Just in case you missed innings 1-5 1/2, I have "borrowed" the Gameday summary to catch everyone up. Of course, the game was re-aired this afternoon, so everyone could see baseball played underwater (I'm pretty sure The Little Mermaid was wearing a Ray's hat), but it will officially resume tonight at 5:37, tied 2-2, after Pena came up HUGE for the Rays with the last-second RBI hit. We will join the Phillies at bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Rays had already activated their 'pen, but the Phillies had their ace on the mound (Hamels finished six innings with 75 pitches), and his spot is first up to bat. I can only assume that the Phillies pinch-hit, go to the bullpen, and use Hamels for a possible Game 7 on Friday. (Game 6, if necessary, will be played tomorrow night in the not-looking-like-such-a-bad-idea Dome in Tampa Bay.) Game time temp will be about 40 degrees with a wind-chill making it about 10 degrees colder.
Game scoring summary so far:
Bottom of the first:
Rollins flies out.
Werth walks.
Utley HBP.
Howard K's.
Burrell walks.
Victorino singles. 2-0 Phillies.
Top of the fourth:
Upton grounds out.
Pena doubles.
Longoria singles. 2-1 Phillies.
Top of the sixth:
Iwamura K's.
Crawford grounds out.
Upton singles
Upton steals second base.
Pena singles. 2-2, game tied.
Lineups where we left off:
Iwamura, 2B
Crawford, LF
Upton, CF
Pena, 1B
Longoria, 3B
Navarro, C **the top of the seventh inning will start here**
Baldelli, RF
Bartlett, SS
Balfour, P
Rollins, SS
Werth, RF
Utley, 2B
Howard, 1B
Burrell, LF
Victorino, CF
Feliz, 3B
Ruiz, C
Hamels, P **the bottom of the sixth will start here**
And after all that, I think we should get some more baseball.
LET'S GO RAYS!

Go Rays!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Go A's
Screw those other teams.
doctorK - October 29, 2008
Go extra innings!
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Go seven games!!!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Baseball don't leave me!
This winter is going to be cold and lonely.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I'm lucky I taped all the games.
Baseball never stops at my house. And I can actually watch a team I really care about!!!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Go to your room!
Oh, was that out loud?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
hey! I don't wanna go to my room!
and you can’t make me! {sticks tongue out}
but if you were talking to someone at your house, my bad.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Let's go Rays!
and also let’s go MLB.com! Send me my effing Rays shirt already! It’s been 14 days since I ordered it.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
So I was disappointed that I missed the first half of this game the other night
but I did learn that Danny DeVito is much shorter in person. And, of course, we all learned that it’s not always sunny in Philadelphia.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
This is so weird.
The Rays better win this mini-game. Need more baseball.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I concur
Englishmajor - October 29, 2008
Let's see, "shorter" and "mini"
in your first two comments. Feeling kind of tall are we?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I always feel tall.
The air up here is so… invigorating.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Good answer.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
GO RAYS!
I missed the whole Barack Obama infomercial :(
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
Was it actually on?
The news was on Fox before the game, at least for me.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
No, you didn't
(unless you’re traveling in the Eastern time zone) — we’re getting it here at 8 PM Pacific time, or (I presume) on Fox whenever the game is over.
Englishmajor - October 29, 2008
Ooh. yay.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
Okay, that makes more sense.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Is that the one where he peddles miracle cures that THEY don't want us to know about with Kevin Trudeau?
Or the one with the sham-wow?
JediLeroy - October 29, 2008
Sham-wow.
And a food dehydrator.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
Don't forget about Chef Tony and his stay-sharp-forever knives *g*
anomaly_kat - October 29, 2008
My favorites as of late:
Shed Ender and Pedi Paws
InStyler
Awesome Auger (is Billy Mays selling insurance too? I thought I heard him shouting at me.)
And some stupid little waffle iron-type griddle that will cook ANYTHING!
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
GT Xpress 101!
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
I just turned it on
Did someone sing the National Anthem again?
