the A’s. Guys like Jack H, Barton and Cust are not good hitters-well not good contact hitters. They are never going to do well against guys that pound the strikezone.
I think will be a Olerud type player-well hopefully. But like I have said many times on this site ” You never know” Almost all of us thought DJ was going to be a a very good MLB hitter.
He was really bad for a couple months at the start of AAA last year, then caught fire, then slowed down a bit, then was great in Sept in the Majors. He’ll get on a roll at some point this year—the question is for how long. And in the long run, he needs to get more consistent.
back on the Island. No shit man, I watched a show about him. He talked about playing stick ball and being able to hit anything. Including balls that bounced first.
even though if anyone actually paid attention, they would win every time against him.
All you have to do is take every pitch he throws until he throws a fastball down the middle, to which you nail it. Rod throws nothing but sliders, low and away, out of the strike zone. So if you don’t swing, you’ll just walk. Eventually he gets fed up, grooves one, and if you hit it, you’re good.
But everyone just swings and misses at the sliders outside for some reason.
... but do you think Geren considers PHing for him against a righty closer in this situation? Let’s say it was Cust or the like, a decent LH hitter. Do you pull the trigger?

New thread mojo working
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
I hope this new thread works!!!
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
Hopefully Hannahan knows we are on a new thread
Suzuki did
Trainman - June 6, 2008
I'll give him the sign
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Apparently, it did.
Suzuki doubles.
VORP is too nerdy - June 6, 2008
Gotta score, though
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
Yay Kurt again!
(new thread version)
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
only one out....excellent.
ak_A - June 6, 2008
I'm rubbing my hands together
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
DOH!
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
oppo field single coming up
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Angels radio announcers says
“grounder to short, that ends…...................... No, there’s only 2 outs”
Trainman - June 6, 2008
LOLS
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
They're probably still better than Physioc and Hudler
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Actually the are pretty good considering
Trainman - June 6, 2008
yay
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
shit!!!!
athleticsBB4life - June 6, 2008
sigh.....yet again
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
Wow
Lackey is fucking good. I cant talk shit about the A’s tonight. Lackey is just a better pitcher then they are hitters.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
I get no comfort from that fact
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Lackey & King Felix own the A's
athleticsBB4life - June 6, 2008
and so does Ervin Santana
I am confident Harden can shut them down but can we score a run
Trainman - June 6, 2008
ack.
but nice to hear that trumpet guy… (hope he plays theme from i love lucy)
ak_A - June 6, 2008
We still have three more innings to score 2 runs.
The bullpen needs to hold!!
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
And Blanton too
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Hopefully he'll run up against his pitch count in the 7th.
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Well another run doesn't matter
since we can’t score in the first place.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Nick - June 6, 2008
3 runs is like 30
Trainman - June 6, 2008
Good command pitchers own
the A’s. Guys like Jack H, Barton and Cust are not good hitters-well not good contact hitters. They are never going to do well against guys that pound the strikezone.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Pitchers like that are usually good against anyone
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Barton is 22
it’s way, way, way too early to say he’ll never “do well against guys that pound the strikezone.”
Nick - June 6, 2008
The thing is, Barton's minor league track record suggest that he IS a contact hitter
Barton should be a high average, high obp, doubles but no HR guy.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Barton
I think will be a Olerud type player-well hopefully. But like I have said many times on this site ” You never know” Almost all of us thought DJ was going to be a a very good MLB hitter.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
I never thought DJ was going to be as good as Barton.
I thought of Barton as Olerud minus defense, and DJ as Ben Broussard.
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
I thought Dj would have a nice bat with 22-25 Homers.
But others including scouts thought he would be average to above average with some pop.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Ok
right now he is not good against anyone but we are all hoping that he improves.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
He's been incredibly streaky
He was really bad for a couple months at the start of AAA last year, then caught fire, then slowed down a bit, then was great in Sept in the Majors. He’ll get on a roll at some point this year—the question is for how long. And in the long run, he needs to get more consistent.
Nick - June 6, 2008
Streaky?
