First inning: Whoa, that wasn't a bunt, Rollins!
Second inning: Preemptively tiring of comments about "Los Angeles baseball fans" when really, the problem is "lack of a Los Angeles public transportation system". Cramming cars holding 56,800 fans into a parking lot with two-lane roads through residential neighborhoods all before a 5:00PM game is a rather impressive feat in itself.
Third inning: It appears that the Dodgers forgot to replace their batting practice pitcher with their starting pitcher tonight. (pause) What? That's Billingsley? My bad.
Fourth inning: It's a beautiful night for a ballgame. It's about 70 degrees with a full moon hanging over the stadium in all its glory. I'm going to miss baseball.
Fifth inning: I hope Furcal has police escorts lined up leaving the stadium tonight. It doesn't get much worse than three errors in an inning, as you lazily run after a ball you missed during the last game of your season.
Sixth inning: Manny's good. I wonder if he can pitch? Actually, I wonder if he likes the weather in Oakland, and if he'd be willing to take a pay cut.
Seventh inning: Not even Tommy Lasorda waving a Dodger rally towel can save this game for the Dodger fans.
Eighth inning: MY EYES!!! WHY MY EYES!!! IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THEY SHOW "THE" HOMERUN ALL OVER THE PLACE, BUT WHY DID THEY HAVE TO SHOW THE WHOLE AT-BAT!! HELP! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! OH NO, GIBSON IS IN THE HOUSE, HE'S TAKING A BOW. WHY ME?! I'M SO GLAD THE PHILLIES ARE WINNING!!!
Ninth inning: I'm sure FOX is thrilled that the Phillies are going to the World Series (ha ha). You can believe they are hoping against hope that the Red Sox will pull out another amazing comeback. I say no. GO RAYS GO!!!!!!

It was a perfect night for baseball in Cali.
While not a win for the Dodgers, a win for you BBG.
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008
Yay BBG!
And sorry about that Gibson thing. I still don’t believe what I just saw 20 years ago.
WaddellCanseco - October 15, 2008
What happened to the Dodgers' World Series chances?
By the looks of things, Tommy Lasorda ate them.
thejd44 - October 15, 2008
They gone.
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008

I'll watch BBG
Wait what was the question?
mikev - October 15, 2008
Who will watch
Phillies V. Rays?
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008

Mostly for the Rays!
thesteve9x - October 15, 2008
Mr too!
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008
Or me.
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008
I have to say, that knowing they were playing this game as part of your birthday present,
they should have made it less boring.
pam5981 - October 15, 2008
That's what the game threads were for.
mikev - October 15, 2008
Yeah,
but she was there.
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008
For real!
What the hell!
lynnzgal - October 15, 2008
Manny always seemed to enjoy being in left field in Oakland
Even during the “Manny has a Wed-gie!!” incident. Maybe he’d go for it.
Englishmajor - October 15, 2008
Lookit all the room in here!
mikev - October 15, 2008
yay! no small message boxes!!
you’re probably depressed to see I followed you here, huh?
#14fan - October 15, 2008
Ah. The silent treatment.
#14fan - October 15, 2008
Depressed? never!
My wishes have been granted
mikev - October 15, 2008
Wish for what? insanity?
#14fan - October 15, 2008
There's a fine line between insanity and genious.
I like to sway back and forth occasionally.
mikev - October 15, 2008
I might tip you in the wrong direction.
But if you’re ok with that….
Nice to see you, mikev!
#14fan - October 15, 2008
I'm equally content on either side!
So thanks :D
mikev - October 15, 2008
Cool!!
Someone on AN who’s ok with insanity!!!
mikev, you’re awesome.
#14fan - October 15, 2008
Of course!
Sometimes either side, sometimes both sides, sometimes NEITHER.
It’s a good time.
mikev - October 15, 2008
Being neither is sometimes kinda fun.
But, alas, my AN day is at an end. I added over 100 comments today, and I need to take a couple tylenol and go to bed!!!
See you on the game threads!

Peace, Love, and Recycle!
I think I may go try and shut my eyes too.

The Gibson HR
is one of those things I will always remember. I know where I was, who I was watching with, etc… and I also remember yelling out to my dad (who was in the backyard burning leaves) that Canseco had hit a grand slam, denting the center field camera. Little did I know the Canseco HR would be the peak and it was pretty much all downhill after that.
louismg - October 15, 2008
ahhh... bad times, indeed...
nightmares burned into one’s memory… along with the Immaculate Reception and the Tuck Rule. But, I do have my Raider Superbowl memories and my A’s dynasty memories (along with the dynasty that should have been) to tide me over.
FoolshGame22 - October 16, 2008
I yelled to my dad about the grand slam, too
He had walked to the park for a smoke (park was real close to our house). I’m pretty sure he swallowed his cig when he heard me yell out “CANSECO, GRAND SLAM!” like some maniac.

I will never forget the night.
I was walking off the bus to my first high school band competition and giving a high five to another A’s fan in the band who was walking by. I was sure we would win the world series and that my school would win the competition.
As I threw my walkman on in disgust after losing the competition, I knew that at least I would get to hear good news about being up one game to 0 in the series.
That was one LOOONNG ride home.
5Aces - October 16, 2008
I feel like I should hug you.
67MARQUEZ - October 16, 2008
I reacted to Gibson's HR in a most mature, adult fashion
Except for trying to cram a heavy foot rest through the floor of my apartment building (thankfully, my apartment was above the laundry room).
doctorK - October 16, 2008
BBG, looks like you had great seats from the photo
I have always stopped whatever I was doing to watch Manny hit. Like him or not, he is still one of the greatest right handed hitters of recent times. If he’s healthy he would make any offense better….and while I think he’ll have trouble getting a 4-5 year contract, I’m sure some club will pay him at least $20 million a year and deal with the rest of what he brings as best they can.
I think the better team won. Now the Rays need to finish the Sux off and not let them or their “nation” have any hope for any comeback.

BBG
Nice work, as always. Playoff baseball in person is the best, even on elimination day. (Unless it’s Game 5 against Boston and you were up 2 games to none and Macha sits Dye in favor of….but enough about that.)
Was it your first playoff game? I assume not. As many games I’ve been to, the only parks I’ve seen live are ours and that one down the street from us. Never even made it to Anaheim, except to see Donald Duck. Next season (hopefully).
So in case my 5:30 in the morning rambling wasn’t clear (it never is); color me jealous that you 1) went to Dodger Stadium and 2) it was a playoff game.
67MARQUEZ - October 16, 2008
Nope, I've been to A's playoff games...
Mostly on my birthday. They’ve lost all of them.
baseballgirl - October 16, 2008
I feel like I should hug you.
67MARQUEZ - October 16, 2008
dude
I’m starting to think you are just trying to get hugs out of everyone….
5Aces - October 16, 2008
I feel like I should hug you.
mikev - October 16, 2008
Can I have $10?
5Aces - October 16, 2008
Nah
I just felt those were hug-worthy moments. I give great hugs, so they are not something I just randomly offer. There has to be a reason, something life-altering, like an A’s playoff loss on a birthday. Tragic.
67MARQUEZ - October 16, 2008
Whoo!!!
Living in SoCal, it is SO NICE not to have to hear about the Angels or Dodgers anymore. DIE LA DIE!!! Add in a 3-1 series lead for the Rays and a nice performance from fellow Hawai’i native Shane Victorino, and I’d say life is pretty good right now.
baseballnut020 - October 16, 2008
BTW...
Happy Birthday BBG! Hope you had a good one despite a loss from the Dodgers.
