Duchscherer gave up three bombs in his 6+ innings (two homeruns, and one F-bomb as he was leaving the game), and finds himself on the losing effort of a 3-2 contest.
The A's chances to have a tie game hinged on:
That is all. Bottom of the eighth we go; A's in desperate need of a rally.

MOJO.
pam5981 - August 13, 2008
lets do this
2 game win streak! COME ON A’S!
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
That was for you foolish :-)
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
wtg, BBG...
a lost cause, perhaps, but worth the mojo expenditure.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
how about we get a runner on...
and Frank hits a walk-off
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
oh wait, only the eighth
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
'Cept it's the eighth ;-)
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
it seems like the 12th
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
True that.
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
Seriously. I'm amazed I'm still watching.
thank god for DVR.
pam5981 - August 13, 2008
Mark Ellis is just not trying anymore
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
I get that impression too
and it seems like it has been awhile since he has shown interest
butler19 - August 13, 2008
ellis
couldn’t look more apathetic. not that he’s normally super keyed up – but come on… show some expression
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
put it under your arm
and walk back to the dugout. don’t show any emotion whatever you do.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
I don't care about that...
as much as i care about him being a bad hitter…
brenarlo - August 13, 2008
Ellis is playing golf somewhere in his mind
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
Beane sucked the soul out of Ellis when he gave up on the season
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
He's a Midwesterner
That’s how we do keyed-up.
Englishmajor - August 13, 2008
laughs
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
touche
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
Maybe Ellis wants to be traded?
butler19 - August 13, 2008
i don't think playing poorly
gets you traded… generally speaking you want someone to want to have you.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
And its a contract year for him.
One would think he’d be playing better.
Blicks - August 13, 2008
I understand but it looks like he is over it
butler19 - August 13, 2008
Beane is not going to shell out 5 mil a year
for anyone that plays like he has of late.
He’s gone.
Trainman - August 13, 2008
he wants out...
he don’t want no part of this team next year. Prolly smart.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
that's what it looks like to me.
butler19 - August 13, 2008
More like, Beane's not gonna shell out 5 mil a year for anyone, period. Too cheap.
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
ziegler
good thing we’ve had him warming up for two innings. we sure know how to use our bullpen – get him nice and tired so when we tie/take the lead we can blow both his streak and the game.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
LOL K-Rod blows another one
2 run double with 1 out
Trainman - August 13, 2008
SWEET
butler19 - August 13, 2008
I hate that guy
butler19 - August 13, 2008
he is definitely
in my top 5 most hated players in the majors. right up there with manny.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Blicks - August 13, 2008
Aren't those the BEST moments?
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
there is almost always...
a silver lining to an evening when the A’s lose.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
K-Rod blew the save!!!!!
brenarlo - August 13, 2008
Now that's something to cheer about!
ZigFan31 - August 13, 2008
HAT TRICK!
Attaboy CGon
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
WE HAVE FEWER STRICKOUTS THAT THE OTHER TEAM!!!!111
pam5981 - August 13, 2008
K-Rod now in line for a loss
Couldn’t happen to a bigger POS
Trainman - August 13, 2008
Agreed.
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
His only out was a low liner to Vlad
SO overrated
Trainman - August 13, 2008
i hope whoever hit the double
is standing on second screaming at the top of his lungs and pumping his fists while humping the air
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
excatly
butler19 - August 13, 2008
Jeremy Reed hit it
It went all the way to the wall and split Hunter and Vlad
Now they took out the POS and brought in Oliver.
Time for another run to pump up that ERA a little more
Trainman - August 13, 2008
Isn't that blown save number 5?
While Street has 7? Obviously, K-Rod has had many more opportunities, but still – shows how the difference between elite closers and bleah closers isn’t really that many games.
Nico - August 13, 2008
#5
That’s the first thing Physioc said.
The second thing he said was, “Frankie doesn’t have it tonite”
Trainman - August 13, 2008
For Street it's only 6 (18/24)
Nico - August 13, 2008
my take...
there’s not much difference between Street and Fuck-Rod. Someone is WAY gonna overpay for that fool. But, he’s hardly the best closer in the game.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
but he does have far better stuff than Street
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
oh, no doubt about that
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
Blame of the Game:
K Rod
Hit4TheCycle - August 13, 2008
I can't even stand to watch this anymore...
What can we even say that hasn’t been said a million times other than these hitters are flat out pathetic…
brenarlo - August 13, 2008
KROD
just got ejected. what a baby.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
What is wrong with that guy?
butler19 - August 13, 2008
He's as bad a Lackey
butler19 - August 13, 2008
worse
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
Ejected by the umps or pulled by the manager?
If ejected, what happened?
Blicks - August 13, 2008
He was pulled by the manager...
then complained on his way to the dugout and got tossed.
brenarlo - August 13, 2008
ahhh
what a DBAG. he can’t lose OR win with any dignity.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
ahhhhh
K-Rod is a moron.
Blicks - August 13, 2008
i didn't see it
but espn said he was ejected by home plate umpire gerry davis – i’m guessing he was crying about balls
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
The A's have scored 5 runs or more 3 times since the ASB...
The Cubs accomplished that twice today!!!!
brenarlo - August 13, 2008
the Cubs have players who can hit
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
Street looks very good tonight
Nico - August 13, 2008
i don't know if i'd go that far
but he doesn’t look as bad as the auto-loss he was for the last few weeks
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
His fastball is hitting 93 MPH and his slider has some good bite
Command is a bit iffy.