Nick - October 29, 2008
If so: lame
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
and i'm sure we'll get god bless america one inning later
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
Nope
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
how many pitches did hamels throw earlier?
he only gave up two hits and one walk, and had difficulty gripping the ball because of the rain.
i’d do the absolutely batsh*t insane of keeping hamels in the game for two innings, maybe three. hell, until he decides he’s done, as long as he’s pitching well.
i have a feeling this is going to go into extra innings, so i’d be more worried about using up the bullpen (considering the rays have two starters in price and jackson) than about hamels batting leadoff.
i know that makes absolutely no sense on like ten levels, but i just have a “gut feeling”…
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
And yet I agree.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
jenkins double = crazy idea not looking so good
wtf balfour, you had him 1-2…
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
Yeah, what do I know, right?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
How about now?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
3-3 vs 2-2 with hamels still pitching. crazy idea looking better as the phils are on their second reliever already.
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
This is really weird.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
I guess I should quit complaining about the late start time if I can't even get home in time for an 8:30 first pitch
kapers - October 29, 2008
Balfour's ears really stick out there, don't they?
Nick - October 29, 2008
baaaad start
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
shh - don't tell Nico
doctorK - October 29, 2008
After Balfour pitches, they should put Kazmir in as a reliever since he does so well from the "2nd" inning and on
kapers - October 29, 2008
Ugh.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
This game is flying.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I know -- it's already the 6th!
Nick - October 29, 2008
I can haz strickout?
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
No
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
just end it today
i want some trades to happen
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
It might.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I don't think trades are a good enough excuse to end the season early
whoever wins, PLEASE let it go seven!! Taped games aren’t as fun as current ones!!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I want Emil Brown to be officially no longer an A.
andeux - October 29, 2008
that, I will agree with.
DFA needs to be gone.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
You've gotta be kidding me.
That was ugly.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
That was a really tough play, esp for someone who's been a 2B for a year
Nick - October 29, 2008
yeah... I guess I just have high expectations
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I know this is an NL thing, but why bunt Rollins with a runner at 2B and no outs?
doctorK - October 29, 2008
beause you have utley/howard to drive him in potentially
not cust/rosby and our other loveable losers
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
Rollins hits left-handed with a RHP
He could pull the ball to the right side for the same effect, with the added bonus of possibly driving in the run himself instead of throwing away a valuable out.
doctorK - October 29, 2008
Balfour still has a pretty good chance at a K there, though
Nick - October 29, 2008
I'm only listening
Should he have caught it?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
It would have been a great play
the IF was in, ball blooped to CF, and Iwamura had no angle on it at all — it dropped down directly over his head. The ball dropped right down between his hands and his chest.
Nick - October 29, 2008
Thanks - at first Miller said he had it.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Sounds like the Rays needed Dave Casper on their infield
doctorK - October 29, 2008
Great shot!
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Or should I say great "post"
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Ahhh . . . glory days.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
balfour live by it, die by it
fastballs and nothing else
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
PLAY BALL!!!!
OaklandSi - October 29, 2008
Reason # 9023744527 why having the infield in is retarded
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
I lost track
What’s #4?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Dude, that word is offensive
Nobody around here uses reason
JediLeroy - October 29, 2008
Let me rephrase:
Reason # 9023744527 why most individuals with IQ < 70 could manage better than most baseball managers.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
smiley face
JediLeroy - October 29, 2008
Reason # 9023744528: Most of them would not somehow decide to allow a pitcher to bat
in the 7th inning of a tied game.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Are we still talking about pulling the infield in?
I’m lost with all these big numbers.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
that should be a response to 67marquez and i above.
our combined IQ is 75 though.
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
"and me"
andeux - October 29, 2008
sorry, "and andeux" who adds another 6 points to our collective IQ
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
Yeah,
but.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I expected more people here for the possible last game thread of the season.
or is everybody too busy watching to type?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I'm driving.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Well, as long as you're not on the phone, it's okay.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Hold on, my mom's calling.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
SCREEEEEEEEEECH
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Can you get a ticket for that?
I mean you aren’t on the phone right?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I'm at home.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Just backing in and out of the garage?
giggling madly.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I haven't giggled madly in ages.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Since you were a school girl?
Yeah me neither.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Sigh.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
giggled maniacally?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
that did NOT end up where it was supposed to.
great time for me to lose internet…
#14fan - October 29, 2008
TWDS
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Rocco's ball did.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
In my case, I'm about to leave work
And I figure the game will be long over before I can post tonight.
doctorK - October 29, 2008
then you better hope the Rays win!
so you get another chance!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I'm here!
