Oh, you didn't think it would be easy, did you?
After the A's setup men practially gift-wrapped a win for the A's, Street gave up a homerun Moss (his FIRST) to tie the game at 4.
We're playing extras. Because sometimes nine just isn't enough.

Ok, I guess we do need the extra inning mojo thread
Mabster - March 25, 2008
grumble grumble
Keze - March 25, 2008
Go A's!
FoolshGame22 - March 25, 2008
Yeah
and that thread was running slow anyway.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
I'm tired.
Jennifer - March 25, 2008
Apparently
so was Huston's arm.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
dangit street!
i love him, but always does this.
ErikFanClubPres - March 25, 2008
Street still in?
Uh...
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
Punishment for giving up a win

Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Why not? I like it
He's already in, no more save opps (to blow).

C'mon Street
We need a shutdown inning
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
A little too late for Street to bring his A game
athleticsgirl24 - March 25, 2008
1695 Comments for a 3am game.
Love ya, AN.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
It is pretty wild
Everyone predicted a quiet night. Not so much!

oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
He doesn't have chavez's arm, does he?
Mark A - March 25, 2008
Or his range or his glove or his technique.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
I just don't see all the hype
over Hannahan's defense.
Nico - March 25, 2008
I don't see it at all
I have Direct TV
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
there was hype?
Zabat - March 25, 2008
if there was don't believe it
Mark A - March 25, 2008
There was never hype, just hope
kbtoyz - March 25, 2008
Not true - all scouting reports
talked about his defense as being exceptional.
Nico - March 25, 2008
Scouts loved his D
Nico - March 25, 2008
nor does

sf drift king - March 25, 2008
Well, if we get Youk out, we can walk Ortiz
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
First base open means
pick poison on Ortiz/Manny (if you get Youk)
Nico - March 25, 2008
This isn't good is it?
athleticsgirl24 - March 25, 2008
That 1695 is a beautiful number.
Thanks to everyone. Win or lose, this was fun.

Dana Eveland warming up?

No

Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
Embree, Foulke, DiNardo
All former A's. So far, so good. Lets win it in the bottom half.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
Whoa.
Eveland is a lot smaller than I thought he was.
Boonee - March 25, 2008
Have some faith
people. Street will redeem himself.
sf drift king - March 25, 2008
Suzki has looked pretty good
blocking balls in the dirt
Keze - March 25, 2008
Yeah
Apart from one mishandled throw (which was probably a non-issue anyway) he's had a very good game defensively.

2007 A's : 11-5 in extra inning games
Let's start off 08 with another win.
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
Street looks good.
It's just that one pitch...I hate how baseball works sometimes.
Boonee - March 25, 2008
I don't think Thorne knows you say the balls then the strikes
Because he keeps saying "2-1" when it's 1-2. He's not confused by the count, he just doesnt know what he's doing.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
Thorne again errs with the count 2-1=/= 1-2
JediLeroy - March 25, 2008
Direct TV people don't feel too bad
Japanese broadcast TV just cut the game for some stupid game show. At least they went 1 hr. 22 min longer than they usuallly do

HigherPie - March 25, 2008
Huh... they think the A's are tired of Boston getting the attention.
Zabat - March 25, 2008
Asshats
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
That was hilarious
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
Gary makes the most obvious statement of the game
"Oakland is tired the Red Sox have gotten all the attention"
kbtoyz - March 25, 2008
If we get through the heart of the order
I'll feel a bit better about our chances - though Moss would be up in the 11th
JJ - March 25, 2008
There will be no 11th
Zabat - March 25, 2008

Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
FreakingStreet.
What an awful idea walking Ortiz to face Manny.
Just idiotic.
baseballgirl - March 25, 2008
Yup. Pitching to Ortiz, ok
Walking them both, ok. Geren made the one wrong call out of three choices, IMO.
Nico - March 25, 2008

louismg - March 25, 2008
Hitting with RISP
Difference in the game, as usual. Had a base open, didn't use it.
Nico - March 25, 2008
So now they pull Huston
Just a little late on the call
athleticsgirl24 - March 25, 2008
By the way
When will Bob Geren figure out how to use the bullpen?
Is he the only effing dumbass manager who puts the closer in for a 2nd inning after blowing the save? I say yes. Only him and people who drool on themselves.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
It's funny because he was the bullpen coach
But, apparently, never paid attention.
mikev - March 25, 2008
FIRE GEREN NOW?
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
I would've fired him around May of last year
Because for a former catcher, he doesn't seem to have one clue about how to handle a pitching staff.
Also, Thorne doesn't realize Sweeney isn't in center. God he's horrible.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
Shit.
Damnit.
I hate the Red Sox.

ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008
1 game...
Zabat - March 25, 2008
it's more than one game
One game this season, but I think Street has proven he is not an elite closer. Notice the hesitation to put him back in that role last season.
jeffro - March 25, 2008
I'm sorry but that's just "I'm upset right now" BS
Nico - March 25, 2008
That had nothing to do with ability
and was more about money than anything else.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
Huh?
I expected street to blow it. He blew more saves than anyone last year. I am pretty rational about it. I am not angry. And what did it have to do with money?
jeffro - March 25, 2008
Yeah. It happened too much last year. I love the guy but I'm just being honest.
ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008

IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008

oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008

athleticsgirl24 - March 25, 2008
What the hell.
I thought Eveland was coming in?
Boonee - March 25, 2008
DiNardo? They said it was Eveland in the pen. Stupid ESPN.
Zabat - March 25, 2008
Eveland can't play
not on the active roster for this game
3up3dn - March 25, 2008
eveland was up
he must have been getting in his side session cuz he is not on the 25-man roster for the series
KCB58 - March 25, 2008
Oh my GOD
Geren, I hope you eat some poisoned sushi you effing moron.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
Korach saying
That is was a good pitch to hit for Manny, and is incredulous that Street came in with an open base.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
Letting Manny beat you with a base open
in extra innings just isn't smart.
Nico - March 25, 2008
Letting Street throw a second inning
After already blowing the save:
Also not smart.
mikev - March 25, 2008
I don't agree
And Huston has done that successfully many times.
Nico - March 25, 2008
papi has looked terrible and we gave him a free pass
not smart
kbtoyz - March 25, 2008
Bad move by Geren IMO
Should have walked both Ortiz and Manny. I would have taken my chances with Lowell
3up3dn - March 25, 2008
Eveland's not even eligible
Nico - March 25, 2008
That's what I thought
Zabat - March 25, 2008
This was a totally
winable game. Lack of hitting with RISP. And Huston Choking to a minor leaguer.
Syphon - March 25, 2008
and now we pitch to the other guy in the lineup with RBIs?
dscel - March 25, 2008
Barton and Cust
Could tie it back up in short order.
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
Let's light up this river dancing freak!
Zabat - March 25, 2008
I've never been a huge Huston
fan. We've seen him do this one too many times in his young career.
By the way, how did Boston convince MLB to call these games "home" games for us and not them? I mean, seriously, is there a single A's fan in the crowd? F'n BS.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
I saw a green-and-gold cap in the vicinity of where Ellis's homer landed
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
I agree wholeheartedly and look at my username.
ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008
It's not that he isn't a nice guy
He's one of the friendliest, most polite kids you'll ever meet. I just don't want him signed to a long-term extension.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Great point. He's a "good enough" closer at the right value...
I don't think it would be smart to re-sign him either.
ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008
He used to be
consistently good. ..and last year I thought it stopped because he was hurting.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
Boston just told Selig
We're Boston and they're Oakland.
Make it so!
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
We get more money by being the hometeam
and the game would be over now if we weren't.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
Papelbon
Please choke like Huston did. Thank You.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
I would have had a lot of respect
for Geren if he had ordered both Ortiz and Manny walked. To me, that's the right move CW be damned.
Nico - March 25, 2008
CW = coventional wisdom
for those whose brains aren't working at 100% right now.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
agreed
67MARQUEZ - March 25, 2008
Agree.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
I think it comes down to the fact that
they probably didn't want to give Street no margin for error. With the bases loaded, one wild pitch and they're screwed. That's one of the pick your poison things when it comes to playing Boston.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
There's margin for error when you're throwing a pitch to Manny?
Nico - March 25, 2008
I can't tell you how many times I saw
a Boston game last year where they walked Manny and Lowell made them pay. Hell, just see World Series 2007 for reference on that.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Somewhere Linden is screaming at his TV
"I can save win game!"
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
I'm chalking this up to Geren's first loss of the year
because he's really, really clueless about pitching. I can't get over how asinine his moves, or lackthereof, are.
Let's use our closer for 2 innings after he's blown the save. Ugh. Just, ugh.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008
on that last fly ball
my twins fan roommate said: "if he didn't catch that, i'd go to japan myself and punch him in the face."
just the kind of violent talk i need right now.

