A's trail 3-2 going to the bottom of the 6th. Harden started strong, then got a little shaky with his control after walking Anderson and surrendering a preposterous HR to Vlad. A's got one back on an RBI single by Patrol Craft.

good call on sticking the link when announcing new thread
Im think more like 2010 at the very earliest. There are a ton of non pitchers in the A’s system that need to prove they belong on the MLB level. By 2010-2011 I think you will have a better idea of what kind of players you have in Suzuki, Gonzales, Barton, just to name a few.
be better in 09 than in 08…so given that I’m thinking that a division is reasonable. Not that it isn’t this year…but clearly we see where the guys come up short vs Anaheim
the A’s will be better in 09? Im not sold on that theory, you wont have Sweeney or Frank Thomas. Plus it next year you probably wont have a guy like Emil brown that carries your team for the first 6 weeks.
instead of Emil it will be Patrol Craft. And who’s to say the A’s won’t have a guy like Sweeney? What if Jack Cust gets off to a hot start? There’s plenty to think that the A’s will be better…..Suzuki will have another year under his belt, as will Ryan Sweeney…..usually young teams with potential get better year to year…have you not been an A’s fan more than two years?
would say that Barton would be better then he is right now. Unfortunatly at the MLB level you have to prove that you belong. Your telling me that this time next year that you expect the A’s to be better then 4 games over .500? You guys dont expect alot do you?
Barton’s in his first full season in the majors and most people at that level are going to struggle. I expect him to get through it because he’s hit too well at every level he’s played in to keep going like this. He has to adjust.
Maybe you should stick to talking about beer and chicks. That seems to be more your area of expertise.
i want to see the player do it between the lines. I dont give guys like Millidge the Triple crown becuase everyone kisses his ass. THis is a blog full of fans, not any of us know more then anyone else. It s not like your fuckin top A’s scout and you know all things baseball. So I will state my opinion early and often.
What happened last year? It was suppose to be a great year and dont say injuries. Thats what happens when you sign guys that are injury prone, now thats common sense.
Given that Street hasn’t been for a while and has a day off tomorrow, give him the 8th and 9th and give yourself two innings to win it before going to Foulke, Brown, etc.
but Cros has a hard time throwing across his body when moving to his right. This is, in my unscientific observation, when he makes his worst throws to 1st.
most guys have a 20-30% chance of getting a hit. I think it’s guys like Chipper Jones, who’s got over a 40% chance of getting a hit are the type who really stand out. lolz
but I’m dressed for a run myself. Unfortunately, the game is dragging on so long that I will have to pick up my daughter instead – unless the game ends soon.
the first results are nude paintings by Adolf Ziegler, a picture of “man’s dream” featuring a guy sitting in a recliner while getting a BJ from a hot girl, a cig in hand, and another hot girl pouring a pitcher of beer into his mouth, while watching Germany kick England’s ass in presumably soccer, and finally a very disgusting stomach injury pic.
Incroyable. We’re here, just came back from the pub,,,well, actually we’ve been back for a while drinking port, listening to Queen, and watching the A’s. Grandslammer for Ellis! Go A’s!
I was listening to the game at my sister in law’s house because they don’t have a t.v. (weird, i know) and checking the updates regularly. As Travis Buck was walked to load the bases I had one of my “flashes” where I can see something before it happens. It happened earlier when I was listening to the game in the shower and I knew Vlad guerrero was gonna go deep on Harden…..Really!
So, Buck walks in the bottom of the 12th and I swear to God I could see Mark Ellis hit the first pitch he sees from Bootcheck for a walkoff Granny!!!!!!! I’m so stoked that we took this game and I hope next time it does not take the A’s 12 innings to do it. Big lift for the ballclub, though. Go A’s!!!
I was shocked by Ellis swinging at the first pitch
because Bootcheck’s control is so erratic I was sure Ellis would give him the chance to issue a walk or uncork a wild pitch. But today the A’s seemed determined to go “reverse psychology” on the Angels, who got ahead of hitters too easily Friday and Saturday.
For once I was right in sync with the batter. Like you, I wondered what the hell Ellis was looking for earlier when he took a 3-1 fastball down the middle in an RBI situation and then had to swing at a nasty 3-2 slider. (I’m still wondering.) But this time Ellis had to be figuring “Coming off a walk, with the bases loaded, this clown has to try to get ahead in the count.” Ellis isn’t the most gifted hitter, but he can turn on a fastball when he’s looking for it. Smack in the middle of the foul pole.
BTW, who was it that hit a walkoff earlier thisyear that just barel ticked off the left edge of the LF foul pole?
I was at that game vs Baltimore. I called it, too! I was sitting in LF, and watched it barely glance off. Ellis said he would have cried if it had gone foul.
I also called about six other events, so, with the LS HR, I was 1-for-7…..............8^))

Also, its not like his back-up is some has been. Bowen is also a young catcher, why doesn’t he get a chance. His numbers are similar to Suzuki.

