Well, the Phils moved on past the Brewers earlier today on the back of our own Bazooka Joe, who piched a fantastic game for Philadelphia. The SOUTH siders lived to fight another day as they held off the Rays. Now, we're down to BoSox - Angels, Game 4.
Beckett labored through his first 2 innings, throwing 51 pitches and walking 3 while giving up 1 run in the process. BoSox have yet to get the sticks going. 1-0 Halos in the bottom of the 2nd...

Napoli looks like Blanton's hairier, catcher brother.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Don’t insult Blanton that way :-P
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
For a second, I thought you said "hairier, catchier brother"
and I thought, “Is Napoli really that much of a catch?”
Nick - October 5, 2008
He's catchi*er*
salb918 - October 5, 2008
I think you have the makings of a screenplay here, Jennifer
It’s like The Parent Trap, only with baseball! Twins separated at birth, one ends up the catcher on the AL champion, the other a pitcher on the NL champion, and they discover the truth during the World Series….
Englishmajor - October 5, 2008
AL Champion?
No, please.

this game is such a win-win for me
-red sox lose at home, massholes go home unhappy
-angels get swept out of the playoffs yet again
xbhaskarx - October 5, 2008

This is exactly how I feel about it and it is awesome.

Jennifer - October 5, 2008
By the end of the game
the Massholes might be too drunk to know they’re unhappy.
Or to know how to get home.
Nick - October 5, 2008
I just said basically this same thing to my dad and he didn’t appreciate it. :-\

Wow the story of the Angels post-season
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
HA HA HA!
Englishmajor - October 5, 2008
RIDICULOUS.

How the hell does a single clear the bases.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Grand slam single!
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Grand slam error.
Rocktopus - October 5, 2008
Who gets the error?
I believe they rule that a single
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Really? Shame.
Rocktopus - October 5, 2008
Scored as a single
first 3 run single in postseason history. gotta love it!
eastcoasta'sfan - October 5, 2008
LOL

Angels are out to set a major league record for FAIL pics.

ak_A - October 5, 2008
That was very gritty.
Nick - October 5, 2008
Ellis catches that
Nico - October 5, 2008
Not if Crosby body-checks him
Nick - October 5, 2008
And the added degree of difficulty
of the CFer… Ryan? Carlos? Someone definitely dies if that happened to the A’s.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
I think Gallego once broke his arm colliding with Javier on a blooper to center
Nick - October 5, 2008
You could see that going totally wrong
right from the beginning.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Torii Hunter is not a very good "ALDS fielder" is he?
Nico - October 5, 2008
yeah but on the positive side that's only 3 games a year!
xbhaskarx - October 5, 2008

::sigh:: it reminds me of the good ol’ days when my friends and I would call that kind of error “pulling an Angels” because it seemed like every time a fly ball split any players it would drop between them.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
White Sox are the SOUTHSIDERS
and it’s fun to see the Slegna err their way to obliviion
OaklandSi - October 5, 2008
I think either way, I'm picking the Rays to win it all anyway.
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
It always sucks when your team beats themselves. My aunt gave up and turned her TV off lol
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
BWHAAAAABWHAAAAAA....
I finally stopped laughing. I’m tempted to go over to HH to see how well that particular gaffe was received!
The lifeless bloody red pulp lying on the field would be the heart of the Angels. Feel free to kick it on your way by.

i nominate for them the Fake LA FAILos
Asfan4ever723 - October 5, 2008

I think the Cubbies had those for breakfast yesterday morning.
Nick - October 5, 2008
Oops.
Nico - October 5, 2008
What in God's name happened to Josh Beckett?
He is terrible now.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
oblique injury
OaklandSi - October 5, 2008
His fastball has velocity, but it's hittable (straight?)
so he’s throwing tons of breaking pitches and the Angels are on them now.
Nico - October 5, 2008
And we have a ballgame! I hope it keeps going back and forth. More fun that way.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
The Angles are still going to lose.
Napoli theater or not.
alox - October 5, 2008