before they realize the live feed is back on. This time:
"It looked like his legs are alright, trying to steal third".
Mabster - March 25, 2008
I was hoping Thorne would say something about picking up a Japanese hooker.
thejd44 - March 25, 2008

FoolshGame22 - March 25, 2008
of course
he gets a hit NOW
67MARQUEZ - March 25, 2008
Son of a bitch.
That would have been the tying run.
Mother fucker.
Boonee - March 25, 2008
Well guys this has just been so fun
But since shitty Royal's playing has come to bite us in th ass, I've gotta get ready for work. I'm already late. See everyone again tomorrow
athleticsgirl24 - March 25, 2008
I knew
I didnt like Brown. Fucking Royals.
sf drift king - March 25, 2008
Wow
Could've been a tied ball game now. F^^$
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
um, what happened?
JJ - March 25, 2008
Nice, solid single to CF
multi-hit game for Crosby. I doubt Emil scores on that hit, eh?
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
I hate these announcers.
We need to win this game. Their homerism has gone too far.
Boonee - March 25, 2008
Solid game for Crosby.
JJ - March 25, 2008
The new 3B could sure start strong here...
jefeboy - March 25, 2008
Crosby should steal second
Nico - March 25, 2008
(that's why)
Nico - March 25, 2008
Another single
We need one more.......
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
3 hard hit balls against Paps
snrubnivek - March 25, 2008
YES!
jefeboy - March 25, 2008
sure give me hope
67MARQUEZ - March 25, 2008
Now that Hannahan 1B would've scored the run
for sure
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
Way to go Emil...
we would have won the game now
smith1051 - March 25, 2008
C'mon
ROCK PAPELBON!! GET THAT DAMN HIT!!
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
Well
Even if that other hit didn't tie the game, that one would've. I hate you, Emil.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Emil
bringing his losing ways to Oakland.
sf drift king - March 25, 2008
That would have been your game-winner folks!
ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008
and the crowd goes silent...
as the A's hit the ball....
FoolshGame22 - March 25, 2008
Papelbon getting hit hard.
All solid knocks so far...
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
idiot!
ErikFanClubPres - March 25, 2008
it's too early in the morning for this
kind of adrenaline. also, i have to go to class soon... so just win it already!
whiteshoes40 - March 25, 2008
Ball 1
HigherPie - March 25, 2008

kbtoyz - March 25, 2008

smith1051 - March 25, 2008

ohtobe21likehuston - March 25, 2008
What's up stranger?
smith1051 - March 25, 2008