I think that might be the wrong kind of craft.
drmmerchk - June 8, 2008
ah,
I was being literal. It’s a much cooler nickname in Spanish
149 - June 8, 2008
whew
just got out of that one. classic street!
phastphill - June 8, 2008
STREET IS ON FIRE!
Zonis - June 8, 2008

drmmerchk - June 8, 2008
Utter Hotness!
Englishmajor - June 8, 2008
I prefer True Hottness :)
schmifty - June 8, 2008
WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO
I can breath again!
GeorgiaBoy - June 8, 2008
way to get out of that inning...
drink409 - June 8, 2008
Nice.
Elvez - June 8, 2008
Aw yeah!
Let’s go, A’s!
Coach Cleats - June 8, 2008
Robo Angel is Borken
Zonis - June 8, 2008
I like how Ken said
“In the 9th, it’ll be Hannahan, Petit, and Raj Davis…and then if anyone gets on, Emil Brown.” I guess Hannahan could get on.
Nico - June 8, 2008
Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gonna be hard to socre with what is coming up but you never know.
A lead off home run would be extra special
Trainman - June 8, 2008
Sometimes the least likely candidates get the job done.
Flashfire - June 8, 2008
Raj Davis IF single
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
But how are going to score?
No Cust. No Chavez.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
Not loving this inning's lineup
Who else in on the bench?
iglew - June 8, 2008
Punch hit Dana Eveland
Zonis - June 8, 2008
Wasnt Greg Smith a
good hitter in college?
asfaninpismobeach - June 8, 2008
Ray Fosse
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
GOD DAMNIT KOTCHMAN!
Zonis - June 8, 2008
Zonis - June 8, 2008
At least our #3 is .333
When we´re gonna have one of those again…lol
vieira - June 8, 2008
One thing I do not expect
A Raj Davis HR.
Flashfire - June 8, 2008
How about
a bunt triple?
Wooka - June 8, 2008
All that work Street did and not even a hint of offense
Coffee13eans - June 8, 2008
Or a Raj Davis anything.
Syphon - June 8, 2008
about as likely as two-buck chuck would have been.
ak_A - June 8, 2008
Davis caught the bug
K’s looking
Zonis - June 8, 2008
Kotchman is such a bitch
149 - June 8, 2008
Another called strike three.
Coach Cleats - June 8, 2008
Well that was unfortunately incredibly predictable.
drmmerchk - June 8, 2008
It's going to take about 6 singles in an inning to score the winning run!
Coach Cleats - June 8, 2008
or five walks
phastphill - June 8, 2008
this doesn't look good
phastphill - June 8, 2008
I don't know how many innings
it would take this lineup to score a run
GeorgiaBoy - June 8, 2008
If they were lucky enough to still be tied
I would say about the 36th inning
Trainman - June 8, 2008
E1, E3, E5 on the same play
drink409 - June 8, 2008
PROPS to Barton
for not trying to field that
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
See, PROOF
The A’s will be better in ‘09 than ‘08
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
Crosby has a "slight" ankle sprain
in other words….
Englishmajor - June 8, 2008
he's day to day
149 - June 8, 2008
Yet another player to the DL in a few days
Coffee13eans - June 8, 2008
start digging!
phastphill - June 8, 2008
did that just happen
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
I believe Travis Buck will get a hit next at bat
Trainman - June 8, 2008
That was an impressive way to stay with it
Flashfire - June 8, 2008
wow, petit. nice throw
phastphill - June 8, 2008
TRADE JOE BLANTON
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
Good job there Petit
Trainman - June 8, 2008
Cros would not have made
a) that stop
b) that throw
149 - June 8, 2008
I disagree
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
I'm back on the Bones wagon
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
+1
and cros would have caught that line drive in the 8th too.
phastphill - June 8, 2008
OK
you’re right, he would’ve thrown…. over Barton’s head
149 - June 8, 2008
just a personal observation
but Cros has a hard time throwing across his body when moving to his right. This is, in my unscientific observation, when he makes his worst throws to 1st.
149 - June 8, 2008
of course
you try doing that with a turned ankle
Tizoc - June 8, 2008
OK, leading off: Our OBP machine!!!!
Nico - June 8, 2008
did the ump just say HEE...HAW
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
ha
I prefer howdy dooty!
phastphill - June 8, 2008
LOLS
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
boy
4.5 back looks a lot better than 6.5`
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
We making getting out look easy
Nico - June 8, 2008
Ellis had a good pitch to hit
which he looked at and Buck should have swung at at least 2 of the 4 he looked out.
Have to hold them down and hope next time
Trainman - June 8, 2008
We need Cust and Chavez back in the lineup
Coffee13eans - June 8, 2008
is there anyone in our lineup
are happy to see up? Or you think has a chance of getting a hit?
Maybe CarGo, but that’s only b/c he’s an unknown entity.
GeorgiaBoy - June 8, 2008
we essentially suck offensively,
and Geren took our offense out in a big gamble
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
most of our guys have aout 20 to 30% chance of getting a hit.
to answer your question, i’m pretty happy to see cargon, buck occasionally, hannahan and barton rarely, brown davis ellis & suzuki almost never.
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Lolz I think
most guys have a 20-30% chance of getting a hit. I think it’s guys like Chipper Jones, who’s got over a 40% chance of getting a hit are the type who really stand out. lolz
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
Like we need to walk someone who is going to steal second
Trainman - June 8, 2008
C'mon Brown
WTF are you doing out there
Trainman - June 8, 2008
YAY.
A strike.
danmerqury - June 8, 2008
Ziggy comes in!
Englishmajor - June 8, 2008
no pressure
149 - June 8, 2008
Weeks just had a big double for miami.
GeorgiaBoy - June 8, 2008
is that game on tv?
phastphill - June 8, 2008
I watched him yesterday
for a little while. He’s definitely quick.
149 - June 8, 2008
Ok, conflicting emotions
Zigg7 is an AN Favorite, and has an ERA of 0.00…
But he’s allowed a ton of inherited runners to score…
Zonis - June 8, 2008
he had a few on base the other day when he came in
friday i think? gave up a sac fly and no other runs.
let’s hope for that, minus the sac fly, today :)
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Bar Mitzvah
Today he becomes a man.
oaklandSMASH - June 8, 2008
Put Buck at 5th infielder!
Not really, but wanted to say that.
Nico - June 8, 2008
no kidding
I think he looked at a strike today ZOMG!
phastphill - June 8, 2008