I hope so bro. He had the 2nd worse May ever in Oakland A’s history. There have been some shitty ass hitters in the A’s history.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Well, Barton isn't a "shitty ass hitter."
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
Gotta swing at the first pitch against this guy
You need a combination of 10 Emil Brown’s aggressive wise and 10 Babe Ruth’s hitting wise.
Trainman - June 6, 2008
I'm imagining Emil Ruth
He’s funny looking. Now imagine 10 of them
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Like I said
Gotta swing at the first pitch.
See what Cust can do when he is aggressive
Trainman - June 6, 2008
Jack wasn't happy when he read this.
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Chad looks like an
overgrown Leprachan-or how ever you spell it.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
CRUSHED!!!
paradox - June 6, 2008
fun!!
paradox - June 6, 2008
Jack Cust remembered how to hit!?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Cust HR
Goodbye, Lackey.
VORP is too nerdy - June 6, 2008
Good Job Jack Cust!!!!
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
At least we arn't gunna get shutout right?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Yea but I hope it's not going to be our only run
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
Zonis - June 6, 2008
nice job cust.
but as billy idol used to say….more more more
ak_A - June 6, 2008
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Can we plz have the 2007 version of Buck (minus injuries) ???
Please?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Yay Daric!
WaddellCanseco - June 6, 2008
Gaudin and Embree up
Blanton’s done.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Weird how
a Righty like lackey is so much more effective against Lefty hitters.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Suzuki's gonna need 5 minutes
Tizoc - June 6, 2008
That'll leave a mark
Not good on bobblehead night, either.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
Got close to the mini Bobblehead
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Ouch!
Zook got hit in ” No mans land”
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
I guess Jennifer can cross another guy off that list of hers.
Nick - June 6, 2008
LOL
Trainman - June 6, 2008
LOL
Alot of guys cringed right there also. Alot of crotch grabbing and shaking the head.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Yeah, but we're pretty much always grabbing our crotches, anyway.
Nick - June 6, 2008
HAHAHAHAH
Dont need alot of reasons to do that. Thats for sure.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Chad has the
pitching motion that our Second rounder from cal needs. A long step and follow through
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
How did Guerrero hit that?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Stickball
back on the Island. No shit man, I watched a show about him. He talked about playing stick ball and being able to hit anything. Including balls that bounced first.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
I would think CarGon has faced Arredondo before in the minors?
Trainman - June 6, 2008
Good News: Lackey is out
Bad News: Guy with even lower ERA is in.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
CarGon is having trouble getting hits
especially since he can only hit doubles…
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Gonzales
I love his stroke and he hits alot of balls hard but he is not going to walk ever I dont think. He loves to swing that bat.
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
Anyone else get the feeling that Suzuki is destined for backup duty?
He’s hitting Kendall-esque
Zonis - June 6, 2008
NRAF HERE
I just got a text message saying injury delay…did suzuki take one in the manparts, or what happened? any lengthy consequences?
rungood - June 6, 2008
fouled off to the man parts
but he’s ok
Tizoc - June 6, 2008
cheers-
thanks for keeping me in the know. i was worried that someone’s leg actually fell off, given our injury history in recent years
rungood - June 6, 2008
That's be a horrible way for that leg to fall off.
Rickeyfan - June 6, 2008
UMP = Very Inconsistant
Zonis - June 6, 2008
WHAT THE FUCK?
HE WAS SAFE!
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Nope, not out.
Terrible call.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
He was fuckin safe!
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
gad.
ak_A - June 6, 2008
looks like we're gonna have to get the walkoff win...
against F*k-Rod… with the umps callin’ outs like that.
FoolshGame22 - June 6, 2008
Gotta get to K-Rod
I cannot watch that clown with hsi sky pointing celebrations
Trainman - June 6, 2008
Kry-Rod owns the A's
even though if anyone actually paid attention, they would win every time against him.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
I wouldn't say 3-5 with 4 blown saves in 44 games is really owning the A's.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
What's kind of ironic is that K-Rod's career save %
against the A’s is 84% – about what Street offers.
Nico - June 6, 2008
not like we're getting
any hits to knock him in anyway
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
oh look
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
COME ON BONES
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
shake 'em up, Hannah!
