Despite a less-than-auspicious first inning by Scott Kazmir, who allowed two early runs and wriggled out of quite a bit of trouble (he would allow 3 runs in his 6 IP), the game did not turn into the slugfest it might have been. Instead, the Rays’ bullpen gave us a genuine pitching duel, as Kasmir and his replacements matched Cole Hamels almost pitch for pitch. Hamels went seven, but only allowed two runs; the difference in the game-- this game was one swing from tied from the fifth inning on. Contrary to the League Championship Series’, only two homeruns were hit tonight; one by Crawford, one by Utley.
Clinging to their 3-2 lead for most of the game, the Phillies’ pitching took it all the way to Lidge, who absolutely destroyed the heart of the Rays’ lineup in the bottom of the ninth to secure the road win. Crawford put up a valiant at-bat at the end, but was finally retired.
And what a game it was. If you like baseball, this series might be a dream come true. When all was said and done tonight, both teams left baseball fans wanting a little bit more. I’d like six more games like this, please.

Great game

Who likes baseball?
Oh wait.. I do. Carry on.

Carry on my wayward son.
There’ll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest… don’t you cry no more.
[breaks it down]

Good song.
I’m excited that I actually know a few of the ones you’re quoting.

Wooo!

I'm still breaking it down in my head.
Love that song!

Days On The Green! Yay!
Those were the days.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008

My older sibs made it to them tho.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
So . . .
There IS someone older than you on here.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
perhaps
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
I went to a Day on the Green...
and I’m younger than 67.

Days On The Green
I saw Led Zep/Judas Priest/Rick Derringer in summer of ‘77. Went to a few of them in ’78. Rolling Stones/Santana/Eddie Money/Peter Tosh on Mick’s 36th birthday. The really good one was Aerosmith/Foreigner/Pat Travers/Van Halen/AC-DC. (What the hell was Foreigner doing there?) There was another good one in ‘78 that had Ted Nugent, Blue Oyster Cult, AC-DC, and Cheap Trick (I think I’m leaving someone out – can’t remember). A few years later there was The Who & The Clash. Those were great times for concerts.
Monday Fan - October 23, 2008
Yeah
My older sibs were at a lot of those. Bastards.

I always sung it "carry on my hayward son"
Of course, I’m odd.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
It has a better ring that Carry on my San Leandro son
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
How did you know?
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
I suppose it'll be Carry on my Fremont son now
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
No but why San Leandro?
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
It's the next city from Hayward
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
I thought you picked it randomly
I was born and raised there. Parents and most of the fam still live there.