Please score now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trainman - June 8, 2008

apilgrim - June 8, 2008
The second-best part of that play
was leaving Vlad in the on-deck circle.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
Thank you, in advance,
for scoring in the bottom of the 11th and not facing Vlad in the 12th.
Nico - June 8, 2008
RATS
THAT was the pitch
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
I will give Barton $5 for every home run he hits during this inning.
CoryC123 - June 8, 2008
Why does he not want free money?
CoryC123 - June 8, 2008
In line for the W- is Ziggy

phastphill - June 8, 2008

SwampyD - June 8, 2008

asfansince1989 - June 8, 2008

phastphill - June 8, 2008

SwampyD - June 8, 2008
zookoff > zookout
phastphill - June 8, 2008
ON YOUR FEET!
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Zonis - June 8, 2008
Vlad's heels are a tad uneven.
danmerqury - June 8, 2008
Can't argue with the color scheme though.
CoryC123 - June 8, 2008
not that there's anything wrong with it
149 - June 8, 2008
Isn't that a clip from Angels in the Outfield
That movie is retarded.
oaklandSMASH - June 8, 2008

SwampyD - June 8, 2008
Walking Vlad
It may not work out, but I sure don’t blame Ziegler for avoiding him.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
agreed
phastphill - June 8, 2008
i call that "working out"!
phastphill - June 8, 2008
i've been dressed for jog in the rain for a while now.
ak_A - June 8, 2008
It's sunny here
but I’m dressed for a run myself. Unfortunately, the game is dragging on so long that I will have to pick up my daughter instead – unless the game ends soon.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
jinxing us already?
Zonis - June 8, 2008
I'm trying to be optimistic
We could win quick in the bottom of the inning. I’d have time for a quick run in that case.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
There, part one accomplished
Now we need to score in the bottom of the inning.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
I'm on the East Coast this week
it’s a thousand degrees… I’m dressed for AC
149 - June 8, 2008
46 degrees here.
ak_A - June 8, 2008
Oakland is like 80 today
Perfect.
149 - June 8, 2008
so you're saying
you look roughly like Zonis’s photo above?
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Zonis - June 8, 2008
CoryC123 - June 8, 2008
Ziggy roxorz my boxorz,
By which I mean, he’s awesome. Was great to see him pitch for the first time too.
RenoTy - June 8, 2008
Great stuff Brad!!!!
Now can we get 3 errors in a row so we can score
Trainman - June 8, 2008

