The old adage of "good field, no hit" is antiquated in this age when second basemen and shortstops are expected to provide power and slugging alongside the muscle-bound first basemen and outfielders. The A's, not well known for their middle infield's hitting prowess, have received significant production from an unexpected source. Can you guess who?

Love it!
Ellis is truly a class act. My kids and I have "met" him a couple of times (in the hallway at fanfest, on the field at an A's kids club day) and he has been such a great guy. I'll always be in his corner.

More
I just joined a co-ed softball team (playing softball for the first time since I was 12!) and am the (for now) 2nd baseman. When asked to pick my uniform number I immediately chose #14.

He's a keeper
His offense is actually slightly below average for second base, but he more than makes up for it with brilliant defense (at a position where he can really save a ton of runs), putting him well above average as a complete package.
I'm almost certain he'll be extended during the offseason, probably through 2011 with a 2012 option. I think we'll be seeing him manning second for a long time.

Great ANtics as usual!
But the line
you really should see a picture of Ellis in a sleeveless shirt. He has some guns!

Could look at it another way...
Is he a big fan of the 2nd amendment?
