Happy Leap Day, AN!
As a kid I thought a February 29th birthday was the ultimate short-term pain, long-term gain.
Sure, you'd only get a birthday cake and presents every four years. But one day you would be the most feared "6-year-old" in the history of T-Ball. And at age "10" - with back hair and a grey goatee, in the twilight of your career - you could put the ole' Little League team on your back one last time, terrifying prepubescent hitters on the mound and carrying the squad all the way to Williamsport.
What can we learn from this story?
After a 7-1 loss in yesterday's opener, The A's conclude the month of February and their two-game series with the Brewers this afternoon at 12:05. Dallas Braden gets the start for the A's, while righthander Dave Bush and lefty Manny Parra (one of the Brewers' best prospects) are each scheduled to throw two innings for the Brew Crew. Eric Gagne is scheduled to appear as well.
Looking ahead to the rest of the weekend: Saturday vs. Giants @ 12:05 p.m., Sunday vs. Rockies at 12:05 p.m.

Kotsay still grounding out to 2nd...
So far he hasn't pulled a Kendall.
Zonis - February 29, 2008
But Chavy did pull a Kotsay...
out 4-5 days with lower back stiffness.
Getting an epidural? So he's experiencing preemptive sympathy labor pains?
calgbear - February 29, 2008
he was put through a workout yesterday
and were to be judged on his progress based on how he felt after the workout.
Evidently, not good.

Do the announcers know that the Braves
have a new GM? They act like Schuerholz is still the GM! They also just said that Bobby Cox was the GM in charge of the draft just now.
Zonis - February 29, 2008
Rick Honeycutt sighting!
Zonis - February 29, 2008
Disgusting
They HAD to bring the RedSox into this.

Englishmajor - February 29, 2008

micdog2001 - February 29, 2008
Infield single by Ellis...2 guys on!
Where IS everyone?
baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
Really.
I guess that was all the winter pent-up demand yesterday....either that or everyone was so inspired they are all at the game!
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
After Cust's HR
it DOES sound like half of AN is at the game!

OaklandSi - February 29, 2008

weird?
micdog2001 - February 29, 2008
It's Buan's computer
baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
Not sure if he knows how to turn it off
Or if it's part of his "please email me, please" strategy. Like having the phones ringing in the background during public radio pledge drives.
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
{gasp!}
Next thing, you'll tell us that the tote bags and coffee cups are made using slave labor.
monkeyball - February 29, 2008
No, just the programs
But seriously -- I didn't mean to imply that the phones are fake, just that there is no reason to have the sound of them on the air, except that it encourages people to call (maybe).
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
Ellis singles, Buck to 2nd
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
Bases loaded

baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
Hoping for a triple play
Just to see how Buan would call it.
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
I lose.
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
Can you have a grand slam
and a triple play on the same play?
Runner from third scores, runner from second never touches home plate and is passed on the basepaths by the batter and the runner from first?
Would that work, or would there only be two outs?
PaulThomas - February 29, 2008
Then the batter misses 2nd base, appeals 3 outs
theblackpearl - February 29, 2008
bases are drunk!!

New AN 3.0 Bug (or Feature)
I had actually composed a comment about Suzuki's single, but as I hit Preview, the text of my first comment in this thread reappeared in the box. I had already decided to post the Suzuki comment so I clicked on Post before I realized that the text in the box had changed. Then when I tried to post a new comment, the text of other comments I made in this thread kept reappearing -- I had to close the window and come back to AN in order to post this. Very strange.
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
that's a bug
what browser and operating system are you using?
Trei Brundrett - February 29, 2008
Safari on Tiger
I have now changed over to Firefox, but I can't get audio to work here. (see upcoming reply to Blez).
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
safari 2 or 3?
Trei Brundrett - February 29, 2008
Safari 3, sorry
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008

