I dunno what the hell I’ll use when I leave here. There seems to be A LOT of stuff left on the street here, and I’m not trying to be cute or witty. An inordinate amount of “stuff” just left outside on the curb. It’s kind of…creepy.
I was quite impressed that thee Craig Newmark would personally give a careful and thoughtful response to a minor “nag” I sent.
I took the opportunity to give him my personal “thanks” for having originated/invented/created etc craigslist.
Incredibly, unlike so much of correspondence on the internet, HE RESPONDED A SECOND TIME!!!
Apropos my comments, there were people in NYC abusing the rental system. Professional agents were posing as “common folk” and not paying for their listings. Craig Newmark wrote them, saying “this is Craig Newmark, of craigslist, and you cannot…etc etc.”
To which the New Yorkers wrote back, ” You’re ‘Craig Newmark’??!! Hey, I’m the Emperor of France, if you need to know, so beat it..etc etc”. They ignored his admonitions for a while, until actions that spoke louder than e-mailed entreaties brought the reality to them.
(snd it’s VERY weird posting in a game day thread two days after, but I just now saw this) I see someone who’s not listing in the right spot, I mean professionals trying to pass themselves off as “normal folk,” I report them. Every listing. It’s kind of a sacred idea to have these things remain free and unspoiled by the marketplace. Or to allow the marketplace in, but be able to easily set them aside in favor of a real person to person contact.
I was picking it up, carrying it a few feet, setting it down to take a break, and so on. Fortunately I was moving it from my friend’s house (two blocks from a BART station) to my place (four blocks from a BART station), so I only had to carry it for six blocks total.
If it was made today. I don’t know that they would’ve risked Hamilton for Harden and Gaudin (both had been injured the previous season) in the offseason.
The A’s had a huge number of home games in June. They weren’t going to sustain a race with the Angels, once August and Sept came around. Not enough pieces.
People I dont want to see on the 2009 oakland A's:
Alan Embree- get a new pitch, ur fastball isnt scaring anybody Jack Cust – KKKKK Bobby Crosby – how many times is this guy going to be behind in the count 0-2? Eric Chavez – career is over Lenny Dinardo – scrub Mark Ellis – regretfully so, always liked him but its time to start new
Does anybody else just stop watching games when Embree comes in?
I know he’s not quite that terrible, but I just have no interest in seeing this guy pitch anymore. This guy on Comedy Central is far more entertaining.
Which I’m basing on this past NHL season regarding the Sharks captain. He was struggling leading up to the trade deadline, and then settled down once it because official he’d be staying in SJ. He didn’t read all the trade rumors but admited his wife was always quick to bring it to his attention.
I think that his suckage is due to his trying to learn from veteran presence Embree. Embree mockingly calls him “smoke and mirrors” and encourages him to “go after hitters”—but Huston is far better if he actually uses his slider to set up his fastball. And now both of them are “going after hitters” and getting ripped.
Too bad Blevins is going to get the L, and Ziggy will feel bad giving up the losing run, but it’s either one of Gallagher, Embree, and Brown who really deserve the L.
For the record, Jack Cust's OPS has slipped under .800
And for our supposed big “masher,” he’s only slugging around .425 or so although still getting on base at a decent clip.
Might be time to reevaluate just how valuable Cust is… after factoring in the league average hitting, the atrocious defense, the inability to hit anything other than a fastball, the inability to make contact…
He’s been downright horrific more often than not this year.
April .188/.388/.281 June .207/.339/.402 July .197/.321/.439
Granted he had a very good May but when you’ve basically sucked 3 out of 4 months in the season, well that’s not very good is it? It’s fine if he has streaks where he’s going bad, but he needs to have good streaks too. And so far this year, that’s happened rarely.
I'd rather see Embree give up a run or two in the sixth inning
and have Ziggy and Blevins pitch in later innings than to have the A’s concede with Embree late in the game where we have less chance to come back from it.
I guess I left almost at the right time - right after it got to be 8-5
I’m just glad I got to see Ziggy tie the Major League record, even if he allowed the inherited runner to score. At least, all those runs in the 9th made it a little easier to stomach him giving up the run.
Still planning on going to the rest to see him hopefully break it.

oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
I have a theory about Huston
I think that his suckage is due to his trying to learn from veteran presence Embree. Embree mockingly calls him “smoke and mirrors” and encourages him to “go after hitters”—but Huston is far better if he actually uses his slider to set up his fastball. And now both of them are “going after hitters” and getting ripped.
But then, I’m drunk, so what the heck do I know…

Trainman - July 25, 2008
WoooT! We survived!!
oblique - July 25, 2008
Englishmajor - July 25, 2008

laxtonto - July 25, 2008
LMAO
asfansince1989 - July 25, 2008
awesome
iglew - July 25, 2008
Heh
That was almost worth hanging around to see.
bear88 - July 25, 2008
That's a conniving kitty.
Leopold Bloom - July 25, 2008
well the cat had to watch thegame too...
now he can be stoned and no watch….
laxtonto - July 25, 2008