Cool

no mikev....sad.
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Which commercial?
mikev - October 22, 2008
hey! both you AND zigfan are here! woot!
I wish I had more time, and my head wasn’t splitting open with my 5th headache in a row!!
#14fan - October 22, 2008
get some caffeine in your system.
mikev - October 22, 2008
what would that do? make my headache worse?
are you trying to make me suffer, or are you offering a miracle cure?
#14fan - October 22, 2008
caffeine works sometimes
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
I'll try it, but if it doesn't work, or makes it worse,
I’ll hunt you both down and you will both be VERY sorry. VERY VERY sorry.
So lets hope it works, ok?
#14fan - October 22, 2008
holy crap
I’d take care of that before the headaches
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
take care of what? hunting you guys down?
I’ll only do that if my headache doesn’t go away.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
only if it DOESN'T go away?
no fun.
mikev - October 22, 2008
you want me to chase after you anyway?
#14fan - October 22, 2008
depends
what happens if you catch me?
mikev - October 22, 2008
I don't know.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
Well yeah.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
Yeah that.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
Excedrin Migrane is basically a caffeine pill.
mikev - October 22, 2008
Those work
I just realized I haven’t had a migraine in a long time. Cool.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
Ugh..i get them way too frequently.
They suck! Bad!
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Truly awful.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
What is the difference between Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin Extra Strength?
Nothing!
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
that's why I love you.
You do the research for me.
mikev - October 22, 2008
I was told not to take that, for whatever reason.
Apparently whatever is splitting open my skull is not a “full” migrane, so I’m not supposed to take migrane medicene.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
there's more in it than just caffeine.
I’m just sayin, it helps. Go drink a soda.
mikev - October 22, 2008
alright!
#14fan - October 22, 2008
... would you mind beaming over some of your magical sprite?
#14fan - October 22, 2008
never mind. i found a coke.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
sprite is caffeine free.
:D
mikev - October 22, 2008
also, pinch the webbing between your left thumb and index finger
There’s a pressure point in there somewhere that relieves headaches too.
Need to apply a good amount of pressure though.
mikev - October 22, 2008
serious?
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
serious
mikev - October 22, 2008
I usually just tell them to go home.
K, that was bad,
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
How do you know all this?
Cuz you’re right.
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
just one of those things you pick up.
A chick I knew a long, long time ago knew all kinds of that weird pressure point stuff.
I remember the hand one because it works.
mikev - October 22, 2008
so your cure of headaches is...
drink a soda and pinch your finger? I like the way you think. I hope it works though. It is REALLY bad. If it’s not gone by tomorrow, I’m going to stop by the doctor. I HOPE IT’S NOTHING SERIOUS!! To be honest, I’m a little worried… it hasn’t gone away for 5/6 days. ugh.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
That doctor thing sounds like a good idea
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
not really. I mean, it's not like it's a cureall.
caffeine helps, and pressure points help.
If you’ve had a headache for a week, you may wanna call a doctor. Seriously.
mikev - October 22, 2008
Now you guys are making me scared!!!
{shivers} my friends say it’s because I’ve been staring at a computer screen too long.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
Could be
You may need glasses.
But still, a DOCTOR.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
fine. I'll go tomorrow. Happy?
#14fan - October 22, 2008
I'm half-content, yes
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
and I'll tell you if it's anything bad
but only if you care.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
That should be obvious.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
do you wear glasses?
mikev - October 22, 2008
sometimes.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
Your RX might have changed.
Or you could be sitting funny at the computer.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
That's possible.
Read here.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
Good stuff, Jennifer
I almost called you Jen. Weird.
I shorten everyone’s name at work. Well, I ask first.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
Jen is fine.
No Jennie.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
j-dog?
mikev - October 22, 2008
If you think that's necessary.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
not particularly
mikev - October 22, 2008
Good. :)
Because I don’t know I could answer to that. Plus, it makes me insecure.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
J-dizzle?
J-money?
I’m way too white and un-street to know many more of these.
mikev - October 22, 2008
You got me.
LOL
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
Jennie from the AN hood.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
Or the block.
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Its the only time Jennie is acceptable.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
Thank Jen.
No Jennie. I don’t do “nies”.
Besides I am going for less typing. Fat fingers and all.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
I get bad headaches.
I usually take a hot shower and let the water beat down on my head and back. Then I take lots of drugs, stuff my nose full of Mentholatum and sleep for a few hours.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
I do the first and last part.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
That works for me too.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
and I'll try that too. But I really need to go.
Talk to you guys later!!!!
#14fan - October 22, 2008
doctors know what they're doing.
(usually)
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Some of the drugs you can take for headaches actually
has caffeine in them.
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
I've taken tylenol and and motrin
aond something else that I can’t remember the name of. No dice. It hasn’t gotten any better at ALL.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
Caffeine gives me ocular migraines. Makes my left side go numb. Pretty freaky shit.
miggyk2 - October 22, 2008
And I thought I was suffering...
#14fan - October 22, 2008
or a doctor
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
KEEP ME AWAY FROM THOSE!
#14fan - October 22, 2008
They can be good. Very, very good.
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Whoa.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
Was that too much information?
ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008
Not quite enough.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
You want to know about he electricity usage too?
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
Well yeah.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
and they can also be bad. very, very bad.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
and do you punish them when that happens?
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
yes.
#14fan - October 22, 2008
Okay, who was talking abour Fringe on the telecast?
Jennifer - October 22, 2008
People are fucking crazy. They are going crazy in a town hall meeting about a sex offender/former murderer.
Leave the guy alone, he served his time. So annoying how people are branded in our “modern” society.
miggyk2 - October 22, 2008
that's not exactly like somebody who has an unpaid parking ticket.
mikev - October 22, 2008
I hate those people with a passion.
OK, not really.
67MARQUEZ - October 22, 2008
What is your point? I understand it is a horrible crime, but to further ostracize him after he has served his prison sentence is cruel.
miggyk2 - October 22, 2008
He should just pay the parking tickets
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
Dunno, there's really no good answer here without specifics.
I can completely understand people flipping out over a murderer/sex offender. I can also understand somebody serving their time and getting out.
mikev - October 22, 2008
We're only modern by today's standards
WaddellCanseco - October 22, 2008
-crosses miggy2k off of Christmas party invite list-
JediLeroy - October 22, 2008
Okay so I just went to your blog.
From what I gather you are teaching in Japan. Is this the traditional program being offered to college students, “Go to Japan/China and teach us english.”? Seems like a pretty sweet deal. Anyways if that is your daughter running around in one of the videos, please make sure she learns Japanese. She will hate you when she is older if she is not taught a second language at such a young age.
miggyk2 - October 23, 2008
By the way, I was totally kidding about the Christmas invite thing
I’m actually part of the JET Program, the biggest one in Japan. You need a degree and some desire to get to know Japan. It’s a grueling interview process, and pretty competitive. But it’s awesome.
As for the language, she’s learned a few words so far, but we’d actually like her to learn Spanish (I’m fluent in Spanish and learning Japanese now).
JediLeroy - October 23, 2008
Wow, to be trilingual would be amazing.
I hope Japan is treating you well!
miggyk2 - October 23, 2008
How strange, I go to CSU Sacramento.
miggyk2 - October 23, 2008
What's worse is when people are branded sex offenders
for statutory rape. Thanks to our modern, enlightened laws, a 20 year old who has sex with a 17 year old (and depending on where you are, you may not even have to know the other party was underage) can be essentially stripped of all rights (including the right to vote for politicians who don’t believe in stripping people’s rights for minor mistakes in judgment).
Criminal laws should be drafted by experts with no input from the general public (or, worse yet, legislators) other than, maybe, picking among 2 or 3 options.
PaulThomas - October 22, 2008
Or when 2 minors have consensual sex and the older of the 2 gets charged with stat rape. Figure that one out.
miggyk2 - October 22, 2008
the profusion of "cabbage" in politics ensures that we remain a government of slaws, not men
monkeyball - October 23, 2008
It truly is the worst system ever invented
Except, of course, for all the other ones.

