctor… "doc, i eat healthy, don’t drink, rarely have sex, exercise often, get to bed early…so tell me, am I going to live to be a hundred?’ No, ak-A, but it’s gonna seem like it.
ak_A - August 15, 2008
Colorado tempation may change these scenarios.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008

ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008

ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Sorry for the mispelling, been drinking watching the Raiders
MMunoz33 - August 15, 2008
You have to drink when watching the Raiders. It makes it somewhat tolerable.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
Just like you have to shoot heroin to tolerate the 2008 Oakland A's
thejd44 - August 15, 2008

ak_A - August 15, 2008
Any thoughts from other ANers who our 2009 closer and set man are?
MMunoz33 - August 15, 2008
Ziggy and Devine??
MMunoz33 - August 15, 2008
You mean that we are going to be ahead at times in '09?
That is exciting stuff to think about.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
If Street is throwing 93, it should be him.
If not, Devine.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Is Casilla fully recovered??
MMunoz33 - August 15, 2008
Street could be good again. However I don't see the finances
fitting in very well with this team when there are cheaper options available during a rebuilding project.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
i'd take devine closer
with blevins and (a healthy?) casilla set up
with ziegler still doing some pretty high leverage, get-groundballs and out of jams work
NateHST - August 15, 2008
That pitch was a good 8 inches inside at least
It tailed back “over the plate,” but AJ caught the ball inside.
The one strike to Hannahan was high, too. Yay bad home plate umpiring!
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
There's no A's in shitty Umping.
MobiusKlein - August 15, 2008
There's no A in sleigh
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
or hey
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
what about Sledge?
MobiusKlein - August 15, 2008
are there any A's in
holy jesus we suck right now. we only need to score some runs. when will it end?
NateHST - August 15, 2008
Damn Barton!
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
Sorry, but that was 1000000% Hannahan's fault
He had 6 days to make that throw and he again threw it like someone just took a sledgehammer to his right arm. Barton saves him most of the time. He’s not always going to pick that ball out of the dirt.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Abso right.
My bad.
lynnzgal - August 15, 2008
It's not always the fault of the 1B if he fails to make a clean pick
In fact, it usually shouldn’t be. You just see it happen so often you take it for granted but throws in the dirt or off the cutout can be difficult to handle.
Flashfire - August 15, 2008
I'm definitely going to keep calling him Miley because he throws like a teenage girl
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Not sure he'll end up in Playboy.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 15, 2008
There is absolutely no comment I can make here that would be ok for anybody to read
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Unbelievable...
Ok, I’ve got to “vent.” The A’s get the leadoff man on every inning and yet can’t score? Oh my golly that is pathetic. Can’t they at least try to move the runner over with fewer than two outs? Hannahan’s act is getting annoying too: “Hannahan steps out… taps his right spike, taps his left spike…grabs his right sleeve, adjusts his right batting glove, adjusts his left batting glove…walks toward the plate, stares at the barrel of the bat….steps in…AND…AND…AND… flys out like a first grader. "HE GONE!” For once I think the Hawk Harrelson is right on the mark. This is a team that has scored 130 fewer runs than the Sox and they don’t even play like they want to win. By the way, can someone from the A’s please give Hannahan a pair of gloves that fit, so he DOESN’T HAVE TO KEEP ADJUSTING THEM!!!
Flamethrower - August 15, 2008
I think the A's have had a runner in scoring position with less than 2 outs three times this game
Moving them over isn’t the problem.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Uh, steal patterson, second?
MobiusKlein - August 15, 2008
Then Barton chases a bad ball on 2-1, takes strike three
and acts like he knows the strike zone better than the ump.
Nico - August 15, 2008
Uh, ump should call the ball, regardless
MobiusKlein - August 15, 2008
Uh, maybe that particular time but Barton is 96% of the problem
Nico - August 15, 2008
Everyone is watching on WGN?
How come I’m in New Hampshire and I get CSN?
schmifty - August 15, 2008
I'm watching CSN.

Cliff Lee by the proverbial mile
Trainman - August 15, 2008
Should he? No. Does he? Yes.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the people who decide these things.
thejd44 - August 15, 2008
Hey all,
I had posted a new game thread set to open at 8:30, but we don’t have to use it yet if you don’t want to.

We need the mojo!
