Well, after a less-then-auspicious start to the game, this one has turned good. Boston once held a 5-1 lead, but the Angels have chipped away a little each inning. They closed the gap to 5-3, and had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but thank goodness for Howie Kendrick, who struck out on a pitch that wasn't in the same zip code as the plate, but then Justin Masterson decided to play Wild Thing and walk a run in. But he struck Ayber out and we now head to the 8th, 5-4 Boston.

I have a confession:
I rooted for the Angels over the Giants in the 2002 World Series. When I think about it now, it makes me sick… but it was early in my fandom, and I didn’t have a whole lot of reasons to hate the Angels yet, and I didn’t want the Giants to win. I think I am forever doing penance for that decision.
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
no, you made the right decision
xbhaskarx - October 3, 2008
Thank goodness I didn't

doctorK - October 3, 2008

Most of the Rev’s minions never heard of the Angels before 2002.

But I’m still convinced they were less evil then than they are now.
oblique - October 3, 2008
Yeah, their evilness has definitely increased in the past 6 years.
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
The Angels-A's rivalry
wasn’t particularly strong in the ’90’s through 2001. When the A’s first got good again in the Beane era, their primary rivals were the Mariners. I detested the Giants much more in 2002.
Soaker - October 3, 2008
all is forgiven
likeiwouldtellyou - October 3, 2008
I did too.
I apologize for it now. It was before I was an A’s or Dodger fan… it was the last time I ever rooted for the Angels and it was when I realized that the team that I grew up rooting for (yeah, we had season Angel tickets when I was growing up. I pretty much stopped watching baseball after we no longer could afford them in the late 90s.) was not anything like the team that was playing, or the fans that were watching in 2002. The bandwaggon fans turned me off of them and it’s been a steady and sure ride to completely disliking everything about the team ever since.

Me neither. I'm smiling ear to ear
baseballgirl - October 3, 2008
It's true; Figgins really can outrun a baseball.
salb918 - October 3, 2008

Englishmajor - October 3, 2008
Wonder how long
Fat ass cry baby leaves the choker in?
HRH - October 3, 2008
Haha!
lynnzgal - October 3, 2008
The great thing about that homerun is that there will be no controversy about Coco being out or not.
Rocktopus - October 3, 2008
Are you kidding me, That's all they'll talk about!
likeiwouldtellyou - October 3, 2008
Not as much as they would have if Drew had only hit an RBI double and the Angels lost by 1.
Rocktopus - October 3, 2008
Wow what an AMAZING CLOSER! He must be the BEST EVER!
drmmerchk - October 3, 2008
Kotsay!
HRH - October 3, 2008

baseballnut020 - October 3, 2008
Question
When ever the Angels have a home game they always mention “The Big A”. Are the talking about their manager the Big Ass or their Stupid Ass closer?
HRH - October 3, 2008
Ah, the red umbrella commercial.
First time I’ve seen it.
pam5981 - October 3, 2008
God to K-Rod:
“Eh…Don’t call.”
Nico - October 3, 2008
God's cell gets no bars in podunk Anaheim

Beautiful
Whenever I see that shot without the FAIL, I think for a second “Angela Stadium? Who the hell is she?”
Englishmajor - October 3, 2008
My friends and I used to call it Angela Astidum … which is not spelled right but that’s phonetically how we’d pronounce it lol
drmmerchk - October 3, 2008
I think the same thing.
You’d think they would’ve thought of that before they stuck the giant A in between the words.
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
Frank Tv?
Never heard of it
HRH - October 3, 2008

Hes Just as bad as KRod
Syphon - October 3, 2008
eh
picking up 6 outs in a row in the ALDS > picking up a save, up by 3 against the bottom of the order.
buddahead9 - October 3, 2008
I ment bad as in..
his crazy mound antics.
Syphon - October 3, 2008
I think he might be worse because he’s kind of a dumbass outside of playing baseball.
drmmerchk - October 3, 2008
Ooof.
Watching Papelbon celebrate makes me feel sick. I hate myself.
salb918 - October 3, 2008
note to Angels
skip your flight to Boston, it will be a waste of time
HRH - October 3, 2008
11 times in a row..
Talk about being someone’s BITCH??
ohtobe21likehuston - October 3, 2008
THank You God!!!
Amnesiac - October 3, 2008

Still don’t like seeing the Sox celebrate.
But the Angels and their fans are desolate… so it’s okay.

whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
Sorry!
lynnzgal - October 3, 2008
I am pretty sure if I had to watch Papelbon as often as I have to watch FRod (that is to say if I reversed the number of times I saw them) I would hate him more.
drmmerchk - October 3, 2008
K- Rod=FAIL
likeiwouldtellyou - October 3, 2008
Well, this was fun!
likeiwouldtellyou - October 3, 2008
Okay.
So has this happened before, that all 4 LDS’s start out 2-0? Or is the world just out to get us, with as many mentions as possible of ’01 and ’03?
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
seriously
:(
SwisherThresher - October 3, 2008
2007
Just mentioned it.
baseballnut020 - October 3, 2008
Okay, apparently it happened in 2007.
I didn’t follow the postseason too much last year, so I guess I missed that.
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
Why don't they just say,
“You know the last time a team came from down 0-2 and weren’t playing the A’s was — well, basically that never happens.”
Nico - October 3, 2008
Hurray!
And Jonathan….enjoy this moment, we want to see you hanging your head next week.
Englishmajor - October 3, 2008
Yeah when the Rays kick their ass
HRH - October 3, 2008
Poor Angel fan
So sad… ha ha ha ha ha. 1 more game of Choke Rod as your closer before he goes to the NL and starts talking to God as a NY Met.
HRH - October 3, 2008
I want a player being interviewed by Sager to call him out on his ridiculous clothing.
salb918 - October 3, 2008
That would be awesome.
whiteshoes40 - October 3, 2008
what ridiculous clothing??
I didn’t notice
HRH - October 3, 2008
Most people would get fired for looking that stupid.
ohtobe21likehuston - October 3, 2008
I want Stacey and Clinton to be in on that.
lynnzgal - October 3, 2008
I feel bad for Sager.
He’s thinking,“I’ve got no personality, I’m old, my job is being taken over by every hot girl with any knowledge at all of sports, I need a gimmick. I know, ugly suits!” It’s a really, really desperate cry for attention but when it comes down to it, he’s just an old man fighting for his job. He reminds me of Gil from the Simpsons.
Rocktopus - October 3, 2008
so happy
tanghamilton - October 3, 2008
And they call us Chokeland . . .
The Angles just broke an MLB record for most consecutive losses to the same team in the post season play.

salb918 - October 3, 2008
Boy
having the best record in your respective league sure means a lot now.
HRH - October 3, 2008
well, they were in, arguably, the worst division in baseball...
I say “arguably” because the NL West was probably wosre.
FoolshGame22 - October 3, 2008

buddahead9 - October 3, 2008

they’ll never win.

baseballgirl - October 3, 2008
I just recorded the video of the HR to my computer and I’ll get a screen cap ASAP
drmmerchk - October 3, 2008
Howie Kendrick strikes out more than Jack Cust...
in the playoffs. That would’ve been my headline.
FoolshGame22 - October 3, 2008
has Cust ever struck out
in the playoffs???
