I don’t mind the tribute Hank Aaron has taped in anticipation, and I’m ok with the presence of 300-400 additional reporters who have flocked to Arlington this evening, though I’m rather annoyed that Bud Selig is not in attendance. That’s right, folks: Tonight, Lenny DiNardo goes for career win #7. It could get crazy.
Kevin Millwood opposes DiNardo in the rubber game of this 3-game series, and…wow, the pitchers might want to go for strikeouts because the two teams are NOT putting their best defensive team out on the field. Cust and Botts in LF? Wilkerson and Melhuse at the corners? All righty then!
Said lineups:
Buck – RF
Swisher – CF
Cust – LF
Piazza – DH
Ellis – 2B
Johnson – 1B
Scutaro – 3B
Murphy – SS
Bowen – C
Kinsler – 2B
Wilkerson – 1B
Young – SS
Sosa – DH
Byrd – CF
Cruz – RF
Botts – LF
Saltalamacchialamasccherer – C
Melhuse – 3B

Does Geren
hate Kotsay? He never plays anymore. Either that or his back is sore again.
chavyizdamn3 - August 8, 2007
He must be hurting although there was some
bashing of Geren from the players but, if you can believe it, no names were mentioned. Kotsay was the mole last year so it wouldn't surprise me if he had trouble keeping his opinion to himself again.
He really doesn't deserve to play right now based on performance.

The Cubs claimed Shannon Stewart on Waivers, per Bruce Levin on ESPN 1000.
So we'll see if its true, and if so, if a deal can be made.

SwisherThresher - August 8, 2007
He's on the 40 man roster and would
never clear waivers. I fear this is just going to be another nothing trade.
OldhamA - August 8, 2007
If he was claimed by the Cubs, the A's have 3
options
With Shannon, only making 1Mil, the A's won't just let him go for free.
theblackpearl - August 8, 2007
I meant, we'll get jack for him if we trade him.
OldhamA - August 8, 2007
Actually, Pie wouldn't have to clear waivers
He'd just have to make it far enough for Oakland to claim him, then we could trade.
That means he'd have to get past Tampa Bay, Texas, Kansas City, White Sox, and Baltimore.
Yeah, still not gonna happen.

