I know he’s 0 for 2, but how does Barton look? He hit a home run for Sacto yesterday. Any more aggression in his swing tonight, or is he still taking confused and defensive swings?
I’ve had the game on the radio every since first pitch….I’ve just been cleaning….
By the way, if anyone left behind a small light purple cooler at AN Day, it’s now clean. If you want it back, email me. But I’m borrowing it this weekend, so you can’t have it back until next week. Thanks.
Guess which team leads AL in fewest hits, and second fewest runs, at 190 and 87 each, no, not our A’s,but the Rays, the AL East leading Rays. They’ve only scored one more run than the A’s, and had 10 fewer hits, yet they are in 1st place.
when we switched threads, my IE decided I no longer needed to load AN (I’m at work still, or I’d be using Firefox), so I said screw it and downloaded Firefox at work. IE just sucks. And it just seemed to kick me off for no reason. And wouldn’t let me return. Bastards.
Maybe they are saying to Street “if you are going to blow a close game, do it in 7th inning so we don’t waste someone else’s arm.” I’d like to see them just keep him in there until he figures out how to get people out again.
I know Ray loves this guy, but what the hell. We have guys all over the bases – No outs, 1 out and we can never score the runner, advance the runner. Sox get Bay to 3rd and the rookie sends up nice sac fly. I know our hitting isn’t much – but we’d have to be able to score the runner every once in a while just by chance. Maybe Frank being in the lineup will help Cust out. Otherwise they can go back to the Castle AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
There are plenty of us who don’t like that kind of stuff even if it’s our guys doing it. Fortunately, the A’s don’t do a lot of that. I would HATE it if K-Rod did what he does on the A’s. I’d enjoy the saves, however.
I have more respect for someone who charges the mound over ridiculous things than someone who think every damn save is equivalent (in his eyes) to the resurrection of Christ. Kendall has never been accused of bad sportsmanship, while f-rod is the very definition of bad sportsmanship. He is a cancer on the game.
i just don’t feel that he put himself in a good enough place to be dealt for decent people, so i don’t think it’s a failing of billy. maybe a bit of a fail of houston?
I like that Manny said F U to Boston and there is a real air of excitement down here in Echo Park that one of todays great hitters have arrived in L.A.

Ziegler at it again
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
that makes 31, right?
kapers - August 1, 2008
I've lost count
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
yes, 31
schmifty - August 1, 2008
Since we're on a roll getting wishes granted.... how about granting us about 5 more runs in the 9th?
kapers - August 1, 2008
you gotta ask right.
Leopold Bloom - August 1, 2008
ok. oh great wish granter, please keep in mind that Huston will be pitching soon and we really need a large cushion here.
Please? With a cherry on top?
kapers - August 1, 2008
LS! Base hit in the nineth!!

When the do the movie version of Ellis' 57-game streak
they’ll show Joe DiMaggio up in heaven, looking down and fuming,
“That bastard isn’t even a dago bastard!!”
One won lost won - August 1, 2008
He's a Dako bastard.
iglew - August 1, 2008
That is really ugly bunting form
mikeA - August 1, 2008
I can understand sticking with the bunt
given Papelbon’s fastball. But Hannahan’s bunting form sucks too.
Nico - August 1, 2008
Bunting on 3-2 is pretty dumb, but probably the same result
mikeA - August 1, 2008
And not sending the runner -
at least if you send the runner, Hannahan can just bunt it back to the mound.
Nico - August 1, 2008
Yeah,
If they’re going to bunt, sending the runner seems like a no brainer…
mikeA - August 1, 2008
Ty Van Burkleo
I know Ray loves this guy, but what the hell. We have guys all over the bases – No outs, 1 out and we can never score the runner, advance the runner. Sox get Bay to 3rd and the rookie sends up nice sac fly. I know our hitting isn’t much – but we’d have to be able to score the runner every once in a while just by chance. Maybe Frank being in the lineup will help Cust out. Otherwise they can go back to the Castle AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
DCinWC - August 1, 2008
All of which has nothing to do with Van Burkeleo
Really, it doesn’t.
Nico - August 1, 2008
I blame Van Burkeleo for Hannahan's godawful bunt.
mikev - August 1, 2008
two-strike bunting
now that is major league
One won lost won - August 1, 2008
I like that the two-strike bunt setup
has shook up Papelbum
One won lost won - August 1, 2008
Dumbest. Move. Ever.
mikev - August 1, 2008
Have you seen Hannahan try to catch up to a 95 MPH fastball?
If they had sent Ellis on the 3-2 pitch, it would have all worked out great.
Nico - August 1, 2008
I guess it was a series of dumb moves.
mikev - August 1, 2008
Damn!
Way to telegraph, like everything!
lynnzgal - August 1, 2008
Meh
At least Ellie was such the gentleman, politely asking the ump if he was out?
schmifty - August 1, 2008
sheesh.
ak_A - August 1, 2008
Croz's creepy stare at the pitcher burrows into my soul
schmifty - August 1, 2008
Is Pappelbon like F-Rod
with all the celebration after he gets a save?
Leopold Bloom - August 1, 2008
I would think so
I mean, he’s a douche right? So probably yeah.
schmifty - August 1, 2008
Please, God
No.