I went to pick up some safety scissors. I’m babysitting my cousin’s middle child tomorrow. The last time he was here he found my sewing scissors… “Ohhh. Jiffer, I cut?” Uh, no. So we’ll be cutting tomorrow.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Cutting safely is good. Hi!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Howdy.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
My 5-y-o son cut his finger (middle one, of course) at school aftercare a couple days ago
and he had a bandaid on the finger when I picked him up. I asked him about the cut and whether it hurt, and a 2nd-grade girl whose mom and dad I know smiled and said, “There was LOTS of blood!!”
The reptile part of the brain is still strong in the elementary school set.
Nick - October 29, 2008
The middle one's not that important
Nico - October 29, 2008
TWMMS
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Unless we're talking about fingers.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
+1
Haha!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
If this is the last game
I just wanted to say that I didn’t mean half the things I said here.
And the other half were lies.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
thanks for reiterating that
as if we didn’t already know.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
TIED
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
WOO!
Rocco!
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
TIE GAME!
WOOO!
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
just finished telling my son that Baldelli is CLUTCH
kapers - October 29, 2008
Shit
Nick - October 29, 2008
thanks for posting that. my son feels the same way but isn't allowed to say that word
kapers - October 29, 2008
Wooohooo Baldelli!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
WOOOOOOOOOOO!
That was some major silence in Philly.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
It's so quiet.
I think I can hear them cheering in Tampa though.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!
YAY!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
sign roco for 09, worth a risk
A’s have the OF depth to get him enough rest
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
what was the hudson philly rumors yrs ago
A’s wanted utley and madsen??
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
You are so done with this season, aren't you?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Ugh I hate sacrifice bunts to make it 2 outs
but with a pitcher batting they almost had no choice.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
You know,
they have this thing in baseball, where you can actually replace one player with a substitute player.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Never heard of it
Does it have something to do with pinching someone?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Game
Blicks - October 29, 2008
Game's tied, and you've already used your best reliever in Balfour.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
Price ain't half bad
and neither is Howell. I think they’ll manage.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I desperately want an earflap baseball cap.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
I was just thinking that the other night
monkeyball - October 29, 2008
I would wear it today. I'm cold.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
they must be available, someone search the internets and let the rest of us know
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
ummm...
google search gave me this, sorry about the team, but it doesn’t give specific order stuff, just that its availble for some teams only.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Soft teams that can't handle the cold.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
are those ear flaps part of the cap?
i want on of those, A’s version please
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
I hate yahoo. They call them "Elmer Fudd" hats
and continually say how much they think they suck.
I don’t think they’re that bad, personally.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Aggressive running there, not a bad idea with the game tied.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
free taco?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I didn't get one yesterday
I’m disappointed in myself.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I didn't either..
I’m disappointed in you too.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I view not eating a free Taco Bell taco
as a sign of higher intelligence.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Uh-oh
{Hides wrapper}
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
What? No burnt quesadillas?
The other night I made some killer steak fajita quesadillas. I didn’t burn ’em, but I did burn my arm.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Ran out of tortillas.
That was an emotional rollercoaster you put me on. I decided I loved you when I read the steak fajita part, but after I saw you burned your arm, I feel like I should give you a hug.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Awww! Love you too!
and I could use a hug.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
JASON BARTLETT RAYS MVP
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Obviously
I don’t know where they got that idea, honestly.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
utley is a monster w/ the bat and glove
Asfan4ever723 - October 29, 2008
f'n hell of a heads up play by Utley
OaklandSi - October 29, 2008
Amazing!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
That's not your line.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Due to the shortened nature of this game
I decided not to wait.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Fair enough.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
that was an annoyingly good tag
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
He smacked him the face
NO RUN FOR YOU!
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Mein Gott, Burrell is slow
Any other non-Molina in baseball is at third base.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
the bats are rested, not sure about the pitchers
kapers - October 29, 2008
After the layoff in '89, everyone figured the bats would be rusty
Game 3: 13-7
Game 4: 9-6.
Uh-huh.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I don't even remember how long that lay off was. Like 11 days or something?
kapers - October 29, 2008
Ten
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
how many outs have been made this postseason
due to aggressive baserunning, bunts, etc?
