Well, the good news is that Rich Harden seemed to survive his outing today even if it wasn't 100 percent stellar. But you have to imagine there has to be some rust there since he hasn't faced major league batters for about eight months.
Oh and don't look now, but apparently Bobby Crosby is injured once again. Thanks to SF Gate's Drumbeat for the note.
I know Susan Slusser says it's nothing to be alarmed about, but Crosby is just one of those players that has this happen to him all the time. I wonder if AN has had anyone down in Arizona yet who has seen Crosby swing. Is his swing all that different? It always seemed like something that could give him back issues throughout his career because he nearly corkscrews himself into the ground on each swing. Course I've always thought the same thing about Vlad and he doesn't seem to have any issues.
The A's are now 3-2 in the Cactus League and two players were hit by pitches today. They also just happen to be two of the A's most important players in Travis Buck and Jack Cust. Just a couple more reasons to hate those A-Holes in red.

First fundamental axiom of baseball
Crosby being scratched from the lineup=nothing to be alarmed about.

The Sky is Falling...
Oh, it's just Crosby's back again. If it was anyone else (almost) we wouldn't be thinking about it.
Gerard - March 3, 2008
Crosby? I thought he died?
Who cares. Just put in Donnie Murphy. And somebody tell stupid Scocia that it's freaking spring training!

Crosby and Vlad.
While I share mikeA's opinion about the non-importance of Crosby playing, it's a bit unfair to paint his injuries in the same kind of recurrent light you might use for a Harden or a Bradley. Mostly, he's achieved a unique combination of unlucky and sucky.
I don't know if his swing will bring him long-term back problems, as he'll need to be out of a cast for a sustained period of time for us to tell. But your observation of Vlad is apt. His struggles with back problems have increased, and promise to get worse. It's not surprising they want to make him a full-time DH at a relatively early age, despite still having the wheels and arm to play a corner outfield spot.

Vlad's a terrible RF
And has been for a very long time, great arm notwithstanding.

Buck was just grazed but Cust took a big hit in the back.
I didn't like how he went down the baseline, and he did come out of the game thereafter, but he did not seem upset or in much pain. Then again, if it keeps him out of the outfield, maybe our injury luck is turning.

But we just got here today -- no Crosby swings seen.
The Dogfather - March 3, 2008
It's just cuz he hit 2 home runs already
his body's not used to moving in that fashion.
pam5981 - March 3, 2008
By the way....
the only thing hotter than Cust's bat this spring is Pam!
since72 - March 3, 2008
In what fashion is it used to moving?
Err..never mind, I probably don't want to know...

Giggity!
thejd44 - March 3, 2008
Who?
I chalked this up to urban legend (apologies to Michael Urban) that there was a guy named Crosby who played SS for the Oakland A's. Must be that new machine the trainers bought this season, "The ISO 9000 Back Spasm Supreme." Looks like Joey Devine just tried it out, Chavez is the Nat'l Spokesman for it and Kotsay endorses it as well

Crosby's hurt?
Hey, look at that... the Sun is setting to the West!
grover - March 3, 2008
I was going to have the headline
Dog Bites Man, but that's probably more news than this.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 3, 2008
in Michael Vick's case it surely would be
67MARQUEZ - March 3, 2008
I know its reported as not being serious...
But if the back problems were to persist into to the regular season, and Murphy started the season in the starting lineup, who would be the leading candidates to win the utility role besides Petit?
Duby - March 3, 2008
You nailed it in one
Unless the A's make a late vet signing ala Todd Walker last year.
grover - March 3, 2008
Iron Man Bobby
I'll be in Phoenix next week and send out a report on Iron Man Bobby. He usually ends up at a mall after he injures himself.....
Morada Mudshark - March 3, 2008
I was gone all weekend and I log on to read that everyone is falling apart again. ::sigh:: I hope everyone is better by the time the season starts.
drmmerchk - March 3, 2008
I wonder if Crosby is hurt during the off-season?
This dude could get hurt eating a grilled cheese.
jjham15 - March 3, 2008
... and he'd just keep backing away from the plate
monkeyball - March 4, 2008
bobby cros(ouch! just pulled a tendon in my index finger)
hey it's only spring. Besides he was probably hung over and not really having back spasms. I still think he is gonna have a monster year. hey it's only spring. (OUCH! just tore a nail)
elephantman - March 3, 2008
Better now than in April
I'm glad Crosby is getting the injuries out early. Good for the system.
louismg - March 3, 2008
Unless it's just a prelude...
to the injuries to come. ( She wrote pessimistically).