xbhaskarx - October 5, 2008
Josh " i dumped Leeann Tweeden" Beckett
Asfan4ever723 - October 5, 2008
F U Beckett
That pitch got what it deserved.
Pity Boston has a shitty pen.
Trainman - October 5, 2008
Torii Hunter SHOULD have no trouble
The commentators are getting very skeptical of his defense.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
This will be Torii's last postseason game.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Ever.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Should we expect to see Torii
on the side of the road with a sign that says, “Will play CF for food” at the start of next season?
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Maybe his next contract should have an incentive clause to not play in the playoffs
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
No. He will stay an Angel.
They just won’t make the playoffs. :-)
Blicks - October 5, 2008
I like to imagine him being homeless after his performance in the ALDS.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
I'd rather not see the Slegna in the playoffs for the next...say...10 years.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
The comments at Halo Heaven are hilarious for that play
Such a long string of expletives. We at least try to keep it clean over here.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
I can imagine the venom
being spewed by that crew. I think I’ll check it out later so I can laugh even more. I’m counting on Boston to crush them tonight.
alox - October 5, 2008
We do?
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Expletive wise
Dirty jokes wise, we win hands down.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
For a guy who had a .266 BABIP on the year,
watching Saunders give up a bunch of runs on a ball in play that should have been an out has a degree of karmic justice.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
josh beckett losing all his clutch winner when it counts most -ness
xbhaskarx - October 5, 2008
Way to miss the bag.
This game is sloppy.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
This is a terrible game
The pop up, Ellsbery should’ve been on 2nd after that “single”, bad and worse pitching by Becket and Saunders, Becket missing 1st base. Whoever the winner of this series is, I look forward to the Rays (or an outside chance the WhiteSox) tear them a new one.
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
I want it to be Rays/Red Sox
The Rays have home field that way, and have owned the Red Sox at the Trop this year.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
won't matter in a 4 game sweep, no?
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
Nope.
But on the other hand the Rays have also owned everybody at home, and having 4 home games instead of 3 is a huge huge advantage when they’re .500 on the road.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
True enough, but imagine this
Game 7 in Anaheim, F-raud goes in with a 3 run lead, and gives up a grand slam, then Hunter, Tex, Vlad strike out the bottom of the 9th. Rays celebrate on LAAA’s home turf. The whole place is dead silent, so quiet.
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
Tempting
I’d rather it not go 7, but K-Fraud blowing a save and getting the loss in Game 7 sounds absolutely awesome.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Boston does not want to clinch
Beckett sucks tonight.

asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
Byrd and the pron
Paul Byrd has evidently written a memoir in which he details his experiences as a Christian Big-Leaguer, including his fondness for the pron.
Here is an ESPN interview with Byrd that talks about it.

Unless Scosia has subscribed to the Joe Maddon School of Bullpen Management (which I hope not), this means the Slegna are incredibly desperate.

I don’t really want to see another K-Fail blown save.
It would kill the chances of him resigning with the Angels.
And I want him to resign with the Angels, as he continues to deteriorate. It’s money that can’t be spent on Teixeira/big bat.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
I think the Angels already know whether or not they're going to try to resign K-Rod
(I don’t think they will) – but one outing won’t affect things one way or the other.

thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
I’d even settle for him loading the bases and someone else giving up the walk/hit that scores the run.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Sulk-off would be acceptable too.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
:D
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
Sometimes I don’t mind watching old highlights.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Especially tonight
They’re showing all the good ones.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Why does FAIL-Rod always fall when he throws
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
He went to the Eric Byrnes School of Throwing Like a Douche-bag
doctorK - October 5, 2008
So did I!
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
He's overly dramatic.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
you spelled "fail" wrong.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Is it, "K-Rod"
alox - October 5, 2008
GAH he is in the WORST fielding position after he throws. So ugly
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
But in perfect position to catch a 250-mph hit to the face.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
This is exactly what I want.
I want this loss to hang soley on KRod.
alox - October 5, 2008
I want some of what the BoSox PXP guy is smoking
“Both sides have played superb defense, it’s been another very well-played game.”
Nick - October 5, 2008
lol he’s obviously not watching the same game we are
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
It's wearing on his mind.....
You can see it! He’s terrified that Ortiz will be the one that beats him.
alox - October 5, 2008
K-Rod should inflate his postseason ERA
above that of Joey Devine.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
WHAT?! a BREAKING BALL in the DIRT!? FAIL-Rod NEVER throws breaking balls in the dirt!
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
PUUUUUUKKKKKEEEE!!!!
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Greek God of Walk-offs?
doctorK - October 5, 2008
So that what Youkilis means
Walk-off?
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
YES! I'll take it!
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
I hate everything about these two teams.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
yeah but it's great
because one of them is always getting beat!
NateHST - October 5, 2008
I like the color red.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
I don't.
It makes me look like the Kool Aid guy.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Oh Yeah!
doctorK - October 5, 2008
[busts through wall]
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Finally, a voice of reason.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Now, now
I think Boston has a tasteful logo. Also, I think the “Sweet Caroline” thing is charming.
Englishmajor - October 5, 2008
I hate the lettering.
I hate the stadium and that stupid wall and pole. I kind of like Tito.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
"Sweet Caroline" is not charming.
It’s a pedophilic song about Caroline Kennedy
.
Oof.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
0-2 hit
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
YOUK!!!!!!
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Oh No Mr. K-Rod..
Do you feel the icy fingers of failure closing around your throat yet again? Angels fans everywhere will blame you for this……the few that are left anyway.
alox - October 5, 2008
Francona
PLEASE lift Papi for a pinch runner.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Perfect set-up
Sac bunt. Fail-Rod fields. And heaves it down the RF line.
Nick - October 5, 2008
Can't wait.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
ugh!
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
Let's go Lowell... end it here
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
I disagree
I hate Lowell, I want him to fail.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
I like JBay. Why didn't he get a hit here.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
“Can he be the hero?” They are so obsessed with creating a hero in every game.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Is Mike Lowell's batting music really "Iron Man"
Blicks - October 5, 2008
That's my entrance music at work.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Can he walk at all?
Or if he moves, will he fall?
doctorK - October 5, 2008
Is he live or dead?
alox - October 5, 2008
Iron Man? or Iron Lung?
OaklandSi - October 5, 2008
radio guy is pretty funny to listen to
very sarcastic throughout the game
OaklandSi - October 5, 2008
That's embarrassing, Mike.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Hahaha
Biggest bullshit call right there. He didn’t swing at all.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
He shouldn’t have made the umps look bad by assuming lol
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
I love the guy who yelled "What game are you watching" to the ump
Blicks - October 5, 2008
I want an E-5 Chone-off
Nick - October 5, 2008
A choke-off?
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
I always want the chonies off.
alox - October 5, 2008
Who's on deck?
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
JD?
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
Lowrie.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
No, they should be using Kotsay
I need my prediction of a Kotsay walk-off to come true.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
omg bases loaded. There are so many possibilities.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Point at the sky, maybe god himself will come down and argue with the umps.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Holy crap!
He points to the sky when he walks the bases loaded, too!
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
Wild pitch to end the Angels' season?
Rocktopus - October 5, 2008
that would work
OaklandSi - October 5, 2008
Walk off walk.
alox - October 5, 2008
Shades of NLCS '72
I hate knowing shit like that.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Walk off walk.
Just for the shame of it all.
pam5981 - October 5, 2008
I like the way you think.
alox - October 5, 2008
I don’t want them to have any kind of sulk off, though… because they would always replay this one since it was against the Red Sox. And I kind of love the specialness of the A’s experiencing it.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Me too
Walking in the run would be ever so much better.
Englishmajor - October 5, 2008
Don't swing rookie
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
Lowrie's good about that.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
I want a literal Walk-off
as in a BB.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Why is he smiling?
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
He doesn't have to work tomorrow
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Neither do I...
but I’m not smiling.

drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
Guh.
K-Rod’s FAIL is so strong it pervades through the other team.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
This is the dumbest commercial in the world.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Vivvvvvaaaaa!!!
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
ed seems to get a lot of action.
alox - October 5, 2008

likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008

salb918 - October 5, 2008
Noooooooo.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Oh, no wait, this is.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
SHIT!
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
That would have been so epic if he had walked the winning run in.
miggyk2 - October 5, 2008
It would have been great since the Angels first run was due to a bases loaded walk.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
The ultimate walk. off.
Nico - October 5, 2008
seriously
and despite getting into yet another jam and almost losing the game, with the third out he STILL parades back to the dugout – slapping his glove and running his mouth
SwisherThresher - October 5, 2008
COME ON!
What are they doing using Lowrie in that situation?!
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
They should've used Kotsay.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
He would have hit it to the moon
and pointed to the camera and said, “This one’s for you Steve, this one’s for you.”
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
K-Rod HAS to come out for one more inning.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Is Bootcheck available?
salb918 - October 5, 2008

Get on the phone and make this happen
Someone has to have these connections.

salb918 - October 5, 2008
This will be so anticlimactic and lame if the Red Sox just go down 1-2-3
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
who is going to blow the save for the Angels now?
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
Weaver will be staying in
Trainman - October 5, 2008
Game threads are so much fun when we're not watching the A's.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
why oh why are the angels winning?
I thought the sweep was a guarantee? Can K-rod come back in?
louismg - October 5, 2008
Wonderful
I still have faith in Big Papi, bottom of inning but if not, they have to win tomorrow because Matsuzaka would be going game 5 and we don’t really want that in spite of his record.
Trainman - October 5, 2008
Guys, remember. Boston can come back.
It’s not like Boston hasn’t pulled a walk-off 2-run bomb in the 12th inning of an ALDS game before.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
I hate you
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Well, they can now do that against a team I don't like.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
PRETERMISSION
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Oh and also I liked how they said “They already used KRod” as if he is even their best pitcher right now. Oh Noes! They used the guy who loaded the bases and almost blew the game already.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
patented angels fashion… um gag me other teams go 1st to 3rd too.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
PULL LOPEZ NOW.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Oh man, I finally realized what my son remind me of.
A hobbit. He is such a little hobbit.
Good god it’s late.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
It is, it is.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
how old is he?
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
One.
He has hairy feet and lives in a burrow with a round door.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Only 32 more years 'til he comes of age
doctorK - October 5, 2008
lol
So…many…nerds…
salb918 - October 5, 2008

likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
He is adorable.
I want to pinch his cute little cheeks.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
My nephews and nieces
are terrifed of me for my cheek pinching.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
I'm more of a squisher than a pincher.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
That sounds wrong.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
You squish babies?
wtf.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Yeah, same here
I can’t help myself.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
awwwww!

If you lived on the West Coast like a normal person
It’d only be 9:40 and not 12:40
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
We're looking for ways to move back.
salb918 - October 5, 2008
I suggest U-Haul and HW 80
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008