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
Is Maddon on crack?
He leaves in a pitcher, has him bunt with one out, and then takes him out one batter into the next inning.
That one batter HAS THE PLATOON ADVANTAGE.
WTF?
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Usually Nico plays manager.
But this works.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I can't believe I'm saying this
but Tim McCarver is right.
Nick - October 29, 2008
Stop it.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
What kind of creature is the Philly Phanatic, anyway?
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
A Phantastic one.
Or something out of Phantasy?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
He's a terrorist, haha!
I actually tried to find that out, but no luck.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
The bunt there really made no sense
How hard is it for a lefthanded hitter to pull a grounder to 2nd against Bradford?
Nick - October 29, 2008
Victorino does his job!
As opposed to not doing his job and staying in the clubhouse and eating Spam or something.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
He came to play
Nick - October 29, 2008
4-3
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
pedro feliz MVP!
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
I find it disturbing
to think of how non-absurd that statement is.
Nick - October 29, 2008
Feliz is not making me happy
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Pedro Feliz delivers? Really? Ugh.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
I found out about the caps if anyone cares
MLB sucks. It’s only available for some teams, and that does not include the Rays or the Phillies, for some reason. The A’s don’t have them either.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Uh-oh
Another run on a pulled in infield. When will Maddon learn?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
In fairness, that ball was certainly a run and probably a hit anyway
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Not if he'd put Zobrist there!
Nick - October 29, 2008
True
but still, this pulled in defense isn’t proving to be effective thus far.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Not saying it was the right play
In fact, with Chad “I haven’t struck anyone out in 3 years” Bradford out there, it was almost certainly the wrong play.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Oh I know you know better than that.
and i laughed at the nickname for Chad.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Hey, Chad:
i can haz dp? plz?
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
nice play iwamura
xbhaskarx - October 29, 2008
Not a DP, but that was pretty
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Beautiful play right there!
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Aki earns some redemption.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
Okay, now I just don't want the Phillies to score again
because I’m sick of the Rocky theme.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I wonder how many Philadelphians have that as their ringtones.
Ugh.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
would't even they be sick of it by now?
kapers - October 29, 2008
We could only hope.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Is it Lidge time? I hope not.
kapers - October 29, 2008
Nope.
Romero is going back out.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
"It's a mysterious thing, it comes from nowhere"
A walk? That is strange way to talk about a walk.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Let's go BJ!
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
i hate you, bj.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Damn you BJ!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Upton would make a good Athletic
kapers - October 29, 2008
COME ON!
Does Upton want the season to end? Take a pitch! Romero took the last guy 3-2, TAKE A PITCH!
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I feel sick.
Baseball CANNOT end tonight.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
+100000000000000000
#14fan - October 29, 2008
...bleh.
This game is going by too quickly.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I know - it hardly seems like 7.5 innings have gone by!
Nico - October 29, 2008
Uh oh.
Nico - October 29, 2008
Did you lose your underwear?
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Two uh ohs.
Nico - October 29, 2008
Haha!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
I hope Lidge picks this moment to blow the game.
It’s necessary for the game of baseball.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
This was a stupid non move by Maddon
J.P. Howell: Strike (missed bunt), Pickoff attempt, Howell sacrificed to pitcher, Bartlett to second
Rested pen and you let this clown bunt?
Trainman - October 29, 2008
Maybe some Text Twist will cheer me up.
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
You got me hooked on that game.
It’s so damn fun.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I'm already playing.
It’s not particularly cheery.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Just letting everyone know in advance,
this will be the first BS by Lidge this Season.
mattman - October 29, 2008
Do you have a script?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
sssssshhhhhh
Blicks - October 29, 2008
at first I thought you meant something different when you wrote BS
or is that what you mean?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Nope no BS here,
just a blown save.
mattman - October 29, 2008
good.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Brad Lidge thread mojo.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
Get Pujols into the game.
Make it happen Maddon.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
If Maddon doesn't send Pujols up to pinch hit here,
he’s a terrible manager.
Nico - October 29, 2008
Or just have Pujols stand in the first row behind home plate.