SwisherThresher - July 25, 2008
Just purrrrrfect!
ZigFan31 - July 25, 2008
Can we toss Embree to the cats instead?
asfansince1989 - July 25, 2008
My cats is dark orange and looks like his birg brother
His name is Mulder and he’s 6 years old next month. He was named before Mulder broke down.
My other cat is Zito who also is the same age and was named before he sucked.
Trainman - July 25, 2008
Big Bro
LOL
Trainman - July 25, 2008
Please don't name any cats Duchscherer.
oblique - July 25, 2008
Ha Ha
How about I name the next haf dozen
Hannahan, Embree, Foulke, Custy, Dana and Emil.
Trainman - July 25, 2008
God bless any of us that can stick around for a game like this.
ohtobe21likehuston - July 25, 2008
God had nothing to do with this abomination
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
I am only sticking around to hear
Poeple on extra innings and how happy they are with the crap they just witnessed.
Trainman - July 25, 2008
Amen.
Leopold Bloom - July 25, 2008
I went away to catch up on an episode of Damages
while have the game Tivo’d, and came back to major damages! Ouch
asfansince1989 - July 25, 2008
waking up at 6AM on a saturday....bad
waking up at 6AM on a saturday to discover your team gave up an 8 spot in the top of the 9th and the game is still dragging on….Gigli bad.
jubjub - July 25, 2008
Shit.
It’s Saturday? This WAS a long game.
Jennifer - July 25, 2008
Time flies
Oh . .. Forget it.
lynnzgal - July 25, 2008
For the record, Jack Cust's OPS has slipped under .800
And for our supposed big “masher,” he’s only slugging around .425 or so although still getting on base at a decent clip.
Might be time to reevaluate just how valuable Cust is… after factoring in the league average hitting, the atrocious defense, the inability to hit anything other than a fastball, the inability to make contact…
lenscrafters - July 25, 2008
Actually
He has been missing a bunch of fastballs as well.
Don’t know what’s wrong but it is very bad.
Trainman - July 25, 2008
how many of his recent ABs end in K
Seems like way more than 1/2
It’s not working for me.
MobiusKlein - July 25, 2008
Cust 66 AB'S this month for 39 K's (You Asked for it) and a .197 BA
And some say he’s our best hitter?
Trainman - July 25, 2008
59 percent K rate for July
On another note DFA is batting .302 for the month.
Trainman - July 25, 2008
Damn
Damn.
Where is Antonio Pereze when you need him?
MobiusKlein - July 25, 2008
Keep in mind
Cust is a streak hitter. That’s what he always will be.
When he’s going bad, he looks absurd. Always.
bear88 - July 25, 2008
Yes, but
this is more like falling from a cliff.
MobiusKlein - July 25, 2008
Problem is
He’s been downright horrific more often than not this year.
April .188/.388/.281
June .207/.339/.402
July .197/.321/.439
Granted he had a very good May but when you’ve basically sucked 3 out of 4 months in the season, well that’s not very good is it? It’s fine if he has streaks where he’s going bad, but he needs to have good streaks too. And so far this year, that’s happened rarely.
lenscrafters - July 25, 2008
Geren
Don’t waste Ziggy and Blevins if you’re only going to hand it over to Embree.
We can all Miss Cleo what happens next.
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
Problem is that there is no one left
We were down 6-5, so he’s saving Huston in case we tie or get the lead. Casilla isn’t who he used to be. We need Devine back in a hurry!
asfansince1989 - July 25, 2008
Lets see
DiNardo
Embree
Street
Brown
Casillia
Street’s for the Save / Win, so there is only gas left over.
MobiusKlein - July 25, 2008
I'd rather see Embree give up a run or two in the sixth inning
and have Ziggy and Blevins pitch in later innings than to have the A’s concede with Embree late in the game where we have less chance to come back from it.
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
Josh Hamilton
It looks like they have a better chance than we do this year. Just do us a solid and knock the Angels off. Don’t waste your bats this year.
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
That seems
unnatural.
lynnzgal - July 25, 2008
lesser of two evils
yet evil, nonetheless
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
Josh might have better luck catching a bus back to Arlington.
44FAN - July 25, 2008
Probably
I hate to admit that
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
When was the last time
the A’s were in 3rd place at this point in the season?
PortlandPachyderm - July 25, 2008
last year?
asfansince1989 - July 25, 2008
PS. I'm ditching my sig right now.
PortlandPachyderm - July 25, 2008
Can we ditch the hitter in your sig also?
I’m tired of his small feast and large famine
oaklandSMASH - July 25, 2008
I haven't done the math....
Is it still possible for the A’s to lose 100 this season?
gregorymark - July 25, 2008
162 games, 50 something wins so far
so yes
MobiusKlein - July 25, 2008
They're on their way!
gregorymark - July 25, 2008
God
forbid.
lynnzgal - July 25, 2008
GAME RECAP IS UP
Here.
Nico - July 25, 2008
I guess I left almost at the right time - right after it got to be 8-5
I’m just glad I got to see Ziggy tie the Major League record, even if he allowed the inherited runner to score. At least, all those runs in the 9th made it a little easier to stomach him giving up the run.
Still planning on going to the rest to see him hopefully break it.
