Heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, this game is already a half an hour longer than last night's entire contest. Gaudin was knocked out early after giving up a rare two runs, but Flores got two outs, and Santiago Casilla (or Jairo Garcia), finished the inning, leaving the A's clinging to a 4-2 lead.
They need to get nine outs more, and could use a few more runs.

If Hawk Harrelson were our announcer...
...(perish the thought) he'd be telling us how Kotsay was still a better CF than Torii Hunter.
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Yeah, we aren't even going there.
Torii is one of the best. No argument.
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
and mumble something about politics
ak_A - June 3, 2007
Torii can flat play CF
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
unless it's in the playoffs :-)
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Gaudin gave up 5 walks today. Sheesh.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
He was definitely off
But only 2 ER
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
True. He reverted back to his old days.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
so was Santana
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
I'm surprised Gaudin got through 5 only giving up
2 runs. He was wild today.
Oh, and I have no confidence in our pen to bring home the win.
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
I hate Torii Hunter.
Any chance we could sign him next year;
alox - June 3, 2007
not with our payroll
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Heh...no joke
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
does cust ever swing?
Vegas A's Fan - June 3, 2007
It's Johan Santana
against him as a lefty...surprised he can even see the ball.
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
Only on pitches
he is certain he can safely miss.
alox - June 3, 2007
Fickle bunch, us ANers!
I seem to remember a rather different take on Cust not so long ago.
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
What have you done lately....lol
I got much Casillas love going on right now....
alox - June 3, 2007
way too many ko's jack cust
and nothing infuriates a manager more than when some strikes out without a swing on a pitch that's close enough to swing at.
AsFanInIowa - June 3, 2007
Mmm-kay.
Mariners leading Rangers 10-4 now.
pam5981 - June 3, 2007
Cust has gone from Joe Dimaggio..
to Vince Dimaggio in less than a month. Is Piazza coming back soon? They should DH Scutaro...
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
Can we split the difference....
...and have him agree to be Dom Dimaggio?
We could call him the Big Perfesser!
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Nutty Perfesser?
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
Indeed.
I dug him as Buddy Love.
But lately, he's always Julius Kelp.
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
I remember the game against KC...
where Jairo Garcia gave up a grand slam. Maybe Santiago Casilla is better...
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
Yeah, screw that guy Garcia...
this guy Casilla is way better. Maby Jack Cust should look into an AKA.
alox - June 3, 2007
Is this a major league debut for Casilla?
kapers - June 3, 2007
yes but not Jairo Garcia.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Maybe some of our other bullpen boys
should change their names as well.
kapers - June 3, 2007
no!
He was Jairo Garcia but then he revealed his real name and he was actually a couple years older than Jairo.
He's pitched very little the last couple of years.
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
Why should we believe his new age?
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Cause Homeland Security believes him...
...and when do they ever get anything wrong?
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
oh... wow.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
it's "almost" comical to see our bullpen
when guys are warming up. It's like Casilla might be a GREAT addition compared to these guys.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
95 mph fastball and a plus slider
sounds good to me
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
He should have gotten a chance earlier. How
can you have guys like Colby Lewis and Jay Marshall but overlook his power-pitching? I know it's only one game but he looked pretty damn tough.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Duuude...that was just sick
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
santiago casilla legitimate major league pitcher?
xbhaskarx - June 3, 2007
Will Casilla's stuff finally work in the ML's???
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Now he changed his name to Will?
Ugh, this is so confusing...
OaklandInvader - June 3, 2007
LOL. are we supposed to be having his much fun?
kapers - June 3, 2007
I dunno...
...how much fun is he having?
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Well he is "hunting" down the K Zone
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Casilla's kicking some ass...
a welcome sight!
oblique - June 3, 2007
You say Goodby
and I say Jairo.
fridaynightfan - June 3, 2007
Is he taking the Fifth Amendment
about his name change?
Englishmajor - June 3, 2007
Casilla looked damn good
Not sure what would have happened if the Twins had been taking, but if he can get good hitters to chase his slider consistently he'll be successful--he looks a lot better than he did in his earlier stints.Nico - June 3, 2007
Maybe he learbed something from Calero last year.
Which Kiko has obviously forgotten.
alox - June 3, 2007
It's a good thing he wasn't facing us ;)
baseballgirl - June 3, 2007
drops chips and spills coke
ak_A - June 3, 2007
wooo
Im ready to climb on board the Casilla Train
SwisherSweet - June 3, 2007
whoa nelly! not bad
but it seems he is right on the edge of a fine line between mastery and disaster....or that just might be my colored perception based on past nightmares.
ak_A - June 3, 2007
Twins bullpen is insanely better than ours...
I'm soo jealous...
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
I've seen Little League teams...
...with better bullpens than ours!
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Softball or hardball?
or both?
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
Tee Ball...
...amazingly enough!
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Kiko and Marshall warming up.
Comical.
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Cue the music from "Halloween"
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
I thought the Shining was on SciFi...
not FSNBA!
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
What. A. Great. Movie.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
I told you he's been dominant
the last couple of years here, I know he's got better and I hope he can focus and stablish himself.
haroldMD - June 3, 2007
I'd like to see Dan Meyer up here..