Just staring down Lidge.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
And Albert has to wear a Lidge jersey.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Pujols, A-Rod, Ortiz.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
A-Rod is so unclutch
Blicks - October 29, 2008
I'm not sure if I can watch.
I might throw up.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Don't turn your head to quickly,
Lidge might strike out the side that fast.
mattman - October 29, 2008
just don't throw up on the TV and everything will be fine.
I might throw up too, but that might be for different reasons… GO RAYS!!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Good slider there
Nick - October 29, 2008
Who's on the bench? Gross?
Nick - October 29, 2008
I don't think it matters.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
Terry Gross?
Englishmajor - October 29, 2008
What's the rule on FA signings? Is it too late to wheel Bonds out there?
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
The air does seem pretty fresh tonight
Nick - October 29, 2008
Lets Go Rays!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Well it's been fun, one hell of a run.
Rays made this exciting post-season in my mind.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
an exciting..
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
This sucks... booo Phils
schmifty - October 29, 2008
KInda lucky that was just a single
Nick - October 29, 2008
C'mon, double play ball!
Streams Of Whiskey - October 29, 2008
GO RAYS!!!!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Two days ago I found the David Ortiz standee collapsed, blocking the file room door
I was hoping it was a sign… of what, I don’t know.
schmifty - October 29, 2008
George Hendrick is the Rays' 1B coach? Did anyone mention him in the fomer-A's roundup before the Series?
Nick - October 29, 2008
Do you PR now?
Wait till he gets to second?
Interesting. At least this move isn’t obviously wrong…
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
If they score..
who is their catcher?
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
They have a backup...
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
I know, but I don't recall Riggans being on the WS roster.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
and it doesn't matter
as long as they score
DMOAS - October 29, 2008
Good question.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
I think we just got a free taco
#14fan - October 29, 2008
That was a one time thing.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
serious?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Yep.
Just one taco, after the first stolen base of the series.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Can I just say that if the A's were in the Rays' situation, and someone hit the line drive that Zobrist did
I would have a heart attack.
Nick - October 29, 2008
Depends who was in RF....
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
Like imagine if TLong had done that against Lowe...
Nick - October 29, 2008
let's go hinske!
i believe i can fly…
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
GO RAYS!!!
i believe I can touch the sky…
#14fan - October 29, 2008
He gone, and I'm sad.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
{starts to cry}
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Wow.
Weird Series.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Good one.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Nice one.
Streams Of Whiskey - October 29, 2008
Until next season, old friend.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I love the picture of Reggie and Williams
Nick - October 29, 2008
[sob]
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
SNIFF!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
now I'm going to get emotional
kapers - October 29, 2008
now if only they were in the WS... and they had just won...
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I miss Dad.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
I thought about him when they showed the replay after Dobb's leadoff double
I saw Dobbs’s #10 and I though, awwww….
Nick - October 29, 2008
I want 2002 back.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
It was magick.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
[sob]
That year alone made me an A’s fan.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
That was the year I happened to start watching baseball.
I got spoiled, really fast. I thought it would all be like that… winning all the time, playoffs every year. Not so much.
Sigh. At least we’ll always have 2002.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
What we are going through now
Will make it that much sweeter when we make it back to the top.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Yeah. I just have to keep telling myself that.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
20 games IN A ROW?!
I almost died. Back then I got to see two or three games a month. I followed along with Gameday. Man, thank goodness they were playing the Royals that series. I STILL have that game on tape.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
I went to my first A's game that June, with a school group.
Then, in August, I was at a game Mulder pitched against the ChiSox early in the Streak—#9, maybe?—and I remember him losing a shoe while pitching at one point. I also was at #17 and #19, which, of course, were awesome, sitting up in the highest regions of the third deck. I think my section won the Round Table Home Run pizza thing at one point.
20 in a row is just crazy. Somewhere, deep in my box of A’s memorabilia, I have newspaper clippings from those games.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Please share those clippings.
I just don’t save stuff like I used to.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I'll do some digging this weekend.
See what I can find.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
Thanks.
I am currently surrounded by A’s stuff. Scrapooks, programs, stubs…took everything out of boxes.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Lovely collage
The bad part of the year is here.
But remember everyone, AN keeps going in the offseason! Plenty of threads…
Englishmajor - October 29, 2008
I'll be here!!!!!