Nico - June 8, 2008
now * that's * generous!
149 - June 8, 2008
LOL
Trainman - June 8, 2008
In an effort to help the team
I will be listening to this half inning instead of watching as everytime I have gone to watch the TV they have done nothing
Trainman - June 8, 2008
Bootcheck
Our lineup is lame, but we have a chance against this guy.
bear88 - June 8, 2008
Our favorite Angels reliever
Buttcheek!
Englishmajor - June 8, 2008
I like "just (not) inspired"
iglew - June 8, 2008
we own this dude
the 12th inning needs to be a winner
KCB58 - June 8, 2008
Everyone "owns" Bootlick
we’re part of the syndicate though
149 - June 8, 2008
Weird thing is, if you search for Ziegler...
the first results are nude paintings by Adolf Ziegler, a picture of “man’s dream” featuring a guy sitting in a recliner while getting a BJ from a hot girl, a cig in hand, and another hot girl pouring a pitcher of beer into his mouth, while watching Germany kick England’s ass in presumably soccer, and finally a very disgusting stomach injury pic.
Zonis - June 8, 2008
I guess I know who turned off his 'adult filter' in Google's image search
Flashfire - June 8, 2008
gotta turn safesearch off
otherwise you miss out on life’s little serendipities.
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Where "serendipities" =
lots of naked women, no matter what you search for.
iglew - June 8, 2008
well ... yeah :)
phastphill - June 8, 2008
unless you're searching "Harden"....

BigTuna - June 8, 2008
OK Emil
You have to be pissed at sitting because you have sucked so concentrate.
This may be the biggest RBI of the year for you
Trainman - June 8, 2008
boy howdy, nice, but for us, getting a guy

ak_A - June 8, 2008
Brown wins it right here.
Vacafan - June 8, 2008
Can Brown bunt?
asfansince1989 - June 8, 2008

Zonis - June 8, 2008

speaking of which, after his hot start, the Lasik doesn’t appear to have helped afterall.

drmmerchk - June 8, 2008
Just in time
for a quick, happy run.
The difference between 41/2 back and 6 1/2 back, not to mention avoiding the sweep, is quite important.

I had turned away

phastphill - June 8, 2008
Do we have the Jaymee Sire fan club going yet?
(Did I spell it right?)
Vacafan - June 8, 2008
Can I be the captain
SwampyD - June 8, 2008
Yeah man .... I thought it was just me ... glad to see someone else appreciates
what an incredibly gifted and intelligent journalist she is. :-)
Vacafan - June 8, 2008
Fucking channel 13 went black when Ellis came to bat
I was listening on radio, ran in there and the screen was black with a KCOP13 in the corner.
I rewound the DVR and it was black all the way back to Brown K’ing
Some POS Angel fan probably had they delay button and pulled the plug as he saw the ball leaving the ballpark
Trainman - June 8, 2008
Wow! from London.
Incroyable. We’re here, just came back from the pub,,,well, actually we’ve been back for a while drinking port, listening to Queen, and watching the A’s. Grandslammer for Ellis! Go A’s!
alamedaman - June 8, 2008
congrats
to Brad Ziegler for his first major league win.
apilgrim - June 8, 2008
DAMN MY 13 LOS ANGELES
Like i needed another reason to hate the Angels!
OakLgb - June 8, 2008
Another reason?
You must not post on this site enough.
oaklandSMASH - June 8, 2008
Run diff. for the 3 game series = 0
GeorgiaBoy - June 8, 2008
LOL
phastphill - June 8, 2008
We just can't win one-run games
Good with the four-run games though!
Nico - June 8, 2008
Here I was going to come up with a long post (or diary)
about how hard it is for the A’s to come back when tied or 1-run-down in late innings, because pinch run and defensive replacements gut the offense.
Guess there’s no need for that now.
phastphill - June 8, 2008
Would anyone believe me?
Go A’s!!!
mrod - June 8, 2008
I also hope you can see TB sweeping the Angels
and about 10 of their players going on the DL in the next week.
And just for good measure, how about an Angels bandwagon with the 41,000 new fans they got in 2002 going over a cliff.
Trainman - June 8, 2008
Consider it done mate!
And just for good measure I’ll have Mike Sciosia driving the train that takes the plunge! “All aboard!”
mrod - June 8, 2008
I was shocked by Ellis swinging at the first pitch
because Bootcheck’s control is so erratic I was sure Ellis would give him the chance to issue a walk or uncork a wild pitch. But today the A’s seemed determined to go “reverse psychology” on the Angels, who got ahead of hitters too easily Friday and Saturday.
Nico - June 8, 2008
No no no
For once I was right in sync with the batter.
Faust - June 8, 2008
I had no problem with Ellis swinging at the first pitch,
I just didn’t think he would.
Nico - June 8, 2008
That was also Ellis
I was at that game vs Baltimore. I called it, too! I was sitting in LF, and watched it barely glance off. Ellis said he would have cried if it had gone foul.
I also called about six other events, so, with the LS HR, I was 1-for-7…..............8^))
One won lost won - June 8, 2008