that's what i sad - too bad it wasn't manny
NVAngela - August 1, 2008
ugh,
One of the hits that Fenway hurts.
mikeA - August 1, 2008
Along with Crosby's HR turned double
Nico - August 1, 2008
yup
The Cust HR may have been an out in most parks, though.
mikeA - August 1, 2008
I don't know
Any other park, they might have played closer to the foul line…”no doubles”.
But obviously, the LFer plays in closer in Fenway.

lynnzgal - August 1, 2008
Also
for the “Manny is better than Bay” folks, Bay has saved a couple runs this game.

Nico - August 1, 2008
i bet on the bob-tail mare.
ak_A - August 1, 2008
they made a pact with the devil in the off season. no team should win that many games by 1 run
kapers - August 1, 2008
yes, but, Manny is still better than Bay
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
there's way more offense in this game
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Pitch to Cash, or walk Varitek if he pinch hits
Nico - August 1, 2008
Casey?
Leopold Bloom - August 1, 2008
Oh, Casey...Hmm..
You won’t double up Ellsbury – pitch to him.

Eckersley was the best by punching the hitter out with his fist while screaming at him
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Well, Eck actually pointed, as in
“bang, I got you!” but he said, it never was directed at the batter as a person, just to himself.
One won lost won - August 1, 2008
You're right. It sure looked great though.
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
I never understood why everyone
complains so much about Rodriguez doing that.
iglew - August 1, 2008
Because
it’s like completely annoying and over the top.
DCinWC - August 1, 2008
thanking god after each save is annoying as all get out. I mean come on.
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Would it be annoying if one of our guys did it?
iglew - August 1, 2008
absolutely
pam5981 - August 1, 2008
How about Swish? Was that annoying?
iglew - August 1, 2008
to me it was
pam5981 - August 1, 2008
even though i don't think it was over the top
pam5981 - August 1, 2008
Yes, even though he was pointing towards grandma, not god
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Less so, but I can see it could annoy others
Nico - August 1, 2008
a little bit, but he was single A compared to f-rod/papelbon
mikeA - August 1, 2008
Yes - I would be embarrassed for our team
Nico - August 1, 2008
You're fuckin a right it would be
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
yes
mikeA - August 1, 2008
It is appalling behavior any way you slice it
mikeA - August 1, 2008
OT - Do any of our guys do annoying stuffs? I can't think of any
Except maybe Hanny and his excessive junk touchage
schmifty - August 1, 2008
That's because they're our guys
If he were on a rival team, you’d be annoyed by Street sticking out his tongue.
iglew - August 1, 2008
Yeah I know, I mean - anything potentially annoying?
Huston’s tongue counts, ok
schmifty - August 1, 2008
iglew, that's really not true
There are plenty of us who don’t like that kind of stuff even if it’s our guys doing it. Fortunately, the A’s don’t do a lot of that. I would HATE it if K-Rod did what he does on the A’s. I’d enjoy the saves, however.
Nico - August 1, 2008
The level of hate is different
Did we hate Kendall when he was a pugnacious jackass? No, we called him “gritty”.
iglew - August 1, 2008
I always like Kendall
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
I didn't care for it.
And the word I used to describe Kendall wasn’t “gritty” – it did rhyme with gritty, however.
Nico - August 1, 2008
Well, you got me there ...
... he sure was pretty! ;-)
iglew - August 1, 2008
We hated Kendall because he was a horrific hitter.
mikev - August 1, 2008
Why was he a pugnacious jackass?
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Frankly
I have more respect for someone who charges the mound over ridiculous things than someone who think every damn save is equivalent (in his eyes) to the resurrection of Christ. Kendall has never been accused of bad sportsmanship, while f-rod is the very definition of bad sportsmanship. He is a cancer on the game.
mikeA - August 1, 2008
You said it brother
jdub69 - August 1, 2008
Tongue Sticking Out
NOBODY can even touch Ronnie Belliard (sp?) on that subject