I have nothing else to do!!! though even if I did…. I’d still be here!
#14fan - October 29, 2008
That's it?
seemed sorta anticlimatic to me, watching gameday.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Yes, that is it.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
{crys hysterically}
No more baseball?!?!?!!?!??!!?!?!?
I’m going to hate this winter. So much.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
More than other baseball-less winters?
pam5981 - October 29, 2008
last off-season I wasn't quite so obsessed.
it didn’t hurt as much.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Yeah, not anticlimactic for Phillies fans
but I don’t feel anything from them winning.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Let me just take this time to say
Congrats to the Phillies, but what a season the Rays had. So many people counted them out long before this point. They fought hard, but the Phillies got the best of them. I’m excited to see how the Rays are next season.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Price in the rotation will really help.
All they have to do is keep that bullpen from regressing/bolster that pen a bit.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
YAY PHILLIES!!!
They deserve to be World Series champs …and so do their fans.
But the Rays have nothing to be ashamed about
-and they’ll be back!!!OaklandSi - October 29, 2008
Plz to be owning the AL East for yrs to come
Blicks - October 29, 2008
And think about it: It was the RAYS and not the RED SOX. yay!!!
kapers - October 29, 2008
There is always an upside.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
+A bajillion!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Agreed
nothing much worse than one "Red’ team vs another.
One won lost won - October 29, 2008
God damnit.
mattman - October 29, 2008
how many times are we gonna hear
ball hits catchers mit
oooOWAAAHHHHHHH!!! hoooooonnkkkk AHHHHH!!!!
haha congrats phillies
BigTuna - October 29, 2008
One day, soon, this will be us.
(“this” being the Phillies, not the Rays)
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I miss baseball
:-(
Nico - October 29, 2008
Me too.
Sigh.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I'm blocking it out.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
so do I....
sigh. Is this the last game thread for a long, long time?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
No, there's one tomorrow.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
???????????? what?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
He's saying there is a game thread tomorrow.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Right. Was that difficult?
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I got it
I mean there isn’t a game tomorrow (ouch it’s harder to say than I thought)
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
did you forget?? and yes, 67marquez, it was DIFFICULT.
I’m all depressed now because of you! you got me all excited, then I fell into the dark depression of non-baseball land. XP
#14fan - October 29, 2008
so when do the A's play the first spring training game?
OaklandSi - October 29, 2008
Who is going to be MVP?
I honestly couldn’t tell you.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
Hamels.
mattman - October 29, 2008
Mother Nature?
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
She won in '89, too.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Sing to me one more time.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Yayyy Carol King!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
I have Carol Burnett pulling her ear in my head.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
I'm so glad we've had this time together
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Just to have a laugh and sing a song
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Seems we just get started and before you know it!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Comes the time we have to say, goodbye.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Hamels
Blicks - October 29, 2008
They need to let Rosenthal interview Rollins so he doesn't neet to stand on a milk crate
Nick - October 29, 2008
Okay, now when I see Moyer
I think of him sweating profusely. That’s not a pretty picture.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
How many frigging times are they going to replay that, holy shit.
mattman - October 29, 2008
I'm very, very happy for Jamie Moyer
I wonder if he’ll retire?
Nick - October 29, 2008
Yayyyy! Me too!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Hard to argue with it if he did
Then again, he could probably pitch till he’s 60 if he wanted to.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Lidge:
The All-Star Game most certainly does NOT count.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Aw, Cupcakes.
Congrats to my favorite pastry.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Today I found tapes of the 2006 ALDS and ALCS.
I don’t think I ever watched them. Now I know what I’ll be doing for the next few days… although I might just burn the tapes of the ALCS and pretend it never happened.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
I'd advise stopping at the Scutaro double
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
I still have those games on my laptop.
[more sobbing]
The ol’ gal still isn’t fixed.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Remember Kotsay's inside the park homerun?
Good stuff.
VORP is too nerdy - October 29, 2008
Hurt going yard twice?
Sigh.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Bud Selig -- the guy whose very name means Par-tay!!
Nick - October 29, 2008
Ugh!
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
I love the Philly fans booing him
Tasteless, yet, honest.