FoolshGame22 - June 6, 2008
1st and 2nd, 1 out! Yeah!
wait, nm, blind mice behind first, so 2 outs.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
2 on with one out?
why would we want that!
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
On the bright side
Crosby can’t GIDP now…
Zonis - June 6, 2008
and he hits a GIDP ball too...
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Meatball Please
belt high right down the middle with extra dressing
Trainman - June 6, 2008
terrible
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Anyone else find it kind of ironic that Jackahan starts hitting right when Chavy comes back?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Maybe he works better under intense pressure
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
Ok all
Im outa here. im going to meet a chick at a local pub. Go green and Gold, we will get their asses Sat. See you all Saturday
asfaninpismobeach - June 6, 2008
I'm sure we'll all be waiting to hear whether or not you scored.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
i'm all for your pursuit yielding success
but cmon now, don’t bail on your team! bros before hoes, right? ;)
rungood - June 6, 2008
Personally, I'd say "missed the call"
at 1B, but not “blown call” – it was very, very close.
Nico - June 6, 2008
Missed call, blown call, terrible call, etc.
It was the wrong call.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
didn't look that close...
in slow motion.
FoolshGame22 - June 6, 2008
We supposedly have the right hitters at the plate for K-Rod
Chavy has good numbers I think.
Trainman - June 6, 2008
If he doesn't get the breaking ball in the strike zone
Cust will get on base.
Nick - June 6, 2008
Yep
Cust would and shouls lay off that slider. I expect a walk from him at the very least
Trainman - June 6, 2008
In this case a walk really is almost as good as a HR
Nick - June 6, 2008
Cust will either K or BB
K because he can’t hit breaking pitches, Walk because KRod can’t throw his breaking pitches for strikes.
Zonis - June 6, 2008
HR
because KRod will throw a first pitch fastball down the pipe
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
so much for that. swinging at slop from here on out
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Chavy is 4-12
Cust is 0-1 and Ellis 2-11 so the lefties need to get to K-Rod
Trainman - June 6, 2008
I love Ellis as much as the next A's fan...
... but do you think Geren considers PHing for him against a righty closer in this situation? Let’s say it was Cust or the like, a decent LH hitter. Do you pull the trigger?
Joey C. - June 6, 2008
Bones
is pretty good
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
16 minutes to ground hog day.. lets do it.
ak_A - June 6, 2008
Uh-oh, it's Earl Holloway
Doesn’t that mean KIFR doesn’t feel the A’s have a pulse?
Nico - June 6, 2008
and a brisk thirty minute walk five to six days a week.
ak_A - June 6, 2008
Its time
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Barton HR to win
Worst that can happen is I’m wrong.
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
This is the A's
there’s always a worse
Zonis - June 6, 2008
yeah that is a dangerous comment around here
rungood - June 6, 2008
i tried
saying that when I went into the bank today to ask the teller out. I choked and didn’t do it
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Anyone else think that Cust is going to K?
Coffee13eans - June 6, 2008
Cust K's?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
boy what a bold prediction
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Full Count to Kust
I don’t really feel good about it though….
Zonis - June 6, 2008
down and outer part of the zone
aka Cust won’t swing at it
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
Zonis - June 6, 2008
Low, but you can't hope for the ball on that one
Flashfire - June 6, 2008
That looked like it hit the ground first
Zonis - June 6, 2008
nope, it was a liner
Zonis - June 6, 2008
that was the pitch
SwampyD - June 6, 2008
3-1 to Ellis
K?
Zonis - June 6, 2008
yup

All I ask tomorrow is we don't give up runs in the first 4 or 5 innings
We should be abel to tattoo Garland
Trainman - June 6, 2008
We have the matchups the last two games -
Just need to git it done.
Nico - June 6, 2008
The current hitters who have faced Garland in the past
are .266 against him.
Cust has 2 home runs off him.
Needless to say, we need to give Smith some run support tomorrow.
Trainman - June 6, 2008
dammit...
there goes our 21-game consecutive win streak.
FoolshGame22 - June 6, 2008