HigherPie - February 29, 2008
haha Kendall getting heckles
Zonis - February 29, 2008
Hilarious...
baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
As is Buan's reaction
"gee golly gosh, what's that all about?"
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
THATS the Kendall I know
Zonis - February 29, 2008
Kendall grounds into a 6-4-3 DP...OF COURSE HE DID!
baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
But at least he can see...
the ball off his bat with greater clarity.
franks a lot - February 29, 2008
yeah, I don't think his eyes
were the problem
OaklandSi - February 29, 2008
Kendall does, what Kendall did best for the
A's
theblackpearl - February 29, 2008
the gameday audio
Live boxscore is anything but. It still says 1-0 Brewers (real score A's 4, Brewcrew 1)
micdog2001 - February 29, 2008
The A's putting up a crooked number
Overwhelmed the system.
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
Overwhelmed me, for sure!
baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
I still can't get the audio
And all apologies to those who own Macs, but I never had an issue with this when I owned a PC. UGH!
Tyler Bleszinski - February 29, 2008
It's fine on my Mac
What browser are you using?
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
Firefox
The most recent version. It looks like it comes up OK, but audio just isn't there.
Tyler Bleszinski - February 29, 2008
Can you hear other online audio?
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
Yeah
I was just listening to a podcast a little while ago. It's got me perplexed. I feel like I'm missing the spring!
Tyler Bleszinski - February 29, 2008
I just switched to Firefox from Safari to see what's up
and when I go to sign in to Gameday Audio, the spaces for entering my email address and password won't allow me to input. I tried to find an alternative place to sign in, but no luck so far. Is this what's happening to you, or are you signed in but just not hearing anything.
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
You can sign in
On the MLB.com homepage (top right in tiny letters).
Once you do that, when the audio box pops up, you shouldn't have to log in again.
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
I'm signed in
At least that's what it seems like and it looks like the audio is streaming, but I'm just not hearing anything.
Tyler Bleszinski - February 29, 2008
Turn on your speakers. :)
theblackpearl - February 29, 2008
Sorry buddy...
The only other thing I can think of is to try the "Original Media Player" if you're on the new one, or vice versa. (There's a link for that on the top right of the media player)
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
Yeah, I switched back to Firefox
could log in, thanks to HP, but couldn't hear anything until I used the Original Recipe player.
Englishmajor - February 29, 2008
For some reason
I always seem to have problems EVERY single year during spring training with the audio.
Tyler Bleszinski - February 29, 2008
Whoa, the whole broadcast team is around
guess they are getting ready for Sat's game
micdog2001 - February 29, 2008
Lenny Di Nardo is now on the mound,
theblackpearl - February 29, 2008

I can't get the gameday stuff at work and the "live" boxscore is a joke. Can anybody give a quick summery since the Jack Cust bomb?
Thanks
GreenAndGoldFish - February 29, 2008
Really nothing has happened. DiNardo is in...

Per the A's website
The first radio game is tomorrow. Not sure how accurate that is.........
GreenAndGoldFish - February 29, 2008
that's what i just saw too
good looking out. this is too exciting already.
flipgatey3 - February 29, 2008
It's accurate
7 of the ~23 A's Spring games will be on the radio, the first being tomorrow's game. The rest are all MLB.com audio (Buancasts) only.
HigherPie - February 29, 2008
There is a link to the broadcast schedule on my recent Fanpost
I couldn't find it so I asked AN and they found it. The Post is titled "ST games on the radio?"

baseballgirl - February 29, 2008
Langerhans would have made that play!
Nostalgic for that electric week last seasons, when our outfield was All-Star Caliber!
Uh, AA-All Stars..
One won lost won - February 29, 2008
Conrad
I remember after the '06 season in which Conrad had a pretty monster year at AA, a decent amount of knowledgeable 'stros fans wanted him to start at 2B instead of Biggio in '07. Then Conrad crashed and burned in AA last season hitting under .200.
BlueMoonNades - February 29, 2008

OR are there more games being aired this year then last year?
That being said, when the hell are the A's going to get off their asses and move into the 21st century. It is rediculus that the only way to get 100% of the games is through a format that entertained our Grandparents when they were kids. Television has been around for over 60 years, it is time for the team that would be from Silicon Valley to board the train!