I can feel that.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
Haha. Phils fans booing Bud.
whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
And then booing the Rays
Nick - October 29, 2008
That's just stupid.
You just won, lame show of sportsmanship right there.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
What do you expect?
It IS Philadelphia, after all. They’re pretty close to Cubs/Red Sox fans in terms of asshattery
VORP is too nerdy - October 29, 2008
I wanted the Phillies to win the World Series..
solely because of Cookies… but I wanted them to lose this particular game because I wanted a 7-game series.
VORP is too nerdy - October 29, 2008
I need to find all of my taped games...
I just remembered that I dropped them in my storage unit during the move, and my storage unit=black hole. I guess I’m not watching any A’s games for a while…
{starts to cry}
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I might have to break out the '89 tapes
I hope they still work.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
you should post them here on AN so we can enjoy them too!
… do you have any games a bit more recent?
#14fan - October 29, 2008
Just those.
I need to copy them to DVD.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Well, you could post those, and Jennifer could put up some more recent games
when her laptop gets fixed! Then the offseason wouldn’t be quite so bleak!
Or maybe that’s just wishful/depressed thinking…
#14fan - October 29, 2008
I want some Big Three gems.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
My older games are on VHS.
The games from 2006 are on the laptop.
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Please. Share.
Especially 2006.
Blicks - October 29, 2008
I don't even have a VCR anymore.
I really need one to do my homework though.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
I want copies of that!!!!!!!!!!!!
kapers - October 29, 2008
You got it.
Best tapes ever.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
I'm going to email you to discuss.
kapers - October 29, 2008
Sounds good.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
And I just want to say to my wife at home
Yo Adrian, I did it!
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Someone should have done that.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
Jeannie Zelasko -- that's pretty tacky
If Manuel wants to bring up his mom passing away a couple weeks ago, that’s up to him. But to ask him about it like that…seems like she’s forcing it.
Nick - October 29, 2008
Jeannie Zelasko, tacky?
You’ve just destroyed everything I believe in.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
They do that kind of crap all of the time.
They are a major media outlet, after all.
VORP is too nerdy - October 29, 2008

thesteve9x - October 29, 2008

Nico - October 29, 2008
I hate how they milk the award ceremony.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008
+1
Nick - October 29, 2008
Eh, it's better than the NCAA championship
Game ends, 35 minutes of filler, then they finally get around to “One Shining Moment”…
Compared to that this is positively brisk.
PaulThomas - October 29, 2008
I miss the old days
Send these poor guys to the locker room and let them pour cheap champagne all over themselves.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Just wondering..
What do they do with a player who might be under 21 in that situation? Imagine if King Felix won the world series a couple of years ago…. do they not get to participate?
VORP is too nerdy - October 29, 2008
Only one that springs to mind
Is Magic Johnson winning as a 20 year old. My guess is he partied like an adult. So to speak.
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
Yeah, total cheese.
But did we expect anything butter from Fox?
Jennifer - October 29, 2008
Dude, go through puberty already.
But good job, you had one hell of a Post-Season.
thesteve9x - October 29, 2008
"On behalf of Chevrolet, I'm pleased to present you with a Camaro -- luckily we haven't gone out of business yet"

lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
that would be awesome.
Newspaper headline “All baseball fans asleep for the winter!”
Cool.
#14fan - October 29, 2008
so now the whole world knows

OaklandSi - October 29, 2008

whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
He's 24 she's 29.
OldhamA - October 29, 2008

OaklandSi - October 29, 2008

lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Nice for the Phils...

Nico - October 29, 2008
Good to the last drop, aren't you?
Let me re-phrase that….
67MARQUEZ - October 29, 2008
No but she did
take 24 hours and then still wouldn’t come out and had to be delivered C-section. So that compares right?
IM4Oakgal - October 29, 2008
We're just glad everything came out ok.
My son was born that way too, kinda scary.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008
Sorry for the pun.
lynnzgal - October 29, 2008

I was in the OR, though and it was one of the happiest days of my entire life. So , you are very right. Camille is an angel and I am enjoying Grammie land!
IM4Oakgal - October 29, 2008
Wow! My mom was in the OR as well!
You’re already the best grammie ever!

IM4Oakgal - October 29, 2008

whiteshoes40 - October 29, 2008