Nico - August 13, 2008
yeah his arm doesnt look as dead
but if he can’t hit the zone or get guys to swing out of the zone then it doesn’t really matter all that much
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
His track record says he can -
his stuff hasn’t been there. He knows how to pitch and he has succeeded under pressure. So if he can get his fastball back in the 90s and keep the slider and changeup down, he should be fine.
Nico - August 13, 2008
right
i was commenting on his inability to do so in the present game. i don’t have a lot of faith in one appearance where his arm looks okay against a month of garbage though. he’ll have to do it a few more times to give me some faith that he’s actually on the comeback.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
it's a non-save situation...
garbage time, basically. He’s probably very relaxed.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
Texiera just hit another home run
J.J. Putz is another gascan of late
Trainman - August 13, 2008
sigh
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
Why?
butler19 - August 13, 2008
That's not fun.
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
Teixeira's hitting better with the Halos than he did with them Braves.
ugh
Blicks - August 13, 2008
God, I hope the Angels are out on the first round--please
butler19 - August 13, 2008
angels fans are soooooo obnoxious
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
They're actually very bland and boring
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
i dunno
i went to college in LA and was a freshman when they won it in 02. I’ve never seen a bunch of bandwagon fans like them. then the next year everyone was a dodger’s fan again. they’re only angels fans when they have a chance at the world series – and then of course they’ve all been die hard fans forever (even though they own only dodgers gear). that’s what is obnoxious to me. i hate hop ons.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
posers
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
Now to hope the former Halos closer blows a save.
Blicks - August 13, 2008
Here's where Cust is a great lead off hitter
HR ties it, walk really helps.
Nico - August 13, 2008
woo-hoo...
a Raj appearance if he walks.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
Gotta be Rajai!
Nico - August 13, 2008
SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
out by a fuckin' mile
pathetic.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
crosby
could’ve at least taken a half hearted hack at the ball to try to protect him a LITTLE
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
I thought he got a good jump, couldn't believe he was thrown out
Nico - August 13, 2008
his jump was really legit
but percy’s side step and cockshot fastball set navarro up pretty well
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
It kinda seemed like he pulled up instead of letting his momentum carry him thru the bag?
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
ya
i couldn’t tell if he was out of balance forward – or if he knew he was hosed and was trying to avoid a tag
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
The latter - tried to change hands to the bag
Nico - August 13, 2008
that's definitely what it looked like at the end
thought maybe he was doin that as a result of losing his balance and goin into his slide a little aerly
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
why do that when you can pop out?
It’s so much less stressful.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
lol
i mean he can still pop out meaninglessly after davis gets the SB
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
He should have taken a full hack...
that was a fastball right down the pipe
calgbear - August 13, 2008
YES
EMILY HAS A BAT OUT IN THE HOLE BEHIND CROSBY!!!!
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
That's a good thing!
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
UGH!
baseballgirl - August 13, 2008
I have to say it... run Rajai run
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
huh
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
there's still a glimmer of hope
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
Mini-Tease.
pam5981 - August 13, 2008
I love it when girls mini-tease...
not so much when the A’s do it.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
its like the hot girl at the bar
who makes eye contact briefly… but when you go to buy her a drink she even turns the free drink down – making you realize you definitely never had a chance
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
well
i guess i’ll spend my money on the cross eyed girl instead
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
I've never had a girl turn a free drink down...
you must hang at some pretty exclusive bars.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
its the hottest girl in the bar syndrome
they have so many drinks coming their way there really is no need for them to waste their time with you when half the ‘skins are there for her to do some gold diggin with.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
I never buy the hottest girl in the bar a drink..
I let her buy me one. That could explain it. ;-)
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
laughs... that's a bad night
jdub69 - August 13, 2008
he missed a phat one.
capper3 - August 13, 2008
So many on here seem to think "productive outs"
are overrated, but if the A’s were especially adept at capitalizing they’d win a lot more games. Because every team gets SOME of those chances and the A’s are scoring barely 2 runs/game since the ASB while losing a lot of low-scoring games like this. Just score the gimmes you do get and games like this go in the win column.
Nico - August 13, 2008
couldn't agree more
we waste SOOOOOOOO many abs. worst situational hitters. EVER.
DC Athletics - August 13, 2008
wow, that's like the hottest I've seen you about an A's loss...
and, all over “productive outs.” Go figure.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
I'm not hot about the loss - actually a little conflicted
in that the one solace this season still brings me is the prospect of the Yankees – and possibly even the Red Sox – missing the playoffs. Though I still think Boston will win the East, but we’ll see.
Nico - August 13, 2008
not if we keep losing to the Rays...
I’m very conflicted.
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
That's my point - I won't root for the A's to lose,
but if we have to lose I don’t mind if it’s to the Rays.
Nico - August 13, 2008
Rays and Twins in the playoffs...
nobody will watch. Except for A’s fans. LOL
FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
But strikeouts are better because at least they're not double plays!
Neither are pop outs!
Flashfire - August 13, 2008
Two games in a row where only one swing of the bat was responsible for their runs
Flashfire - August 13, 2008
Make that three, actually. Just one run on Sunday in Detroit as well
Flashfire - August 13, 2008
And if Pena doesn't make a poor play, we might get shutout
Nico - August 13, 2008
Carlos Pena...
. What could have been.FoolshGame22 - August 13, 2008