I hear he's been very good so far...
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
He throws too many pitches right now but I think
he will get that figured out with more time in the minors. He is currently struggling to pitch more than 5 innings so I bet it would be less in the bigs.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
How is Braden doing?
Is he in Triple AAA?
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
I mean Triple A...
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
He is in AAA and I haven't checked his stats
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
he just pitched first time in a while
he'd been sick with bronchitis
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
Homer right here Ellie!
Do it for Briggs!
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
If he'd had twins...
...would the other kid have been named "Stratton"?
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
What I wanna know is if he's wearing an
A's onesy?
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
A walk, a hit for rookie daddy,
how about the proverbial Earl Weaver blast?
alox - June 3, 2007
Have him leadoff tomorrow if Buck is out.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Which Ellis? Briggs or Mark?
alox - June 3, 2007
anyone but Stewart.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Motor skills might be a little lacking
with little Briggsie.
pam5981 - June 3, 2007
d i s c r i m i n a t i o n
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Fatherhood agrees with him
pam5981 - June 3, 2007
This all seems so familiar...
alox - June 3, 2007
now it really does with guys left on base
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Minny's going back to Cali, Cali, Cali.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
I don't think so
LAXile - June 3, 2007
he was shakin' 'em, bakin' 'em.
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
son of a gun!
now how bout some more decent relief and luck.
ak_A - June 3, 2007
Two more innings to go!
We got this!
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
(Glances nervously...
....at Marshall and Calero.)
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
So, Marshall's opening the 8th...
Who do we have left in the pen for the ninth? Embree? Him and...?
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
Kiko!
He's a real ironman. Completely dependable. You know exactly what you're gonna get with Kiko these days!
GreenNGoldSooner - June 3, 2007
Your sarcasm
is bewildering.
pam5981 - June 3, 2007
Walks and homeruns?
Oh, btw Geren is a freakin Loogy, regardless of how crap the rest of the pen is. Stop pitching him against righties!!!
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Marshall - Geren.....oh you know what I mean!
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Calero's coming in!
I have complete faith in him! {Turns off radio}
OaktownRajah - June 3, 2007
WHAT?!!
No, Geren. No, Geren. No......
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
Kiko's due--
He's going to remember to throw the fastball this time.Nico - June 3, 2007
who would you rather have in the game
xbhaskarx - June 3, 2007
I'd rather have Embree finish off the game.
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
Calero!
Our bullpen is ridiculous.
SwisherSweet - June 3, 2007
Honestly, who else do we have?
I'm missing someone here right?
Calero, Marshall, Embree, Flores, Castilla and Lewis.
That can't possibly be it, can it?
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Ah! Just remembered.
Erasmo Ramirez and good ol' Colby Lewis.
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
And Witasick...
oh, wait a minute...never mind
alox - June 3, 2007
Positively frightening.....
for the starting pitching!
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
ORELAC OKIK!
say it with me three times fast
LAXile - June 3, 2007
Kebert Xela.
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
i'll take that
ak_A - June 3, 2007
Psssh. Why throw fastballs
when you have that killer hanging slider?Nico - June 3, 2007
Behold the March of the Green and Gold
OOGYs!
LAXile - June 3, 2007
We just used our entire bullpen. In 3 innings.
If Embree doesn't have his best stuff today, what are we going to do?
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
I'm sure Scoot can pitch.
Plus, he's clutch.
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Felipe Geren is at it again
Can't say I blame him too much though.
awesomer @ Athletics Nation - June 3, 2007
Lewis
still available.
MobiusKlein - June 3, 2007
I forgot to breath for a couple of innings.
Did I miss anything? And don't tell me something ridiculous like Calero recording an out.
alox - June 3, 2007
on tv they had a kotsay commercial
it was funny.
smasfan - June 3, 2007
Was it as funny as that
really syrupy 5A Rent-A-Space jingle?
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
it was about him anticipating things-spelled wron
smasfan - June 3, 2007
i think when i corrected it its right
anyway he anticipates coach calling for him, bends over before ball hits him in dugout and then catches ball out on warming track
smasfan - June 3, 2007
way to go chavy
smasfan - June 3, 2007
Cust K'd 3 times today?
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
So, uh, is that Upper Cust sign still there?
And if so, how long before someone takes it down?
danmerqury - June 3, 2007
Uno!
Englishmajor - June 3, 2007
That devious Embree
is employing the rope-a-liner-a-dope strategy to wear out the Twins in the 9th
FreeSeatUpgrade - June 3, 2007
YAY!!!!
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
Another sweeet Sunday. F*** the Angels!
ohtobe21likehuston - June 3, 2007
Celebrate good times, come on!
Englishmajor - June 3, 2007
Thank God for Embree.
He's been exceptional of late. We'd truely be screwed without him getting 4 out saves!
OldhamA - June 3, 2007
Woohoo!!!!
Welcome back bullpen!!!!
BruceBochteBiyatches - June 3, 2007
well, that was satisfying
ak_A - June 3, 2007
excellent use of bullpen by Geren
OaklandSi - June 3, 2007
RECAP UP! :-)
A's WIN!