drmmerchk - October 5, 2008

asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
Let's Go Red Sox!
My sister asks, “do the Angels have a monopoly on ugly players?”
louismg - October 5, 2008
Youkillis is a gritty guy.
You know what gritty guys do here?
Blicks - October 5, 2008
hit walk-offs?
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
Yep.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Grittily ground into a double play?
doctorK - October 5, 2008
Eat grits!
errr.. hit home runs and be burly as all hell.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Chafe easily?
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
LOL
It’s been a long night.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
C'mon Youk!
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
It would even better if the angels lost on
a walk off in the 12th inning.
alox - October 5, 2008
Yes. Exactly.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Do it JBay
The stage is set for you.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
BAYL
doctorK - October 5, 2008
Must. Swing. Bat.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
It's go time.
Let’s do this thing, Sawx!
louismg - October 5, 2008
Alex Cora? Great.
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
You are just delaying the inevitable, Angels.
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
:D
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
Alex Cora hasn't had a homer all season.
Now’s the time.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
WOW
Nice play figgy.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Shut up.
Get out of here. You are banned.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
But..but..
fine, I’m joining HH and bashing the A’s… Bwahahaha couldn’t even keep a straight face.
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
FUCK!!!!
Blicks - October 5, 2008
Don't get too worked
we can’t be that upset when Boston loses.
MobiusKlein - October 5, 2008
That historical Angels-losing to Sux streak of futility is over though
Blicks - October 5, 2008
ASS.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
I stayed all the way just to see this shite?
Ugh
doctorK - October 5, 2008
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it’s time to watch Dexter. See y’all tomorrow!
drmmerchk - October 5, 2008
What happens now?
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Time for bed.
Jennifer - October 5, 2008
In. Deed.
67MARQUEZ - October 5, 2008
Oh well
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
And we have Monday baseball!
Let’s go RAYS! Let’s go SUX!
thesteve9x - October 5, 2008
Yay silver lining
Blicks - October 5, 2008
dang
salb918 - October 5, 2008
Precedent, Red Sox. Precedent.
You’re supposed to rape the Angels in the playoffs AND in familiar ground.
Fuck you.
Blicks - October 5, 2008
NIghty night.
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
BANKRUPTCY
SwisherThresher - October 5, 2008
Cora was supposed to bail me out. :-(
Nico - October 5, 2008
I'd even rather have Crosby up instead
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
They could have pinch hit Casey
(Youkilis to 3B if they tie it up). Ah well.
Nico - October 5, 2008
Should aired that ED commercial
asfansince1989 - October 5, 2008
I know - and to think my erection wore off over an hour ago
even though I took my Viagra with the first pitch.
Nico - October 5, 2008
Can you imagine the scene??!!
“if an erection lasts longer than three hours, contact your physician..”
……two hours, forty-eight minutes….
……two hours, forty-nine minutes…..
…..two hours, fifty minutes, hey, I think….what does it look like to you?! Is that softer than fifteen minutes ago!! Wait! ….okay, okay, let’s get to the emergency room…no!!…yea, let’s go…
Okay, we still have three minutes…if in five minutes, ….no …if in three minutes…
One won lost won - October 5, 2008
and what the heck are you supposed to say in the emergency room when you get there?
um, nurse, I have an erection that lasted more than three hours
what does she say then?
eastcoasta'sfan - October 6, 2008
"Congratulations"?
alox - October 6, 2008
Well, that would be better than
“Where?”
eastcoasta'sfan - October 6, 2008
Must win for Sox tomorrow
Just my personal opinion but I do not like Matsuzaka’s chances if it comes back to Anaheim.
Trainman - October 5, 2008
Lester will get it done.
baseballnut020 - October 5, 2008
Lester won't let it fester
oaklandSMASH - October 5, 2008
Probably more of a must win for the Angels, eh?
67MARQUEZ - October 6, 2008
It's okay with me, the Angel victory
Play to exhaustion, both teams losing in front of the home crowd throughout the series. Still good outcome, IMO.
One won lost won - October 5, 2008
Lester vs. Wackey tomorrow
likeiwouldtellyou - October 5, 2008
I have a feeling Lackey is going to get lit up like a Christmas treet
Nearly as good as watching K-Rod blow it
Trainman - October 5, 2008
Wacky thread. You people are crazy.
Really, it was a win-win with this Angels/Sox game: Angels lose, and they’re done. Sox lose, and all their fans go home depressed after watching two ugly teams play an ugly game for 38643 hours.
And a win for me too: two more games tomorrow. Sweeps are overrated, anyway.
whiteshoes40 - October 5, 2008
Silver lining
seeing the home team lose all three times.
But yes, we can do without sweeps. Last year out of a possible 20 DS games, we got 13. 2006 it was 14. This year the least amount we’ll see is 15.
Last time a DS went the distance: 2005 (Angels def. Yanks).
67MARQUEZ - October 6, 2008
that was a long Fing game
work is killing me right now