Haha!
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008

ZigFan31 - October 22, 2008

lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
Thanks ZigRan31
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
g'night my babies!
Sleep well.
lynnzgal - October 22, 2008
Pitching for both teams was excellent
considering the strike zone was very tight.
As a casual Phillies Fan (I grew up near there) it’s very troubling that I could get Ryan Howard out right now.
Miata71 - October 22, 2008
Anyone hear Buck say buddy-boy?
That was from when he was on Conan O’Brien around the ASG this year and they were talking about how Buck had said something during the previous year’s ASG that Conan had wanted him to say. It was some abnormal phrase but I forget it now. Anyways Conan had asked him this time to use buddy-boy (pronounced budday-boyyy) during the ASG this year but Buck never did until tonight around the 8th inning I believe. I found it funny, wonder if anybody else made the same connection I did.
Helloooo 1st - October 22, 2008
Great Game Indeed!
Baseball Girl is correct, game 1 was a lot of fun to watch. I did not have an opinion about favoring or disliking either team….it was just a good baseball game. I particuarly liked listening to the main announcer on tv….John Miller?
hokecole - October 23, 2008
Jon Miller's on the radio.
Joe Buck does the play-by-play on FOX.
whiteshoes40 - October 23, 2008
this was a very good game!
I really enjoyed watching it — and hope the rest of the series is as good.
OaklandSi - October 23, 2008
Even though I'm rooting for the Phillies
I am rooting harder for a tied Series tonight. Ah, the beauty of not hating either team.
67MARQUEZ - October 23, 2008
I think the Phillies really needed Game 1
after Hamels there is a real drop off in starter quality, while the Rays have overall a better starting rotation.
OaklandSi - October 23, 2008
Yep
I wonder if they considered throwing him on short rest twice so that he could throw Games 1, 4, and 7 instead of just Game 1 and Game 5.
notsellingjeans - October 23, 2008
as of this morning the Phillies website
lists Moyer starting Game 3 and Blanton Game 4.
OaklandSi - October 23, 2008
It's probably their best chance of winning
He’s hugely better than all their other starters. As it is, the two games he pitches are virtual must-wins for the Phils, because they’re not likely to win 3 of 5 games where they’re at a starter disadvantage. 2 is doable.
PaulThomas - October 23, 2008
Agree - would like five or six more games like last night
although with Rays winning 4 of them!
I really did enjoy the game – just good baseball, just what I wanted.
And I agree with OaklandSi above..I think the rest of Rays staff is stronger than Phillies.
But, we shall see.
LongTimeFan - October 23, 2008
No love for Big Joe?
And Moyer has been great all year. Joe I think will pitch as good as Hamels, keep them in the game. Same with Moyer. I don’t think TB has that much better of a rotation. I think the Phillies are a complete team. Go Phils! I met my wife in Philly so have more interest in the Phillies winning, although I like the small marketness of the Rays.