I don't want to watch things about the manager I want to watch baseball
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
Dude! Rob Bowen!
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
paradox - August 8, 2007
Switch hit for a duce!
paradox - August 8, 2007
Home runs by a catcher?
Something is broken.
louismg - August 8, 2007
Doesn't he have as many HRs
in one game as Jason Kendall did his whole time this season with the A's?
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Yes, that is correct.
Not to mention more home runs than Kendall had in his previous two seasons... Combined.
louismg - August 8, 2007
Kendall's wife played in one game and she
has 1/2 as many homers as he does.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Yesssassssssssssss
My boy did it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
Holy crap. Bowen is showing up Melhuse's
backup catching duties.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Not to mention Kendall....
iglew - August 8, 2007
And wearing #17
Maybe for Melhuse, it's an out of body experience.
louismg - August 8, 2007
and he's a switch-hitter. Maybe he can play
3rd base?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Considering the current competition...
He doesn't even need to try out. The answer is yes.
louismg - August 8, 2007
Yeah but we lost the inventor of the
pickin-machine. He is now coaching a team into last place... hopefully.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
[falls over]
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Post Kendall trade...
Homeruns by Kendall = 0.
Homeruns by Bowen = 2.
Did we "fleece" them?
DMOAS - August 8, 2007
baby oh baby
The gods are upon us tonight
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
Shhhh. This is in Texas.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Texas
it doesn't scare me. I'm a Hoosier
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
WOO!
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
OT- It's going to be 102 the next several days
here. I will totally be thinking of the ferry from Oakland to SF to try and keep cool.
It's raining HARD right now in my neck of the woods so you'll probably get it tomorrow.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
It rained here this AM.
Thundering right now. 'Nader weather, dude. I'll be sleeping with my shoes on tonight.Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Bowen > Kendall
OldhamA - August 8, 2007
Bowen > Bonds
2-1 for the big backup catcher!
louismg - August 8, 2007
"Cross-Bowen" would be apt.
atomopawn - August 8, 2007
Rob Bowen Arrow.
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
That's stupid.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Rob Bowen backwards
= New Obbor
iglew - August 8, 2007
Swish's Wishes: Stop striking out.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Catcher HR Totals...
Jason Kendall - 292AB - 2 HR
Kurt Suzuki - 80AB - 2 HR
Rob Bowen - 13AB - 2 HR*
Adam Melhuse - 26AB - 0 HR**
** 1 HR for TEX, total of 85 AB
Zonis - August 8, 2007
Bowen HR's
He hit 2 HR's for Padres this year not Cubs--They (the Cubs) had no clue what they had he was just trade bait for them.
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
I think they knew what they had
looking at his stats, they don't look too good.
He's your standard backup catcher.
I'd rather have Jeremey Brown, especially with a "defense minded" primary catcher. Brown can play 3B as well, anyways.
Zonis - August 8, 2007
Oh those who only look at stats
You need to look at underlying issues before you condem someone. That's ok though we can choose to disagree but I'll take Bowen anyday
robofavant56 - August 8, 2007
I don't think Bowen is any big prize but I
definitely prefer him over Brown. I've seen Brown play several times and I don't think he has that much upside. He hesitantly signed my Moneyball copy.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Did the NRAF's hear the Cameron-Ferris Bueller
call on that last pitch? Batter-batter-batter swwwiiing batter.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Y isnt andrew Brwn in the game yet?
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
He's waaaay too tired for today.
And besides, Embree should have this under control.
danmerqury - August 8, 2007
is brown hurt or something
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
i live in texas but i didnt go to the game tonigh
to freakin hot
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
its hot as hell out there
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
102 for the next 4 days for me. What are your
temps right now?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
In beautiful Oakland, CA:
67
69
68
69
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Shutup please. I didn't ask you for your temps.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Too bad.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Look at these dreamy upcoming days...
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
it's been chilly for the past few days
here in bay area
EllisFanatic - August 8, 2007
I was just there on Monday. Ahhh.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
I love this kind of weather
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
You are just plain MEAN.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Yeah, well.
Your temps aren't SO bad except for the humid days. Those temps are like hot days in the east-East Bay (through the hills) which I am very familiar with because I grew up there.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Nights are beautiful here while days
are terrific in Oakland. It's a compromise either way.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
me too.
i love my dawn comforter. sleep so well lately.
EllisFanatic - August 8, 2007
Cry about it
At least you've got a sweet jacket to wear around.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
You should have made the purchase. I looked
for the exact jacket for you today but couldn't find it. The "L" actually is a little big.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
I thought about it
I should have because I think an L would fit pretty well. I was rushed. I panicked! What can you do?
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Go back to Oakland. Have you ever been to
Spring Training? They probably have them there so all you have to do is go to Phoenix.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Spring training, huh?
Maybe I should go. I can get garlic fries there. And In-n-out burger.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
You should go.
We'll get a whole AN contingent. I'm gonna go.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
AN contigent needs to hit up K.C.
When the schedule comes out, we'll look at having a Midwest AN Day with group tickets or something.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Especially since Phase 1 improvements will be
finished. Right?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Yep
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Here you go
Plans
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Nice...
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
I caught that too
Good thing, because if we are fielding close to the same team as this year, I'm going to be doing plenty of vomiting.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
BTW,
I'm totally going to show up next year. I'm giving you plenty of warning. That is, if they play on the weekend.
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Mmm hmmm
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Will you be there?
If so, I think I have plans. I'm washing my hair.
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Maybe?
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
We will all look forward to seeing you
at the tailgate or do you mean AN Day V in Oakland? Or both?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
tailgate.
I want to go to ST and opening day. We'll see what the $$ is like around that time.
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
I will probably pay stay in touch on dates
for ST. Didn't you say Poppy and yourself were looking at March 10th? I always go to the Final Four so that will play an important role in when I head to Phoenix.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Can I stay in your wing of the mansion?
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Do you mean at my buddy's house?
It's not a mansion but it's about 4000 sqft so you can stretch your legs out.ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
I'm thinking about not even getting a hotel.
Get there... baseball during the day... party at night. I'll rinse off at the stadium or something. Maybe shave my head so I don't have to worry about what my 'do looks like. I might purchase some Febreze.Jennifer - August 8, 2007
That cracks me up because of McFood's
post about Sinead O'Connnor. He is one funny guy and I wish I could have talked to him more on AN Day. It was overwhelming trying to talk to everyone.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
4000 sq. ft. is UNREAL to me.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
My house is 1600 sqft and it seems small.
I realize that if I moved to California than I would be downsizing quite a bit. Oh well... I probably wouldn't have a lawn and trees to take care of so that would be nice.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
My last girlfriend had a 6000 sqft house but she
was a total b**** and I don't really miss her much.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Dude
but square footage is important!
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
This is really enticing. Really.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Come on over to KC.
You can stay at a hotel right across the street and drink as many beers as you like!ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
There's more than one hotel
right across the street. :)
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
and "Denny's" sometimes. It was closed for
a while last year.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
You can't drink beer at Denny's...
can you?
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
I don't see why not.
Jennifer - August 8, 2007
Nope but the hotel has a bar that is open late.
Hell our tailgate wrapped up around 1:00 a.m. if I remember correctly. It's like security doesn't give a shit. In Oakland they kill the lights while Celebration is still playing.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
The hotel across the street is awesome
and feel free to watch our video for further enticement.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Embree
with cheek packed full...please make this a quick, uneventful bottom half of the 9th k thx
SwisherThresher - August 8, 2007
I love Mark Ellis.
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Me Too.
EllisFanatic - August 8, 2007
Like 100 in fort worth
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
Glad I bought my Bowen jersey
right after AN Day on Saturday.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
sprtsnwyn,
how do you pronounce your screen name?
Sports-n-win?
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
Wine
close though. Ben Folds Five song.
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Whine because he is a freaking "whiner"
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
How do you pronounce yours?
Is it Pam-Five-Nine-Eight-Won?
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Exactly
pam5981 - August 8, 2007
whoaa alright
buckfan6 - August 8, 2007
A series win for our A's which followed a
split. Things are beginning to be tolerable again.
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
Split followed a win
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Heh?
ohtobe21likehuston - August 8, 2007
We won the Detroit series
sprtsnwyn - August 8, 2007
Things are looking better indeed.