ErikFanClubPres - March 25, 2008

He was rocking 2B's all spring.
louismg - March 25, 2008

sf drift king - March 25, 2008

FoolshGame22 - March 25, 2008
f
ErikFanClubPres - March 25, 2008
These kind of
games take the heart out of a team.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
Bugger!
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
Is it too soon to cut Brown...
after the 1st game of the season?
smith1051 - March 25, 2008
Come on now.
Baserunning mistake. Very sad but he was on base at least.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
No excuse.
Absolutely no excuse whatsoever. None.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
We shoulda let Linden stay.
Mabster - March 25, 2008
There's no excuse
but these things happen sometimes. Players make mistakes...it's not good but it happens. We don't need to talk about getting rid of a player for ONE bad play.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
You're right that there is no excuse
but at least he delivered a freaking hit. Unlike Buck and Cust.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Gaff > Hit
:-)
And I'm not on the "cut him" train. Yet.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
The funny thing is
that isn't baserunning supposed to be something the A's concentrate on every spring training. Perhaps he was just trying to be overly aggressive thinking the throw was going to go past the cutoff man? Believe me, I'm not the biggest Brown fan...I honestly don't even really want him on the team, but I'd like to think he wasn't TRYING to be stupid. He just was.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
no way
since72 - March 25, 2008
Thanks a whole lot, street and brown
for losing our "home" opener.
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
thanks emil and huston
67MARQUEZ - March 25, 2008
Such bullshit.
Such incredible bullshit.
Fucking Brown. I'm going to boo the shit out of him one day.
But maybe this is just the 3am in me speaking up?
Boonee - March 25, 2008
That was one hell of a ballgame.
One we should have won, but didn't deserve to.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
paps got hit much harder than Street
snrubnivek - March 25, 2008
Fun times
As much as this clearly sucked, I'm just excited to have the A's back and baseball back. I'm living in NYC this year and I love checking this site to get back in touch with the Oakland faithful, go A's!
kbtoyz - March 25, 2008
Thanks Huston
First the BS Warriors and now this. What a shit day this is shaping out to be. Good luck everyone. F U Street
Swishdball - March 25, 2008
Wow
That game sucked. But I'll definitely say that even though a lot of attention will be put on Brown and Street, but the truth is that the A's are NOT going to win very many games this year if Buck and Cust look as absolutely clueless at the plate as they did tonight.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Great game, only a baserunning gaffe stopped
us from beating the WS champs who swept one of the hottest post-season team in MLB history.
Basebal_Equals_Life - March 25, 2008
Who is the 3rd base coach?
Was listening- did he help out emil?
(can I also complain that AN is incredibly slow on my machine? Firefox)
MobiusKlein - March 25, 2008
I enjoyed that, all things considered.
Ricky's will be open again tomorrow morning......for those RAFs who don't want to trust to Direct TV.
Great game, AN!
Englishmajor - March 25, 2008
what's happening? gameday says suzuki up and runs
kapers - March 25, 2008
Game over.
Suzuki grounded out.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
Thanks gameday. I leave the car when Cust is out, log on and see 6-5, Suzuki up, and RUNS
Guess I'll go to my frigging meeting now. Tomorrow? Maybe a win?
kapers - March 25, 2008
friggin ass Brown
How do you get thrown out on the basepaths at that point? I give him props for the hit but sheesh, get your head out of your ace.
gojohn10 - March 25, 2008
That was...not how I wanted it to end.
salb918 - March 25, 2008
I was tasting that win
now those dickbags in Boston are celebrating again.
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
Well, Brown's on the poop list for a while.
Gromit1025 - March 25, 2008
Well
he is Brown
oaklandSMASH - March 25, 2008
The A's showed us some good stuff.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
I agree
There's good stuff, but there's still the bad. And the bad's pretty bad.
Gromit1025 - March 25, 2008
And some bad.
I don't mean to bark at you in 2 straight comments, but: 4 hits in the first 9 innings, blown save, bad managing, baserunning fuck up for the ages, and RISP problems continue.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
It's ok.
There was some shitty game play too. But it wasn't all bad...and we played the other team close. I see some potential.
IM4Oakgal - March 25, 2008
Agreed.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
No matter how frustrated I am right now...
I'll see you guys tomorrow morning.
Thanks for the good times tonight guys (but still...fucking Emil).
LETS GO OAKLAND!
Boonee - March 25, 2008
Agreed
SirDan - March 25, 2008
I'll be back.
Hoping to fall asleep at like 8 tonight and not feel terrible tomorrow.
HigherPie - March 25, 2008
New AN doesn't like a lot of comments.
It's slower than frozen... something.
Jennifer - March 25, 2008
clockwerks and company
are already working on it.
Tyler Bleszinski - March 25, 2008
thank you
I'm also running slower than... something right now. Can they work on that?
Jennifer - March 25, 2008
thanks
for saying what I was thinking.
sf drift king - March 25, 2008
I told you Billy wouldn't play...
the right guys. Where were Linden and Conrad in the bottom of the 10th? ;-)
FoolshGame22 - March 25, 2008
GAME RECAP UP!
GAME RECAP UP!!!!!
baseballgirl - March 25, 2008
That
was the best 3:00 AM game I've ever been apart of.
